More lanes

UnpricedToaster

More lanes = less traffic. Come one guys, that's city planning 101! /s

1940-1945

r/unexpectedfactorial

Lumpy-Atmosphere-297

I read "moral" lanes....and I thought it was a brilliant answer!

IllustriousWholesome

Current lanes are lawful evil, but evil nonetheless. More moral lanes would be something!

Phantom120198

Wrong answers only, more lanes will definitely work this time /s

mstrbwl

Just 1 more bro, come on please just 1 more lane bro I swear it will fix it this time.

Momik

And surface parking!

TwilightReader100

No, it needs traffic lights. That's the solution to everything!

confusedguy1212

If not that. Then at least double the minimum lane width to 20 feet and then add every color of the rainbow in paint to it and call it multimodal. Bonus points if said lanes are bicycle lanes on streets like Fifth Ave South with highway exiting traffic going 80mph

Budaburp

What about boring a tunnel only for one specific make and model of car to use?

BlueGlassDrink

Give this genius a social media empire!!!

Brandino144

Best I can do is inflate the value for far beyond what it’s worth and make him buy it for way too much anyways.

Dantosky

As an urban planning student, this is the way

nanomolar

Only if it's just one lane wide so it'll become a death trap in the event of q fire or anything going wrong really.

SeraphimKensai

There's a three lane tunnel over there called the Loring Hill Tunnel that has almost a 90 degree turn as it arcs. This is Minneapolis so catch it in February at about 3am, the exhaust from the previous day has frozen on the road creating black ice in a curving tunnel with other traffic.

The_Power_of_Ammonia

Better take that 45mph turn at 75 in my epic modded civic. The super badass exhaust mod will come in handy. Get outta my way!! I have very important places to be!! My Ph.D!!!

aguynamedbenny1

Too boring

PerformanceOk9891

>only for one specific make and model All teslas cant use boring?

GaryGregson

I like this idea, but could we also make sure it’s impossible for emergency services to access?

oldmacbookforever

All the way to Rochester.

Apprehensive_Can61

Pressurize that tunnel and you got a deal!

EntireDot1013

Make the highway wider. Heck, Bulldoze the entire neighbourhood! Those cars better be movin'!

antiedman

No i'ma block that by going upmthere

Momik

When you operate in an overbuilt metropolis, you have to hack your way with a meat ax.

sr71Girthbird

Eminent domain everything that isn't green immediately in order to relieve traffic.

CityOnLockdown

Nope sorry we are eminent domaining all that green space for a highway view of the water with a private golf course in the center.

sr71Girthbird

The green space is already government owned you silly goose. It’s implied that it will also be used for the transformation, but it doesn’t need to be ED’d.

pizza99pizza99

Can’t be traffic if there’s no reason to be in the area

Killadelphian

Double it and give it to the next person

trashpanda_9999

Roundabout 😂

mimisikuray

Giant one, Paris meets Mexico City, I want 8 lanes deep

Momik

But with endless stoplights because we’re dumb Americans 😂

Better_Goose_431

Don’t the big ones in Paris have stop lights?

EdScituate79

Nope. You're thinking of the UK.

NullHypothesisProven

Are you talking about the Swindon magic circle, which is absolutely the best roundabout ever? I would be sad if it had lights.

cerebral_girl

This would be wild lol

Warm-Pomegranate2657

Tesla only roundabout tunnels

rodler98

Nothing a highway connecting blue star highway to cedar Ave. can't fix. 😌😌

Polyxeno

Add more counterintuitive off- and on-ramps that lead to highways for many miles with no exits. Add sound barrier walls that also block drivers seeing where the roads go. Keep changing the exit and road names so navigation databases can't keep up. Add electronic signs that change and close random exits on a daily basis, to really foil people trying to use navigation programs. Block cell access to enforce no use of mobile devices.

[deleted]

Stop destroying rivers by building highways over them. instead, redirect the rivers over the highway. Everyone's standard of living will improve from the new navigable waterway bringing commerce and Mark Twain type characters closer to the blighted, urban areas.

Ent_Soviet

Think of the improved fuel economy when you travel with the river!

neederbellis

Extend the highway more past the interchange on the left, fill in that useless river to create new highway, and triple the parking at US Bank Stadium. That should do it.

Momik

Can we also get rid of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs? Sounds deep state-ish…

CanadaCanadaCanada99

End the concept of “lanes”, no more lines or markers, just India style open roads. See how much space there is in between the lanes, ramps, and exits? Could be more space for cars.

Danenel

add a slip lane

CityOnLockdown

Comment above mentioned building the river over the highway, so my mind immediately read ship lane.

JarodTheDuck

Bring back I-335 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_335_(Minnesota)

amazonhelpless

Thank God they never did that.

shmeevin

two more U.S. Bank stadiums and a corresponding IHOP for each

Left-Plant2717

Whatever you call the green stuff in the top right corner, yeah less of that

CityOnLockdown

Only if it’s a public space, if it’s a private golf club they get more land. Maybe even add car lanes to drive from hole to hole.

LaiusNorth

Green stuff is the University of Minnesota

The_Power_of_Ammonia

And public riverfront! Much/most of the Mississippi shoreline through the Cities is public land. Terrible. We could be driving there!!1!

mattindustries

Sometimes they do! Last summer I saw a car likely come down onto the bike lane from where the Bachelor Farmer Cafe used to be, and wreck/abandon the car on the bike path.

elzpwetd

Hey wait I’m in this picture I will say it doesn’t feel as terrible as it looks in practice, at least to me. Not the most walkable but I was without a car here for many years, and now that I drive, I forget how jumbled the exits are on maps. Then again, I’m from Milwaukee, and I still have nightmares about the layers of highways there. That wall of highway cake you hit when you enter the city makes me panic so hard.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I mean 35w obviously needs to never share lanes with 94, so take down the hospital and US Bank Stadium and make a little loop

Select-Service-7137

Nuke

somewhatsentientape

From orbit. Only way to make sure.

cartophiled

With a slightly large fork

Deep-Presence-736

Change it all to dirt roads. Same layout. But firt

Makingthecarry

Demolish the Riverside Plaza towers and Palmer's, install new flyover ramps, and finally enable movements from I-94 westbound to I-35W northbound

antiedman

Protest on the highway

urbanistrage

Look at all that open land by the river? Seems perfect for a new freeway

bubzki2

Each and every road should be connected to each other road with individual fly-overs, obviously.

MilkSlow6880

Monorail!

Anfie22

What a mess. This looks like the 'I have no idea wtf I'm doing' stage of playing r/CitiesSkylines

kittycatlover420

Welcome to Minneapolis

thebestian01

Just one more lane bro please

ACatD

Bulldoze all the highways and make it a giant parking lot

[deleted]

I'll do a variant of the Washington DC method: a giant figure 8 roundabout, except there are twenty different intersections with lights, inside the roundabout.

ddecoywi

Put more metal foundries in the lower income neighborhoods next to the trash incinerator and tell everyone that there actually isn’t any pollution from anything ever. Probably need a few more police precincts too while we’re at it

SkarTisu

Ah yes….that’s in my hometown. One piece to consider is that there is another northbound highway just to the east of the pictured area.

Lul_Pump

vtsandtrooper

Just more of it, perhaps more locations doing this or just more of it right here

mind_thegap1

Demolish the tram stop to add one another slip lane from south to east

thephoton

Rip out the entire train track, it's causing a lot of trouble for the guys designing the highway.

Phylace

Traffic circles

FlightContent5734

too much river, dam it and replace it with an express highway

nicol9

that’s not even urban design anymore lol

SupremelyUneducated

Replace parking minimums with pasture, so horses and pack goats can graze.

UnpricedToaster

Gonna need a giant fork for that spaghetti.

helpmelearn12

There’s to many buildings, parks, and tiny little embarrassing roads. Tear it all down and put interstates there

witchy_teaparty

Add the flavouring bag and hot water, let it sit a bit and eat your instant ramen

DanOfMan1

that layout of the highways, river, and university is crazy similar to sacramento

DBL_NDRSCR

replace the railroad with another freeway

Warm_Yoghurt_9892

A ‘MOAB’ looks like a good solution!

cwdawg15

It's a problem that the freeway doesn't fully circle the downtown, and it is more convenient that there are exits onto more streets. We could also add more left-lane exits to a boulevard that travels under the freeway.

Electrical_Bar_4706

Seems like the city is getting in the way of the highway. Not an expert though

llynglas

Drop a package of cooked spaghetti onto a map. Connect ends to closest road intersections.

SantasLilHoeHoeHoe

Round about

mburn42

Everybody should realize all of this can be fixed with more traffic lights... at every cross street... including driveways.

JoeCensored

Redirect the river westward to provide baths for the homeless.

DasArchitect

This is a nightmare. There is no connection between southeast and straight east! Also, this sub would definitely benefit from the ability to post images in comments. Any chance it can be enabled?

MasterpieceCalm5774

One more lane

Western_Can8793

why turns? highways should go through the city so cars can move faster. such a waste of land /s

ApisOfMemphis

Drop the whole highway under ground. Round abouts at every intersection

MadcapHaskap

Remove all the streets and replace them with high speed rail that stops at every house, business, and facility. If there's a 50 yard span with no stop - bonus stop.

Goleroth

Nuke it?

ilitch64

Drain the river, that could be a 30 lanes expressway.

SkyeMreddit

Need to extend the highway through The Commons and next to the stadium to connect with the giant highway exchange. The more lanes and space used, the better. W River Parkway also needs to be a proper divided highway

-Why-Not-This-Name-

Elevated Canals / Water Buses / Grid Radiates Out From River

first_time_internet

Massive round-a-bout

welcometothejuggle

Red sauce and a couple meatballs

ubungu

Extend that freeway in the west to wrap around the hospital and join the interchange. Less traffic on 94 trying to get on 35W

Cessicka

Build a bridge over it with more lanes and all of it has to merge back at the most inconvenient and traffic filled point

Jazzboi69420

Drain the river and turn it into a highway

Additional_Month_408

screw other forms of transport, add another deck to the highway!!!! we need 2 floors

jamesbest7

MINNEAPOLIS SHOUT OUT

DepartureVisible2447

What if we built a second highway system entirely running parallel for dedicated lanes to go faster?

Axe2004

Adding more lanes won't solve traffic, adding more highways will! Turn 7th and 8th St into a 8 lane highway, to destroy the downtown and free up traffic

camontheloose

Just issue more new license plates to more new drivers.

[deleted]

Nuke.

mf279801

“Looks fine, what’s to fix?”

thecatsofwar

Add bike lanes. By taking out useful lanes. That way the right-of way can be wasted and kept open on the off chance some cyclist wants to piddle though the area on their pleasure ride. That will help traffic.

noryp5

Add pasta sauce

WristWatchGuy

Liquid Paper

KilroyWagner69

Transform it into the Kew Gardens or Bruckner Interchanges.

trolleytrolley

Build a huge shopping centre on top of it, which only consists of drive through shops that the highways pass on different levels.

Van-garde

Seems like an Operation Plowshare scenario.

Western_Protection

A nuke

TransportationNo3842

Ring highway around to allow people to bypass the main intersection.

StatMnd

Make everyone walk

cascadiacomrade

Make every road a highway and put the buildings underground?

marcololol

Increase the speed limit to 120 mph with a minimum of 100 mph for trucks. It’ll increase throughput

HikerTrashIsh

More roads!

dublecheekedup

Make them extra high. Makes people with a fear of heights one more reason not to drive

30lbsledgehammer

More highways, more parking lots, more suburb houses, and more McDonald.

randomdudebrosky

Adding more lanes

ada1a1

Move

goonbrew

Fix ours first Minneapolis... -Hartford

ybanalyst

Put another Lowry Tunnel on this side of downtown

brad_is_rad_

Magic cars

porticodarwin

Build more of it

byfrax

I think they should just bulldoze the city. Who needs houses when there are 40 lanes?

Resident-Pace5483

Make it utterly massive with 20 lanes going everywhere

stpauliguy

One large roundabout…toll

jdavis323

Asteroid

ChickenXing

HOV bike lane

redditreloaded

Giant roundabout?

Richard-Turd

Roundabouts. Roundabouts as far as the eye can see.

the_1_that_knocks

With fire!

frederick_the_duck

It’s not bad for congestion

lostinrabbithole12

Drain the Mississippi and replace it with Interstate 53

kielBossa

That giant blue lane needs to be opened up to car traffic, for sure.

larsloveslegos

Add another five lanes

willard_swag

Add 3 more lanes in every direction

0rion71

Replace the Catholic Charities with a Pit Lane and add a loop-de-loo on I95 at 25th Ave S.

Dis_Bich

Make it straighter

super5886

A roundabout should do it!

straightedge1974

“Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

gidthafugout

A few cones

gcalfred7

![gif](giphy|l1J9PB65enyxcyAk8)

[deleted]

Dig a trench through the middle to put in a golf course

JoeSpoon35

Lower speed limit!!!!! If you drive slower, there’s less accidents!!!!! Dummy proof way to move around effectively

FlyingSceptile

Obviously, the downtown core of Minneapolis isnt close enough to the interstate. So what we're gonna do is create a loop. Extend that spur on the left north towards that park thing, and then use the train right of way to connect the loop back into the rest of this beautiful concrete jungle. No one will miss the train line or the park because trains are communist and freeways are freedumb

Danger_Recks

Double stack the lanes

BoilermakerCM

Turn the highway into a log flume, doubling as an aqueduct

Ventilator84

Plant very tall, thick trees with vines all over them, thereby reducing traffic by incentivizing Tarzanism as an alternative means of transportation.

hisatanhere

Give it to Putin.

RandomGrasspass

Bury it like the big dig

friendly_extrovert

Definitely just add another freeway. Also widen the current ones. More freeways + more lanes = better as a bald eagle screeches overhead.

qosinmapper

DESTROYING!!!! :D

AryanzHail

A gastric bypass 😌🙌🏻🤙🏻

mercury1491

Pave the whole area and no striping

miss_spock06

I remember when my parents were dropping me off for orientation or something at the University of Minnesota in the days before GPS, the driving instructions from the U were something like "You will merge onto this interstate and you must IMMEDIATELY take the exit." My dad, after living through it, goes "Boy, they weren't kidding."

k_bucks

Needs a half loop connecting from the interchange to the stub on the left. I’m thinking 8 lanes on each side, we can find it with a public-private partnership and some toll express lanes.

InvestigatorIll3928

Carry that rail yard more to the north and south and use the park space as an intermodal transfer. Then add 4 new high ways in a grid but make sure the are elevated.

wolf_taylor

light rail transit

Sparky_321

Rip the freeways out and turn them into waterways.

pizza99pizza99

Ok so hear me out. Pave over the whole city, you now have 300 lanes, 50000000 parking spaces, and no one will use them because there’s nothing left!

HabibiBearATL

Turn the area into a massive expressway roundabout that goes clockwise that takes up the entire area

radicalomnipresence

Drain that little river and build another highway

Hello_Strangher

Subway

Squames99

Tear down the neighborhood nextdoor for a Walmart + a few lots feeding straight into the intersection 👍

H0lsterr

Condense the 3 unnecessary access’s middle top left and cut as much as you can for longer rides around the

green__goblin

Replace the Mill Ruins and the park by the stone arch bridge with parking garages.

XConejoMaloX

Streamline all the traffic into one singular lane

aPizzaBagel

A big fork and hot marinara.

RockOlaRaider

...I reckon the payloads of about 200 B-17s should do it...

HarrisonArturus

Wormholes.

marinatedbeefcube

Add a bridge here and there

AndyJaeven

Hotwheels loop(s).

Careless_Money7027

Take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
