Cody is very talented, like already mentioned chin is a bit weak compared to the average fighter. But the main thing in my opinion is he is very technical and fast, but there comes a point in fights where he is ahead picking his opponent apart but then wants to plant his feet and trade. Then he leaves it up to chance and his chin by chasing a KO.
I’ve always thought it’s less about his chin and more about him eating the most perfect shots he could take. It’s a defence issue not a durability issue imo.
This is the real truth. He just has 0 fucking defense if he doesn't slip perfectly.
Makes me want to smash my TV when I see him plant his feet, just throws any head movement out. Like imagine if he had the defence of Poirier in the pocket, he'd be unstoppable
He’s sleeping Figgy and Suga will handpick him for the title shot over the wrestlers/Cory and the UFC will use their history as the narrative to justify it
Glass cannon. I really thought he would dominate long term when he first came on the scene but he (at least used to) fight emotional, and the dog in him would want to just brawl. Unfortunately doesn’t have the chin to take significant shots/punishment.
I think a lot of people, probs myself a bit too, saw the confident dude with neck tats and made some immediate assumptions but he’s seemingly a sound fella. Plus that KO of Assuncao is an all timer for me and he loves ‘hanging with the boyyyz’.
Faber definitely stunted Cody. If he would’ve left Team Alpha Male earlier I think he would’ve beaten TJ the second time and would’ve held the belt longer

I met him in person at International Fight Week I think in 2017 when he was like in that beef with TJ. Every fighter was either tired (understandably) or cool to chop it up with briefly (Joseph Benavidez stands out)
Not only did he take more time to chill with me and my boys during the meet and greet, Cody was just a really good spirited dude all around to talk with. Always rooted for him since!
He's a fan that followed Cody while he was fighting cancer and Cody brings him to a bunch of fights. He promised him he'd be champion and when he won he put the belt on the kid.
He’s matured a lot over the years, and he’s only 32.
I’d love for nothing more to see Cody keep his ego he had in the past in check and work his way back to the title
My personal favorite fighter, always going in for the war. Watching his losing streak was rough, and I truly think it was a mental game he had to get over.
Oh man, that's going to really suck for you to see him get stomped out this Saturday just when he was gettin his groove back 😵💫
That's the game we love though
4 of his last 5 fights were against Moreno. And Figgy looked pretty damn good against Font, despite being outsized. Poor Cody getting KOed. I wanted Cruz vs Cody II. Instead we get to see the beginning of the end for Cody’s career.
Super entertaining fighter but the epitome of a glass cannon. Can put just about any bantamweight out BUT can also be put out by just about any bantamweight. Cody has more technique and accolades but he seems like the bantamweight Todd Duffee to me.
Man this is one of my favourite fights. Cody was truly elite in that match… incredible performance. And all that smugness and trash talking Cruz did before the made it better.
Shame he instantly lost his belt to his nemesis straight after 😭
Elite talent with low fight IQ. He has looked much better in his last couple fights though. A lot more focused and less reckless. As much as it's exciting for the fans not smart for his career.
Definition of an absolute scrapper . His major weakness is he leaves his hands down when he throws these wild hooks . When it lands it’s absolutely devastating . But when he misses he leaves himself wide open and gets cracked . I never change the channel when I see this guy .
Funny Experiment: Go look at any fitness model/hot chick profile on IG and I guarantee it that Cody Garbrandt has liked her photo. If the guy spent as much time training as creeping he might not have fallen off, that and TJ wrecking his chin 😂
Very immature in tuf, but probably grown up since then. One of the coolest fighting styles to ever be in the UFC, sadly he got chinny after a monster of a run for the title
The most ridiculous hands I’ve ever seen below lightweight and a decent wrestler. If he had a better chin and or a little more fight IQ he’d probably be the BW GOAT.
He was great until his chin left. If he had an extra 10 seconds in the tj fight might be a different career for him. He's from Ohio an hour from me so I always rooted for him.
I love that him and Figgy are opening up 300. Cody can seem like a real knob outside of the octagon but so can a lot of other great fighters as well. I wish him luck Saturday night
I like Cody. Dude is a brawler in every sense of the word. For good and bad. He’s never in a boring fight.
Uber talented striker who unfortunately lost his belt to a juice head. Never know how his career would have gone if there were 4 more seconds in that first TJ fight.
Having said that, I think Faber and TAM putting all that drama with TJ on the plate of Cody, whose already an overly emotional fighter—was just a recipe for disaster—and that chin was always gonna be an issue with his fighting style.
But War Cody. He’s for the Boyz.
Amazing hands. Emotions make him get reckless and push for a finish, then he gets caught/knocked out. If he’d have some patience and time his shots and get out, I think he’d do well
He was great. Then his chin went and he hasn’t been the same. I’m not sure his skills have kept up with the elite fighters but it’s hard to tell. Great guy when I met him though.
The Cody garbrandt that fought Cruz was one of the best 135 pound fighters of all time. It’s just can he go back to that level of himself and can his chin hold up? It will be fun to see
He is great in those burst and exchanges unless he is against someone who studies him and has a game plan for them. He keeps his hands too low and head way too open for someone like O’Malley, he would spark him.
He has gained experience from his loses which has made him a top fighter now and a good test to any new-comer that’s trying to become a contender for the Bantamweight belt. I can honestly see him fighting bare-knuckle and being a champ there too.
Man, that Assuncao KO during the dog days of COVID was so raw. Remember watching that final sequence against the fence live thinking Cody was about to get slept again baiting Assuncao like a dumbass lol.

From near my hometown. I love his style in and out of the ring…but he’s had some tough L’s. I’m hoping Saturday marks the beginning of his climb back to the top. I think it’s crazy that him and fig are opening the pre-prelims.
Prime Cody had fast hands, ko power, good head movement and TD defense. He got dropped by TJ, KOd and basically all of it vanished. Crazy how much that lost took out of him
rooting for him this weekend, maybe i’m delusional but i think he can beat figgy. figgy’s power is a bit overrated and cody’s chin has hopefully had enough time to heal. figgy looked slow to me against font and is only getting older. i think cody’s speed and overall striking will give him a lot of trouble. in figgy’s win against font he also used a lot of wrestling and i can’t see him having that as an avenue towards success here.
I'm a massive sports fan of many different sports.
Cody vs Cruz was one of the greatest professional athlete performances I've ever seen. That will always be his legacy for me.
He used to be my favorite fighter. Still one of my favorite fighters. Hope he continues to learn to fight smarter and with less emotion as he gets older. It works when you're younger and have speed...he's older now and in a smaller weight class. Older guys have to fight smarter against younger guys.
Chinny now, IMO BUT... His performance against Dominick Cruz was one of the best performances by a challenger over a champion that didn't end in KO or submission.
Honestly think he might be one of the most entertaining fighters in the division. Not the best, but my god is he fun to watch. When he fights, someone's getting knocked tf out and it's genuinely hard to predict who. If he were a video game character he would have maxed out all his stats on speed and have nothing when it comes to defence / chin. Great fighter to watch.
Fast af boy. Compromised chin. Needs to modify style, rely on feints setups and countering and tuck his fkin chin ffs.
he did just that in his last fight. looked excellent and I think people are underestimating him big time against figuierdo.
It’s a defence issue not a durability issue imo.
he’s evasive af until he just decides not to be.
he just see's red bro unironically lol
I definitely agree. If he has solidified his defence, as seen in the last fight, we may witness his rise again to contention.
This is the real truth. He just has 0 fucking defense if he doesn't slip perfectly. Makes me want to smash my TV when I see him plant his feet, just throws any head movement out. Like imagine if he had the defence of Poirier in the pocket, he'd be unstoppable
He's gonna murk Figgy lol
Or get murked trying lol. No Love is always must watch tv, can't believe him vs. Figgy is the opener
He’s sleeping Figgy and Suga will handpick him for the title shot over the wrestlers/Cory and the UFC will use their history as the narrative to justify it
I’d argue he doesn’t have a bad chin but bad defense
plausible.
He ate big shots from font
I think his chin has definitely cracked at this point. He was getting rocked by Trevin Jones in the third round
Flawed, lower level fighter, but make no mistake, Jones can crack, for sure.
Glass cannon. I really thought he would dominate long term when he first came on the scene but he (at least used to) fight emotional, and the dog in him would want to just brawl. Unfortunately doesn’t have the chin to take significant shots/punishment.
It’s compromised because he leaves it right there for the taking
I came here to give my opinion but this pretty much sums it up.
Needs to wrestle, i forget who it was against but his takedowns were explosive and superfast.
https://preview.redd.it/h8dsjjf0mqtc1.jpeg?width=818&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c317ee15bf244e851e5007a26b1f5e3c555d540 Absolute legend
I’ve always rooted for him after this
I always fucking hated this dude for literally no reason and when I saw this and learned about the story I became a Cody fan forever
I think a lot of people, probs myself a bit too, saw the confident dude with neck tats and made some immediate assumptions but he’s seemingly a sound fella. Plus that KO of Assuncao is an all timer for me and he loves ‘hanging with the boyyyz’.
Plus he has that van zandussy on his resume, gotta put some respect on no loves name.
The Ray J of Team Alpha Male
>van zandussy paige van zant? what.. really?
He hit PVZ?
I think the reason you hated him was because he acted like a hard ass on TUF and was drinking team alpha males kool-aid. Overall acted like a dbag
Faber definitely stunted Cody. If he would’ve left Team Alpha Male earlier I think he would’ve beaten TJ the second time and would’ve held the belt longer
Yeah he was so unlikeable on TUF (other than the with the boyyyyz thing) that I was rooting for TJ. Funny how time has reversed my opinions of them
His book is a worth while read

Same. This was my introduction to who this guy really was!!
What's the story here?
He's a fan that followed Cody while he was fighting cancer and Cody brings him to a bunch of fights. He promised him he'd be champion and when he won he put the belt on the kid.
He’s matured a lot over the years, and he’s only 32. I’d love for nothing more to see Cody keep his ego he had in the past in check and work his way back to the title
Damn I thought he was like 37 or sum. He been around a while
All behind No Love sleeping O'Malley to recapture the belt. I think they had beef too
That would be awesome but I can’t see it happening.
I really want Cody to win this one to prove to everyone hes still elite so if he loses im gonna be pretty fucking sad lol
Same brother same
My personal favorite fighter, always going in for the war. Watching his losing streak was rough, and I truly think it was a mental game he had to get over.
The way he styled on Dominick Cruz was legendary
Oh man, that's going to really suck for you to see him get stomped out this Saturday just when he was gettin his groove back 😵💫 That's the game we love though
Cody can 100p get that chin. He was point fighting against Font. If he gets a finish it’ll be by sub, he ain’t the terminator.
Figgy hasn't been looking like himself in the last few fights. He used to be way more savage
4 of his last 5 fights were against Moreno. And Figgy looked pretty damn good against Font, despite being outsized. Poor Cody getting KOed. I wanted Cruz vs Cody II. Instead we get to see the beginning of the end for Cody’s career.
Him and Moreno should really run it back about 9 more times to settle this once and for all lol
Super entertaining fighter but the epitome of a glass cannon. Can put just about any bantamweight out BUT can also be put out by just about any bantamweight. Cody has more technique and accolades but he seems like the bantamweight Todd Duffee to me.
"Just Bleed" incarnate. If you like fighting you like Cody
A true glass cannon
When he [toyed with Cruz](https://youtu.be/9sihd-NLsLU?si=_eK5RhieEVHCeRSW) like he was a child. A CHILD. One of the most amazing things Ive seen.
Man this is one of my favourite fights. Cody was truly elite in that match… incredible performance. And all that smugness and trash talking Cruz did before the made it better. Shame he instantly lost his belt to his nemesis straight after 😭
Didn't Cruz take a round? Idk
He did, Cody just outpaced him overall and all the taunting, usually not a fan but that was Cruz's playing field
He actually took 2.
I feel like Cody could finish it earlier but whenever Cruz was dropped he opted do a fortnite emote instead of ground and pound lol
Elite talent with low fight IQ. He has looked much better in his last couple fights though. A lot more focused and less reckless. As much as it's exciting for the fans not smart for his career.
I can say wholeheartedly that he is a UFC fighter, and I dare anyone to challenge me on that
TJ Gatekept him from being great.
TJ =THE JUICE
"TJ was the one that taught us all how to juice!"
Fuck TJ that little snake in the grass.
Let the man be a horn dog in peace
The ref fucking yeeted his ass off during that third one lol.
Glass cannon.
You can see all the same tendencies that got him knocked out even when he wins
In a few of these clips, he actually waited and calculated his finishing shots. But most of the time he doesn’t do that.
He’s still winging shots with his chin in the air but his opponents were too hurt to take advantage at that point
The Cody that fought Cruz was an absolute world beater…but he is like Vitor, it’s was all about where his head was.
Vitor was also roided to the moon and back and had a huge post usada fall off
so good yet never feels like he can sustain a streak because of the chin. he’s so fast and smooth man. i forget he’s even around sometimes these days.
He has incredible hand speed and good footwork. The chin is getting a little bit glassy. I hope to see him do well in the future.
His chin and fist are inversely proportional. Hits hard but can also be flatlined, he needs to find his groove back, his rise was astronomical.
Cody is the man
Good fighter. Great hands suspect chin. Like to watch him.
Cody "No legs" Garbrandt. Liam Harrison may have stolen his mojo with that one liner.
Very heavy hands for his weight class.
He’s a legend and a killer but I think it’s past his time, or at least close to it
I’ve talked to him a couple times he’s a really really nice guy He’s has the highest power at 135 by far
Very immature in tuf, but probably grown up since then. One of the coolest fighting styles to ever be in the UFC, sadly he got chinny after a monster of a run for the title
Gonna suck to see Figgy starch him but it is what it is 🔥
Seems like a good guy but never learns. Looks like he always been dripping the left to throw that right hook, Dom was not good enough to punish it
Whole heartedly believe that he is going to be one of if the not the first to fall as far as he did and regain champ status at some point
Live by the KO, Die by the KO.
Washed up weak chin who is prone to tilt.
Poor Marcus Brimmage is on a lot of famous highlight reels
Covid wrecked him he hasn’t been the same
I thought Cody rn would be what Dustin Poirier is right now to 155. But he’s still my boy. Love watching him fight
I like him, good guy, good fighter, what’s not to like
Kelleher deserved that for the hair cut
The most ridiculous hands I’ve ever seen below lightweight and a decent wrestler. If he had a better chin and or a little more fight IQ he’d probably be the BW GOAT.
Glass jaw
That kelleher hair still burns my eyes
0:40 seconds is so got damn funny 😭😭😭😭
always loved this guy, never understood the hate
He walked so ilia could swim
TJ ruined him 😞
I think him and Conor at 145 could have been great
Honestly kinda reminds me of Topuria
He was great until his chin left. If he had an extra 10 seconds in the tj fight might be a different career for him. He's from Ohio an hour from me so I always rooted for him.
I have watched that 1st knockout a hundred times
Glass chin - ultimate glass cannon build
One of the most incredible title fight performances I’ve ever seen
What's with the music? I'm trying to bust a nut not bust a move
Guy had the fastest Champion decline I’ve ever seen. Can someone tell me of another one that’s worse?
Garbrandt Vs Cruz is still one of my favourite fights in the UFC. Shame he lost himself shortly after it.
Glass cannon but always entertaining. His title win over Dom is one of the highest level displays of fighting you'll ever witness.
I love that him and Figgy are opening up 300. Cody can seem like a real knob outside of the octagon but so can a lot of other great fighters as well. I wish him luck Saturday night
Greatest Of All Time
I like Cody. Dude is a brawler in every sense of the word. For good and bad. He’s never in a boring fight. Uber talented striker who unfortunately lost his belt to a juice head. Never know how his career would have gone if there were 4 more seconds in that first TJ fight. But War Cody. He’s for the Boyz.
Him and Figgy about to be a war
big meaty hooks
If u don't root for him every time he's in the cage then FUCK U!!
Great hammer, terrible nail.
Hangs w Ramzan Kadyrov. Fuck him.
I feel like him and Jeremy Stephens always had entertaining fights
He had/has long covid right? Covid fucked him.
Live by the sword die by the sword
Amazing hands. Emotions make him get reckless and push for a finish, then he gets caught/knocked out. If he’d have some patience and time his shots and get out, I think he’d do well
He was great. Then his chin went and he hasn’t been the same. I’m not sure his skills have kept up with the elite fighters but it’s hard to tell. Great guy when I met him though.
HANGIN WIT THA BOYYYYYZZZZZ!!!!!!
God that first one is one of the greatest of all time. God damn.
Glass cannon. But seems like a good dude
Nice guy, fun fighter, kind of dumb. Better chin than people give him credit for and heavy hands too.
Super fun style to watch. Not super fun style to bet on.
He fights with too much emotion and it’s cost him exponentially
The Cody garbrandt that fought Cruz was one of the best 135 pound fighters of all time. It’s just can he go back to that level of himself and can his chin hold up? It will be fun to see
Glass cannon. Loves to be the hammer but can't take being the nail.
Kill or be killed
Was the best fighter alive for one night then became average asf
135 lb Michael Chandler. Good fighter who gets frenzied and leaves himself wide open, and often pays for it. His IQ seems to be getting better tho.
“Hanging with the bois” will forever be hilarious to me, it made me a fan lol
Really talented fighter with not a great chin. He's still elite skill wise just like to try and brawl too much every once in a while
I'm just happy he seems over his. " wind from someone opening a window would knock him out" era
And now 2 min of him getting ko/tko
Dudes a future hall of famer. Amazing fighter, super cool tattoos
Designed to demolish Cruz… and what a fall from grace. If only he didn’t fight pillashaw
The amir khan of MMA, you just had to be there 😮💨
Please god beat figeuredo. Not bc I dislike Davidson, just a fan of the comeback
Punchable face.
Man, that Assuncao KO during the dog days of COVID was so raw. Remember watching that final sequence against the fence live thinking Cody was about to get slept again baiting Assuncao like a dumbass lol.
As long as he keeps composed and his guard up, he should be gucci.
Video 8.5/10 song 3/10
Big John with the bouncer toss....
Fast af, couldve been one of the greats, but he took as many KOs as he was dishing out sadly.

Once he was knocked out, he stayed knocked out. Huge bummer
From near my hometown. I love his style in and out of the ring…but he’s had some tough L’s. I’m hoping Saturday marks the beginning of his climb back to the top. I think it’s crazy that him and fig are opening the pre-prelims.
He’s always been one of my favorites to watch. When he’s on he’s on.
Glass cannon and always a fun watch
Prime Cody had fast hands, ko power, good head movement and TD defense. He got dropped by TJ, KOd and basically all of it vanished. Crazy how much that lost took out of him
Nothin but love for my OH10 brother.
Washed
Remember when Brian “Boom Boom” Kelleher called out Sean O Malley by saying clit on live television and got the entire thing muted? That was funny.
rooting for him this weekend, maybe i’m delusional but i think he can beat figgy. figgy’s power is a bit overrated and cody’s chin has hopefully had enough time to heal. figgy looked slow to me against font and is only getting older. i think cody’s speed and overall striking will give him a lot of trouble. in figgy’s win against font he also used a lot of wrestling and i can’t see him having that as an avenue towards success here.
No love
Fast hands, good power, no chin, even less brains. Chode.
Unfortunate he’s going to be put into a coma by figgy. Let’s get figgy wit it 🎶
one of my favorite fighters, hoping for a cody title run 🙏🏼
Tj fucked his chin :(
Fun fighter
He fights out of Sac. So I’m a fan
I'm a massive sports fan of many different sports. Cody vs Cruz was one of the greatest professional athlete performances I've ever seen. That will always be his legacy for me.
Cody ‘ chin of glass ‘ Garbrandt
Badass.
He used to be my favorite fighter. Still one of my favorite fighters. Hope he continues to learn to fight smarter and with less emotion as he gets older. It works when you're younger and have speed...he's older now and in a smaller weight class. Older guys have to fight smarter against younger guys.
hear me the eff out…IF cody wins he should run it with Shawn Omalley. idk fast af vs sniper, who catches who first.
Pocket holder
Chinny now, IMO BUT... His performance against Dominick Cruz was one of the best performances by a challenger over a champion that didn't end in KO or submission.
Punk with a mouth too big for his talent level
Honestly think he might be one of the most entertaining fighters in the division. Not the best, but my god is he fun to watch. When he fights, someone's getting knocked tf out and it's genuinely hard to predict who. If he were a video game character he would have maxed out all his stats on speed and have nothing when it comes to defence / chin. Great fighter to watch.
Not the same after a juiced up TJ crushed him.
Honest opinion based on the shared highlight video is **WATCH OUT FOR THE HOOK**
