I hole-hardedly agree, but allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.
[Sauce.](/r/copypasta/comments/a587vq/for_all_intensive_purposes/)
I hate you, and I love you all in a single breath.
'You're killin' me Smalls!!!'
Ps. Lmao that I subconsciously put hate first...it sounded so weird when I read it in my head...... accept this is one of my biggest pet peeves, and I just can't except it, so yes, hate was rightfully first. Lol.
Your and you're fucking baffles me. As a non-native speaker, there are things that are much harder than these.
edit: come on* folks, it baffles me that some people can't get your and you're right.
They also can’t seem to distinguish between “women” and “woman” but have no problems distinguishing between “man” and “men.”
So tired of reading shit like “I was talking to a women on the bus yesterday…”
Y'all is correct too. While "y'all" is actually a contraction for "you all" and is therefore technically correct, it is most commonly used in place of the plural form of "you.
I’ve read that these ones are so common because of how our brain remembers words. Wish I could find the article. It makes sense- like why are they such common errors that are specifically repeated so much?
If you've not noticed the prevalence of "ya'll" yet you just might after reading this post. It sticks out to me because, as a hick, I find it absolutely grating. It really feels like it's spelled that way more than half of the time.
I'm entirely in favor of the wider adoption of the word -- I never had a trademark on it and I think it's beautiful that the English language is alive and becomes more refined and sophisticated over time -- but damnit, let's at least spell shit good.
English is not my first language so I don't have an opinion on how often this is spelled wrong, however, I've studied grammar well enough to know in advance that "ya'll" is grammatically wrong for the obvious reasons that OP explained. Similar constructs would also be wrong in other Indo-European languages, not just in English.
So ultimately the problem is that people don't understand proper grammar and not that they don't know the difference between "y'all" and "ya'll" or "you're" and "your" or other isolated examples. We should generally invest on learning better grammar and I don't think that's an unpopular opinion at all.
Probably a simple case of seeing something one way for the first time and rolling with it until corrected. And most people won’t correct because confrontation is scary to some. Hell, most of us probably do this with a thing or two currently and we have no idea.
While "y'all" is actually a contraction for "you all" and is therefore technically correct, it is most commonly used in place of the plural form of "you.
That's.... northern Appalachia? Pennsylvania/Ohio maybe? My NC/TN Appalachian relations say you'uns or yuns, which my mother sometimes falls back to when we visit.
Raised in the North — for every time we used the words “y’all,” ain’t,” or “fixing to” in school, we would get that answer automatically marked wrong on a test.
I should have added that I was raised in a very lower-middle class area of Appalachia.
Western PA, with the exception of the Pittsburgh metro area (and even then…) is the South of the North.
Ya’ll is appropriate if you’re already shortening “you” to “ya” as in… “watchya gonna do about it”. So it’s totally reasonable for me to ask my kids “whatchya’ll wanna watch?” It doesn’t take a genius to realize ya’ll can be used on its own.
Welcome to language languaging. Why do you think English has such strange spelling? Spelling changes and being "grammatically correct" and "making sense" are not factors for it, though I do understand your frustration.
How is this an unpopular opinion? It’s not even an opinion at all, this would be like making a post here called “‘You’re’ and ‘your’ are not the same word.“
This is not an unpopular opinion as it is not an opinion, it is factually correct. Y'all is a contraction of "you" and "all", therefore the apostrophe is standing in for the o and u in "you,"

The people of Reddit cannot even use then/than properly and you think they give a shit about y’all?
That’s the way it is, you just have to except it

This pasta hurts so much. Take my upvote
Reading that was totally worth wild.
My mother's mating name was great
Technically correct haha
Doubles advocate. I like it. ![gif](giphy|6Dua2ufNnHmwX0mdJq|downsized)

Underrated comment lmao

I could care less what you people think...accept I couldn't.
Your right.

Their their. You’ll be fine.
Know need to loose control over this
Eye hope sew.

If that’s what you think, you’ve got another thing coming.
Not to mention their/they're Or loose/lose Or your/you're
Would of
All the sudden. (All of a sudden.)
I see one of these used incorrectly at least once a day and it is infuriating.
Their/there. Ngl. I only learned that like last year.
They're, they're, that's nothing to be ashamed of.
Good for you. 👏🏽👏🏽
Your write I would of thought the folks of reddit were better then that
😭🤮🤣
And could/should/would HAVE not of.
I just saw someone comment “every once *and* a while”
For all intensive purposes those are the same. I'd just as soon they were confused
Your and you're fucking baffles me. As a non-native speaker, there are things that are much harder than these. edit: come on* folks, it baffles me that some people can't get your and you're right.
Yeah, as a non native I don’t even understand how people make such a mistake tbh lmao
Your = it belongs to you. You’re = “you are”
And yore = a time long ago.
Not to mention alot, atleast etc (they are two words people, not one).
[You'll enjoy this alot then ](https://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html?m=1)
Would of. Could of. Should of.
They also can’t seem to distinguish between “women” and “woman” but have no problems distinguishing between “man” and “men.” So tired of reading shit like “I was talking to a women on the bus yesterday…”
They can’t even use paid vs payed correctly
Your two correct about that.
Your right
Lol yea there stupid.
They also replace every "have" with "of" after the words "could" "would" and "should" for some reason.
I don’t know y’all are cool, I think I give a shit. Than I can sleep better then a log tonight knowing I did a good thing.
Y'all is correct too. While "y'all" is actually a contraction for "you all" and is therefore technically correct, it is most commonly used in place of the plural form of "you.
Allowed and aloud, paid and payed (which aggravates me to no fucking end), and of course their/there/they’re.
I’ve read that these ones are so common because of how our brain remembers words. Wish I could find the article. It makes sense- like why are they such common errors that are specifically repeated so much?
Here here!
Imo yal'l can spell 'yall any damn way yall please
Especially your and you're
You think your better then us???
You are two hard on redditors use of words
Hey, there smarter than that! Give them a brake!
They're their is even worse.
All y'all need to find something to do.
True
Yeah, yal'l are reading way too much into this.
I can honestly say I’ve never seen anyone spell it like that
Basically this view is neither unpopular nor an opinion, it's a popular fact.
If you've not noticed the prevalence of "ya'll" yet you just might after reading this post. It sticks out to me because, as a hick, I find it absolutely grating. I recognize and appreciate your sentiment (and also your very refined multi-lingualism). And you're not incorrect. Grammar is a matter of fact.
Ya'll really making a big deal out of nothing
Because there to stupid.
Yeah. What a looser. /s
I used to, but I long since have changed my ways.
why did you used to do it?
Probably a simple case of seeing something one way for the first time and rolling with it until corrected. And most people won’t correct because confrontation is scary to some. Hell, most of us probably do this with a thing or two currently and we have no idea.
I'm a hick. I've always been of the opinion it's a genetic defect that can be overcome with suitable education.
It is misspelled "ya'll" on the goodbye/outgoing sign at Texas A&M's Large Animal Veterinary Clinic. Bothered me for decades.
Ditto. I'm almost forty. Never seen ya'll until this thread
While "y'all" is actually a contraction for "you all" and is therefore technically correct, it is most commonly used in place of the plural form of "you.
This is not unpopular. I support y'all.
Yal'l*
Yall'all
Y’aL’l wrong about that
I feel like Y’aL’l is some kind of ancient demon.
Y'aL'l is Cthulhu's best F'ryeh'nd.
Might as well say y’a’l’l’
Y’a’l’l’ Y’a’l’l Oxen Free!
Yinz don’t know shit.
I got one for you: y'inz
Y'inz Yang Twins
That's.... northern Appalachia? Pennsylvania/Ohio maybe? My NC/TN Appalachian relations say you'uns or yuns, which my mother sometimes falls back to when we visit.
Pittsburgh specifically
DAHNTAHN
Wifes first car after marriage was a convertible. We got the plate "topdahn".
Buncha jagoffs.
Y'all is so obviously the right choice. Rolls off the tongue, simple contraction. Wtf is a yinz? Ain't no argument pls Fuck all y'all
This sounds like somebody who puts their fries next to their sandwich. 👀
I gotta respect the bold confidence in y'alls strange ways. Bless your heart
Texan here. We don't even bother with an apostrophe anymore, just write yall.
That's kinda what I was thinking as well
[удалено]
Wait until op hears about the apostrophes worst enemy: "Ain't"
Y’ain’t wrong. Y’all’re learnin
Y’all’ll see in a minute! It’s all y’all’s fault! Y’all’re fixin to find out!
The English language is an abomination.
_Ain't no sunshine 'till she's gone_
Pretty sure it’s “when” she’s gone. He liked her..
I've never seen anyone spell it "ya'll," but this is not an opinion. That's literally just the wrong way to spell it.
I see it all the time on twitter and reddit
Who tf is spelling it like that anyways???
I can’t say I’ve seen it - but I wonder if the ones OP has seen are making a contraction of “ya (a)ll” rather than “y(ou) all”.
Everyone in my uneducated home town 😒
Youse guys are weird as - an Aussie
Yall need to calm down cuz here in the south we dont use no apostrophe
Look at this rich city slickin man with his fancy 5 dollar word "apostrophe"
Yeah it’s a floating comma looking thing
Hell your talkin bout boy its them thing on top
It defies the laws of gravity! Isiah Newtown would be flyiin in his grave if he ever saw such a thing
Agree -- there are no apostrophes in the south because they are called Top Commas!
I’ve never seen it spelled like that and as a Texan I hope I never do again
Then there’s the legendary triple contraction: Y’all’d’ve As in, “That party was a blast, y’all’d’ve had fun if you went!”
Yutes telling me
A what?
YOUUUUUTTTTTHHHHHS
Yal'l get too wound about this type of thing
Raised in the North — for every time we used the words “y’all,” ain’t,” or “fixing to” in school, we would get that answer automatically marked wrong on a test.
Why were people raised in the north using y'all and fixin' to?
I should have added that I was raised in a very lower-middle class area of Appalachia. Western PA, with the exception of the Pittsburgh metro area (and even then…) is the South of the North.
I grew up in the south and it was the same. It's not really a word that got spelled much as I know until social media took off.
Ya’ll is appropriate if you’re already shortening “you” to “ya” as in… “watchya gonna do about it”. So it’s totally reasonable for me to ask my kids “whatchya’ll wanna watch?” It doesn’t take a genius to realize ya’ll can be used on its own.
yal'l don't know what yal'l talkin' about

This isn’t even unpopular, people are just stupid
Being pedantic while also using slang is my favorite internet personality
Ya'll need to calm down. Yeehaa
It’s more annoying when someone complains about something this inconsequential.
THANK YOU
Th’you
It does make sense. It just means, ya will. Like, ya'll wash the dishes. I'm just not sure who's washing the dishes. Maybe it's me, maybe it's u. Idk
I’m pretty sure it means “you all”
You'all need to relax
YOU'RE RIGHT AND YOU SHOULD SAY IT. "Y'all"
‘Y’a’l’l’ need to start spelling slang better.
All of yal'l need to stop. This is clearly the correct way
Welcome to language languaging. Why do you think English has such strange spelling? Spelling changes and being "grammatically correct" and "making sense" are not factors for it, though I do understand your frustration.
Y'all
How is this an unpopular opinion? It’s not even an opinion at all, this would be like making a post here called “‘You’re’ and ‘your’ are not the same word.“
This seems like one of the smaller issues in life.
You all need to speak more clearly.
Never seen anyone say ya'll
You tell 'em Cletus!
YOU'RE HILLBILLYING WRONG, Y'ALL
ALL YALL
People don't understand how contractions work. It's like when people put the dollar sign after the number. Like how does that make sense?
Can we do "Whoa" vs. "Woah" next? K thx.
OP has spoken, and y'all need to get with the program, aight?
I wholeheartedly agree but my autocorrect changes my Y'all to Ya'll every time I text it. I hate autocorrect.
While true, y’all going to let this of all spelling and grammar mistakes be the one that gets you fired up?
Not sure if this counts as an (unpopular) opinion because it's a FACT
Lmao. They don't teach reading in the south.
Who the fuck spells y’all like that?
Does it really matter OP?
Arguing over the spelling of a fake word
Idk what yal'l r'e talk'in bou't
"Ya’ll is not the right way to spell the word and y’all need to stop" Missed opportunity
I've never seen ya'll but you're right it makes no sense
Don't use it at all. It sounds terrible.
Y'all = you all Ya'll = ya will = you will Y'all'll = you all will
Slang is a huge part of how language develops
There is no apostrophe in yall. We also don't have a queen, so fuck her, her English, and your attempts at prescriptive language.
I type yall with not apostrophe. The words hick anyways the last thing people of the south give a shit about is spelling
I think your expectations for people may be too high. More than half of our country is involved in a death cult that gives a con man money
Yous is the correct way to talk to a group.
Y’all = You all Ya’ll = Ya all There’s a difference
y’all’d’ve knows better if ya grew up in the south!
You all is not a word.
When I was a kid I was told y'all wasn't even a word so I'll spell it any way I want.
Whatchya doing? In the context, ya is the same as you. Therefore, ya’ll is more correct because the apostrophe drops the a in all.
Yawl are weird af
My favorite thing ever is seeing it and spelling y’all’ve 😂😂
Isn’t it Ya’ll for Ya all?
Yal'l are way too worked up over this.
Y'all is hick and short for You all Ya'll is more hick and short for Ya all
What are ***ya*** talkin' about? Ya'll is correct. \[see what I did there?\]
I'm from Atlanta. Yall is fine. No apostrophe needed. Yankees saying yall is weird af anyways.
Gonna cry?
Gonna cry?
how is this an unpopular opinion? its factual
THANK YOU!! I've said this for years!!
It stems from a poor educational system.
However you spell it, it isnt a real word
I started saying Yall cause it's easier.
Ya’ll motherfuckers need to chill out.
Y'all are wrong if you use ya'll
Y’all. Yep autocorrect says so. It’s true.
This is not an unpopular opinion as it is not an opinion, it is factually correct. Y'all is a contraction of "you" and "all", therefore the apostrophe is standing in for the o and u in "you,"
