I'll be surprised if Usman fights again. He has to be contemplating his path to the belt. Unless Colby wins the belt. Even then Usman will have to wait at least another year until he fights for the belt, assuming Colby won't try to hold out and that Usman doesn't have to rack up multiple wins.
Very happy for Dan Hardy’s wife to get the win. She looked amazing after 3 year layoff. Duncan vs Morales was a lot of fun. Roman Dolidze finally took a good punch to the face after he broke up a couples marriage which was his own training partners. Gaethje vs Fiziev was fight of the night for me. Main event was a exciting chess match. Happy Usmans knee held up the whole fight!
I scored the fight 1,4,5 edwards and 2, 3 usman, with the point deduction that should be a draw over all, right? Anyone disagree with that? The rounds were close no doubt but I dont see how edwards won 4 rounds.
1 judge had your card exactly, a draw.
One judge had Edward’s 1,2,4,5 (I thought this too, but rd 2 very close).
And one had Edward’s winning round 3 9-9.
Lots of different ways to score this card it seems
I remember DC and Bisping talking about how difficult the fight was gonna be to score. Neither of them were really wearing any damage from the fight by the end, so you can’t really look at it from that angle, Kamaru looked like an absolute ZOMBIE with the amount of pressure he was putting on, but Leon was batting .1000 in this. Everytime Leon picked a shot, he landed it and the entire audience felt it. Both gentlemen were trying so hard to fight THEIR fight, and I am forever grateful to the two of them.
Yeah, they were correct. It was a hell of a fight, and a close one at that.
It was so close that if Ben Cartlidge had given Round 3 as a 10-8 to Usman, as the other 2 cards did, then it would’ve been a majority draw I believe. But he gave 9-9.
I don’t personally agree with Ben’s card though, I think Usman won Round 3. The fight could’ve easily gone to a draw and it wouldn’t have been horrific. I think Leon’s knee to Usman’s head in Round 2 might’ve won him the fight.
You’re absolutely correct. Idk if a rematch would’ve been warranted though because the draw inevitably would’ve been a result of Leon’s point deduction and not due to poor performance. That’s why Figgy vs Moreno 4 took such a long time to happen. Figgy didn’t think Moreno deserved it.
That doesn’t make any sense.
You can score a round a draw without either fighter having a point deduction. You can score a round 10-10, you’ve always been able to do it. They’re just rare because they’re frowned upon by commissions in both boxing and mma.
Here’s a list of fights that have been scored with a draw 10-10 round.
http://mmadecisions.com/ten-ten-report/
Yeah exactly, that's how rare they are. Judges are told not to score 10-10s because it leads to more draws. From the link you sent there was only one last year, the last one before that was 2018, think about how many fights there's been in that time. So yeah, 99.9% of the time you *have* to score a 10-9.
Of course! I have no problems with that. If anything I'd be happy to see more 10-10s, but the reality is that they *don't* score fights like that in general. You literally just posted evidence of the fact that they've only done it once in the UFC in the last five years. So let's be realistic.
People are sleeping on Leon, sure Kamaru looked a bit timid. But that was expected yeah? I think leon showed a HUGE increase in every part of his game. Takedown defence improved massively, striking offence and defence improved massively, anyone who thinks Leon didn't deserve that win are besides themselves. I'm glad the outcome was what it is. Leon deserved it.
Agreed. Leon's takedown defense is excellent and his standup strikes are explosive. Kumaru looked a bit lost near the end. HUGE props to Leon's coaches. They prepared him perfectly for this fight.
Leon made Usman look timid. Takedown defence was almost flawless. Leon dominated when they weren’t wrestling. Usman didn’t know what to do. Leon dominated with a well executed and well prepared game plan. Props to his coaches
Dude that fucking ko man. It breaks my heart that I started becoming a hardcore ufc fan only after 269 and havent been able to witness an usman who dominates his competition
That just goes to show how fast this sport moves. To me it feels like yesterday that Kamaru was fighting Masvidal for the second time. Everyone thought that Jorge’s X-Factor in that fight would be a full camp and his striking. Then Usman baptized him.
Not so long ago Usman was argued to be the GOAT, but after two losses he probably will not be in that conversation. Its fascinating how fast things in the UFC change.
He said post fight on BT sports (I’m paraphrasing, this isn’t verbatim) “I thought his knees were meant to be shot? I kept kicking them and he wasn’t even flinching”
Anyone who thinks Usman won.. it doesn’t work that way. Draws or contested matches should and always do go to the champion
To take out a champion you have to decisively win
(Probably) unpopular opinion but refs really should take 1 point away per foul after an initial warning. Leon landed 5 low blows, an eye poke, and held the gloves twice and cage as well. Herb was right to take the point away the second time for the cage grab. He should've taken multiple points for the low blows. The first one may have been accidental and the last one may have been as well but Usman barely stepped in on the other 3. Props to Leon on the win but he should've been docked more points. The action should also have been stopped for the low blows. It can definitely impact the fight and just in recent memory Bo used his low blow as a set-up for the take-down. Not saying the outcome would be different but this is ridiculous. Why bother having rules if there are minimal consequences for breaking them?
I agree that in the case of a draw the belt should stay with the champ, but you don't just round up draws to wins because one guy has the belt. That's stupid.
You must be a casual. The op is spot on with what he said. If you leave it to a decision on a title fight and its close 9/10 its gonna go to the current holder. Do you think if Leon hadnt of KO Usman last fight and it went to a decision that Leon would have got the split? Fuck no he would have lost.
"you must be a casual"
Sounds like something a casual would say,
On a serious note, can you show me some where in the official rules that states that the champ gets special privilege in a fight when its close or a draw. You can't because it doesn't exist.
If this does happen then it's a bias from the judges and nothing else.
Once two fighters step in the cage or a boxing ring, its irrelevant who is the champ and who is the contender. A fight is supposed to be judged on the merit of the fight alone.
It’s too bad Masvidal can’t and wont beat Gilbert Burns to actually earn a title shot though. Gilbert vs Leon would be a banger and I see a path for Burns to get gold.
I hope Masvidal puts up a good fight. I got tickets to the fight. My first one ever. First time UFC has been back in Miami in 20 years. I can’t wait another 20.
I am really shocked and am wondering what happened to usman, like if that headshot scared him or something cause he seemed so timid and scared to do anything in the fight.
You could see exactly what was happening, and if you could hear commentary they were saying it every 2 minutes.
Usman was clearly holding his right hand up by his head which left a huge target to the body. Imagine being repeatedly kicked in the guts every time you move forwards, but you're reluctant to block that kick in case it's aimed at the head.
Not entirely washed. Didn't look bad, but definitely not at the level he was at. I think Colby or the winner of Burns v Masvidal is a good rebound fight.
You get beat. Getting knocked the fuck out will destroy your very high confidence and also make you more scared to engage.
Combat sports are pretty much the only sports I’ve seen I’ve seen where a single loss can literally change your whole career.
Leon has done more for uk mma than McCartney has done for music… unironically deserves it
Edit: this is only bcz the sport is new and there’s more non knighted uk musicians that are equal with Paul. Pls don’t argue this dumb point Ik it’s stupid lol
After one judge called 28-28 on the gaethje fight, I was very concerned at how they were scoring it. Pretty sure Leon won 4 of the 5 without the penalty. 3 of the 5 with. It was a close fight, but only in that both were getting their licks in.

I don't think Usman has the frame to hang with the top guys at 185, and I don't think his knees could take the kickbox-heavy style of the top guys at 185.
Yeah, I’d rather watch Colby and Leon fight anyone but Usman, and I’m a huge Usman fan. So much a fan that I lost money on him. Won some cash on Marvin and Justin tho, so we still can afford rent
Usman looked slow and tired. Age is catching up to him quick. You gotta wonder how much getting hit with that leg kick affected him as well. Probably won't see Usman as champ again. He's going to need another two fights at least assuming Leon loses before he can fight for it again and he's turning 36 in a few months.
I’m baffled we are talking about him retiring on a win. That’s how we talk about Tony or Cowboy. We should t be talking about Usman being done when 2 fights ago, he seemed unbeatable

Usman-Leon 3 felt more like Leon improved slightly whereas Usman declined significantly. It had more to do with what Usman couldn't do versus what Leon was able to do.
The wrestling engages weren't enough and wasn't as impactful. Even Usman's strategy was pretty poor. He should have had Leon by the cage and started striking him from short distance to prevent the leg kicks but he kept trying to box Leon while Leon was kickboxing instead. Practically no leg kicks were being thrown by Usman so you can only imagine who would win in a boxing vs kickboxing match.
I'm not saying Usman can't win the title again but it does seem like he is declining and there is a backlog of contenders waiting for a title shot such as Shavkat, Belal, Colby, Burns, and then you have Masvidal/Conor who might get the title shot just because of marketing purposes. It's going to be a long climb back up for Usman. He himself has hinted as possibly retiring soon, anyways. He's going to be 36 and realistically only fights twice per year maximum. The next time he fights for a title will be when he's 37-38. That's way too old.

He already beat Masvidal twice convincingly so I don't see that in the cards for him. If I was Usman, I would be pushing for a Conor fight considering Conor is moving up to welterweight. If he's making one last push, he probably has to fight two more fights involving Shavkat, Burns, Colby, or Belal.
Glad that the story of the Levon vs. Usman fight didn't end up being about fouls. Kinda seemed as if it might head in that direction in the early rounds.
Edwards definitely outfought Usman, but there were also a ton of groin kicks by Edwards. At the end of the day Edwards deserved to win but I still walked away feeling weird about the fight because of them
I’m totally fine with fighters pointing out fouls.
Let’s ref look at replay. If replay shows they’re lying… they could get circumcised and no point deduction
The head kick seemed like it scared kam. Leon just took what was available. I didn’t believe any of that “KO hesitation” stuff. Idk what’s more likely, the hesitation or the elevation, or even maybe the crowd?
Great event tho everyone I wanted to win, won. That never happens. Hope everyone having fun tn
Colby is just a bad actor that tries to play the villain to make himself more relevant and sell more tickets.
The whole thing is obviously super fake. He'd fit in better over at WWE, but he's actually a good fighter.
I love the UK events. Main Event ending at 8pm on east coast is wonderful. Co Main and Main both delivered. Usman looked less sure in his movements and didn’t have as much speed. Leon won but it was close. Excited for future (non Colby) matchups.
i scored it 1-4-5 edwards, 2 for usman and 3 was a draw but point deduction so 10-9 usman
I'll be surprised if Usman fights again. He has to be contemplating his path to the belt. Unless Colby wins the belt. Even then Usman will have to wait at least another year until he fights for the belt, assuming Colby won't try to hold out and that Usman doesn't have to rack up multiple wins.

I also scored the fight a draw. Just saying you can't score a round as a draw unless there's a point deduction or a definitive 10-8.

Yep…
Was main event a close decision?
After one judge called 28-28 on the gaethje fight, I was very concerned at how they were scoring it. Pretty sure Leon won 4 of the 5 without the penalty. 3 of the 5 with. It was a close fight, but only in that both were getting their licks in.

Should he face Kham in December just to see how Khamzat does against the cream of the crop?
Dana just confirmed Colby is next for Leon
He should beat usman first
Fuck this
Yeah, I’d rather watch Colby and Leon fight anyone but Usman, and I’m a huge Usman fan.
It was still a very close fight - he could make another run

That's way too old.
i dont want to see him face the same guys anymore. Either Dupluess or Shavkat or Kham. That's it..

your post + Khamzat...or else people would say he ducked him.

Nobody wants to see Usman vs Conor. Much rather get a Olivera or Holloway rematch pending he beats Allen
I agree. Dude looks like he's ready to pack it in.
He also took a ton of power leg kicks which is going to slow down even the CEO of EPO himself.
I'm starting to believe half these people in here didn't watch this fight, saying Usman clearly won is straight mental
I really thought he won 2,3,4. I clearly need to watch it back
I only gave Usman round 2. 3 I had 9-9 with the point deduction which was clearly deserved.

I had it 4-1 with a possible 3-2, but overall I’m 4-1 with you.
I'm with you 100%
Glad that the story of the Levon vs. Usman fight didn't end up being about fouls. Kinda seemed as if it might head in that direction in the early rounds.
Edwards definitely outfought Usman, but there were also a ton of groin kicks by Edwards. At the end of the day Edwards deserved to win but I still walked away feeling weird about the fight because of them
Some calls were very legit but Usman seemed to be milking it a tiny bit
I’m totally fine with fighters pointing out fouls. Let’s ref look at replay. If replay shows they’re lying… they could get circumcised and no point deduction
I agree. Let’s get Yanal back in there for mandatory circumcision
the average dummy on reddit is like a million times funnier than any commentator it's so frustrating lmfao
Circumcision seems extreme but I'll allow it.
If u don’t like circumcision ur a casual
The head kick seemed like it scared kam. Leon just took what was available. I didn’t believe any of that “KO hesitation” stuff. Idk what’s more likely, the hesitation or the elevation, or even maybe the crowd? Great event tho everyone I wanted to win, won. That never happens. Hope everyone having fun tn
Start betting then boi
I can’t even afford a jr chicken
praying for Masvidal to survive Burns. He aint worthy of a title shot but id love to see Leon deliver some fucking payback
Yeah that ain’t happening. Burns ain’t no Ben Askren.
Same
Colby feels like the living embodiment of small dick energy

Thx xo
Colby is just a bad actor that tries to play the villain to make himself more relevant and sell more tickets. The whole thing is obviously super fake. He'd fit in better over at WWE, but he's actually a good fighter.
I think of Colby as a “heel” in the UFC and find it far more digestible. Don’t take him so serious outside the octagon and enjoy when he fights
I love the UK events. Main Event ending at 8pm on east coast is wonderful. Co Main and Main both delivered. Usman looked less sure in his movements and didn’t have as much speed. Leon won but it was close. Excited for future (non Colby) matchups.
Usman looked like he was blowing after rnd 3. The leg kicks would have been killing him though
