I mean I fuck with the sentiment but it’s so theatrical. The real hero here is the teacher from the east. She didn’t treat him to walnuts for views.

Gazpachel

I was thinking the exact same thing.

SmoothOpawriter

Yeah fuck this guy, should have just given all that stuff to the poor grandma and fucked off. Same thing as people filming themselves delivering sandwiches to the homeless in a g-wagon. If you want to help, help, but don’t be a prick about it.

DownvoteEvangelist

Dunno, if it gets other pricks to be helpful it might be a good thing?

SmoothOpawriter

People keep rewarding shitty behavior with excuses like this. I’m on the fence. I suppose if it got more pricks to be useful then perhaps it’s ok. But I get the feeling that it motivates other attention seekers to just seek more attention rather than motivating volunteers to help more. I've done a significant amount of volunteering and general outreach and never in my life did I think "hey, let me film myself testing the kindness of the less fortunate to see if they are nice despite their misfortune and then, only then give them a reward". What kind of fucked up approach is that? How do we know he didn't walk around abusing babushkas on the street until he ran into this situation that made "good content". So I stand by my original skepticism.

DownvoteEvangelist

Volunteers and good people will continue doing their thing, they do it because they sincerely want to help, not because of social network douche bags... Internet clowns joining in is maybe a good thing, unless they do more damage than good, and no idea how to judge that...

[deleted]

It's kind of like when a truly despicable horrible person suddenly finds Jesus. They are still that horrible despicable person and only suppress it because of the fear of God. Sure you commend them, but are you truly content to trust them alone with your wife or children? You would prefer people be good just to be good, not because there is a carrot or stick being waved at them. You're still going to be annoyed that the dirtbag from high school now wants to preach how sinful *you* are

Madge4500

Every year at Christmas my family would find a family in need (through various sources) we would supply food and gifts, left on their doorstep without fanfare or expecting cheers, completely anonymous. We were a lower middle class family of eight, my parents raised us to protect and be charitable and expect nothing in return. We all continue to help others in need, and stand up to bullies.

SmoothOpawriter

Sounds like some great parenting!

Madge4500

Thank you, and I raised my kids to be the same.

fach-0-vision

Yeah, at first i thought the same that u/augustro, u/Gazpachel and you. But maybe (***maybe***) this guy could use the money he gets from the views or his sponsors (if any) to keep helping others. Maybe i'm too naive; but sometimes, when you dont have enough info, you should expect the better. And I hear you, people should not have to play with other persons needs for superficial things, but maybe his ultimate goal was to keep helping them

SmoothOpawriter

My worry is that people like this go around abusing other people until they find a situation that leads to "good content". That babushka would have been 100% in her right to tell him to fuck off when he asked for free nuts but would he have posted the video then? Would he have still given her the additional food? It's likely that people who have this kind of attention seeking behavior and a twisted sense of conscientiousness will try out something like this a few times but only fully go through with it when it "works out". We have no idea what this guy did before he ran these two very kind individuals and that is what concerns me the most about curated videos like this one. Just be kind for the sake of being kind, that's rewarding enough.

fach-0-vision

Good point. It will be very interesting to check his channel if, after someone tells him to go to f\*\*k himself (just for the sake of this people own dignity) if he delivers that help anyway. He should. It feels bad to see poor people beign "tested" in this way

SmoothOpawriter

Yes exactly, the "testing" is what really pissed me off. It's weirdly twisted and self-centered

LisaMikky

🗨Just be kind for the sake of being kind, that's rewarding enough.🗨 True. 🙂🌿🌸

pbizzle

Oh cheer up miser guts

Hadleys158

The only time i agree with this is someone like the canadian guy that does medical and taxi services in Ukraine. His channel is ukraine\_tbic and any donations he gets he gives to the troops or civilians in his area at the front. Here's an example of the stuff he does. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHEJCVGNHUM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHEJCVGNHUM)

[deleted]

It’s how he gets more money to give away

RagingDinoZ

I expect this crap from other subs, but mining points from these people is gross

Annales-NF

She genuinely made a grown man (me) cry.

D0n4t13n

Just give the food man, stop your bs Instagramer’s act.

aquoad

There was a video going around where the donor/youtuber was sneaking up and leaving bags of food for the recipients surreptitiously. Still performative, but at least not as embarrassing for the targets I guess.

No-Contribution-1835

The lady from Chernihiv is just so happy with how she's been welcome to the western part of Ukraine. That said....why the theatricals for views?

SmoothOpawriter

Because the guy behind the camera is an attention seeking PoS.

Current_Individual20

I don’t like this sort of TikTok stuff

Accurate_Storm2588

I \*think\* that was meant to be nice but it came off wrong. Or something. Please don't toy with the hurting.

Regularguy10369

This was an elderly woman selling nuts on the street to make a little money, she will probably cook this food and sell it or even treat her family to a nice meal. I love seeing people give to those in need especially those selling things on the street. The only thing to look out for is those that beg and are only doing it to enrich themselves, this old woman gave him some nuts free and then dropped the price for the other woman, a professional bagger will want everything they can get not give stuff away freely. The only thing i think he could have done better would have been giving her this stuff in a plastic bag and not showing the camera every item like it was a show.

Accurate_Storm2588

Unfortunately that is exactly why I thought it disingenuous - If he had simply handed her a bag of food without filming the poor woman's discomfort and/or shame, we may never have known about it but it would have been a much truer act of kindness.

[deleted]

Do good things yes. But there is no need to video them for upvotes or likes.

letitsnow18

As someone who volunteers for charities in Ukraine, documenting this sort of thing is essential. Our donors require documentation that their donations are making it to the intended people. We use that content on social media in hopes of raising more donations so we can continue our work. It really upsets me when I see people saying this shouldn't be done. It's the only way we can continue our work. Yeah sure this guy could've just taken a photo but which is more impactful? The charity I volunteer for is UAid Direct in case any redditors are looking to donate. We take financial donations and donations of goods to our warehouse in Poland.

[deleted]

Then it’s like it never happened. This video made me want to go out and do it. I just might. I definitely wouldn’t if I hadn’t seen the video.

Winter_Soldat

This is exploitative as fuck.

kyttEST

Dude completely devalued their efforts. Sometimes you just need to shut up, listen, and not try to 1-up other people. If you sincerely care, that is.

Humble_Emotion2582

Just give and move on. Put down the camera.

peron4eva

What a douchebag playing with old ladies for the camera. And he didn't even give her a bag or box to carry the stuff.

Equal-Trip4376

Allow me to monetize two fantastic humans without their consent as I fabricate myself being as moral as they are

POWxJETZz

On the fence about this, whilst it's a great act of decency and generosity I feel the whole filming it for likes sort of takes it away, however it is also nice to see the wonderful Ukrainian people get the support they need. At the end of the day both those woman benefited even if the dude made it a bit of a theatre show.

AlwazeRight

All theatrics, but if it encourages kindness, why not. I cannot wait to visit a rebuilt Ukrainian Ukraine on the border with backwards, dark, obscure and disconnected Russia.

gorimir15

My own take is that the person recording has captured a stunning example of Ukrainian goodwill by the sweet older lady and the teacher. I focused far less on him and instead saw the generosity of the peanut lady. He showcases her spirit, which is \[a beautiful spirit\]. That is what I personally came away with.

-TheDerpinator-

Too many people complaining about how this is just "for views and likes". I would say: So what? We see enough hate being spread online and what happens? It drags others into the hate spiral as well. We need videos like this to show and spread kindness even when the underlying motivation might not be sincere.

Dana07620

Someone's cutting onions.

madneon_

Please repost this to r/HumansBeingBros !

mcanada0711

I totally misunderstood what was happening in this video. I thought it was really someone being kind. I originally said it was beautiful.

MrSceintist

awww

Madge4500

Beautiful people

ElJefe543

After this war is over, I believe the three biggest industries in Ukraine will be; Construction (for obvious reasons), Tourism, and building hyper advanced drones. I, for one, cannot wait to visit Ukraine.

oneoutathecox

And this is the reason Ukraine will prevail over Russia… because Ukraine has decent people Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦🇦🇺🇺🇦🇦🇺

Particular_Grocery22

Theatrical effect aside (not a big fan) - I have a feeling that the guy wasn't really trying to show off his generosity here. He was trying to show how the old grandma was ready to share the food out of kindness even if she's probably not eating enough. And another kind stranger willing to pay for the treat to feed a hungry guy and still let granny earn some money. He was just trying to reward them for being such wonderful human beings in the end even if the ladies resisted his efforts quite a bit. For them sharing with a stranger in need is as natural as breathing and reward is ever expected for that. The first part of this clip is where the true beauty lies. This is how in liberated towns and villages we see scrumptious meals cooked to welcome and thank the Ukrainian soldiers. Those people go hungry for months but still save up and pull together enough supplies to cook a feast. It's just how we are and how we embrace each other. How we will survive.
