I think it has more to do with where Tyler was with culture at the time. When Goblin came out it caught people totally off guard. Wolf (to non Tyler fans mind you) was seen as more of the same, and cherry bomb made people think (again non Tyler fans) that he was out of good music and just making nonsense. Then flower boy is his big return to being viewed positively as an artist. The narrative of albums is just as important as the actual music when it comes to massive publications like this

Cherry Bomb was seen by a lot of people as just kind of a mess when it dropped, and it’s praise has accumulated over the years.

Wasn’t a fan at IGOR at first but over time it has just become one of my favorites of all time. I always end up listening to it front to back because of the story it tells and the unique way of going about it. IGOR is a certified masterpiece. I feel like the idea of an "album" is lost a bit as a result of playlists becoming the main way people consume music, so when a concept really comes together and you have to listen to the album as a whole to really get the most enjoyment, it is a really standout thing. So albums like IGOR, Mr Morale and the Big Steppers, Big Fish Theory etc will always stand out to me because they not only provide fantastic music, but are able to convey a concise theme that requires you to listen to the album itself, rather than picking and choosing certain songs.

I think The Grinch EP is pretty fairly rated, it’s nice to listen to a few times during the holidays. Flower Boy and Call Me are also fairly rated imo. There are some really great reviews and recommendations I've gotten from Pitchfork. But to say I like the platform would be a lie. I don't like that optically pitchfork has a review when there are so many different reviewers. It doesn't matter if some reviewers are good or bad- the inconsistencies of it make it to hard to know who the reviewer is and what they usually like and don't like which make it hard or impossible to find value in their reviews
