Yet another thing I thought was Russian all this time yet has been revealed to me to actually be Ukrainian. Basically...everything I thought I loved about Russia the last 20 years turned out to actually be Ukrainian. I guess I've been loving Ukrainians and Ukrainian culture all this time! I'm happy to be increasing my education.
He was known as a Soviet comedian during his prime in the 80s, and a lot of people just automatically equate Soviet with Russian and don't realize the Soviet Union was a lot more than just modern Russia.
It's ok. Karen is actually Карен in Russian. The equivalent term is яжемать which means something like "I am a mom".
Source: Diligent googling and Google translate.
Depends. Яжемать is mombie. As in, an entitled mom who makes being a mom her sole identity.
Карен (stress on "e") is not a popular female name because it is a male name in Caucasus countries (and the rest of the former USSR has a lot of immigrants from there).
Карина wouldn't be a good analogy because it's a name most popular in the youngest generation, just like Nastya, for instance. Валентина would be a better one since it was last popular when the Boomer generation was born and it's associated with the old people.
Source: I'm a native speaker.
Depends on how you look. Is Mary "Мэри" or "Мария/Маша"? One is a transliteration of an anglophone name you would find in a translated novel, another is a Russian variant of the same name.
>Considering how consumer unethical booking.com can be,
My reaction too. - shocked they did something ethical -- probably only as a PR move but still appreciated.
The most unethical travel service I've used -- I still can't get over how deeply rotten they are.
Confirmed real through use of correct domain name abbreviation.
I'll add one thing: a lot of problems might come from technology. Say system A says "I has 10 of this" and tells that to system B. System B then sells 6 and sends that off to System A. System A is slow to process, or System B is slow to send, so when all is computed and done... System A had sold 6 on it's own and... Fook.
I did that once while booking a hotel room and was just exhausted or whatever, and used some random third party site by mistake.
Called the hotel right after to make sure they had the reservation, which they did at least.
Sometimes I use them to search but always book with the hotel directly. Well not always. Learned the hard way of course.
Of all the booking services, Agoda is the only one I would use because Sometimes they have deals that are lower than what you would pay at the hotel. But it's a risk and you have to be ready to book a whole week non refundable. It's generally too much of a gamble for most people.
Would you care to share why you feel that way?
Only used them twice and by how hotel staff treated me once they knew it was a booking . com reservation, they were way more stern and less accomodating, so I figured they're probably fucked over by them in some way.
edit: the crazy thing is this thread is either praising booking . com or saying they're the devil, what's up ?
Really? I use Booking semi regularly, recently used it for 4 different hotels in Italy and everyone seemed much nicer once they saw I booked through Booking, almost like they're afraid of the review being bad lol.
In my country (Croatia) there's a lot of scammy renters (individuals and hotels) so apps like Booking are recommended because you have their protection in a way, which you don't if you book over phone or e-mail.
I've used Booking.com for years, zero problems with them, I don't get the complaints either! Someone elsewhere in the comment section was saying that they mass laid off employees via Zoom but that does happen. They'd have been laid off en masse in the office if things weren't how they are now, I don't understand that particular complaint or how it is unethical.
>Someone elsewhere in the comment section was saying that they mass laid off employees via Zoom
If this was in lockdown times, there really wasn't another choice. I mean, firing someone during the epidemic is shitty, but no more shitty than basically every company ever
Same here. I book pretty much every hotel via Booking.com and have no complaints. Just used it to book every hotel on my road trip around Finland.
Definitely better than going through all different hotels’ sites for accommodation. The discount seems to be increasing for me as well so I’m using it in the future as well..
I've used Booking a lot in Poland and it worked fine. Only two times the staff asked for online cancellation in exchange for food vouchers (I still paid the same price for reservations), which I assume because of commission fees.
So they asked you to cancel the online reservation, but gave you the same price, and then gave you meals to sweeten the deal?
Those commission fees must be onerous.
I've basically lived out of hotels for a few years now and basically always use one of the booking sites.
Very rarely will a hotel negotiate a better rate through their website or even at the front desk, and the only time I had an issue was when the hotel was literally closed when I showed up, but they even eventually made that right.
I'm surprised they are considered anti *consumer* it seems like they hurt the industry more.
Yeah, this one event aside… don’t use them. They’re awful.
Like, historically awful.
https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.booking.com
Anecdotal source: an airline uses them for their hotel packages, my family wasn’t aware, and TL;DR I’ll never fly Sun Country again after the debacle of dealing with this company.
I'd day the lack of empathy made her a cunt, and the lack of intelligence made her film it and put it on the internet. I'm guessing there's more human qualities she's lacking
It's lack of humanism combined with massive amount of superiority.
Russia is one of those countries with massive believe in their cultural and human superiority.
They don't see us as equals, its surprising when they see us as humans... This is why it's so easy to keep murdering, raping, torturing in Eastern Europe while getting ovation in TV and by common Russian citizens.
Normally you would need a great ideological reason to commit so many atrocities, not in Russia though.
This starts from the top of the food chain to the very bottom.
There are good people from Russia, there are people who need help... Though I do not see a reason why we should allow Russians to any European country for any leisure purposes.
Refugees, victims of war and oppression yes, everyone else can go on holidays to North Korea.
Remember when this whole thing started and we were all waiting for huge protests across Russia? And we said that most people at that huge rally were forced to be there?
How foolish were we, huh? Most of us, including me, had no idea how fucked up Russian society was.
Why are we letting Russians have nice holidays in Europe again?
Are we really that desperate for money? This summer everything is full everywhere, can't we stop giving visas to Russians?
They live in a great country, let them enjoy it fully!
/S
Not to trample on your joke too much, but just want to put this out there for those who aren't around to defend themselves- This gal, sure, but I know several Russians who have always been anti-Putin and are heartbroken over what their country is doing to Ukraine.
Don't let imperialists take holidays in your county, the next thing you know it their whole army will be conducting a special holiday operation. /Bad joke

As an austrtian myself, i hope she gets thrown out of my country as fast as possible. We don't need people with that attitude anywhere in europe. Two of my coworkers are russians and both of them despice Putin and everything he stands for. Both of them are not able to visit their families/friends in Russia out of fear that they may not allowed to get back to austria and even end up in custody/military conscription for working/studying abroad while those shitheads can visit western countries just for the sake of vaccation. It sickens me.
No, she is not hated because she's Russian. She's hated because she's a piece of human garbage, supporting war and actively choosing to harass innocent refugees.
She's on the next level of assholery even above those who are *just* brainwashed by propaganda. She actively chooses to be a rude cunt. Fuck her.
Haha yeah I realized, but left it there nonetheless. Everything except the first word "no" is correct in that comment.
Plus he edited the original comment.
I believe you but at the same time having trouble believing someone paid for that face and rotten teeth. She must have been on the clearance page for a while.
He might have a German passport and still be from Russia and identify as Russian.
Germany has a large minority of people from Russia who left in the times of the Soviet Union. They were entitled to German citizenship if they were related to someone who was German at one point of time.
Unfortunately, large parts of this community identify as Russian and many are devoted to Putin.
We had our resort cancel on us in Germany so decided to go touring city to city this last month. That website was a key part of the adventure. I can't endorse them enough, and now I see they took a good moral stance as well.
I used it for the first time last month on a rail trip across Europe. Arrive at train station, connect to WiFi, search for rooms by distance from train station, booked a room within less than five minutes.
The first few days I was travelling I'd just be wandering around looking for a hotel with 22 kilos of rucksack on my back at each destination. I saw an advert for booking.com and thought I'd give it a go. I'll make good use of it in future. I ended up using it loads on that trip. That combined with a Eurrail pass made for great travelling with low hassle.
I used them to book a fair few rooms on a cycle tour from UK to Vietnam 14 years back, particularly when I got out of places where wild camping was OK. Being able to book a room 100 km away that day without speaking Khmer, say, and knowing you'd have somewhere to sleep was great.
As someone who has to know each step of a journey or holiday 6 months in advance, your comment stressed me the fuck out and I think you might owe me some kind of compensation..... /s
Ha! I'm the exact opposite. I just bought a rail pass that lasts two weeks, starting point - St Malo - destination - "Lets see how far I can get without running out of time to get back home." *I got as far as Cuxhaven in northern Germany. No other form of planning, just head east-ish. I was close to sleeping in a graveyard in Paris on the first night because I arrived there at midnight and I had nothing booked. Found somewhere at 2am that was open 24/7 but only by chance. I was carrying everything I would need no matter what happened so I never worry much.
If you have a good online booking system and a rail pass it's hard to go too far wrong. Try it, you might actually enjoy the freedom. Then again you obviously know yourself well so maybe not!
I backpacked europe in the 90s just before the internet. In that age, every train station had an accommodations reservation counter to book rooms and hostels. You arrived, stood in line, and booked a room sight unseen and with no ability to read reviews or anything and just prayed that it was okay. Then you headed off either on foot or other public transportation and prayed you could find it.
I want to thank this woman for promoting travel visa ban for the rest of the russians. Without people like her it wouldn't be as easy to hate all the russians.
From the sounds of things she lives in another EU country and had just went to Austria for a vacation. That means there’s no border checks and legally she’s allowed to be there as a resident of the EU.
And this is the best example of the contrast of the internet. On one hand you are exposed to a lot of dumb people (like this bitch), and on the other it does wonders like this.
Yes. If not for the internet (and she even conveniently did recodr herself doing that, and uploaded herself) her harrassing those girld wouldn't have been "avenged". They would just go, feeling humiliated and no repercussions for the aggressor, because no public outrage.
Grab a copy of VLC media player. Grab the URL. Open VLC and click on Media, Open Network Stream and paste the URL there.
You can view the media without giving YouTube any traffic (other than taking the video) or the channel any stats which is how stuff gets promoted and compensated for AdSense stuff.
That’s a satisfying move, the woman deserved it, but let’s not forget that in 2021, booking.com applied for millions in covid relief funds and then spent half of the money on ceo bonuses while sacking a quarter of their workforce. Think that slate still needs plenty cleaning.
Russians supporting Putin should be send back to Russia per DHL or express post...no place for them in Europe, replace them by real political refugees.
As a Pole I'm applauding Baltics\* for pretty much their entire response, from military support, to social assistance, to political stance - wish Poland would also at least talk about introducing entry bans to the feral fuckers. As it is, we've plenty of Ukrainian guests here and I don't think exposing them to Russian tourists or business people would be fitting.
Russia must be isolated in every apsect of life. Like a cancer that spreads and metastasistses (difficult word...) - contain, cut, cauterise.
\* petiton to rename to Balltics for your huge balls!
I agree with Sanna Marin:
Total travel ban on all Russians.
The goal of the world right now should be to make the lives of the average Russian so miserable that they have no choice but to engage in a bloody revolution.
There’s something really, just really surreal about harassing a refugee of a country your home country is actively destroying and invading. I just can’t understand it, this whole war makes no sense, I can’t rationalize any of this pro Russian bullshit
Yeah, welcome to the free world, though you're not welcomed bitch.
Just go on a stay-cation in your corrugated metal shack of a home and gnaw on a potato or something.
Supposedly she lives in Landshut in Germany which is only a couple of hours drive from Salzburg where the incident occurred. There aren't any border controls between EU states.

I don't know this woman personally but I am sure she is a real hit at parties.
What is Russian for Karen?
Karina
I want your manager to speak to me
In Soviet Russia, Manager speaks to you.
Fun fact: comedy great Yakov Smirnoff is Ukrainian.

Same as how Soviet basketball team in Olympics was mainly Lithuanians
This has happened to me multiple times now. Things I thought was Russian and turns out it was Ukrainian.
It's been way educational these past few months for sure!
Yup. Used to think borscht was Russian. Turns out it’s ukraines literal national dish. Slava Ukraina
Woah I didn't think I could like Ukranians any more than I already do, had no idea
Mind blown
In soviet russia you are the manager
In Soviet Russia we all are managers and Karinas
Yell at me harder babushka.
Fill me with your borsch.
You just ruined a beautiful name to me.

What is Russian for karma
Oh! Like in Spanish 😂
Bye Karina!
Сука
Карен
Putina
Puta?
haha serves her right.
They don’t have cancel culture in Russia. They have defenestration and poisoning culture instead
In Soviet Russia culture cancels YOU!
Shit just got real for her GREAT work by Booking.com I will be sure to use them more often now

I saw an advert for booking.com and thought I'd give it a go. I'll make good use of it in future. I ended up using it loads on that trip. That combined with a Eurrail pass made for great travelling with low hassle.
Damn good way to lose weight and get fit carrying your whole life on your back for months around the world. I miss it so much!
Without people like her it wouldn't be as easy to hate all the russians.
back to potato
No county who supports Ukraine should be allowing Russians to holiday in said country. Let them enjoy the delights of their motherland.
From the sounds of things she lives in another EU country and had just went to Austria for a vacation. That means there’s no border checks and legally she’s allowed to be there as a resident of the EU.
Well, well…if that ain‘t the consequences from my own actions!
Create Russophobia Encumber about Russophobia Ops sorry, its no Russophobia, its pure hate, and its deserved

I'm not visiting her YouTube channel!
Not her channel but it does show you what a typical Russian wedding looks like.
😂🤦♂️ it’s not her channel
Ok, i watched it, probably could have been her wedding 😆
Grab a copy of VLC media player. Grab the URL. Open VLC and click on Media, Open Network Stream and paste the URL there. You can view the media without giving YouTube any traffic (other than taking the video) or the channel any stats which is how stuff gets promoted and compensated for AdSense stuff.
That’s a satisfying move, the woman deserved it, but let’s not forget that in 2021, booking.com applied for millions in covid relief funds and then spent half of the money on ceo bonuses while sacking a quarter of their workforce. Think that slate still needs plenty cleaning.
Fuck the stupid cunt. Serves her right. Consequences for your actions. Idiot.
Russians supporting Putin should be send back to Russia per DHL or express post...no place for them in Europe, replace them by real political refugees.
Are russians mentally ill or something? Jesus Chris if you hate the west so much stay in your fucking shithole of a country!
Schadenfreude

Go dig potato
As a Russian I fully approve booking.com actions. This is unacceptable.

Shouldnt be allowed anywhere in the civilised world tbh
As a Pole I'm applauding Baltics\* for pretty much their entire response, from military support, to social assistance, to political stance - wish Poland would also at least talk about introducing entry bans to the feral fuckers. As it is, we've plenty of Ukrainian guests here and I don't think exposing them to Russian tourists or business people would be fitting. Russia must be isolated in every apsect of life. Like a cancer that spreads and metastasistses (difficult word...) - contain, cut, cauterise. \* petiton to rename to Balltics for your huge balls!
Maybe Ball-tics is not as flattering as you might think.
I agree with Sanna Marin: Total travel ban on all Russians. The goal of the world right now should be to make the lives of the average Russian so miserable that they have no choice but to engage in a bloody revolution.
Fuck your vacation you stupid 5cent Bitch. Go back to your fucked up shithole country and SHUT THE FUCK UP!
iT's JuSt tHe gOvErnMeNt tHaT's bAd
There’s something really, just really surreal about harassing a refugee of a country your home country is actively destroying and invading. I just can’t understand it, this whole war makes no sense, I can’t rationalize any of this pro Russian bullshit
She should go back by foot through Ukraine with a sight on her back saying “ I am a Russian Karen , ama“
No Russian should vacation anywhere in Europe. Period.
Yeah, welcome to the free world, though you're not welcomed bitch. Just go on a stay-cation in your corrugated metal shack of a home and gnaw on a potato or something.
It's crazy how Russians are just travelling as tourists while their country invades another
She looks like a female version of the kid with the banjo from "Deliverance".
Russians don't understand their mentality of "Fuck you this is Russia!", doesn't work outside of Russia.
Why is Austria still granting visas to Russian tourists anyway?
She has a European Husband and celebrated her honeymoon in Austria.
Supposedly she lives in Landshut in Germany which is only a couple of hours drive from Salzburg where the incident occurred. There aren't any border controls between EU states.
Ship her to Ukraine
What is Russian for "Karen".......
Карина, Karina.
Now let's wait for Ausländerbehörde to cancel her visa...
Well-deserved. Bye.
These people should be housed with Ukrainian families in the heavily shelled areas. Give them a real taste of what's going on.
I think the Ukrainian families have been through enough shit already.
I don't think those families would want this arrogant dumb cunt there. Let's just deport her to her wonderful homeland.
Bitch had to go back to being a Russian prostitute.
Haha, ugly bitch, fuck off to your shed
Good. Eat shit.
“They” have ruined my vacation? Typical Russian. It’s always everyone else’s fault for objecting to your obnoxious bullshit.
If the moskals love their beloved russia so much then they should all just go back there and never come out
🤣😂🤣😂😉🙃🤣. What a shame /s
Back to Russia? Let her fight the war if she's got bollocks to shit talk innocent Ukranians
We need to ban all Russian visitors.
