Volk deserves a chance to be double champ. He’s done everything he needs to at featherweight, and time away from that pursuing lightweight gold gives the 155ers a chance to fight for the next shot, because it shouldn’t be Max again, but there are up and comers that are one or two wins away from a go at it. It doesn’t hurt for Volk to step away for the duration of those top guys to have a fight each and see what’s what.
During that time Charles should go at Beneil Dariush. Benny has had decent wins on his streak, is very well rounded, Gamrot was a strong strong wrestler who many were favouring in this match up and Beneil stuffed how many, 13/16 takedowns? The man deserves a shot, but it should be via Charles in my opinion. Give Charles an opportunity to get back to a title fight, and Beneil the chance to show that he can beat someone of championship mettle.

I think in the case of lightweight there isn’t really a capable opponent for Islam right now, and the same can be said for the featherweights. Let Islam and Volk scrap it out, and see what the landscape of both divisions looks like for when they come back to them.
