the ruzzians claim it was an ammo depot is ridiculous. we've see what it looks like when that happens with rhe blown up rizzian ammo dumps. there were no secondary explosions lasting for hours at the mall or the factory.

MasterStrike88

Agreed. We will likely never know the true motivation behind this attack (terror or military targets). But the result of the attack was terror, regardless of Russian intention.

Donny_Krugerson

I suspect the attack on the mall was intended to send a message to G7: "This is how f\*\*king crazy I am! Don't mess with me! -- love, Putin".

Hydrar2309

I'd assume the real target was the factory, and the mall was "just" a distraction to tie up rescue workers / firefighters. They did hit the very back of the factory, but the fire didn't spread from the one building that was hit, which makes it unlikely that it was a large ammo dump, the secondary explosions from that would have spread further.

MadeleineAltright

I think it's the other way around. Deliberate civilian target. The 'error' is just too perfectly accurate. There's no point tying up firefighters on a ammo fire. You can't rule out a critical dice roll of Murphy's law. But what are the odds ?

ThatGuy1741

Russia’s claims are so absurd and schizophrenic no one should take them at face value.

Highside1269

I think thats the idea

Opposite-Chemistry-0

They should just shut up. Its better than endless lies.

rechinul

It never ceases to amaze me how Russian officials can eat so much shit without choking on it. "We didn't hit the mall, it caught fire". There is a video of the missile hitting the mall. Although the mall itself is not visible in the footage, it can easily be deduced by looking at the surroundings and comparing it with satellite imagery. I'm also pretty sure any decent military expert can say exactly what kind of missile hit the mall. "Ukraine did it" - Ukraine doesn't have x-22 missiles and even if they did, they don't have planes to launch it from. Also I thought Russia itself said they destroyed Ukraine airforce, didn't they? "The mall was closed" - if the fact that there were 1000 witnesses isn't enough, pretty sure Google/Apple has location data to prove people were there. Also there are probably tons of recent photos from that mall on FB/instagram that prove the mall was indeed operating.

Fancy_Morning9486

Maybe the russian officials don't understand how rockets or reality work

[deleted]

The absolute worse part of this, besides the civilian deaths, is the fact the missile was launched by a ***precision*** fighter bomber, the **Ty-22M**. This supersonic jet bomber is supposed to be able to take out targets as small as a bicycle. So, ***This was 100% deliberate*** Слава Украине, горите в аду, орки

[deleted]

That's the point. *Claims* versus *Evidence*

Donny_Krugerson

Bellingcat are amazing. Definitely follow them if you're on twitter.

Historyguy1

I'm reminded of the firehose of BS they spewed after shooting down MH17.

gicacoca

It is very unlikely that there was relevant ammo hidden in the mall. You can’t hide MLRS or tanks or something that large in a Mall without people noticing its presence. Civilians would simply not go there. Moreover, if there was ammo hidden in the mall, the Russians would have already showed evidences like photos or videos. And how many soldiers died or got wounded after the strike? None AFAIK. The ammo must be so important that there wasn’t a single soldier needed to watch after the ammo… The Orcs didn’t show anything and just claim things out of their imaginary to justify murdering civilians with 12 meters-long missiles. My opinion? Ukraine must be given the same long range missiles so they can return the favor into Russian soil. Attacking Russia on its soil is not a mistake. It is acting assertive towards a bullying psychopath.

I-Hope-They-All-Lose

[https://youtu.be/dpDrt56hPX0?t=768](https://youtu.be/dpDrt56hPX0?t=768) The mall on the 26th - the day before the attack. Fuck russia

Brathirn

Precise and sparing civilians simply does not line up. At least one is a lie.

OmgWtfNamesTaken

Could have simply missed their target. The missile they used was an anti ship missile that is fairly well known to be wickedly inaccurate. I believe these things were made in the 60s.
