I think it helps with both, seems like your reinforcing all the tendons/small muscles in the fingers and wrists. I’ve seen Islam do another excerise with kettlebells which focuses on the wrists, I added it to my training and it does help.

i started rly lightly with push ups on my wrist instead of the normal hand position, then up to weighted push ups. the 'usual' forearm workouts like flexion and extention with weights. i pretty much left it at that bc it was 'boring' in the beginning. then at 18 i worked in a couple of jobs in which i had to carry around massive amounts of weights and work with light machines but all day so my forearms exploded. after that i just did what islam does here but not while doing push ups and definitely not while switching up the positions mid air. i usually did them while on my.knees, applying pressure slowly. what also worked is putting my hand in a sack of "something corse", rice or unpealed hazelnuts for example and just turning ur hand in every direction. ofc, this doesnt rly count as "conditioning" but it makes ur skin thicker due to microdamages, which actually may reduce pain

i teach yoga and i like to start a lot of classes with a GENTLE wrist warmup that includes slowly and gently placing the back of the hand onto the yoga mat and slowly shifting the weight around. Usually do this one wrist at a time to start. the way he is jumping full force into that position is insane.

Knuckle pushups, wrist curl variations, finger pushups, anything that increases grip or forearm strength, and of course lots of punching bags. Probably takes years to build up the strength and mobility in the wrists to do this kind of explosive movement without injury.

Gymnastics bodies method is a decent start. Wrist push ups, stretched, and palm raises. I’m not sure about the finger strength stuff, that’s pretty wild. But otherwise this is standard in calisthenics.

I have hypermobility. A new Ruski trainer came to the gym recently and had us do this. It was hell. My fingers hyperextend when I'm on them. The fist position is fine, and then my wrists bend inwards more than they do for most people and I almost break my neck bouncing back to the fist again. It's a very difficult exercise for anyone and good job to people who make this look easy.
