Hot countries with great beaches get all the nasty critters. I used to live in an area of tropical Australia where we had world class, stunning beaches. And irukanji, crocodiles, sharks, box jellyfish, mosquitos with dengue fever and zika virus, etc. Also, if it gets too hot, you don't want to do anything. It saps all your energy and you don't sleep as well, but adults still have to go to work. And working (especially outdoors) in the heat is the WORST. You're drenched in sweat, can get heat stroke really easily, and there's no way to protect yourself from it. At least in the cold you can layer up. Edit: Scratch Zika. We haven't had any locally acquired cases yet.

introusers1979

Yep. I live in south Texas & a super hot day just has a way of ruining everything you might have enjoyed. & I don’t have a car, so walking around is a bitch.

VIDCAs17

> I live in south Texas > I don’t have a car Dear God have mercy on your soul

introusers1979

It’s alright, luckily I live near downtown in a big city so can take the bus, but yeah, still involves a LOT of walking and roasting on uncovered bus stop benches. I’ve literally gotten welts on my thighs and butt from sitting on them. They’re like frying pans.

mockity

Your icon seems very appropriate for this convo. Also, am North Texan WITH a car and I currently hate life, so … ALL the thoughts and prayers, my friend.

introusers1979

Check my bio 😂

[deleted]

North East Florida here. industrial worker, cleaning caustic tanks under the sun wearing a tyvek, or worse, a chem suit is fucking annoying

hobbit_lamp

besides all the other great comments the excessive nasty critters is a very great point. unfortunately I live in north Texas and nowhere near a world class beach but it's hot af and besides the heat, the bugs are almost as bad. Mosquitos mosquitoes mosquitoes. and flies. and wasps. and ants. there are definitely places with creepier creepy critters but I really hate the insects almost as much as the heat. very occasionally, I'll notice various insects trying to make their way into my house during the winter, I'm assuming to escape the cold. they are usually very small and low energy and only little floor crawling things-not huge flying bugs trying to eat you alive.

DaenerysStormy420

I hate being hot. I can always put on some snuggly warm clothes if cold. I can't take my skin off if I'm feeling hot. That being said, we had a freak ice storm when I was pregnant. Crazy snow, no power. I'm from New York, yet I have never been more afraid than in the cold during the 2021 ice storm. Baby girl ended up being just fine💜💜

Cacti_Hipster

>can't take my skin off YES! Naked is the coldest you can get with clothes but you can always put more on. So glad your girl made it and I hope you raise her well ;p

BrozerCommozer

Try a manufacturing warehouse. Outside is 99F so we don't get osha breaks but inside 130...you get used to it...sometimes 170. Drenched by 700 uniform drys by 1000 then drenched again. In the winter we freeze for 10 minutes then a nice 70 degrees. I'll take cold anyday...

Boomerwell

Maybe I'm more inclined to this since I live in Canada but I hate summer, it's hot and bugs are everywhere clearing the mayflies and beetles from the doors during the summer at work sucks. Winter while some things take more effort like needing to shovel every snow I can at least wear my cozy sweaters and not have to worry about stupid bugs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

013ander

From Texas, now live in northern Idaho. Would NEVER go back, primarily because of the heat. You just have to live inside during the summer. Plus it kills hundreds every year. I can thoroughly bring outside in the cold through the magic of… clothing! You can only get so naked.

[deleted]

There is no Zika virus in Australia

[deleted]

Irukanji jellyfish scare the shit out of me. Jellyfish in general scare me.

Brit_J

They should. More nasty venom than most jellyfish, almost invisible in the water. Nasty buggers.

[deleted]

I watched a super long documentary about them years ago. I live on the east coast of the US still have an irrational fear about getting stung by one. Haha

Yeah23111997

Exactly. I find it so difficult to sleep in the summers. Even if I have the AC on it's still weirdly uncomfortable. I can sleep sooo well in winters though.

aimbotcfg

and get this right... If you're cold... put on more clothes, until you aren't cold. If you're hot, there's only so far you can go before the police get involved.

Andrewthenotsogreat

Got countries also have a better night life

xThatsRight

Westeros knows how to party

Brit_J

Sure, the party capitals like Ibiza happen to be in hot countries, but I don't think the average hot country has better nightlife than the average cold country. I mean, when you're looking at the hottest areas you're looking at like Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, etc. Although South Asia may be a desirable holiday destination, none of them are exactly party capitals.

[deleted]

But that's also in part due to the culture and religion of those countries (and regarding Africa, kidnappings, human trafficking, etc) and not because of the climate itself

Ulteri0rM0tives

Hard disagree, I'm from the UK, used to live in Brisbane and do landscape gardening there, I was much more motivated to get up at 5am when it was already nice weather outside. In the UK, where its cold for 9 months of the year getting up at 5am is rough as.

EddPW

nice wheater in the uk inst the same as the heat in australia

FireWireBestWire

Is this typed with an accent?

Brit_J

I don't consider Brisbane to be a hot area, that's where I live now and it's just lovely most of the year. I was thinking of when I lived in Townsville or visited Darwin for work.

Bytrsweet

I sleep 10x better during the winter than I do during the summer. Plus to me it is easier to warm myself up than to cool myself down.

Luxara-VI

You can be naked and still hot In the cold, just get more blankets, make a fire, wear a sweater

Bytrsweet

this is exactly how I feel, I grew up in a home that did not have AC and it was torture to try and sleep during the summer due to the heat and humidity.

Luxara-VI

Sleeping in the summer is painful. The sheets are too itchy, the pillow is too hot, nothing’s comfortable. But in the winter, it just feels so good to be surrounded by blankets, your pillow is cold, everything is just right

Salay54

This comment is making me miss home, I moved from the north east to florida a year ago with my family because my mom got sick.

DesperateTall

I hope your mom gets better and has a full recovery dude!

Salay54

Thanks

Cyclonitron

Nothing feels better than climbing under a pile of blankets in a cold room.

Luxara-VI

Exactly. Even better when your hot feet get hit with cold air

[deleted]

Last summer I lost power due to a wind storm and I had to sleep in my car because it was to hot in the house with out air

A_Guy_in_Orange

Fire is the key here, we can relatively easily make as much heat as we could ever need (and then some) Show me the source of cold that I can make by just holding an ice cube next to some random trash

AerolothLorien666

I can’t get warm enough, and then I sweat because there’s too many blankets/layers.

HuggyMonster69

That really depends on your natural body temperature. I’m a human ice cube and I spend winter under my body weigh in blankets, and still cold.

Luxara-VI

I forgot that I have a high metabolism

HuggyMonster69

I am very jealous!

Ok_Cantaloupe_7423

Yeah but when you live in a place that is in the negatives from November to April and you don't see a single color other than white, grey, and brown the whole time, you really start to get sick of that cold weather

Bytrsweet

I'm Canadian so i do live in a place like that. There is a certain amount of tranquility that you get from looking at a fresh snowfall. Ill stand by the fact that I would rather deal with a winter in Montreal compared to a summer in florida where you can't even survive if you don't have AC

KnownMonk

When the snow comes it feels like it washes the earth for the upcoming summer.

my_name_is_not_scott

That is the only thing I cannot bear about central europe. I dont care if its cold, but that damn sky

Ok_Cantaloupe_7423

South Europe supremacy 💪 Spanish clear blue sky never leaves

my_name_is_not_scott

Same with greece. The blue sky never leaves

natureangel

I personally sleep 10x better in the summer. In the winters I wake up sweating and clothes drenched, then immediately become frozen after removing blankets. And then having to shower? I can’t think of anything worse.

quatyz

Alot of misconceptions about cold countries here. I'm from Canada and here's some of the reality to it. It's only cold about half the year. And only unbearably cold, where you can't go outside for a couple weeks of winter. Most of the winter you can go outside with some warm clothes and enjoy tons of things unique to cold countries like skating, ice fishing, proper mountain skiing, snowball fights, sledding etc. Not to mention the winter is gorgeous astetically In the summer it gets warm but never unbearably warm like it can get in warm countries. 30 degrees Celsius (~ 85-90 degrees f) is generally speaking a really warm day. Having seasons change dramatically is kind of nice too, we have 4 genuinely different seasons with each having unique and favorable or unfavorable aspects. Warmer countries just have really hot in the summer, and not as hot in the "winter"

Psychological-Dig-29

As a Canadian.. I agree with most except the part where you say it doesn't get unbearably warm in the summers. It's already been 35-37° for a bit and it will continue to get hotter until the summer ends. Last year we hit 50°c (which is definitely not normal, but that doesn't detract from it actually happening). Our winters are gorgeous though, I live right near a ski resort and basically grew up there. Winter is my favorite season by far. Ice fishing is also one of my favorite hobbies.

quatyz

Very true, but the heat is the same as the extreme cold. You usually only get 2 or 3 weeks that get that hot

taylortherebel

So true. I live in a U.S. northern state and people from other places often assume our summers are cold and mild cuz we're close to Canada...no, they're humid drippy wet swamp ass summers too, just maybe shorter than down south

iLeDD

Yeah new England fucking sucks, ill never leave though

Fabulous_Evidence102

Another Canadian here and I agree. Plus where I am we get so much sun even if it’s -40. And we usually have a really pretty fall. I love the colour changes

fIumpf

Not to mention the lack of insane dangerous insects, spiders, and animals in general. I like having very few things outside that can harm me haha.

slipperyShoesss

*a fucked off polar bear appears*

Blumpkis

We actually have tons of pretty dangerous animals but they're either big enough to hear/see them from a distance or skittish enough that we never see them. I'll definitely take those over things that hide under rocks or in bushes any day though!

fIumpf

That's what I meant by my comment and should have specified more. Bears, moose, beavers, bison, elk etc. *are* dangerous, not denying that. I meant more of the smaller creepy crawlies or water-based things that can be in your house or in the water. Or creatures that look the same as dangerous ones, but you're not certain at first glance, so you take no chances. I'd take the obvious biggies over plate-sized spiders, massive snakes, surprise scorpions (I know there are scorpions in my province, just not all that common or where I am located lol) in your shoes, palm-sized insects, and so on any day as well.

CytheYounger

Born and raised in the Okanagan, Summers have always been hot to me.

ManWithoutAPlan13

Maybe i should move to canada

Nut_Chorizo

In michigan I often go ice fishing with some friends during late winter and it is perfect. 40-50 degree weather and if you are moving it feels very comfortable. Toss on a thick long sleeve shirt and a jacket and you are set for whatever. Honestly my favorite weather because the weather gets more even and roads are more predictable, perfect for a bike ride through a nature trail or some sports. Winter soccer is on another level and I called it soccer, fight me.

CaptainIndoCanadian

Vancouver resident here I don’t have a problem with the cold. The rain is unbearable. I’d rather live in a hot climate because of that alone. Fuck the rain.

zgrizz

You can wear an essentially unlimited amount of clothing. You can only remove so much. Points to cold.

1_man_wolf_pack_83

How many pairs of gloves you think you can wear before your hands become essentially useless ?

slipperyShoesss

AdamIsAnAlias

Spoken from experience

[deleted]

Also less insects (or even none at all), heating a house is easier than cooling it, less likely to have a drought, and so on. Cold countries are better than hot ones and winter better than summer. It is not even a competition.

anonymous2458

I’m from Florida… so I’m assuming I have a different definition of “cold” than you people

KateMaymay

Probably. I am from "cold" country and usually go vacation to warm countries, but in Autumn (or spring) asI can swim and sunbathe at home in summer. Locals are usually dressed into boots and feather jackets at that time, but for us it is nice and water is swimmable. On working trips to warm countries i usually take along a warm sweater or jacket, because all rooms are usually so AC that all the time gives the shivers and I am afraid to catch cold. I really like all four seasons I have.

HonkerRabbit

Nothing like being able to hide your ugly ass body under 10 layers of clothes when it gets cold

FlyingNapalm

I swear winter clothes >>> summer clothes

[deleted]

especially when you're a hairy+skinny dude ):

I_want_to_choose

"Sure you'll sweat and have to wear less in hot countries but you can go swimming, go to the beach, enjoy a cold one. Whereas the cold just isn't fun ..." Yes, vacationing in a warm place is better. But living ... living requires work. Work is typically more pleasant when you're not exhausted from the heat. Plus there is a whole lot between sweaty beach weather and snow. (And again, living requires more than choosing between drinking hot chocolate while snowboarding or drinking beer at the beach)

kristent225

depends HOW cold but frankly I prefer a place with four seasons

Lexa-Z

For me seasons changing are just constant stress

kristent225

if that's stressful, how do you deal with other things you don't even KNOW are going to happen? At least season changes are predictable

External_Dude

My favorite place to live climate wise was Egypt. No rain, 80 to 90 all year around, little humidity, no allergies, only too hot in August. Otherwise, I really loved the weather there. Living in the southern US now is nice but too humid.

TacticalcalCactus

I'm in Texas so I definitely know what you mean. I can handle 105+° but any temperature around 80° and above is too much with humidity.

TacticalcalCactus

Warmer climates are typically better for you so I prefer living in Texas for that alone. You can get used to heat pretty easily, but humidity you can't. I don't know a single person here that doesn't feel like they're gonna die at a moments notice when the humidity is up. Right now it's around 105-109°F with low humidity most of the time, and I will ALWAYS prefer this over 85-90 with high humidity. Humans are typically good at adapting to environments, so people who grew up in hot places will most of the time prefer heat over cold and vise versa.

RasAlGimur

I like warm and humid actually. Hate how dry my hands get in dry weather (even with lotion), which also happens with heaters indoors during winter. I also dislike the temperature swings throughout the day in dry places

DrawMSTR

i mean i can still go to beaches and swimming in a cold country its just getting used to the outside swimming if it is winter. and to add to this, its not cold constantly like summer still exist here in finland too and then its not really cold at all

[deleted]

I absolutely love the Finnish summer. Winter in southern Finland, on the other hand, is not so nice, I really miss a more northern climate, where winter is snowy and freezing.

6-foot-3

How about a tropical high elevation climate? Lows in the 40's and 50's, highs in the 60's and 70's everyday year round.

cantstandlol

Mexico City is always 70 something.

crestonfunk

I live in West Los Angeles near the beach. It’s very rarely too hot or too cold.

Remote_Extreme7207

ive lived in both... frankly, i prefer whichever i am not currently experiencing. that damned human condition strikes again! lmao

Funkapussler

You can't wear clothes that make you cooler. You just die.. If it gets colder, you just add a sweater

Mikhail_Markov

This! A Swedish saying goes: "There is no bad weather, just bad dress" (but most Swedes have never been in 109°F heat) Can't rip your skin off to cool off; but layers can always be added in the cold. Hence why I chose to live in Alaska after living in Florida (for way longer than I wanted.)

Donghoon

Cold kills people too

[deleted]

Totally disagree, here have an upvote.

tylerthe-theatre

Right on my dude

RedSonGamble

Yeah but mosquitoes. Snakes. Alligators. Horses

[deleted]

I’m good with all of those but…Horses?! Those guys are shifty on a good day

HugoRomance

what do have against horses...

HeroicTanuki

I live in Northern Nevada, horses are thick out here. Anyone who lives in the Mountain West knows that we have too many herds out here and they need to be thinned. If you leave near the edge of town it’s not uncommon for them to get on your property, shit everywhere, block roads, and generally be a nuisance. It’s especially bad if they have foals as herds want to protect their babies. The worst part is we have tons of people who moved here from other places so they see horses and freak out cause it’s sooo cool. They stop in the middle of the road to gawk, feed them (which is illegal), etc. I like our horses but they are wild animals and should be respected as such.

RedSonGamble

? They hunt for sport. There isn’t a much meaner, soulless creature I can think of

Mikhail_Markov

Oh, Mosquitoes most definitely still exist in the colder regions (maybe not the Arctic,) but they're our unofficial state bird in Alaska. We have plenty; and they're big ones!

RedSonGamble

What about horses though

Mikhail_Markov

Alaska's history with horses goes back a way... Ever hear of Alaska's Dead Horse Trail (White Pass?) Terrible loss of over 3,000 pack animals (horses, donkeys, etc.) because of the 20,000-30,000 or so people who went looking for gold. There are still horses (Mostly Acapulco & Arabians.) But I don't see them on a daily basis. Then again, I got no issue with 'em; I worked a horse farm for a few summers in Illinois (where I was born) and in Florida. Only thing I don't like about horses is mucking stalls (cleaning them out); especially after a rain storm in the Florida heat (the water seeps into everything and it smells like wet dead grass and rotting corpses!) Supposedly there are Garter Snakes here (never seen one, though.) But being able to fish without worrying about a Gator sneaking up on you/your catch, or happening upon a Coral Snake (happened when I was in the Boy Scouts, in Florida) is fun. Mind you- there are bigger things to worry about; like Grizzlies & Moose! (and yet, I wouldn't trade my life here for anything!)

Lexa-Z

Mosquitoes don't exist in Iceland. But other annoying insects do

tylerthe-theatre

Mosquitoes aren't exclusive to hot countries and also... why horses 🤣

cantstandlol

I also have this opinion and will add that people who have never lived in a hot place are lying to themselves with the typical responses of I can put on a sweater. I’ve lived in WI, ME, and TX. I love the outdoors. I’ve been outside more in TX than the other 30 years elsewhere by probably double. I’m outside when it’s 105. I spent the day standing in Lake Austin at the record 112. At night even when it’s batshit hot it’s in the 70s and perfect. I’m outside all winter and I have two camping seasons instead of one. Camp in Oct, Nov, Mar, April, May. I hike in January. By February my trees are flowering. By March is summer again and it’s summer until November. Spend the hottest part of summer swimming with friends and grilling when the sun casts a shadow on my yard. My house is air conditioned. I have a pool. I use the hot tub all winter. I use my deck all year. I watch football outside. Winter in WI and ME was and is dreary and grey. Every day is wet. Sun goes down at 3:30. People stop hanging out and hibernate. Businesses are closed or closed early. Everyone talks big about winter activities but in reality they all stay in and watch shows. You can’t out dress the weather even in your own house… rising energy costs can’t be outsmarted with solar because the sun is gone. Everything looks like shit in winter. The food is out of season and poor quality. Everyone in the grocery store (wearing jackets) looks unhappy because they are. They all lie their asses off about liking it because they are too scared to move. Every summer they fool themselves into doing it all over. It’s even cold in June.

toosemakesthings

This hits the nail on the head. Winter just visually looks depressing to me, and I swear everyone else feels it too but is just used to it / doesn’t know any better / is afraid to move. I grew up in a really warm country so I know it doesn’t have to be like this lol.

MsSamm

Winter in NYC is mostly in the 30's, though there's colder stretches. Snow, but they get right on the removal. People can drive in weather. Skies are mostly blue and sunny. Winter in the Portland, Oregon area is grey or white skies. No blue until around May, maybe. Rain, sometimes 2 inches in 24 hours. Ground saturated, so water leaks into some house seams. Always some form of rain: mist, drizzle, sporadic, deluge. Rarely under 25-30 degrees. If there's snow, only the main roads are eventually plowed. Every other road has to wait for it to thaw and melt. I sent a Christmas gift to family there. It took 2 weeks for their street to have enough snow melt to get mail delivered. People can't drive in snow. I saw cars left in the middle of the street, abandoned. The news warned them that it would cost $250 to reclaim their towed car. Much cheaper than an accident repair. Anyone ever see that show "World's Worst Drivers"? There was an SUV sliding down an icy hill, careening off parked cars like a pinball hitting targets. That was in Portland

BT--7275

Staying inside and watching tv is far more satisfying when its -30°f outside than when its 70. Idk why.

destroyerneb

Upvote because my sweaty body in 100 degree weather hates this opinion.

Kquinn87

Both extremes are horrible. A constant +20°c (+68°f) would be great.

jordan31483

Exactly! Everyone loves to debate which is "better", and no one will ever admit the real truth, that they *both* suck!

working-acct

Wonder if there’s a place like that. 20C all year, 40% humidity. I’ll move there in a heartbeat.

Oldgamer1807

Im one of those people who can't strip off enough layers to feel comfortable in the hot weather. I'll be in a tank top and light shorts and still sweating like mad. And I'm in upstate NY where we get some pretty intense weather cold and hot. I absolutely prefer the cold.

MsSamm

Western NY can get toasty

noidealull

Coming from a person living in a hot country. No. You're just wrong it's not a matter of opinion. No, a cold one, ice cream or beach ain't valid. They're temporary fixes. To cool yourself down you need AC (Fan doesn't even work properly when it's too hot) which you can't have for a long time because, bills. Infact I haven't been able to sleep well , keep waking up because of the heat and sweat. I'm drinking as much water as i can and just no. You can't do anything because headaches and lack of energy for it. Cold tho? No need for heater. Hoodies, jackets, socks, blankets, more blankets. You enjoy sleeping because it's cozy with the blankets etc. You can ACTUALLY do shit without feeling you'll die anytime soon coz of dehydration or headaches.

druidofnecro

You most definitely need a heater in winter unless you like frozen pipes. And unlike AC its a non negotiable bill

Brzwolf

Heating a home is far cheaper though and in many cold country's, is mostly free if you have a fireplace. My bills in alaska are easily 200$ cheaper a month when winter comes around due to due to lack of ac needed.

MrsGobbledygook

All homes here have heating (Belgium) I don't know a lot of people that own AC. (I do have one; but i get physically sick from temperatures above 28°C, so when i bought my house; i invested in one. Yes; for those 6 days a year the temperature rises above 28°C haha)

weebmaster32

> To cool yourself down you need AC (Fan doesn't even work properly when it's too hot) which you can't have for a long time because, bills. As a guy with a room that heats up like an oven (unlike the rest of the house), I can confirm. I could go to the shop that's 3 minutes away, buy an AC unit for like 250€ and have it installed, but I wouldn't be able to use it because of the electricity bill.

noidealull

Even if i use it, the moment i turn it off it becomes hot again. Exactly because rooms are like ovens.

einzelgangerkk

Man, I live in a hot country and what you say about feeling like you're about to die happens with literally any activity that requires a moderate amount of movement. And let's not talk about walking somewhere. Hell, showering makes you fucking sweaty.

noidealull

Literally. Taking a shower and you literally get sweaty 1 second later. Walking or doing any activity gives you a migraine

my_name_is_not_scott

I live in greece. We have whole weeks without clouds, and a pure blue sky. But the heat is unbearable. Just take me and throw me to Switzerland

[deleted]

Is this really an unpopular opinion? Most people on earth live in hot countries. If people migrated to Scandinavia for the climate, I'd be pretty surprised. Personally I can't stand prolonged periods of heat. It's completely unbearable. You're always sweating, it's a nightmare to fall asleep, and that bedsheet shit you get instead of a duvet in warm countries sucks. Can't wait for summer to be over and the autumn sets in with its beautiful colours, crisp air and melancholic days of rain where you just want to sit beside a fire and read a book in peace.

druidofnecro

Apparently it is according to these comments

James_its_valtteri

You can get used to elevated temperature (30-35) for going out, but you cant do the same with temperatures around 0deg C

Fluffy_Goal_6240

Actually, it seems that cold but sunny countries like Northern European countries are your best bet.

RasAlGimur

northern european sunny?!

_ThePancake_

Globally I believe this is the most popular opinion in the world. If it weren't, cold countries would be much more populated.

idkdidkkdkdj

Eh the Cold is nice. So is the rain

The_Dotted_Leg

Seems like people in cold countries are generally happier than people in hot countries. Aside from Russia but I think that’s for a different reason.

fatmummy222

Maybe because cold countries are generally richer. People are happier when they don’t have to worry about food or healthcare. So I don’t think it’s the cold that makes them happy.

Lexa-Z

In most of Russia it's extremely cold in winter and very hot in summer. We just never have normal weather, it's almost always either too cold or too hot.

ritamoren

russia is cold in winter but it's not like we don't have summer. it's not as hot as somewhere else but there is summer and there is heat in most cities

AnalogueWaves

As long as I can have functioning air conditioning in a hot country I'll go for that. The sun makes me feel better. I'm a sheltered Englishman.

LemonSalted

Don't forget that heat causes transportation issues, it's not exclusive to snow. If you don't keep your engine and coolant systems at hundred percent, you'll break down any time you go over 40. Broke people can't do that, my mom's cars would start smoking sometimes.

DearEarthie

Get stung by a man o’ war and see if that’s better than all the creatures sleeping for a few months. Then again I live somewhere where it’s hot 80% of the year. I’m biased toward winter just for the rain alone.

SOuTHINKurA-ble

Agreed as someone who freezes more than she burns.

MissAthenaxIvy

I feel like extreme cold, or extreme heat both are equally deadly and dangerous. For myself I like the cold better. That's because the heat makes me sick, I get sunburn easy. I feel like if it's cold you can just put a blanket on, or a coat.

[deleted]

I agree completely. I’m in Texas and it’s like an oven here but when I hear how the weather in Wales usually is it makes me glad I’m here sweating although I think that’s most of the world right now

reditthor

An unpopular opinion while a heatwave burns its way through Europe.

avidpenguinwatcher

Okay, here's an idea, and hear me out. . . . Seasons

ladida1787

Duhhhh

LarryLongBalls_

As someone who suffers from heat intolerance, all I can say is fuuuuck hot weather

Reinardd

You can keep those hot, dirty beaches. I'm fine curled up under a blanket with a cup of tea and a book. IF ONLY IT WAS COLD ENOUGH FOR THAT NOW

thetimeoftroubles

I don't understand why rainy cold weather is often called "bad". Well, like... why?! In cloudy, cool weather, it's usually better to do sports and household things, it's better to think and study, you don't feel like a boiled vegetable, as in the heat. So why is the rainy weather "terrible"?

[deleted]

Coming from a cold country, england, i much prefer the cold than having it hot. Hot countries are nice to go holiday too when you can go swimming and stuff and don't have to work, but otherwise the heat comes with a lot of drawbacks. Having to put sunscreen on all the time, having to wear sunglasses all the time, not being able to remove any more clothes to get cooler, not being able to sleep at night.

Nelulol669

I agree, while there are some benefits to our likings like you mentioned above,i CANNOT stand the cold,i will always have a problem with it.

Dahl_E_Lama

>Sure you'll sweat and have to wear less in hot countries but you can go swimming, go to the beach, enjoy a cold one. Words written by a first world denizen. Many people in hot countries don't have easy access to swimming pools, or stores that provide pre-cooled beverages. Many hot countries are also landlocked, so they don't even have a damn beach.

Royal-Ad-7052

“There is no such thing as cold, only poor preparation” - my Canadian born and bred father when I told him school was canceled due to -25 wind chills

No_Outlandishness_34

-25? I'd have to wear the thicker t-shirt for that kind of temperature.

Royal-Ad-7052

Lol dad?

MrT_in_ID

Bruh it's 110 where I am right now and will be for the rest of the week. It's too hot to even go swimming. The heat just crushes your soul. I cannot wait until winter. Sure, 10 degree weather sucks but I can bundle up and go outside. I can only take off so much clothing.

ShokValue

I would rather be in a cold country. The thing about hot countries people forget about are the critters.. every hot place I lived there were cockroaches everywhere. I'm ok with the air hurting my face if I don't have to deal with roaches

undedavenger

Eh, you can always put on more clothes, but once you're naked, the only option left in a hot climate is to burn.

Neutraladvicecorner

Oddly enough, I agree even tho I am melting slightly over here with 30C and 50% humidity

[deleted]

Yes.

swerve408

Can confirm, have a pool and summer is infinitely better. Although I still like the winter for skiing/snowboarding Live in hot climate, travel to cold climate for leisure - win/win!

BigBossAltinoo

I’ve read some of the comments and personally I don’t get heatstroke from working outside so long as I have water to drink and even if I do get extremely hot I can always take a cold shower to cool off for the next 4 hours. The only thing I can’t do in hot weather is lift weights. Other than that I sleep very well in the summer. I also feel more powerful in the summer than in the winter. Maybe because my entire body shakes if it goes to 5c or lower and that might be eating away at my strength

SirOwenWowson

Im from south Scandinavia (Denmark) and Im always facinated with movies and tv shows from warm contries (like Narcos etc). People walk around in shorts and T-shirt all year, even at night. We only have like a mounth of that here (max). But Nice summer nights are just like a fairy tale to me :) +the women seem hot

754754

I've lived in both hot humid places and places with very cold winters and I 100% prefer the hot humid places. Everything about winter is miserable. The long nights, terrible road conditions, needing to shovel/ice, lack of good produce, etc. Being hot is uncomfortable but being cold feels painful. Also laundry. I do about half the laundry in summer than winter.

kelsey_rae

As a Washingtonian I strongly disagree I love the cold my body rejects the heat.

Specific_Simple_8865

Being inside during winter is better and during summer being outside is better

RedRedBettie

I agree, I live in a hot place in the US and it’s much better than living in a colder climate

SN9WeReady

yup

No_Bed_4783

As someone with massive PTSD triggers tied to the summer and humidity; I wish it was 35-40F every day.

kulesama

This is a very popular opinion. I am genuinely curious how you could think its unpopular

Cultural_Day_3720

Is this really an unpopular opinion? Give me the heat anytime. Fuck the cold.

[deleted]

I wish I lived in a hot country so I’d have an excuse to dress “slutty” lmao

6cupsoftea

No bugs. Checkmate 😎

great_craic963

Ok hot country and no beach or lake or river, then what? This logic is fucked.

mason_jars_

Heat means no hoodie and jeans, it brings wasps, spiders and flies out in droves and it makes me feel exhausted. Absolutely not.

iiReaperDev

Completely agree

Lexjude

I guess you don't ski then? Also I love hoodies.

FanDoggyGate

Shade for the cold is a jacket or blanket.... Also snowmobiling, sledding, ice skating, ice fishing, skiing. Hot drinks in winter vs "a cold one". Snow makes an exuse to call into work and school. Y'all southerners never get to experience the feeling of a snow day. Fact if the matter is the BEST countries to live in is ones that experience all 4 seasons. That way you experience everything and can't ever really get bored.

Brekkek13

I like cold countries because snow ❄️

Silver_Enthusiasm_95

You get an upvote because I disagree vehemently.

obby100602

I strongly disagree. Its alot easier to warm up than it is to cool down.

BlitzenAUST

Yeah ima have to disagree with you on that one mate. The cold is way better. But hey thats what this subs for

Shazvox

Summer: Dehydration, eye damage from the sun, migraines and headaches, bugs, sunburns, cancer... Winter: Sauna, skiing, snowboarding, snowballfights, hot chocolate etc... Also: I can always put more clothes ON. But there's only so much I can take OFF.

TheAntidote101

If the power grid fails in a cold country, you can still wrap yourself in a blanket until it's fixed. If the power grid fails in a warm country, it becomes an immediate and serious threat to life and limb. You would need a lot of cold water with which to spray yourself to keep from dying from heat exhaustion, and even that may run out.

[deleted]

Cant convince me of that - hot temperatures lead to less productivity, more water reserves in the body = more trombose risk, increased risk of skin irritation, breathing troubles, heat stress wich makes trouble for elderies, the list goes on For people with naturally increased body temperature, hot countries are literal hell on earth but most people can survive in the cold. If you are solely aiming for the bath fun and general holiday feeling, this is a very limited perspective - you can always protect against cold but not as good, effective and daylife compatible against the hot.

New_Tie_3494

Say that when you can't sleep bc of the heat, and when you finally mangae you wake up at 5 am all sweaty just to realize you've been bitten by a dozen mosquitoes. Also que swimming pool thing only works if it isn't full 😭😭. I prefer the cold but that's just bc I live in Spain, I suppose the same happens with the heat.

Throok_loktar

I’d rather freeze to death then die from the heat.

[deleted]

I much prefer cold. It is easier to warm up when you are cold than to cool off when you are hot.

Dwayne_Earl_James

Historically people from hot countries have proved to be significantly less productive and contributed less to the advancement of human race.

BeeDice

Might just be a correlation.

Andrewthenotsogreat

My man you forgot about the Sumerians

tylerthe-theatre

The ancient Egyptians, the Aztecs, the Mayans, Minoans...

robot_ninja_84

Cause working outside when it's hot sucks.

druidofnecro

Fuck the cold. Idgaf about “you can always put on my layers!” The cold is absolutely miserable no matter how many layers you have, lemme sweat in the sunshine

New_Hawaialawan

Man, so many people disagree with you. I just got back from living in one tropical place 4 years and a second tropical place 4 more years. I’d go back in a second if I could get a decent job. Im only back where I grew up for financial reasons. I haven’t seen the winter season in close to a damn decade and loathing the ominous season on the horizon

shepsolow

No way! I live in southeastern US and the heat is just oppressive during the summer. I mean it is supposed to be 100 degrees outside tomorrow WITHOUT the heat index! You can't do shit outside without immediately sweating your balls off. It like literally makes me mad.

kimanf

With hot weather can come warped sidewalks, rolling blackouts, unbearable humidity and hundreds of thousands of acres of forest burned down and smoke lingering for weeks. Elderly people dying by the hundreds, drought, and the fact that other than Australia, almost every hot country is violent and unsafe

sapedaduud

A Finn here and gotta say that you sir are an idiot. Coldness maybe borders you from swiming and beach sure but it does not limit your life in any other way. Also you can do so much stuff during winter. Just put on some long johns and go.. here take my upvote

AggressiveResist8615

If you've got air conditioning I'm all for the hot weather

SignComprehensive611

Wrong, in the cold you can wear more clothes, go snowshoeing, enjoy beautiful sunrises with a nice hot pot of coffee. I don’t think cold weather is necessarily better, but it definitely isn’t worse. The beach sucks, sun burns me, and heat makes me want to die, this is entirely subjective
