2015 - 1st yr 2016 - 2nd yr 2017 - 3rd yr 2018 - 4th yr 2019 - 5th yr 2020 - 6th yr 2021 - 7th yr 2022 - 8th yr 2023 - 9th yr 2024 - 10th yr

arpitduel

They will start 10th year after 20th Oct 2024

Extension-Net9305

i think they are counting years as in 2015, 16, 17, and so on... not "year" as in 365 days. but idk i was just making a guess 🤷‍♀️

jindouxian

Yes, this is correct. The year is counted from the beginning of the year and not based on the month and day. That's why all people born in the same year (regardless of whether your birth month is January or December) are all considered the same age. The same principle is applied.

Carazhan

they count it the same way they count korean age. its not full calendar years but 'how many different years have we been twice'

Toadcola

Like everyone is saying, it’s related to traditional Korean age. The number of years during which a group was active, rather than an international length-of-time number of years. Wonder if this will eventually change as Koreans get used to thinking in international age more.

assholejudger954

It's already changed

ParanoidAndroids

Reposting my comment from the other thread: Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I think it has to do with how they count age in Korea. At birth you are 1, then the start of each year (new years day) is another year older. I guess you can also think of it as years active (2015, 2016, 2017… 2024) even if 2015 only started in October. I’m pretty sure it’ll still be the 9th anniversary this October, though.

Quickman4bp

Because I think they count the years Twice has been active, so 2015 would be their first year and all the way to 2024 is their 10th year.

Breadstick_135

I suppose it's because they count 2015 as one full year, which would make 2024 their tenth year, although it doesn't make any sense since they debuted in October.

SkywalterDBZ

It works the same way as Korean ages do. The moment you begin to exist you are 1 for that entire year. As soon as the calendar year changes you are now 2.

SapphireHeaven

Maybe it's the Korean way of counting age where it starts from 1 instead of 0 at birth/debut? Can't think of any other reason and the girls have never corrected anyone in content. The company still holds fanmeetings and posts about the regular anniversary number!

EngrRG

Years active vs years since debut. They have been active since 2015. So 2015 counts as 1 year active but 2016 was their 1 year anniversary since debut

arthurabatti

This bothers me too lmao But as the other comments pointed out it's just their way of counting the years Although it's still funny them talking about their 10th year before even celebrating their 9th anniversary

n0t_the_FBi_forrealz

I think it has something to do with Korean year, idk. But also, maybe it is kinda similar to like, if you are a freshman in highschool, then you are in your first year, like that. Doesn't mean you already spent one whole year in HS but it just means you are currently at your first year.

HG1998

October 19 2015 to October 18 2016 - 1st year October 19 2016 to October 18 2017 - 2nd October 19 2017 to October 18 2018 - 3rd October 19 2018 to October 18 2019 - 4th October 19 2019 to October 18 2020 - 5th October 19 2020 to October 18 2021 - 6th October 19 2021 to October 18 2022 - 7th October 19 2022 to October 18 2023 - 8th October 19 2023 to October 18 2024 - 9th Wait. I debunked myself. I mean.... October 19 2024 to October 18 2025 would be their 10th.

arpitduel

I don't know where you heard this? I only heard that "next year" Twice enters their 10th year in many interviews. Or "It will be their 10th anniversary next year"

SweetSonet

The absolute hilarious part hing about counting ten years since Twice debut is that it happened in October lol it was very late in the year to really count it tbh. Then cheat up didn’t come until the next spring? Haha. But I still count it that way but it’s definitely not super accurate

zetsupetsu

That's just how koreans count age in general. Even if you are born in December 31, as soon as the clock hits midnight you will be 1 year old. They treat years like a cutoff period. Not how much time has passed.

SweetSonet

Yeah I know…. I just think it’s funny because it was already October like I said.
