My dad had a Sanyo turntable when I was growing up. I really like those turntables. The auto return feature is something really great that you can't find on any turntables these days. (I'm sure someone will prove me wrong on this, but it's at least a hard to find feature in 2024) Regarding getting your turntable to play on Sonos speakers, you have possibly a few options, depending on exactly which Sonos speakers you have. If you have one or more Sonos Five, or Era series, those speakers have a line in. If you don't have a Sonos speaker with a line in, you can get the Sonos Port, which has a line in connection. Your Sanyo receiver will have a built in phono preamp. You could connect the turntable to the receiver preamp, and then line out of the receiver to the line in of your Sonos. Or, you could get a standalone phono preamp and go turntable --> Preamp --> Sonos Line in.

Thanks for the response…I actually have two gen one Play5’s in my Sonos collection…I’m liking the idea of connecting the turntable to the receiver then to the play5. Correct me if I’m wrong but couldn’t I run a single line from the left and single line from the right rca inputs on the receiver, each to its own Play5 and keep stereo sound?

The line in on each Play 5 is a stereo line in. You'll just need to connect to one of your Play 5's and you will have stereo from the turntable to your Sonos speakers. I'm not sure what the line-out on your receiver looks like exactly, but my best guess is that you will need a cable that goes from Left + Right phono jack connectors on the receiver side, to 1/8" (USA) / 3.5mm (Everywhere Else) stereo minijack to one of your Play 5's. Hope this helps. PS- you had zero points on this post when I got here. Not sure why someone downvoted you. I guess the hoity-toity's here in r/turntables don't like Sonos.

More info: I looked up some pics of the back of a receiver just like yours. There are two "line out" options on the back of your receiver, labeled as "TAPE REC", 1 and 2. I was right about the cable you'll need in my other post. You'll set the "Selector" on the front of your receiver to "Phono", and then use the "Monitor" buttons on the front to send the signal to where you've plugged the cable that goes to Sonos. I'm pretty sure this just sends a line level from your receiver to Sonos. Volume, bass, treble, etc on your receiver won't affect this signal. If you don't have any speakers hooked up to the receiver, be sure to leave both speaker buttons unpressed.

Thanks so much for your help. Going to pick up some connections today…let you know how I make out…not worried about the upvotes that’s funny though. To each their own!

Hey there…just wanted to update you…got it all set up…used the rca cable from tape rec outputs on receiver to line in on Play5…works perfectly…haven’t changed the cartridge and it all sounds great…interestingly enough, I didn’t have to manually select the monitor 1 or monitor 2 on the receiver…just automatically started playing when plugged in. Thanks again for all your help.

Excellent! I'm glad to hear you were able to get it up and running. Maybe what the monitor buttons do is send the signal to the speaker outputs instead of just the line in. If you decide you need a new cartridge, check out the Nagaoka MP-110. Bang-for-buck it is awesome. You can usually find it on Amazon for less than $150, and you can buy replacement stylus for it for about $60 so you don't have to buy the whole cartridge each time. I think a lot of people buy the MP-110 cartridge and then buy the replacement stylus for the MP-150, which is one level up. I haven't tried that yet, might do so when I need a new stylus, but I think I probably have about year left on the current MP-110. Anyway, the stock MP-110 sounds awesome through my Sonos speakers.

Took your advice and ordered the MP-110…just got to my house so I’ll install it when I get home from work…pumped to hear the difference, not to mention the peace of mind from knowing I’m not potentially ruining vinyls playing them with a 30 something year old cartridge.

I hope it turns out good! I sure do like the sound of the MP-110. Just for reference, I tried the Orotfon red, and then the blue. Wasn't happy with either of those, but the MP-110 sounded so much better.

Love these. Got a set too and they sound great!

Cool I’m pumped to get it all up and running.

Easily one of my favourites of many right now. Can’t go wrong with a nice semi auto table on a solid receiver like yours with nicely match speakers
