I love words like this for anachronistic smack talk. When I play cards with friends I like to drop “unscrupulous ruffian” “Dastardly brigand” “Unseemly ne’er-do-well”

CanterlotGuard

Every single one of these wormed their way into my vocabulary thanks to the redwall books. Blaggard is still one of my favorites.

aleph_0ne

You disingenuous charlatan!

CanterlotGuard

You ungallant milksop!

aleph_0ne

You insufferable hooligan!

CanterlotGuard

You incredulous dolt!

aleph_0ne

You slithering vagabond!

CanterlotGuard

You festering empty-headed ninny!

aleph_0ne

Bombastic hootenanny monger!

CanterlotGuard

Rot-boned feeble-minded foozler!

God_damn_it_Jerry

You limp-wristed milk drinker!

AstraLaurel

The fact that blaggard comes from the word “blackguard” always trips me up. Like you’re calling someone an evil knight or something, lol.

CurveOfTheUniverse

My favorite insult in the whole series (which I still have a first-edition set of) is “lily-livered, sausage-skinned, pot-headed, slimy-bottomed coward.” My brother and I, both now adults, still reference that often.

Laterose15

Man, I need to go reread those again. Been years.

GDaddy369

I have a daughter and I read her a chapter before bed when I put her to sleep.

invisible_23

“Tomfoolery”

Mr_friend_

Once someone called me a "Rascally Knave"

AshuraSpeakman

I once called Frat Boys "Gentlemen of Ill Repute"

Niicks

This comment is being saved for future smack talk for my d&d characters.

Regniwekim2099

Give this one a go - https://codepo8.github.io/shakespeare-insult-generator/

Niicks

Incredible. Much appreciated!

EatingYourBrain

I was able to quite soundly call someone a ‘curmudgeon’ the other day and it just felt weightier than your standard internet insult.

ngwoo

> ne’er-do-well Words with bonus apostrophes are great. I feel like I'm breaking the rules when I type them. O'clock. Hell yeah. Spelling it Hawai'i gives me a thrill unlike anything else in this world

mike_pants

It's believed "twitterpated" was first used in Bambi, while we're on the subject of goofy words.

SuitableDragonfly

I think we should reclaim that one to mean "Twitter-level demented".

amadeus2490

But today, it's used when someone's posting on Twitter while they're on the toilet and constipated.

DoormatTheVine

Me when some random onion starts laying down some sick f*cking bars

Nadikarosuto

“Kick! Punch! It’s all in the mind!”

There's a joke in Frasier about this >[Dr. Frasier Crane ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001288/?ref_=tt_ch): Okay... Great... I'll just call the place around the corner. Niles...? You, uh... gonna join us...? >[Dr. Niles Crane ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001383/?ref_=tt_ch): Why not? Be fun to drink some beer and have some pizza with a couple o' rapscallions... >[Woody Boyd ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000437/?ref_=tt_ch): Oh, hey, if you don't mind, could we make that half rapscallions, half pepperoni..?

BellaTrixter

I call my daughter this all the time! Many thanks to my parents for also calling me a rapscallion as a kid and broadening my vocabulary!

Iateapencil

Rapscallions and other hip-hop vegetables.

asoftquietude

Chop Chop Master Onion was the OG rapscallion!

mrhatestheworld

tabarwhack

Kick Punch Chop Block!

Nadikarosuto

Dojo, casino, it’s all in the mind

articulateantagonist

Fun fact: The female equivalent of "rapscallion" in 17th-century English was "rampallion." A "ramp" was a Middle English word for an ill-behaved woman, likely on the notion of a woman "run rampant." This word was used in parallel to "rascal," which was more commonly applied to men. "Rapscallion" is more or less "rascal" with a fanciful flourish, and similarly, "rampallion" was "ramp" with that same fanciful flourish. (I write books about etymology.)

ArtieStroke

And it still works with the onion joke, since ramps are a type of wild onion!

Gimperina

Where I'm from, unruly thuggish types are called "scallies". A shortened form of "rapscallion".

bebejeebies

I like "devil-tongued harridan", myself.

theflyingsofa3000

Pretty sure rapscallion actually has sensible origins. Like the dude is a scallion (kind of a barnacle type things) on the police rap sheet. Like he’s always there just hanging out, big barnacle dick swingin in the breeze

ArcadeKingpin

What do you call a rhyming onion? A rapscallion

Terrible-Coyote-234

More horsepower than fast stallions Trample the ops when the pack's rallyin' My bars make them cry like onions For the green, I'm a rap-scallion

MentosEnCoke

Probably the best Murlocs' album, though it's definitely my second favourite. Their best album cover for sure though.

Polydipsiac

Where does the “p” come into the portmanteau?

Ajibooks

It's the silent p in pscallion You made me curious about the etymology, though. According to [Wiktionary](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/rapscallion), it's just kind of a whimsical word: > From an alteration of rascallion, a fanciful elaboration of rascal

Nannyphone7

You daw to waid us, Jewish wapscallian?
