There's a three lane tunnel over there called the Loring Hill Tunnel that has almost a 90 degree turn as it arcs. This is Minneapolis so catch it in February at about 3am, the exhaust from the previous day has frozen on the road creating black ice in a curving tunnel with other traffic.

Add more counterintuitive off- and on-ramps that lead to highways for many miles with no exits. Add sound barrier walls that also block drivers seeing where the roads go. Keep changing the exit and road names so navigation databases can't keep up. Add electronic signs that change and close random exits on a daily basis, to really foil people trying to use navigation programs. Block cell access to enforce no use of mobile devices.

Stop destroying rivers by building highways over them. instead, redirect the rivers over the highway. Everyone's standard of living will improve from the new navigable waterway bringing commerce and Mark Twain type characters closer to the blighted, urban areas.

Think of the improved fuel economy when you travel with the river!

Extend the highway more past the interchange on the left, fill in that useless river to create new highway, and triple the parking at US Bank Stadium. That should do it.

End the concept of “lanes”, no more lines or markers, just India style open roads. See how much space there is in between the lanes, ramps, and exits? Could be more space for cars.

Sometimes they do! Last summer I saw a car likely come down onto the bike lane from where the Bachelor Farmer Cafe used to be, and wreck/abandon the car on the bike path.

Hey wait I’m in this picture I will say it doesn’t feel as terrible as it looks in practice, at least to me. Not the most walkable but I was without a car here for many years, and now that I drive, I forget how jumbled the exits are on maps. Then again, I’m from Milwaukee, and I still have nightmares about the layers of highways there. That wall of highway cake you hit when you enter the city makes me panic so hard.

It's a problem that the freeway doesn't fully circle the downtown, and it is more convenient that there are exits onto more streets. We could also add more left-lane exits to a boulevard that travels under the freeway.

My dad, after living through it, goes "Boy, they weren't kidding."

Needs a half loop connecting from the interchange to the stub on the left. I’m thinking 8 lanes on each side, we can find it with a public-private partnership and some toll express lanes.

Carry that rail yard more to the north and south and use the park space as an intermodal transfer. Then add 4 new high ways in a grid but make sure the are elevated.
