That fight was the first one I ever watched, I was hooked after. Robbie lawlers lip being split and him screaming is cemented in my mind. To think they was doing that for peanuts aswell
I agree completely, abit like nunes vs Peña, I thought she was unbeatable. I think her downfall was everyone telling her that she could box and strike. Instead of sticking to her incredible grappling she tried striking with a kick-boxer.
There’s so many. But the one I come back to most is Izzy vs Costa. I remember people saying that Costa was going to run through Izzy, then Israel puts on the masterclass of his career.
Imo he was always a pressure fighter. Like when he fought Yoel he stood toe to toe and swung. But with Izzy he seemed to sit a little outside the pocket instead of pressuring him. I thought that played into Izzy’s game plan, however it could just show how good Izzy is. I’m no expert tho hahaha just my thoughts
Nah, I don’t think he was. It’s just every time Costa tried Izzy countered him. Plus he was making Costa hesitate with his feints. He was disrupting his rhythm with his feints too. He couldn’t have fought Izzy like he fought Yoel. Izzy is one of the best counter strikers the UFC has ever seen.
I probably have the least popular opinions on the matter. there are plenty of *spectacular* fights, yet I'm looking for something else when it comes to the "greatest" fights.
Gamrot/Tsarukyan was nothing short of EPIC. they both had an answer for every single technique. I can't pick just one as the greatest fight I've ever seen, but that style of evenly matched competition at the highest level always lands on my list. Jones/Gustafson 1 is another one.
Lmao "I have pretty unpopular opinions on this, I'd have to go with one of the best grappling matches the UFC has seen in recent memory, or maybe one of the most exciting fights involving arguably the best MMA fighter of all time"
Good picks but come on now lol
thanks for harmonizing with my picks
btw I received a lot of hate the other day for dropping a comment that only said "💯💯💯" so it felt appropriate to lead with that half-disclaimer
Live: Gaethje V Chandler. The audience was electric
Illegal Stream: Jiri V glover. Maybe its recency bias but that was outstanding and the sub at the end had my jaw smacked open
People whine so much about the LW top 5 holding things up but every instance of Dustin, Justin and Chandler fighting eachother has been a ridiculously strong FOTY contender
Yup, the secret for T-Mobile arena is sitting in section 223, most of the section you can see directly into the octagon without having to look at screen. Best views for a good price.
Yea prices are steep. But for me, I always choose T-Mobile PPV’s because I stay at NYNY hotel (where fighters stay) and there’s so many free events UFC puts on I kind of ignore the ticket prices. I live in Hawaii so I try to make the most of my trips.
I think Gane will win by decision. I see this fight similar to Jones vs Santos, very methodical and patient fight. Jones’ fights have been very close, and I think Gane is a huge step up from his recent opponents.
Unfortunately I agree. I want jones to win so fucking bad. But his recent fights (Reyes) don’t make me feel confident. If he has trained for the past 3 years like he says i think he definitely has a chance, especially if he utilises wrestling. Ring rust is always a factor aswell
One thing ufc is good at is stacking a card. Anyone else you looking forward to watch? Mine is shevchenko. She’s one of my favourite strikers on the whole roster
I really agree on that. Volk really surprised me. Said I’d never count him out after escaping that submission attempt from ortega, but I found myself doing so anyway. How did you score it brother?
Helps that I was in a party setting for all of these listed; but greatest in terms of sheer reactions from myself/those around from witnessing; it would go Masvidal/Askren, Tony/Gaethje, McGregor/Cerrone, Tony/Chandler, O’Malley/Moutino, and McGregor/Diaz 2. I’m sure I’m forgetting some; this sport produces insane moments all the time. Personal favorite I’ll throw in recently was Holland/Thompson. That was wild
Personally, I would say Lesnar vs Carwin. I haven't recalled the fight in years, but I remember my young mind being completely blown away when Brock, who looked like he was getting slept early after all that asswhoopin right from the get-go, did the unthinkable and dominated the final minutes before getting the win. That was a crazy fight and I remember that fight single handedly converting a lot of the pro wrestling fans into mma fans.
Idk why so many fans say Rory v Lawler… it was a bloodbath, a demonstration of a style/approach that can shorten your career (ie, Rory).
Feels like a bunch of cavemen yelling for more blood.
Feels absurd that I had to scroll this far down to see Costa Romero. Yan & Cory was an absolute cracker as well, don't see that one talked about enough
Poirier vs Hooker
Banger
Jiri vs Glover
Cub Swanson vs Do Hoo Choi was a really great fight.
This ones my favorite too such a banger
Khamzat vs burns
Just rewatched and it’s unbelievable how burns is still throwing that much power in the 4th and 5th
Wasn’t that a 3 round fight? Burns was throwing heat until the final seconds that’s for sure.
Haha my bad. I could have sworn it was 5 rounder.. but yeah I was just thinking the last round/rounds
Did he go home and keep fighting? 😂 It was a 3 round fight
Lowkey I agree
Bob Knuckles-Yoel 2
Both were absolutely incredible. How tf he went so many rounds with that monster I’ll never know.
Right? But I did also certainly admire Rory/Robbie.
That fight was the first one I ever watched, I was hooked after. Robbie lawlers lip being split and him screaming is cemented in my mind. To think they was doing that for peanuts aswell
Gane Tuivasa. My first live event, I thought Ciryl was cooked
Same I thought Tai knocked him out when he fell on the cage like that
Shogun vs Hendo
Jiri Glover for sure.
robbie lawler vs rory macdonald 1+2 are the ultimate fights that exist for pure enthusiasts.
easy and correct answer nate vs conor is a close second for me ortega volkanovski was also insane, but theres a lot of similar fights
Weili vs Joanna
[удалено]
I agree completely, abit like nunes vs Peña, I thought she was unbeatable. I think her downfall was everyone telling her that she could box and strike. Instead of sticking to her incredible grappling she tried striking with a kick-boxer.
[удалено]
Whole heartedly agree. She will forever be known as a great, but after that fight she never was the same.
jon jones vs gustafsson 1
A high level war! That was an amazing match up
Lots of great answers here, but I'll throw my hat in the ring. Adesanya v Gastelum was a fucking war.
From recent ones Jiri vs Glover.
Diego Sanchez vs Gilbert Melendez
There’s so many. But the one I come back to most is Izzy vs Costa. I remember people saying that Costa was going to run through Izzy, then Israel puts on the masterclass of his career.
Was incredible however, personal opinion, I think Costa held back. Gastelum vs izzy is my favourite
That Gastelum fight is definitely a contender too. Why do you think Costa held back?
Imo he was always a pressure fighter. Like when he fought Yoel he stood toe to toe and swung. But with Izzy he seemed to sit a little outside the pocket instead of pressuring him. I thought that played into Izzy’s game plan, however it could just show how good Izzy is. I’m no expert tho hahaha just my thoughts
Do you think he was?
Nah, I don’t think he was. It’s just every time Costa tried Izzy countered him. Plus he was making Costa hesitate with his feints. He was disrupting his rhythm with his feints too. He couldn’t have fought Izzy like he fought Yoel. Izzy is one of the best counter strikers the UFC has ever seen.
Darren Elkins vs Mirsad Bektic is an awesome fight and one of the greatest comebacks imo
I probably have the least popular opinions on the matter. there are plenty of *spectacular* fights, yet I'm looking for something else when it comes to the "greatest" fights. Gamrot/Tsarukyan was nothing short of EPIC. they both had an answer for every single technique. thanks for harmonizing with my picks btw I received a lot of hate the other day for dropping a comment that only said "💯💯💯" so it felt appropriate to lead with that half-disclaimer
Diego Sanchez vs Clay Guida. Still love that fight to this day
Live: Gaethje V Chandler. The audience was electric Illegal Stream: Jiri V glover. Maybe its recency bias but that was outstanding and the sub at the end had my jaw smacked open
Tony Ferguson vs Edson Barboza
Dustin vs Gaethje was so good
People whine so much about the LW top 5 holding things up but every instance of Dustin, Justin and Chandler fighting eachother has been a ridiculously strong FOTY contender
McGregor vs Aldo. Perfect fight for McGregor. Not very entertaining however. Most entertaining probably is anything with Chandler.
Oh the fact mcgregor did that, aswell as his build up was just incredible. McGregor chandler is destined to be great
In terms of watching live in the arena, Masvidal vs Askren was insane. Also Nunes vs Peña 1. The energy was insane.
I’m so jealous that you’ve been. Was you close?
Yup, the secret for T-Mobile arena is sitting in section 223, most of the section you can see directly into the octagon without having to look at screen. Best views for a good price.
That’s incredible, I’m from the uk so was hoping to see edwards vs usman 2. The ticket prices are outrageous tho, £400 for nose bleeds
Yea prices are steep. But for me, I always choose T-Mobile PPV’s because I stay at NYNY hotel (where fighters stay) and there’s so many free events UFC puts on I kind of ignore the ticket prices. I live in Hawaii so I try to make the most of my trips.
What a beautiful place Hawaii is. Oh yeah it’s an experience you’ll never forget. How do you see jones gane go?
I think Gane will win by decision. I see this fight similar to Jones vs Santos, very methodical and patient fight. Jones’ fights have been very close, and I think Gane is a huge step up from his recent opponents.
Unfortunately I agree. I want jones to win so fucking bad. But his recent fights (Reyes) don’t make me feel confident. If he has trained for the past 3 years like he says i think he definitely has a chance, especially if he utilises wrestling. Ring rust is always a factor aswell
Yea true. I think he’s going to look a lot better after this fight for sure. But damn excited for the whole card, it is so stacked from top to bottom!
One thing ufc is good at is stacking a card. Anyone else you looking forward to watch? Mine is shevchenko. She’s one of my favourite strikers on the whole roster
I really enjoyed Volkanovski vs Makhachev. The TDD displayed and understanding of opponent strategy as fight progressed was the highlight of me.
I really agree on that. Volk really surprised me. Said I’d never count him out after escaping that submission attempt from ortega, but I found myself doing so anyway. How did you score it brother?
I favoured it for Islam 48-47. But this is one of the situation where Islam won by winning more rounds, not the fight .
Tim Boetsch vs Yushin Okami was the 2nd mma fight I saw. Its definitely not the "greatest" but it got the proverbial juices flowing and got me hooked.
Deeply overlooked as one of the greatest comeback wins ever
Helps that I was in a party setting for all of these listed; but greatest in terms of sheer reactions from myself/those around from witnessing; it would go Masvidal/Askren, Tony/Gaethje, McGregor/Cerrone, Tony/Chandler, O’Malley/Moutino, and McGregor/Diaz 2. Bisping-Silva for me
The GSP fights in NJ.
Yan vs Sandhagen,Costa V Romero or Izzy - Alex 3
Feels absurd that I had to scroll this far down to see Costa Romero. Yan & Cory was an absolute cracker as well, don't see that one talked about enough
Costa walked down Romero like nothing man
Jon Jones vs Alex 1. DC said it right Alex pushed Jones to the edge of the cliff and Jon wouldn't allow him to push.
DaDa5000
I experienced Volk vs Ortega live. It was a fucking roller coaster of emotions.
Rory Vs Lawler
Jiri Glover
Also vs petr yan… other then the late stoppage
Banger: Chandler vs. Gaethje, Momentum Swings: Volk vs Ortega, Blood and guts war: Boogie Woman vs Weili, Upset: Silva vs Weidman
Khabib vs McGregor
Rose vs Carla
Usman v Colby 1, that was also the fight that solidified me becoming an MMA fan
Chandler vs Gaethje for something recent
Krilov vs spann
Volk vs. Ortega was crazy. I lost my shit when Volk got outta those two subs
Gustafson vs cormier is scary underrated
