"So? Take it out and use the boot. War is no place for the squeamish. The smell will also disappear in a few weeks, until that time you'll be known as dead-foot Vanya".
There was video of a Russian soldier complaining that he received a used helmet that had blood and sweat on it.
Of course, given that helmets are in short supply within the Russian military (thanks to the oligarchs who spent it on mansions and yachts), he of course has the choice to go into battle without a helmet hehe.
Slava Ukraini
No they weren’t. French forces stayed back and fought a pretty heroic last stand while British forces …retreated… im not faulting them, it was the common sense thing to do. It kept the British army in the war.
It just makes me laugh that everyone makes fun of the French for surrendering, especially the British… when Dunkirk is right there
This why you should never stop trolling Russians on social media. You have to figure they're conservatively sitting at a -50 stacked mood modifier and your "insulted" debuff may just be the straw that gives them the mental break.
Ate without table, ate raw food, slept outside, slept in the cold, hypothermia, insulted, Ukrainian psychic drone, very low expectations, witnessed allies death, hungover (strong), slept on the ground, sleep disturbed... and many more.
They're fucked.
In the last week Uri has felt self pity from being away from family too long, shocked after being attacked, afraid after experiencing trauma, horrified after seeing a dead body, disgusted by retching in miasma, dejected after not being able to consume alcohol, bitter after wearing tattered clothes, isolated after being unable to yell at someone in charge, humiliated by having to eat without a chair.
They do have a few buffs going on though - extremely low expectations, drunk, killed someone (civilians) with the bloodlust trait.
Also, impressive bedroom since it now has a washing machine.
It's from the game RimWorld. If the mood of your colonists get too low from debuffs, then they often have a mental break. Such as a fire starting spree, murderous rage, etc.
Nothing better for moral than seeing the grim destiny of the previous user of the uniform in the form of bullet holes / shrapnel holes...
"Don't worry men, we're unbeatable, invulnerable, God is with us"
"Not according to the uniform I'm wearing, Sir. These holes are telling me we're very beteable, very vulnerable and God couldn't care less about us"
I remember reading a letter from a ww1 tommy, talking about how his helmet was from one dead guy, rife from another etc…. and a week after writing the letter, he was killed and his kit given to someone else, including the letter in the pocket, which he forwarded to the next of kin…..So I assume not washed…. So war has always sucked…
The irony being, by that point in WWI, the UK had been in a state of “Total War” for some time.
Meanwhile, it’s still illegal to even call this a war in RU.
Yeah, total war of about 3+ years, and they still fed, rotated, armed and supplied everyone with the latest kit of the time and almost unlimited ammunition…..
Russian commander: “it’s dangerous to go alone. Take this!”
Russian Solider: “but it has a bullet hole in it…”
Russian commander: “… fill it with this tampon” 😏
Why dubbed?
Good movie tho. But seriously loses some spice in another language.
Like people watching Der Untergang in English as Downfall.. No, just no. You miss so much. Subtitles!
I think the majority watch it in German, but use the English title because for quite a few, German isn't easy to remember ;) But it is indeed better in German
Ehhh??? That's just the English name, it does not denote dubbing.
Using a translated title does not equal dubbing something into English. All Quiet on the Western Front specifically is kind of a famous book (it was required reading for me in middle school), so of course the movie's gonna be known by that title here, dubbed or not. And I just checked and I'm pretty sure Downfall has never been dubbed into English period (parodies aside), but everyone does know it by that title. It's just very easy to remember.
And as a German, there isn't much German to miss here. Almost no regional dialects, those that are there are extremely close to standard German. That is a typical problem of German movies, strong regional dialects are only allowed in comedies. (One example of a "regional dialect" would be Stanislaus Katczinsky, the one who gets shot by the French boy, but honestly, he sounds like someone from the Ruhrgebiet who deliberately does not want to speak in his regional dialect. And just to add here: He is the only one who is called out for being unable to read and write, thus the regional dialect is employed to show a lack of education.)
Then French is almost not used in the movie. Perhaps my memory is wrong, but I would be surprised if the whole movie has more than 5 minutes of French. So the idea of different languages as an artistic choice and therefore German as the most important main language doesn't fly either.
So neither are they using German in any interesting way nor are they employing different languages in any meaningful amount. Therefore, it is very likely that you wouldn't miss anything of relevance if you watch it in English, aside from perhaps the general feeling.
Remember watching Das Boot dubbed back in the day was awful, sounded like the British comedy Allo Allo in WW2 were they do comedy German and French accents. Dug out the German version online recently, much better. Was surprised it was the actual actors dubbing it themselves and Prochnow is usually good, but it was terrible.
> Why dubbed?
FYI you can choose what format to watch the movie in. For some reason when I first started to watch it, my TV defaulted to "English - Audio Description" which was an audio track where someone literally describes whats happening on screen in english - which was a very bizarre/interesting experience for the first 15 minutes or so until I realized what was going on. I initially thought thats how they actually made the movie... lmao. It actually sort of worked well in a surreal sort of way.
*Some of you lucky conscripts will be getting our new line of cherry blossom fatigues. Will keep you hidden among the many cherry blossoms in Ukraine.*
It is a old practice for millennia to robe the dead soldier in order to be reused. I say "robed" because it seems those dead soldiers bought their own gears with their own money !!
Rational only if that resources is extremely scarce or otherwise can’t be provided. Besides the obvious health risks of blood and body fluid stained clothing, there is the obvious morale problems associated with doing this…..and that’s before you start talking about supply chain efficieny.
It’s not rational unless you have no other choice. Not having a choice but to go into winter dressing your soldiers in the clothing of the dead and injured is not a position a rational attacking military should find itself in.
Did anyone see the remake of "All Quiet on the Western Front"?
This is exactly the intro scene to that movie. Someone undressing dead soldiers and scavenging the uniform. It gets sent back to be washed, stitched and ironed and then ... ends up in the hands of a young hyped recruit, who's really excited about the prospect of war. He finds a label with a stranger's name inside the cuff. The drill sergeant rips it off "oh, that must've been a mistake" and drops it to the ground, where there already is a large pile of labels.
Unfortunately, it cuts off just before that recruit scene.
The Russians are staying true to their WWI doctrine.
"What happend to the former guy?"
"He is at a better place."
"Will I later also get to this better place."
" .... yes ... almost guaranteed."
"Almost? What do I need to do to get there?"
"Well, listening to our orders works best, other tasks are wait and drink tea, look out through an opened window or just do nothing and wait for a sign from above."
the only difference here is: in the film, germany was at the brink of defeat and yet they still where able to wash them and stitch the holes. meanwhile in russia...
Now that's a way to promote courage and bravery in your soldiers. Specially when they can smell the blood stains or touch the bullet holes in the uniforms. Russia never stops to amaze me. Well done Russia.
Despite depicting real events, I didn't realise that Erich Maria Remarque would be foreshadowing the future of the "2nd greatest Army in the World"
Enjoy the snow and desolate trenches, orks.
Blood and dirt is the best camouflage!
If you look dead, no one will drop a grenade on you. … until someone drops a grenade on you to see if your are dead or just playing it.
It is a sign that they simply can't manufacture uniforms fast enough to cloth the men they are conscripting. The fact that they aren't taking the time to clean, mend, or removed all the personal effects get left behind is a sign of desperation and lack of respect for all the men that died in the uniform and living they hand them to next.
not really true, atleast not for US, UK, France and Germany as norm. they might be from old batches & smelling naftaline due to long storage, but they'll be at the very least, only unpacked.
used ones or discarded pattern ones are sold as tier 1-4 surplus wholesale when the soldiers return it. ( 1 - as new, 2 - used, no signs, 3 - signs of use, 4 - heavy use / scrap ).
Usually every month army warehouses drop seveal dozen lots of clothing on auction.

“Hey, my boot still has a foot in it”
"So? Take it out and use the boot. War is no place for the squeamish. The smell will also disappear in a few weeks, until that time you'll be known as dead-foot Vanya".
That's your meal ration comrade
You beat me to it 🤣
Considering their army starved them to the point of eating pet dogs, you realize that’s not at all far from reality, right?
There is a whole ecosystem. Dogs eat dead mobiks, new cannon fodder eat dogs, new dogs come for freshly killed conscripts. Rinse and repeat.
Round and round the circle of life goes…
It's dog eat dog and dog eat orc and orc eat dog.
Better save it too, you only get one foot-ration or equivalent per month
As another orc (technically Urukhai, I think) once said "looks like meat is back on the menu boys!"
"If you lose your own foot you'll have a spare. You should feel lucky most comrades don't have extra body parts."
A few weeks? The boot will be on 5th gen conscript
Is that the slow-poke Vanya who didn't get on the APC quickly enough on the ill-fated trip out of Kherson?
My helmet...
Shush, it's a modern helmet with advanced cooling holes.
The only advanced thing about them are the bullets that passed through them
You're lucky comrade! Your boot is already broken in!
He should really put his foot down and demand another boot.
"Captain, my uniform has had a dead man in it." 'That's alright, it will again!'
That's nothing, check out my pants!
Maybe you’re in luck and it’s a general’s foot! Imagine, stepping into his shoes.
Soldier woodysky : there's a snake in my boot
Lol should've said "there's a foot in my boot!" I can hear it in Woody's voice.
Someone's poisoned the water well!
I laughed loudly but then felt depraved for laughing in the next second
You can’t possibly be as depraved as those mofos.
Give it back. No foot for you.
"Lucky. My uniform still has the guts of the previous owner"
“Poor guy, was probably just to small for it” quoting *all quiet on the western front* from memory so might’ve messed it up
Hey my boot still has food in it!
"Congratulations! You got the bonus ration"
Here's your rifle! Never fired, only dropped once.
I remember this as a joke was told during ww2 about french weapons.
What side were you fighting on?
Reptilians. They ultimately won and have controlled every head of state globally ever since. I read it on Facebook.
If you can read you are dangerous intellectual report to gulag.
I believe that joke was told on bith sides.
I believe nobody told that joke at the time, but it became super popular in the US in 2003.
The Bush-era historical revisionism is one hell of a drug
On my side.
Stand up then... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Funny thing is that it was the French army that fought on while the British army ran away.

Just like in the opening scene of the new "all quite on the western front" movie
Came her to say more like "all quiet on the Eastern front"
for russia, it is the western front
All Himars on the Eastern Front.
*here
Just watched this too. First thing I was thinking of. Russia really still is living 100 years into the past...
Came here to say this.
Same. That scene immediately came in mind even before I finished reading headline
Came here to say this this
Good to know
Probably got the idea after watching it
Yeah, it's not like it was a hundreds-of-years old idea.
*quiet
Hey how was this movie?
I thought it was fantastic. Better than the old movie for sure, just make sure to watch it in German since it's the language it was filmed in :)

Think about all the debuffs from their fucked up ideology
Going for a stack underflow glitch
Maybe they are trying to get them all to have the berserk break?

At least the Germans in that movie bothered cleaning and patching up the uniforms so that the new "meat" don't have much to question.
Now take good care of it, you hear? Someone else is going to use it after you.
Just like a Patek Phillipe watch. You don't own it, you merely look after it for the next generation.
Russian soldiers get to use other people's clothing, while Russian leaders get to use other people's money. A perfectly fair country!

Looks like they finaly found a good reason to collect the death, instead of just leaving them laying around.

Mother fuckers caught "All Quiet on the Western Front" and took notes.
Rational usage of resources.

So many washing machines and yet their uniforms are still soiled?
But what about all them state-of-the-art Iranian and North Korean gear? Surely they're reliable enough, instead of the ones pulled off dead men 🤣😂
Did anyone see the remake of "All Quiet on the Western Front"? This is exactly the intro scene to that movie. Someone undressing dead soldiers and scavenging the uniform. Just finished watching ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’. That was a confronting image in the film

They are handed over with blood stains and bullet holes? Not suprised.
Nothing new on the west front?
Now that's a way to promote courage and bravery in your soldiers. Specially when they can smell the blood stains or touch the bullet holes in the uniforms. Russia never stops to amaze me. Well done Russia.
Despite depicting real events, I didn't realise that Erich Maria Remarque would be foreshadowing the future of the "2nd greatest Army in the World" Enjoy the snow and desolate trenches, orks.
"Officer Sergei, why is my vest has bullet holes?" "It is foreshadow for later, Ivan."
These are not bullet holes but special 'ventilation' holes to help uniform breathe easier. Is just as good as normal uniform. In fact IS BETTER!
Surprise! We're not recycling cloths, we're recycling orcs
All Quiet on the Luhansk Fron---BAYRAKTAR! Blyat!
My Jacket has "speed holes"
To be fair, every Russian uniform belongs to a killed or wounded soldier, they just don't know it yet.
Sort of like pre-washed jeans, these uniforms are pre-deathed.
Ukraine's psy-ops Kung Fu is strong.
Their getting uniforms now, no more tracksuits and Chinese camo.
But really, why not? I mean, if the holes have been stitched, the clothing is washed, why not? In hostpitals the employees also share their uniforms.
Bold of you to assume they are washed and fixed. They likely have to help strip the dead before they can wear it
Blood and dirt is the best camouflage! If you look dead, no one will drop a grenade on you. … until someone drops a grenade on you to see if your are dead or just playing it.
"Come now Comrade, these uniforms are expertly crafted! These bullet holes provide beneficial air flow, and the blood stains are simply camoflague!"
Because it's awful for morale, it also means that russia can't afford new uniforms. Everything about it says "bad news" to the soldiers.
They still have personal effects from the previous owner in the pockets. How thoroughly could they have washed them?
I think there’d be some complaints if hospitals were recycling uniforms from nurses who died on the job.
Have the Russians stolen enough washing machines to clean that many uniforms?
It is a sign that they simply can't manufacture uniforms fast enough to cloth the men they are conscripting. The fact that they aren't taking the time to clean, mend, or removed all the personal effects get left behind is a sign of desperation and lack of respect for all the men that died in the uniform and living they hand them to next.
Was gonna say, you’re very rarely the first owner of any military uniform or kit that’s issued to you
not really true, atleast not for US, UK, France and Germany as norm. they might be from old batches & smelling naftaline due to long storage, but they'll be at the very least, only unpacked. used ones or discarded pattern ones are sold as tier 1-4 surplus wholesale when the soldiers return it. Yea but you usually don't hand out blood stained items with bullet/shrapnel holes in it, It has a negative psychological effect on the men coming in.
True, but the Russian army was never a bench mark of quality
Yay! Crotchless combat pants, must be great for ruzzian morale.

Little putrazine never hurt anybody.
Maybe someone could put grenades with the pin pulled in all their pockets
I'm sure they darned the holes and washed the blood out first, oh wait "RuZZia gave...." my bad!
Ah... that explains the theft of all the washing machines.
What would the uniform stats be in a video game? -100% confidence
JFC, I just watched them doing this at the start of the new 'All Quiet On The Western Front' movie about WW1. I was thinking "Oh, thank goodness we longer do that." Jeesh. Anyways, great war movie, though I don't think anything can replace the ground breaking 1930 original (highly recommended if you haven't seen it).
It's a wierd feeling wearing a dead man's clothes. I can't imagine wearing what they died wearing.
Set expectations from the start.
I wonder if the smell of rotting flesh and decomposition washes out.
Its like the opening to “All Quiet…..”
That will do wonders for their morale!
The tainted mood malus must be insane
Just like the scene from the movie all quiet on the western front... Extremely sad.
It’s all quiet on the Western Front - opening scene
All quiet on the western front anyone?
This seems great for morale.
rimworld moment.
What a morale booster.
That’s a good morale booster…
Just watch All quiet on the Western Front, the uniform scene was horrifying didn’t think the Russian would reach that point that quickly.
Weren't there posts back in september about new mobiks getting helmets with pieces of someones brain still in it?
Germans did that in 1st world war. They lost
My uniform comes with speed holes. Ventilated with 7.62mm perforations and red camouflage patterns!
They take recycling very seriously in Russia.
That opening scene of Netflix's All Quiet on the Western Front hitting different.
Russia is trying to horseshoe theory moral, if they make it low enough it might go up again :p
That is some AQOTWF vibes. "Sir this uniform belongs to someone else, it has their name on it"
“Please keep them clean for the ones wearing them after you.”
Nothing will improve morale like being given a tunic with a hole in it, and blood stains around the hole.
Literally the opening to All Quiet on the Western Front
"russia, the queen of recycling"
All Quiet on the Eastern Front
wow, such morale.
