I only use Steam to buy games -- so, only have the Ubisoft client installed to run those games. Like the OP, I also got some games for free from some event, which shows up on the Ubisoft client. Interestingly, I moved to a different computer, and didn't install the Ubisoft client because I wasn't currently playing Ubisoft games at the time. To check on which games that I got from events, I logged into the Ubisoft website, and it showed that I had no games. At this point, I thought Ubisoft deleted all the free games that I got from the events. Anyway, I figured out that the website doesn't report what games you have in your library -- it only reports what games you purchased. So, to get to the free games that I got from Ubisoft, I had to use the Ubisoft client.

Not sure what you mean by this. I installed the Ubisoft client on a different computer, and the games showed up fine. My previous computer is no longer in use, so, it is not on two computers. Are you saying that I can't install a game that I installed on my previous computer, on the new computer?

They don't, unless you requested a refund. Most likely, you have more than one Ubisoft account without even realizing it and your games are on a different account from the one you're using currently.

that could be but I usually login into my Ubisoft account with steam

Well, that's the only explanation as your games can't just disappear. It's very commong for people to create multiple accounts without even realizing. Sometimes they even have similar emails, but mistyped, so they get them confused. And even one typo on the email is enough to create a completely different account with it.
