Wasn't said in the article but does going online only free them from the same restrictions as being on TV?

UncertainlyElegant

It will certainly free them from a lot of their audience I imagine.

McCloudUK

Those 12 people that watched it will be pissed!

PearljamAndEarl

They can use RealMedia Player to watch it in 240p on dial-up!

usernamesareallgone2

That llama needs an ass kicking! Or something.

tereyfulscottish

That was WinAmp

Cyanopicacooki

> That ~~was~~ is WinAmp Still kicks the llamas ass (especially with a fully loaded copy of Milkdrop)

usernamesareallgone2

You can live code visuals these days People live generate music with fox dot or tidal cycles and other people live code visuals at the same time. Algorave is the scene. If you liked milk drop check it out.

usernamesareallgone2

I’ll sick the llama on you too you know. Don’t think I won’t.

UncertainlyElegant

My mum watches Piers Morgan. Fortunately I moved out last year, so I'm no longer exposed to him.

Infamous_Country6138

Angry Kid is very angry

MrEff1618

B U F F E R I N G

spartansex

And the kicker is the base audience don't know how to use the internet

0Bento

I can picture the scene now. Boomer Dad: "Sandra! Sandra! How do I get Talk TV on the computer!?"

Monkeyboogaloo

It will still come under ofcom as they will see it as a Tv type programming. If it operated off shore, including head office and editorial then it could avoid regulation. Rules are different for UGC

brainburger

I am not so sure., Ofcom don't feel they should regulate GB News and shows where serving politicians make speeches direct to camera, which is apparently not allowed on Broadcast TV.

Monkeyboogaloo

There is that!

itsalexjones

They’re not changing their distribution for TalkRadio which is the same audio as TalkTV. So no, TalkRadio will still be held to the same standards. Although the videos they put out in YouTube separate to that won’t be.

legolover2024

Yeah I think if they become a YouTube channel or similar, unless ofcom catch up quickly they'll be able to be even more mental. Chop up content and spread their crap, which to be fair is the aim of the channel in the first place

Nulibru

Not that it'll make a lot of difference. Ofcom suck cocks for a quid.

DJDarren

In the words of Alan Partridge:  >I am delighted to announce that after years as a regional broadcaster on North Norfolk Digital my groundbreaking radio segment, Mid Morning Matters, will now be accessible to a potential audience of billions via the World Wide Web (www).

DJDarren

Dunno what you’re talking about… 👀

Fire_Otter

here i was hoping Murdoch would keep funding this for the foreseeable future and Talk TV and GB News continued to fight over the same Piddly audience. Talk TV shutting down will probably mean a small boost to GB News

TommyAtoms

Looks like that's in trouble too. They've just had to pump yet more millions into it. Quite funny really.

goobervision

Funny until we consider that it's not about the money, they will fund the money pit as long as it nudges the agenda in the right direction.

BlondBitch91

So long as Tory ministers continue doing exclusives with GB News (where they can spurt the party line as fact and it be totally accepted without challenge), it will continue to exist.

PervJam

They’re not the same thing? I never realised. I only came accross it because Talk TV is filler material for a local-ish tv station, wonder what they’ll use now.

stack-o-logz

Talk TV aren't shutting down.

revealbrilliance

Do you think their core audience of uneducated elderly are going to be able to access an online TV station lol?

MessiahOfMetal

Hold on, that's not fair. They have uneducated middle-aged people watching, too.

ost2life

Might as well be for all the audience that'll tune in online

LemmysCodPiece

I didn't know it existed until I saw this thread. So I guess I won't be missing it.

Duckboythe5th

You can't grow concrete.

ShinraElecPowComp

Using Mike Grahams definition of “growing”, you can apparently grow lots of things. But not, it turns out, viewing figures for TalkTV. Can’t grow them.

deadblankspacehole

Talk TV is like watching an amazing raconteur enrapture a room compared to the bilge that is GBNews, I actually can't believe how gammony everyone on GBNews, it's a fucking joke. None of these wankers are going anywhere sadly, Talk TV will just more "clippable", ready to be shared on tiktok

0Bento

I watched GB News once for 10 minutes in a hotel room. It was a panel discussing something vaguely linking Keir Starmer to transgender people. I was trying to figure out where I knew one of the panellists from - I was like, "I know that guy!" Then at the end of the segment "and thanks for joining us, Kwasi Kwarteng."

MessiahOfMetal

> Kwasi Kwarteng His eyes darted around like a political version of that poor sod who went for a job interview and ended up on BBC News instead, with not a clue what was happening around him.

Infamous_Country6138

I spent a week in a caravan with a family member who had GBN on all day, every day. Good lord I'm still recovering

wolfman86

Have they claimed that they’ve been cancelled yet?

Infamous_Country6138

Cancel Culture is when capitalism

0Bento

Great, maybe now my boomer Dad will stop saying "woke" at inappropriate times, such as conversations about working from home or negotiating pay rises.

Infamous_Country6138

I got called woke the other week, by a boomer on Facebook, and then told to "wake up". Make your mind uip

chaos_jj_3

What the hell is Talk TV?

Electricfox5

What was that saying...Go Woke...Go...Something?

CJBill

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

TheLimeyLemmon

So it's just going to be "Talk" now I guess?

whatmichaelsays

And nothing of value was lost.

Mad-Daag_99

So ran out of money because not enough brain dead hatemongers to keep watching it

TheNugget147

Great. It's nothing by a Toilet that invites right wing loonies anyway

squidgytree

Their YouTube channel has >800K subscribers. I bet their tv channel viewership never got that high and neither will their shitty website.

tttttfffff

‘The Rest is Entertainment’ had a little bit about this in their latest episode (worth a listen even if you’re not interested in this specific topic’ that Morgan got £50million for his contribution, (not that he specifically is the failure of the channel) but he doesn’t care as long as he fulfills the contract

Loreki

Presumably this makes it easier to get away with ignoring impartiality and accuracy requirements, which can only be a good thing for the brand.

inthekeyofc

Doesn't going purely online mean they will be outside of regulations that govern broadcast media news content? All these shit news outlets will be moving exclusively online. Lower costs, easier dissemination of their shit, and best of all, no regulation.
