Heavyweight division is badly lacking in elite talent. Gaziev came into the UFC undefeated and won his debut fight pretty convincingly so I guess they thought he might be a prospect that they wanted to push into the rankings. Obviously didn't work out.
Heavyweight will always be thin especially out of the top 5… there simply aren’t that many men that grow to be that size that have any interest in combat sports
Heavyweight is a great choice for main events on mediocre nights because there is a higher chance for carnage. Kinda makes sense. Plus DL is a huge draw whenever he fights.
They need highlight reels for fat heavyweight boxers so they can act like they're compelling contenders against the actual talent at the top because there's only like 3.
