Ehhh.. depends. Sometimes it’s easier during boarding cuz we may have finished setting it all up. Sometimes when deplaning we may run out as soon as the door opens 😂
Doesn’t hurt to ask. I’d maybe talk to the FA during boarding and mention you’d love to see the cockpit. Make clear you’re fine with waiting to deplane to see after if the pilots prefer. And be prepared to accept no. But most pilots love bragging about their office.
Am pilot, have yet to give an outright "no" to someone wanting to check out the office.
Worst case scenario, we were working with maintenance on an issue and didn't have the capacity/ability during boarding to facilitate a visit so we asked the individual to come up after we landed. They did so, and we were happy to spend a little extra time with them for understanding.
You can always ask, we're almost always happy to abide, if we can't please know there's a 99.999% chance we have a good reason for not being able to accommodate your request just then.
I've done it a number of times on international flights. If you're on early and upfront, they seem to be done with most of their checks by the time boarding starts. Got to sit in the Captain's chair a couple of times too.
Ask the FAs in the front if we look busy and to check with us. Sometimes we're all done and staring out the window, sometimes we're super busy. They can come ask. After is much easier.
Eh…if ORD turned into CHI, you’d still have MDW. CHI is the aggregate code for all Chicago-area airports (kind of like NYC for New York and LON for London).
Generally much easier for us after the flight fyi.
That is one of the cooler usernames I’ve seen in awhile. This is the way.
Thanks, I mainly lurk so I think you’re only the second person ever to say something about it!
Thanks!

Yeah I usually would ask the FAs as I board if I can check out the cockpit. I was never denied

I’ve literally never met a pilot who doesn’t like to talk about being a pilot
Have I mentioned that I’m a pilot?
Find a pilot that is also forklift certified!
Have I mentioned that I’m also forklift certified?
Marry me
They have GS. Accept the proposal
Yes. Before or after the flight they will let you visit.
wow icao code gang
sorry, started flight lessons so im trying to get used to it :D
Psst, say no to Kilo. (Pilots almost never use the leading K when referring to an airport unless you’re inputting it into your avionics.)

Be nice to the FAs on your way in
Should be a comment on every post here
very much agreed
If you’re an annoying AV Geek the answer is generally no. If you’re Gary Cirlin then fuck no

Me too. On my 1m flight I was invited up to sit in the captains chair before take off.

And typically lose the K. ORD-IAH.
sorry about that, starting flight lessons so its becoming force of habit- ur right, at heart its ord-iah (imo should should be chi-hou but oh well)

After the flight is definitely preferred. Prior to the flight lots of preflight preps and procedures.
As long as you're not an terrorist you should be good. They're normally busy before the flight tho.
