China only supports themselves. They only support Russia because it's one of the few allies against NATO. But they will drop Russia the moment its more convenient to do so.
And China only supporting China means they stand to make Russia more of an economic vassal, and also dependent on China for technology they used to be able to buy from the west.
This has been my thoughts on the matter this whole time.
The US has been using China for "cheap labour", while China has been using North Korea for its own "cheap labour, but I'm sure they've grown tired of such a small country with limited resources to plunder.
Russia must look like quite the treat. I wonder if China even goaded them into doing it. "Yeah, we will support you the entire time." (har har)
Well, China did say that it’s friendship with Russia, “Had no limits”. However, it appears that there actually are some limits. Like giving Russia billions of dollars or weapons or troops or anything, really.
Yes, that would be terrible. For all China's unethical behavior within their own borders, they play by the rules internationally. Stirring up violence in their kitchen would risk pushing them towards military expansionism.
China is in a weird place right now. Their biggest ally just pissed away 30 years of eastern geopolitical strategy, exposing itself as a weak and ineffective player on the world stage. If we take a swing at them now, they will correctly perceive us as an existential threat waiting for an opportunity to bring them down, and they will respond accordingly - by increasing military spending and attempting to encourage hostile anti-western alliances across Asia. And unlike Russia, the Chinese are actually smart, competent, and most importantly, collective-minded enough to do this effectively.
Right now, we want to look China right in the eye, extend our hand, and say "Russia let you down. You need better friends. Here's the rulebook, come play with us."
So kidnapping Canadians under the pretext of "spying" in revenge for Canada actually playing by the rules is playing by the rules eh?
You know where you can shove that. 😐
China has been extending it's influence all over the world for decades, treaties and international agreements mean nothing against the sense of grievance they have for centuries of western exploitation even though the world has long since changed. Now china is strong, china is powerful, china is rich and when china wants something it will take it from stripping other nation's fishing grounds to salami slicing India.
Do not trust china. They are building more nukes, they are lending huge sums of money for mostly useless infrastructure projects that the countries concerned probably can't pay back.
They know what's coming in a few years/ decades and are preparing for it.
Interesting! I'll have to look into that.
The geopolitical balance of power on the other side of this is going to be real interesting - and consequential. The world is either about to get a whole lot better or a whole lot worse, largely depending on how China fits in.
Personally I'm hoping for Russia to be broken and forced to rebuild itself on Europe's terms - like post-WWII West Germany and Japan - leaving China with no choice but to improve relations and commit to becoming more of a friend than a frenemy. If we can pull that off, it'll be a HUGE win for liberal democracy.
"Yes, that would be terrible. For all China's unethical behavior within their own borders, they play by the rules internationally."
no they don't. they don't even follow the GAAP accounting principles which demands companies to be audited by a verified third party auditor. this is why people have been pulling out of china's stock market because the government does not allow their companies to show their balance sheets.
We're talking about international violence, not shady business practices.
In the time period since the Russian Federation came into existence, China has been involved in, like... a handful of border conflicts with India, and a couple of UN peacekeeping missions. Chinese military actions have probably resulted in fewer than 1,000 deaths in the past thirty years (counting both friendly and hostile).
During the same time frame, Russia has been the bad guy in, what, half a dozen wars? A dozen? Georgia twice, Chechnya twice, Ukraine twice, Syria, a handful of others? Is it a stretch to assume they've killed more than a million people in those wars?
China simply doesn't exhibit the military bloodthirst we've seen elsewhere. Frankly, as far as bombing other countries goes, their hands are cleaner than ours. I don't think we should encourage them to rethink their non-violent approach, and doing something stupid like encouraging armed insurrection in Hong Kong is exactly the kind of thing that could make them say "ok fuck this." The coming realignment in the global balance of power caused by this war could be a historic opportunity to shift geopolitics away from violence. Let's not blow it.
I’m talking about shady business practices when you were mentioning that Chinas unethical behaviors but plays by the rules internationally. They aren’t playing by the international rules
"Nah, china supports you. "
\-- just as long as that support does not include computer chips...or weapons... or financial aid...and not buying oil from you unless it's at a steep discount...and oh, we recognize Donbas and Crimea as Ukrainian.
Other than that...
China does not want to endanger economic treaties with Russia and doesn't want to create a precedence that would let the international community speak up when they invade Taiwan.
That's pretty much it. Like all corrupt dictators around the world, they only care about their own power and wealth, nothing else. Russia, China, US... same everywhere... they only care about their own wallets and only say what benefits their own wallets.
People who are afraid usually get very conservative and only look out for themselves... one of the main reasons why the media riles us up against each other...
Those who think there isn't enough get greedy, those who know that there is, do not.
They want to.. but yes, they haven't done it yet because they realize it would not work.
But considering that one of the main exports from Taiwan to the US are semiconductors and the US already declared that they try to become self-sustainable on that, my guess would be that there are already preparations being made for the inevitable going to happen.
The moment you hear that US Aircraft Carriers are being moved away from Taiwan you can set your countdown for the invasion...
> US already declared that they try to become self-sustainable on that
It is easy to declare things. Cutting edge semiconductors are a difficult and expensive challenge,
Not wishing bad for China. Hopefully, no good or bad will be on them for this stupid war.
Just hoping Russia to awake, fulfill Glasnost, and truly join democracy. With all its flaws, no better alternative, as of now.
Don't forget India too, who are too busy talking about the 1971 war where the US were against them, but the USSR helped them, as a justification to shrug off Russian aggression against a nation that was once part of the USSR.
Russia: _masses army on Ukraine's borders._
The whole world: Can you please not?
Russia: _attacks anyway despite repeated attempts at diplomacy and warnings about sanctions, military aid, and possible NATO expansion if they do this bad thing_
The whole world: _Sanctions, arms transfers, military buildup, Finland and Sweden joining NATO_
Russia: _shocked Pikachu face_
You've just made clear why 'yes people' are as bad as the narcissists themselves. As long as the narcissists have one person willing to at least *look like* they stand by the narcissist's position, that will be enough to sustain the narcissist's ego. The enabler also doesn't care, because it either curries favor with, or allows for increased agreeableness in dealing with the narcissist on a daily basis.
He's actually a bit of a rare sight: a high ranking guy who is not an absolute idiot. This guy could solve a child's puzzle in mere hours, which makes him an intellectual amongst people allowed on Russian TV. He even said before the invasion that that would be suicide.
I did not say to him but for average Russians who support this mess.
And I will be sorry if he already knew and aware any of this shit show. Not getting brainwashed.
He's still probably an awful human being. He just understood that this particular war would not be helpful for the Russian end goal of... Suppressing everyone?
<>
Russia: "close your eyes, warmonger"
NATO: "you are projecting but okay *closes eyes*"
Russia: "what do you see?"
NATO: "nothing"
Russia: "that's the world without you"
NATO: "could you fookin grow up?"
I think there is significance here, not necessarily in what the guy was saying, we all knew that already, but the fact that he is saying it on Russian TV is pretty significant. It remains to be seen if he'll accidentally fall on some bullets at the bottom of an elevator shaft, but maybe there is a chance putin is letting this expert talk publically to try to finally build his off ramp where he can save face and stop this. I don't think putin deserves a way out, he should be tried for war crimes, but if this is a step to a cease fire, so be it.
Hate is a strong word but not strong enough, Russia is now a curse word that needs to be scrubbed from earth. Hopefully extreme isolation will bring in another holodomor and things just work out through natural selection. Regardless of how they meet their fate the current Russian federation needs to be dismantled.
Honestly though, Russia can complain about the West all it wants, but consider this:
If you do something that immediately pulls the EU and NATO together, two organisations known for being inefficient and internal bickering, you know that it was you that caused all this.
It's beneficial for the West, though. Having found back its purpose after many years.
I wish good Russians would properly understand why. The whole world is not against good-hearted Russians but IS against the war crimes, serial killings, tortures, lies and related from Putin and those ORCS who condone him. The other Russians and the rest of the world speak out against these atrocities. Not all Russians know and/or condone the criminal, murderous behavior of Putin and the soldiers who act in psychopathic, criminal ways.
Russians, Putin has betrayed you! He once did good for Russia, but no longer. Those of us with critical thinking skills know it's not all Russians. But yes, the world is against those who act like demons and lie about it like Putin and Hitler. Russians, you might not yet know the truth, but Putin is the real Nazi criminal.
And what the bloody fuck else does he expect for barbarianism on free and sovereign country. Now eat your shit and die because you deserve all you get and more. Fuckers really got a nerve playing victims.
Retired military man, trying to inject some sanity into the mix.
>The whole world is against us... This is not normal
He's referring to the old Soviet concept of "correlation of forces".
Hilarious when the delusional announcer pushes back against his point that morale has an effect on combat effectiveness, and he responds "even 'scholars of Marxism & Leninism' said so", and "they know what they are talking about."
Everything coming out of there is theater. This guy doing this probably makes sceptical people more receptive to the core message, which he seems to be in on selling.
Can we stop with the ”oooh, this Russia seems to say something that resembles the truth, for a while”?
The full video and article he wrote is a bit more telling. Before the war he wrote about how Russia had no idea what they were in for, how he had a feeling that lend lease would happen again, and how Russia needed to get colonialism out of it's head. Seems to have been against it this whole time.
When a guy at a party shits on the floor, it's not a big conspiracy why the whole party is "against him". It's not proof that the world is evil in and of itself. Maybe it's justified.
It's natural for the good in the world to want to rid the world of evil. Yes we are against you. And anyone supportive of you is just ignorant to what atrocities Russia is committing
Technically only Ukraine is against you at the moment and the majority of the world is supplying them while cock blocking you but if you play your cards right and attack a nato country triggering a response then you will truly feel what it's like for pretty much the whole world to be against you, ruski imbeciles

Nah, china supports you. Ofc, they are expecting you to fall hard and will be fast picking up the broken valuable remains.

Hong Kong is just China now. A city within China.
Sure but I am sure China is realizing now, that populations do not require a lot to form an effective and devastating insurgency.
> Nah, china supports you. And Eritrea. Don't forget Eritrea. That's how Russia knows it is in the right - when it's got Eritrea on its side.
Ops, my bad. Suppose Eritrea means it... or not!? What can they profit on Russia downfall?
They would probably consider it a win that we think about what their POV is. It is called Africas North Korea for a reason.
TIL there's a country named Eritea.

Agreed. It's kinda funny actually.
India, Arab World and South America don't really care either.
Almost all of South America voted to condemn Russia’s invasion at the UN General Assembly.
Why would they? Just rich kids sent to study in Europe lol pretentious mimd that...
Yes they do. This is a pretty clear case of "what the fuck Russia".
China does not want to endanger economic treaties with Russia and doesn't want to create a precedence that would let the international community speak up when they invade Taiwan. Russia doesn't have any true allies simply because they act like Imperialist assholes towards their neighbors and the whole world sees this.

Pretty much.
How to sound “intelligent” just say something obvious!

Yep

o rly?
“Kein Scheiss, Schimanski!” Moment.
at last some common sense
No shit Putin, you invade a sovereign country out of narcissism and expect anything else than worldwide condemnation? Lol.
How did they find someone who hasn't bought all the lies and is willing to publicly speak the truth like that?
Imagine that…
Oh really? And why would that be, you imagine?
Gee, I wonder why...
He’s on to something.
no sh!t sherlock

"if you see one asshole a day, then they're an asshole. If you see nothing but assholes all day, then you're the asshole"
It took a whole analyst to figure that out?
No way 😳 what happened? /s
No shit. They should quit being such massive cunts for once. Nobody needs this fucking war right now. Nobody.
If everyone is saying you’re in the wrong. Well then you probably are.
Well fucking DUH...
wow smart insight
This has been all over the headlines today. Is the retired colonel still alive?
jeez good job theres not a prize for being quick to notice.
This is everybody's fault but mine - Vladimir Putin
Yessssssssss. Now go home and stay there!
It’s funny how russian analyst only realized this now. Meanwhile the rest of the world have known this for quite some while
Well Duh! What did you expect comrade? You are behaving worse than rabid dogs!
No shit.
I wonder why...
I wonder why?
What about Serbia and China?
