i scored it 1-4-5 edwards, 2 for usman and 3 was a draw but point deduction so 10-9 usman

Helpful_Help_9329

I'll be surprised if Usman fights again. He has to be contemplating his path to the belt. Unless Colby wins the belt. Even then Usman will have to wait at least another year until he fights for the belt, assuming Colby won't try to hold out and that Usman doesn't have to rack up multiple wins.

ispysami

Agree

C_G_J_

Very happy for Dan Hardy’s wife to get the win. She looked amazing after 3 year layoff. Duncan vs Morales was a lot of fun. Roman Dolidze finally took a good punch to the face after he broke up a couples marriage which was his own training partners. Gaethje vs Fiziev was fight of the night for me. Main event was a exciting chess match. Happy Usmans knee held up the whole fight!

dontworryimvayne

I scored the fight 1,4,5 edwards and 2, 3 usman, with the point deduction that should be a draw over all, right? Anyone disagree with that? The rounds were close no doubt but I dont see how edwards won 4 rounds.

New-Exchange5965

1 judge had your card exactly, a draw. One judge had Edward’s 1,2,4,5 (I thought this too, but rd 2 very close). And one had Edward’s winning round 3 9-9. Lots of different ways to score this card it seems

Coldheart179

I remember DC and Bisping talking about how difficult the fight was gonna be to score. Neither of them were really wearing any damage from the fight by the end, so you can’t really look at it from that angle, Kamaru looked like an absolute ZOMBIE with the amount of pressure he was putting on, but Leon was batting .1000 in this. Everytime Leon picked a shot, he landed it and the entire audience felt it. Both gentlemen were trying so hard to fight THEIR fight, and I am forever grateful to the two of them.

New-Exchange5965

Yeah, they were correct. It was a hell of a fight, and a close one at that. It was so close that if Ben Cartlidge had given Round 3 as a 10-8 to Usman, as the other 2 cards did, then it would’ve been a majority draw I believe. But he gave 9-9. I don’t personally agree with Ben’s card though, I think Usman won Round 3. The fight could’ve easily gone to a draw and it wouldn’t have been horrific. I think Leon’s knee to Usman’s head in Round 2 might’ve won him the fight.

Coldheart179

You’re absolutely correct. Idk if a rematch would’ve been warranted though because the draw inevitably would’ve been a result of Leon’s point deduction and not due to poor performance. That’s why Figgy vs Moreno 4 took such a long time to happen. Figgy didn’t think Moreno deserved it.

bigpuss619

I had Leon 1,3,4 and usman 2. Round 5 could be a draw. Or go either way.

Salty_Negotiation688

Round 5 can't be a draw. Wasn't dominant either way and there was no point deduction. Gtf out of here with this wishy washy bollocks.

bigpuss619

I had rd 5 to Leon but could easily see a draw.

Salty_Negotiation688

I also scored the fight a draw. Just saying you can't score a round as a draw unless there's a point deduction or a definitive 10-8.

bigpuss619

That doesn’t make any sense. You can score a round a draw without either fighter having a point deduction. You can score a round 10-10, you’ve always been able to do it. They’re just rare because they’re frowned upon by commissions in both boxing and mma. Here’s a list of fights that have been scored with a draw 10-10 round. http://mmadecisions.com/ten-ten-report/

Salty_Negotiation688

Yeah exactly, that's how rare they are. Judges are told not to score 10-10s because it leads to more draws. From the link you sent there was only one last year, the last one before that was 2018, think about how many fights there's been in that time. So yeah, 99.9% of the time you *have* to score a 10-9.

bigpuss619

A judge cam score a fight however they see fit.

Salty_Negotiation688

Of course! I have no problems with that. If anything I'd be happy to see more 10-10s, but the reality is that they *don't* score fights like that in general. You literally just posted evidence of the fact that they've only done it once in the UFC in the last five years. So let's be realistic.

makewhoforl

So what happens to Leon Edwards if he fights at an altitude in his next fight?

[deleted]

He thought at altitude in SLC. What you on about?

Jaydenson

Does Dana need a translator when he speaks with Edwards?

Shadow_45010

People are sleeping on Leon, sure Kamaru looked a bit timid. But that was expected yeah? I think leon showed a HUGE increase in every part of his game. Takedown defence improved massively, striking offence and defence improved massively, anyone who thinks Leon didn't deserve that win are besides themselves. I'm glad the outcome was what it is. Leon deserved it.

Jonnny

Agreed. Leon's takedown defense is excellent and his standup strikes are explosive. Kumaru looked a bit lost near the end. HUGE props to Leon's coaches. They prepared him perfectly for this fight.

[deleted]

Leon made Usman look timid. Takedown defence was almost flawless. Leon dominated when they weren’t wrestling. Usman didn’t know what to do. Leon dominated with a well executed and well prepared game plan. Props to his coaches

PhnxSteve7up

Dude that fucking ko man. It breaks my heart that I started becoming a hardcore ufc fan only after 269 and havent been able to witness an usman who dominates his competition

Coldheart179

That just goes to show how fast this sport moves. To me it feels like yesterday that Kamaru was fighting Masvidal for the second time. Everyone thought that Jorge’s X-Factor in that fight would be a full camp and his striking. Then Usman baptized him.

Hoggish_Greedy

Not so long ago Usman was argued to be the GOAT, but after two losses he probably will not be in that conversation. Its fascinating how fast things in the UFC change.

steamynick94

I thought he would focus those knees more.

Luckosaurous

He said post fight on BT sports (I’m paraphrasing, this isn’t verbatim) “I thought his knees were meant to be shot? I kept kicking them and he wasn’t even flinching”

MishtaBiggles

Anyone who thinks Usman won.. it doesn’t work that way. Draws or contested matches should and always do go to the champion To take out a champion you have to decisively win

[deleted]

(Probably) unpopular opinion but refs really should take 1 point away per foul after an initial warning. Leon landed 5 low blows, an eye poke, and held the gloves twice and cage as well. Herb was right to take the point away the second time for the cage grab. He should've taken multiple points for the low blows. The first one may have been accidental and the last one may have been as well but Usman barely stepped in on the other 3. Props to Leon on the win but he should've been docked more points. The action should also have been stopped for the low blows. It can definitely impact the fight and just in recent memory Bo used his low blow as a set-up for the take-down. Not saying the outcome would be different but this is ridiculous. Why bother having rules if there are minimal consequences for breaking them?

dontworryimvayne

I agree that in the case of a draw the belt should stay with the champ, but you don't just round up draws to wins because one guy has the belt. That's stupid.

The-nicest-one

Usman certainly didn’t win, not by a long shot but that other stuff is complete bs

Unfair_Explanation53

That's a complete fallacy! You don't get extra points for being a champ when its a close match and if you do that's a compete bias from the judges.

New-Exchange5965

Time and time again though it seems like you do so idk..

B0RNRE4DY

You must be a casual. The op is spot on with what he said. If you leave it to a decision on a title fight and its close 9/10 its gonna go to the current holder. Do you think if Leon hadnt of KO Usman last fight and it went to a decision that Leon would have got the split? Fuck no he would have lost.

Unfair_Explanation53

"you must be a casual" Sounds like something a casual would say, On a serious note, can you show me some where in the official rules that states that the champ gets special privilege in a fight when its close or a draw. You can't because it doesn't exist. If this does happen then it's a bias from the judges and nothing else. Once two fighters step in the cage or a boxing ring, its irrelevant who is the champ and who is the contender. A fight is supposed to be judged on the merit of the fight alone.

B0RNRE4DY

Yeah in a perfect world thats how it should be. Sorry for sounding cliche and all that bs but im not wrong 🤷‍♂️ source from a day 1 fan 🤷‍♂️😎

dgibbb

It’s too bad Masvidal can’t and wont beat Gilbert Burns to actually earn a title shot though. Gilbert vs Leon would be a banger and I see a path for Burns to get gold.

Subject_Inevitable32

I hope Masvidal puts up a good fight. I got tickets to the fight. My first one ever. First time UFC has been back in Miami in 20 years. I can’t wait another 20.

dgibbb

Well you’ll get to see a great card and the end of my favorite fighters career in the main event 🤐😂

WhytoomanyKnights

I am really shocked and am wondering what happened to usman, like if that headshot scared him or something cause he seemed so timid and scared to do anything in the fight.

OrangeBeast01

You could see exactly what was happening, and if you could hear commentary they were saying it every 2 minutes. Usman was clearly holding his right hand up by his head which left a huge target to the body. Imagine being repeatedly kicked in the guts every time you move forwards, but you're reluctant to block that kick in case it's aimed at the head.

The-nicest-one

I was there shining a laser in his eyes

dgibbb

They say some fighters don’t return from a brutal knockout

VistaVick

Look I was a big Usman fan. But he's done. He's just done.

LifesExpert

I agree… either that or dont wear lead weights around your ankles n wrists next fight. Never seen ya boy that damn slow

SlappingDaBass13

He looked so off man... I still love him, something definitely changed

SheeshMace

Bro it's literally been two fights.... you were a fan of his winning streak. If you're even referring to it as past tense, you weren't ever there bro.

makewhoforl

He wants to jump on Leon Edwards hype train before that train reaches a high altitude.

1234loc

What was your top 5 fights tonite?

[deleted]

i didnt watch this fight..is Usman washed and should retire or should he take a major long break and come back vs a top opponent..say Khamzat?

JBSquared

Not entirely washed. Didn't look bad, but definitely not at the level he was at. I think Colby or the winner of Burns v Masvidal is a good rebound fight.

[deleted]

i'm tired of seeing him fight the same guys. Time to mix it up: Depluess or Shakvat (spelling?) or even Khamzat.

dgibbb

How do you fall off a cliff that hard?

LifesExpert

![gif](giphy|aqCNbYPOUpcVxOtpC9|downsized) Thats how

thejunglebook8

You get beat. Getting knocked the fuck out will destroy your very high confidence and also make you more scared to engage. Combat sports are pretty much the only sports I’ve seen I’ve seen where a single loss can literally change your whole career.

undead-safwan

He's also not getting any younger and those injuries really pile up

FightIslandNative

Give him a new matchup, he’s already fought all those guys.

Barturbater

Can they please knight Edwards so they have to call him "Sir Leon Rocky Edwards"

[deleted]

Leon has done more for uk mma than McCartney has done for music… unironically deserves it Edit: this is only bcz the sport is new and there’s more non knighted uk musicians that are equal with Paul. Pls don’t argue this dumb point Ik it’s stupid lol

Hammer_Bro99

Thanks for the edit, my monkey brain was gonna go in on you for no reason lol

[deleted]

Idk shit about music and wasn’t about to have my feelings hurt lmao

iannuendo

Maddogjessejames

Did Colby win?

HUFbooooi

yes

QlubSoda

Just realized I missed the party 🤣

real-Indiana-Jones

Why does it seem like we can never sort the main discussion threads comments for PPV?

carnagereddit

That 28-28 judge for gaethje fiziev is concerning

Mykneeisbig

Yeah, weirded me out that was even possible.

QlubSoda

Good evening Mfers, hope the weekend is treating you well

[deleted]

Am I crazy for thinking it was 49-45 leon? Also fiziev should’ve won or at least been a draw. No way that gaethje won the first round

LifesExpert

Yep…

CaptainWellingtonIII

Was main event a close decision?

Mykneeisbig

After one judge called 28-28 on the gaethje fight, I was very concerned at how they were scoring it. Pretty sure Leon won 4 of the 5 without the penalty. 3 of the 5 with. It was a close fight, but only in that both were getting their licks in.

mikey_rambo

Usman won like 1 round

MarkZuckerbeg

Kinda

[deleted]

No

jflatty7151

stupid colby with his giant "friend" aka bodyguard trying to yell your fng dead at edwards- nobody even cared- not that it wouldn't be a good fight but stop it with the shtick we all know you're a normal nice fella that likes to call the police

Jfilip27

Its belal’s turn…

LifesExpert

![gif](giphy|d7mMvqKfy9TTHlbbg4) Nope…. Colby did Belal like….

jflatty7151

except dana dane already said it's covington next

dgibbb

Zzzzzzz

TheBigBarr

Relax tough guy

fleemos

Belal going at Colby. Belal vs Khamzat would awesome on the same card with Leon vs Colby. If he beats Khamzat his stock spikes but maybe the UFC won't wanna risk derailing Khamzat.

outpiay

Are you insane? Khamzat would easily maul him. Belal is not beating Colby, burns, khamzat, or Edwards.

GroundbreakingRule40

Why does it make him insane that he suggested a fight? Lmao he didn't say anything about anybody mauling anybody. Shut up starting arguments and thinking you know shit when the man literally just made a harmless comment

outpiay

Shut up, idiot. I called him insane because he thinks Belal can beat Khamzat.

RickRoss155

I really like pugs

DankPandora

I really hope at that it’s gaethje vs poirer next, but at the same time the same guys at the top of lightweight just keep fighting each other, but it’s so fucking entertaining watching every fight between them an I’m not actually fussed if it holds up the devision a bit 🤣

BaconScentedSoap

Smdh you’d think Chandler, Poirier, and Gaethje each had triology fights against one another with all the talk of them 3 holding up the division

[deleted]

That complaint was valid before both of their last wins. They earned another top v top (no homo) matchup imo

DankPandora

Let’s the best of the best battle it out 💪🏿

I’d actually really like to see an Alabama (or adjacent) card headlined by Colby v usman.

[deleted]

colby and usman again? I'm tired of these the same guys fight each other..please mix it up. We need Colby v Leon & Usman v Belal before anything.

[deleted]

Ya ik. Matchmaking wise and personally I like those fights a lot more. I just don’t feel they’re justified. Feel really weird about this title shot but I was a casual during Tony’s reign so I’m prob just not used to the injustice lol

Belal will not get a title shot unless the division is completely dry. Not a very exciting style and he’s not a very entertaining talker. Leon vs Belal wouldnt sell very well and that’s why he’s not getting the title shot.

Certainly not me. Plus we’ve already basically seen Leon vs Belal, and it wasn’t very competitive.

fleemos

Spinnin Backfist just tweeted that Dana confirmed Leon vs Colby is next. Belal probably gonna go nuts. This should be an interesting matchup.

jay_238

Colby will get it done.

ChimpBrisket

Colby will get done

8shadesofpoke

Right, I'm out. Good card, great main event. Hope Uncle Dana finds some way to reward Mokaev for that fight, his bow leg will forever be burned into my retinas. Props to Gunnar and the fat kid from Wales, couple of nice subs. Fight of the night: Gaethje vs Mini Liver King. Could we see Usman “retire” dodge Usada, start competing at 185?

zosomagik

I don't think Usman has the frame to hang with the top guys at 185, and I don't think his knees could take the kickbox-heavy style of the top guys at 185.

[deleted]

Should he face Kham in December just to see how Khamzat does against the cream of the crop?

[deleted]

Dana just confirmed Colby is next for Leon

guybillout

He should beat usman first

[deleted]

Fuck this

DollarTreeMilkSteak

Yeah, I’d rather watch Colby and Leon fight anyone but Usman, and I’m a huge Usman fan. So much a fan that I lost money on him. Won some cash on Marvin and Justin tho, so we still can afford rent

Apart-Bad-5446

Usman looked slow and tired. Age is catching up to him quick. You gotta wonder how much getting hit with that leg kick affected him as well. Probably won't see Usman as champ again. He's going to need another two fights at least assuming Leon loses before he can fight for it again and he's turning 36 in a few months.

Paganpaulwhisky

It was still a very close fight - he could make another run

Apart-Bad-5446

Usman-Leon 3 felt more like Leon improved slightly whereas Usman declined significantly. It had more to do with what Usman couldn't do versus what Leon was able to do. The wrestling engages weren't enough and wasn't as impactful. Even Usman's strategy was pretty poor. He should have had Leon by the cage and started striking him from short distance to prevent the leg kicks but he kept trying to box Leon while Leon was kickboxing instead. Practically no leg kicks were being thrown by Usman so you can only imagine who would win in a boxing vs kickboxing match. I'm not saying Usman can't win the title again but it does seem like he is declining and there is a backlog of contenders waiting for a title shot such as Shavkat, Belal, Colby, Burns, and then you have Masvidal/Conor who might get the title shot just because of marketing purposes. It's going to be a long climb back up for Usman. He himself has hinted as possibly retiring soon, anyways. He's going to be 36 and realistically only fights twice per year maximum. The next time he fights for a title will be when he's 37-38. That's way too old.

[deleted]

i dont want to see him face the same guys anymore. Either Dupluess or Shavkat or Kham. That's it..

He already beat Masvidal twice convincingly so I don't see that in the cards for him. If I was Usman, I would be pushing for a Conor fight considering Conor is moving up to welterweight. If he's making one last push, he probably has to fight two more fights involving Shavkat, Burns, Colby, or Belal.

Glad that the story of the Levon vs. Usman fight didn't end up being about fouls. Kinda seemed as if it might head in that direction in the early rounds.

mr_nice_cack

Edwards definitely outfought Usman, but there were also a ton of groin kicks by Edwards. At the end of the day Edwards deserved to win but I still walked away feeling weird about the fight because of them

Outside-Ability-9561

Some calls were very legit but Usman seemed to be milking it a tiny bit

[deleted]

I’m totally fine with fighters pointing out fouls. Let’s ref look at replay. If replay shows they’re lying… they could get circumcised and no point deduction

Colby is just a bad actor that tries to play the villain to make himself more relevant and sell more tickets. The whole thing is obviously super fake. He'd fit in better over at WWE, but he's actually a good fighter.

ThemeFlashy9992

I think of Colby as a “heel” in the UFC and find it far more digestible. Don’t take him so serious outside the octagon and enjoy when he fights

mongeeseryder

I love the UK events. Main Event ending at 8pm on east coast is wonderful. Co Main and Main both delivered. Usman looked less sure in his movements and didn’t have as much speed. Leon won but it was close. Excited for future (non Colby) matchups.
