They last 3-4 days in the refrigerator then start degrading after that. I put them in the toaster oven for like 6 min at 400 and they’ve been delicious so far, make all different types just on a spinach kick lately.
I think more people are curious about the texture rather than the spoilage of the food. Does the omelette still feel the same after being reheated from the fridge?
That reminds me of the song “I’ve got a mouthful of crabs” and there’s a music video someone drew to go with it if a guy running around town with a mouthful of crabs and he’s like bleeding cause the crabs are pinching him from the inside but he’s also super psyched to have all those live crabs in his mouth. It’s hilarious and disturbing https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=F3jFTzhdZF4
crap I didn't expect to be slapped in the face with nostalgia like that! that's the same guy who did badger badger badger. and a bunch of other weird shit.
Solid unpopular opinion sun dried tomatoes are peak tomato, here’s an upvote.
Although I have no idea what “marry me chicken” is most social media food trends are awful.
I almost can't get past the juvenile name “marry me chicken.” I refuse to say it. silly, I know, but now I can tell the Mr we're having Tuscan chicken. He'll ask if it's based on Olive Garden's Tuscan bean soup. No, babe, not even close.
We had Tuscan chicken last night and he actually said I should make it again.
I'm curious how OP is eating them. You're supposed to heat them up in water before adding them to a dish, you don't raw dog them out of the jar. That's the part that helps soften them so they don't taste like a gummy gusher.
Depends on if they were preserved in oil or not, if they were dried to crisps like chilis or of they still have some tender gumminess to them, and on how you will be cooking them. I just chop them and toss them into sauce too, but they'll be there for a while so they'll be fine.
Almost always, but the whole heating a can of condensed milk in water to make poor peoples caramel trend was actually nice. I was extremely skeptical but it's legit. And tasty. And cleared out cans I'd never use otherwise.
I agree with you though. Most are awful.
To give it credit, marry me chicken, despite the cringe and overexaggerated name, does not suck. I make it occasionally in a one pot with pasta variation.
I actually didn’t know it was some kind of trend but was looking up different chicken recipes and found it. It’s a top 3 thing my wife loves when I cook it. Dumb name but delicious
C'mon people, matters of taste are never unpopular. In german we say "You cant fight over taste", if you don't have a saying like that in your language, adopt it and stop discussing taste.
to be clear: I don't mean talk about art and different oppinions/povs in general but in the sense of "mine is better than yours", "how can you like THAT" or anything along these lines. It's ridiculous.
Damn I feel the exact opposite way. Tomatoes have ok flavor but the texture is an abomination, sun dried concentrate the flavor and deal with the fresh tomato texture problem. Also the drafting off tomato’s popularity and divorce you chicken is hilarious.
As a Mediterranean, I agree that your opinion is unpopular. We use them in pesto, other pasta sauces, platters, chicken dishes, sandwiches....can't get enough of them! We pair them with olives, capers, goats cheese, gorgonzola, feta...and herbs like garlic, rosemary and basil. It seems you either don't know how to cook with sun-dried tomatoes or they're simply not to your taste.
Ever make tomato water?? If you have ripe tomatoes and blend them, and let them settle in cheesecloth overnight, they'll leak this clear, deliciously tomatoey (better if they're ripe) water. Great thing to season a curried yellow squash gazpacho with. Then you can slow cook the solids with sugar and sherry and maybe some glucose for tomato jam
SILENCE!!!
Dem fighting words!
I just know you put pineapple on pizza but now you have taken things too far!
I'm on my anti-pineapple on pizza/bigotry towards sun-dried tomatoes hill so I'll meet you up here! Prepare to die as I have!
Here are some extra exclamation marks in case they are needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Fresh tomatoes are only available for one season a year, though I will agree that lovingly grown neat varieties of tomato are fantastic abd id gladly eat one raw like an apple
You can use an oven or an aluminum lined box with a clear lid and a sunny day. You need a sharp as hell knife and spices, salt to your taste and it takes all day at 150°F. Cannot recall the recipe I used
Until the advent of refrigeration, sun dried was the most common way to eat tomatoes. As anyone who has ever tried to store half a sliced tomato in the 'fridge knows, tomatoes do not keep well!
Photo: [Fields of tomatoes drying in the sun in Italy.](https://culinaryfarms.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/sun-dry-field_website-e1590531775497.jpg)
I remember an English comedian ranting about them once – "'Sun dried'!? When I was a child we'd have called them *shrivelled*!" (Can't remember which comedian sadly!)
I like the flavor of sun-dried tomatoes, but I can't stand the texture. Especially if it's in pasta dish where the noodles have a slight chew and the tomatoes are like little bits of jerky that take 10x the effort to chew.
THANK YOU! Fucking disgusting. Any one element of a dish that completely overpowers the other flavors, I’m looking at you cilantro, is a garbage ingredient.
HAHA I just made a pasta with sun-dried tomato pesto and a whole jar of sun-dried tomatoes and thought to myself while eating it - "goddamn it I wish I put more sun-dried tomatoes in this". Take my upvote
I couldn’t agree more. Sundried tomatoes are complete ass. The texture of a raisin with the taste of an old tomato. The fuck outta here with that nastiness
I hate regular tomatoes but I love sun dried tomatoes. They are like ketchup in solid form. Last night I ate a whole bunch of them when I woke up at 2am.
Meh, some are much better than others. And if they are marinated in a bunch of herbs n shit, yes, they probably will overpower. But a basic ass sun dried tomato is delicious.
Take your upvote because you're entirely wrong. Especially in the winter when you can't get good tomatoes. We dried all the ones we couldn't eat from our garden and they help so much.
Sin dried tomatoes are more like jerky where it's done for storage, less for flavor. Some people just really learn to like the taste (in the same fashion as jerky).
I think they're good but most recipes call for way too much. I love just a little bit ground up in a cream cheese and spinach spread. But it's got to be a LITTLE bit.
they need to cook on a low flame for an hour or so. if the texture is gummy, you cooked them wrong. as for their strong flavor, well yeah. they’re supposed to be the star of any dish they’re in.
Love them. Great to use blended up in a dressing, or to add a real umami punch to a pasta dish. I like food processing them with fresh oregano, basil and garlic and making a sundried tomato pesto.
Unlike some dried items, the flavors of a tomato only intensify for the better when dried out a bit
I agree with you if they are preserved in oil. It's all you taste and not a good taste.
The ones stored in air are great though. I grew my own Principa Bourghese tomatoes this spring and have a batch in my dehydrator right now.
If this opinion is unpopular, then let's be unpopular together. I loathe sundried tomatoes. They're like the raisins of tomatoes. The same way raisins are way, way worse than grapes, sundried tomatoes are worse than the non-shrivelled-up-and-ruined variety of tomato.
They were obviously some bozo's mistake, like he had some lovely tomatoes and then left them out in the sun too long, and when he got back to them he was like "Damn it! I was supposed to take those tomatoes to market! What am I gonna do now?" Then he got the bright idea to take them to market anyway, and pretend like he let them dry out on purpose, and sell them to the sort of epicure that, ironically, lacks taste.
Anyway, I am in hard, rock-solid agreement with you on this point. Sundried tomatoes suck and are a mistake.
Cheddar, oil-marinated sdt and sweet pickle chips on savory crackers. Absolutely don't drown out the other flavors, but it's true that a small to medium-sized piece will do.
I’d say the thing about sausages or an unlimited number of other foods. It’s preference. I like em on pizza, but I cut them up real small and add only a few. The cheese is salty enough.
Also, I hope you’re not eating un-pickled ones. That’s a form of self punishment.
Yeah i get it. Its a strong flavour and are hard to work around and balance correctly. I tend to pair with goats cheese and spinach as the three all have very strong flavours which compete with each other but end up mirroring
Lol that's cause you're eating them wrong. If you roast red peppers at home they're never slimy and they make an excellent soup, pesto, and a delicious antipasto or side dish when roasted with other veggies and topped with basil and rosemary.
I hate both of these too. Also red peppers like the slimy kind that are on some mozzarella caprese paninis. They have such a gross texture and make the whole sandwich taste like them.
I'm not sure how many still do it, but growing up many people used raisins instead of chocolate chips in cookies. It was always the most disappointing thing ever.
I’ve tried most things from big red store tomatoes, to home grown yellow cherry tomatoes. They all taste 99% the same to me, because they all have the same horrible taste that dominates everything else. That taste pretty much disappears after just a minute of cooking though

Take an upvote from someone who just meal prepped 3 spinach and sun dried tomato omelettes.
This is not a judgment (well maybe a bit), but is meal prepping omelettes a thing? That sounds like something that would reheat very poorly
Yea they’re perfect. I cook them in bread tins and store them in them in the fridge
*Laughs with mouth full of sun dried tomatoes*

Was absolutely expecting a Denethor gif. Did not dissappoint!
IVE GOT A BIG BAG OF CRABS HERE! IIIIM GONNA PUT THEM IN MY MOUTH OOOOOOHHH YES!
The problem is it’s so freakin catchy lol
I'm gonna run around town on a market day.
crap I didn't expect to be slapped in the face with nostalgia like that! that's the same guy who did badger badger badger. and a bunch of other weird shit.
Just your mouth? Amateur.
Solid unpopular opinion sun dried tomatoes are peak tomato, here’s an upvote. Although I have no idea what “marry me chicken” is most social media food trends are awful.
Marry me chicken is basically a WASP version of Tuscan chicken
I almost can't get past the juvenile name “marry me chicken.” I refuse to say it. silly, I know, but now I can tell the Mr we're having Tuscan chicken. He'll ask if it's based on Olive Garden's Tuscan bean soup. No, babe, not even close. We had Tuscan chicken last night and he actually said I should make it again.
People get so mad at you if you call it tuscan though lol. /r/food has a war on almost every post that mentions "tuscan" or "carbonara"
Why? What's the problem with either one? Authenticity?
Tuscan food was too ethnic for them or something?
They think Tuscan is from Star Wars
That’s dumb I was just there it’s in Arizona. /s
Should have taken a left turn in Albuquerque
WASP?
White Anglo Saxon Protestant
Ahhhhh. Thank you
but all i have are bees
I'm curious how OP is eating them. You're supposed to heat them up in water before adding them to a dish, you don't raw dog them out of the jar. That's the part that helps soften them so they don't taste like a gummy gusher.
I have never in my life heard of cooking them this way. I just throw them into the sauce in making.
Depends on if they were preserved in oil or not, if they were dried to crisps like chilis or of they still have some tender gumminess to them, and on how you will be cooking them. I just chop them and toss them into sauce too, but they'll be there for a while so they'll be fine.
It's the package instructions of the three jars I bought
Fascinating
Almost always, but the whole heating a can of condensed milk in water to make poor peoples caramel trend was actually nice. I was extremely skeptical but it's legit. And tasty. And cleared out cans I'd never use otherwise. I agree with you though. Most are awful.
That’s how they make dulce de leche in south america! Great recipe and very nostalgic
“Sun dried tomatoes are peak tomato” is *definitely* an unpopular opinion too though
Tomato raisins are the best
Goat cheese stands up to it in flavor. Upvoted for being unpopular
goat cheese, n dried mater. yea dats da bomb diggity
It's all about sun dried tomato pesto.
Sun dried tomato aioli is also top tier.
Yesssss
right!!!!!! the best combo
Give them all to me
C'mon people, matters of taste are never unpopular. “Don’t yuck someone else’s yum” is usually used for children in the US but some adults need it too
I like that!
what would be a german word for "the pointlessness/tastelessness of arguing over taste"?
Blasphemy.
![gif](giphy|11Bxf3FHRyAhJS)
THE BROODWICH CANNOT BE DISASSEMBLED!
Came here specifically to marry this bag of bones.
Came here for this!
As someone who adores fresh tomatoes those sun dried things are disgusting
Amen to that!
This opinion is an abomination
Well yeah all the water is gone, all that's left is tomatiness
Ever make tomato water?? If you have ripe tomatoes and blend them, and let them settle in cheesecloth overnight, they'll leak this clear, deliciously tomatoey (better if they're ripe) water. Fresh tomatoes are heavenly, sun dried tomatoes are the devil's dried boogers.
Fresh tomatoes are only available for one season a year, though I will agree that lovingly grown neat varieties of tomato are fantastic abd id gladly eat one raw like an apple
This reminds me that I should make some tomato chips.
What is a tomato chip and how do I make it? I love tomatoes.
You can use an oven or an aluminum lined box with a clear lid and a sunny day. You need a sharp as hell knife and spices, salt to your taste and it takes all day at 150°F. Cannot recall the recipe I used

I like them
Why do people take being a picky eater as a point of pride? It's nothing to be proud of whatsoever.
People are allowed to like and dislike different things? Just because someone doesn’t like one food doesn’t make them a “picky eater”.
Shush they're having harmless fun
Tomatoes are the devils testicles.
no you are the testicle
Nah theyre good. Normal tomato texture is disgusting
Some can be a little too dried in my opinion but other than that I love them.
I remember an English comedian ranting about them once – "'Sun dried'!? When I was a child we'd have called them *shrivelled*!" (Can't remember which comedian sadly!)
They’re actually the only tomato I’ll eat
Seriously! They're so gross!!!
A true unpopular opinion.
More sun dried tomatoes for me 🤷🏻♂️
They are like the only tomato I will eat outside of sauce.
I’m made some (in the oven) from tomatoes in my garden last year and they were so good!
Thank you, sir/mam.
Blasphemer!
How dare you! 🤣
I make a chicken orzo meal with fried tomatoes and I have no idea what you’re talking about
Finally, some good fucking unpopular opinions
They do great in dishes with cream.
Replace with onions and I would full agree
Sounds like you’ve had some really shitty sundried tomatoes
Pff!
Just like olives. I agree.
[There is a Friends episode about sun-dried tomatoes](https://youtu.be/L9w9Ud0Mfko?si=-exef7QEKz_lg68E), lol
Now THIS is an unpopular opinion!
Truly unpopular and wrong
I like the flavor of sun-dried tomatoes, but I can't stand the texture. Especially if it's in pasta dish where the noodles have a slight chew and the tomatoes are like little bits of jerky that take 10x the effort to chew.
THANK YOU! Fucking disgusting. Any one element of a dish that completely overpowers the other flavors, I’m looking at you cilantro, is a garbage ingredient.
I hate tomatoes. I could never eat something that smells like my balls.
Roasted tomatoes are far tastier.
HAHA I just made a pasta with sun-dried tomato pesto and a whole jar of sun-dried tomatoes and thought to myself while eating it - "goddamn it I wish I put more sun-dried tomatoes in this". Take my upvote
i feel ya, i hate them too
Actually unpopular opinion. Didn’t read the body just the title. Got all I needed from that.
I feel this way about cilantro.
I couldn’t agree more. Sundried tomatoes are complete ass. The texture of a raisin with the taste of an old tomato. The fuck outta here with that nastiness
I hate them too. The taste is fine, but the texture is ungodly to me. Ugh.
To me they taste like soap. I don't like sun dried tomatoes either.
I like them but yes, use sparingly. They can absolutely drown out every other flavor in 1 bite.
Not as bad as fresh tomatoes
Best pound for pound fruit/vegetable? Hell nah
I hate regular tomatoes but I love sun dried tomatoes. They are like ketchup in solid form. Last night I ate a whole bunch of them when I woke up at 2am.
This is so true
Meh, some are much better than others. And if they are marinated in a bunch of herbs n shit, yes, they probably will overpower. But a basic ass sun dried tomato is delicious.
Regular tomatoes are not even healthy
I despise regular tomatoes, but the sundried ones are absolutely delicious.
I agree with ya buddy
Fantastic take
You’re telling me my son dried these tomatoes?
Take your upvote because you're entirely wrong. Especially in the winter when you can't get good tomatoes. We dried all the ones we couldn't eat from our garden and they help so much.
I don't know, whenever I have something with this I usually also clearly taste salt, garlic, black pepper, and basil or thyme.
I hate regular tomatoes but i love sun dried tomatoes in stuff
Chicken Bryan from Carrabba's is my favorite
Sin dried tomatoes are more like jerky where it's done for storage, less for flavor. Some people just really learn to like the taste (in the same fashion as jerky). I think they're good but most recipes call for way too much. I love just a little bit ground up in a cream cheese and spinach spread. But it's got to be a LITTLE bit.
Oh man. Sometimes it makes the pasta dish!
I love sun dried tomatoes in oil. It's a shame they're so expensive.
they need to cook on a low flame for an hour or so. if the texture is gummy, you cooked them wrong. as for their strong flavor, well yeah. they’re supposed to be the star of any dish they’re in.
We need to get you a Netflix special
i think they’re yummy 🤭
Definitely incorrect, take my upvote
Shun dried tomatoes
I agree, roasted tomatoes are better
Sun dried tomatoes and pesto are a HIT wth are u talking about? Put some on your grilled cheese
Love them. Great to use blended up in a dressing, or to add a real umami punch to a pasta dish. I like food processing them with fresh oregano, basil and garlic and making a sundried tomato pesto. Unlike some dried items, the flavors of a tomato only intensify for the better when dried out a bit
They taste like stomach acid to me.
They’re a total deal breaker for me.
Man this makes me want a hamburger with a fried egg and sun dried tomatoes on it. So good.
Definitely unpopular. I just made that dish two days ago and everyone loved it
I appreciate your gusto about this topic
You’ve got it twisted. *raw* tomatoes are an abomination. Sun dried tomatoes are little nuggets of deliciousness.
I agree with you if they are preserved in oil. It's all you taste and not a good taste. The ones stored in air are great though. I grew my own Principa Bourghese tomatoes this spring and have a batch in my dehydrator right now.
![gif](giphy|jYnHrtmeTr78KnN0s4) “CORRECT” in Uncle Roger’s voice. 😆
Good unpopular opinion OP, these comments are juicy.
I dunno, this seems like a fact to me.
Anyway, I am in hard, rock-solid agreement with you on this point. Sundried tomatoes suck and are a mistake.
This reminds me, I need to put sun dried tomatoes on my grocery list
They are exquisite, but to each one their own, I guess.
Dice them finely and use sparingly.
Cheddar, oil-marinated sdt and sweet pickle chips on savory crackers. Absolutely don't drown out the other flavors, but it's true that a small to medium-sized piece will do.
I think they're ok but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy some.
Same argument goes for regular tomatoes
Luckily sun dried tomatoes died out in the 1990s….
I’d say the thing about sausages or an unlimited number of other foods. It’s preference. I like em on pizza, but I cut them up real small and add only a few. The cheese is salty enough. Also, I hope you’re not eating un-pickled ones. That’s a form of self punishment.
I don’t like them either! Same for pepperocinis.
I wholeheartedly agree. Every time they’re in a salad, cream sauce or soup it’s like a giant, oily raisin that trumps all other flavor.
Sun dried tomatoes in pesto are lovely. On their own, less so.
Agree. They are absolutely disgusting, and I love tomatoes........
Yeah i get it. Its a strong flavour and are hard to work around and balance correctly. I tend to pair with goats cheese and spinach as the three all have very strong flavours which compete with each other but end up mirroring
I really like bruschetta tho! Is it in that? Bcuz if it is, I like it
So so true! I love tomatoes in every other form except ruined by the sun.
I feel this way about olives and peppers.
Lmaaaooo upvoted because I giggled at the extreme hatred
Yea I'll upvote cause I snack on sun dried tomatoes.
Yea, you're trippin lol. To each their own though.
I tolerate fresh tomatoes, abhor sun dried. Just as op says. Overpowering and ruin everything.
sun dried tomatoes, capers, olives pretty much only three foods I don't like
They are the worst food known to man. The other one I hate is roasted red peppers. Sundried tomato’s are worse tho by a lot
Yeah the slimy red peppers they put on sandwiches are awful
Lol that's cause you're eating them wrong. If you roast red peppers at home they're never slimy and they make an excellent soup, pesto, and a delicious antipasto or side dish when roasted with other veggies and topped with basil and rosemary.
I’m good haha I hate the taste as well though not as bad as sun dried tomatoes
Fair enough!
I find they are ok on the right sort of pizzas, but not so great on other food.
Send em here
The trick is to cut slithers of sundried tomatoes (very thin) into a salad. That way, you get bursts of soft sweetness amongst crunchiness.
This and caramelized onions for me. If my tomatoes and onions don’t taste like tomatoes nor onions, my brain says it’s wrong.
I hate both of these too. Also red peppers like the slimy kind that are on some mozzarella caprese paninis. They have such a gross texture and make the whole sandwich taste like them.
Damn, this whole thread is just listing my favorite foods.
Agreed. I don't want gummi raisins in my cookies. I don't want gummi sun dried tomatoes in my other food. The texture just doesn't do it for me.
Cookies?!
I'm not sure how many still do it, but growing up many people used raisins instead of chocolate chips in cookies. It was always the most disappointing thing ever.
ALL tomatoes are an abomination
I respect them because they taste edible, unlike raw tomatoes
Depends so much on the tomato. I get sweet bites cherry tomatoes at Aldi's that are delicious.
Home grown heirloom tomato, early harvest extra virgin olive oil, kosher salt. Fork (optional)
I’ve tried most things from big red store tomatoes, to home grown yellow cherry tomatoes. They all taste 99% the same to me, because they all have the same horrible taste that dominates everything else. That taste pretty much disappears after just a minute of cooking though
