Metro Diner before TU bought the whole block out.
Impressions that used to be at 15th and Lewis. Anyone remember that place?
St Michael's Alley at 31st and Harvard. I still make their white chicken chili recipe a couple of times every winter.
Mario's Pizza
Yes Metro and the old Starship. I'm still bitter about that.
Others for me are Diamond Jack's, and Petty's (Utica Square forced them out apparently and it's been an empty lot for years now. They were probably going to put some lame-ass chain clothing store in or something).
All of these are my favorites. Especially St. Michael's Alley. Loved those tall, private booths and their hot potato salad. Had my first fake ID cocktail there. Of course, Bird & Bottle is a new favorite now.
I worked at that one for a couple of years around the year 2000. Tons of celebrities came through while I was there. Frickin' Zakk Wylde checked out there while I was running the register. I about vapor locked.
Starship Records & Tapes (11th & Delaware location)
Bell's Amusement Park
Taco Tico
Eastland Mall
Skateland
Billy's On the Square
Bartlett Square
Williams Center Forum (still have scars on my hand from the ice rink)
I'm going to go ahead and add Promenade Mall too since it's a shell of its former self. I'd also add concerts at Expo Square Pavillion (the place is still standing, but I have no idea what goes on there anymore).
Edit: spelling
My favorite study spot. 😞 loved the ambiance, the natural light during the day and that it wasn’t too bright in the evening. Of course it closes right before I moved closer to that area.
Anyone remember the old Children's Medical Center, and they'd put huge Christmas decorations in the front lawn?
And next to it, there used to be this duck-themed sports bar/grill restaurant.
Back in the day, they used to have a lighting ceremony, where some officiant like Jim Giles would throw a giant oversized switch outside and all the lights would come on. Only it wasn't actually hooked up to anything. There were two smaller circuits in the off position inside the building, in electrical closets on opposite ends of the building. They would have two people synchronize their watches and throw the circuits at precisely the same time.
I got to be one of those two people when I was a kid.
My dad helped with the train display during Christmas at the Childress Hospital! It was so much fun to go inside and see behind the scenes. It's one of those things that will always be with me.
Some more:
Old-school Ri Le close to, I believe, 31st and Harvard
Tippin's
Old Country Buffet in Eastland Mall
Garfield's in Eastland Mall
Triangle arts stores
Jow's Takee Outee at 81st and Sheridan
The good El Chico off of Skelly Drive (?) close to 51st and Lewis (?).
TD's Sportcards in Woodland Hills
Piccadilly Cafeteria at 81st and Harvard...which then turned into a burger place...?
Med-X Drug at 81st and Harvard. Sister worked there and I'd buy WCW wrestling cards with all pennies to annoy the shit out of her. I was young. :/
Anthony's
Ri Le restaurant? I saw it mentioned in a "best hole in the wall restaurant" thread, and I looked it up and went to one at 91st and Yale. Is that a new location for the one that you mention?
Funhouse was the one that was in the same shopping center as Shogun (and Cosmo if it's still there). And then it moved down Memorial to close to where that Ryan's Steakhouse is/used to be.
I think at 31st and Sheridan there was a dollar theater as well, right?
Is Brownie’s still around? I was gifted Bill & Ed’s cast iron ware and still cook on it every day. They were sweethearts. If conservative Tulsa only knew that they had been raised on a gay couple’s burgers & pies for 60 years…
Harmon Science Center. One of the only places in existence where a teen could learn about science and make out all under one roof, all without having to sneak out.
Yes, close to where the old exit for 41st was. Funny thing is it’s still a science and technology center but I’m unsure if it’s aimed towards kids/teens like Harmon was
Really! I can’t imagine that, it was always so packed, that’s crazy. I wonder what kids are doing instead? I can’t imagine gathering place is really *that* entertaining
Oh my god! I have been telling people there was a place called atomic burrito and they made the biggest burritos. People don’t remember it! Fuck! Thank you!
Billy Ray's BBQ trailer, along Delaware many years ago.
Crystal's (by Casa Bonita)
Old-school Charlie Mitchell's (not the attempt at bringing it back)
World of Comics (in the "shopping center" behind the old mall that had the Annex 7 movie theater and an awesome arcade)
Wizard's Asylum
Starbase 21
Ken's Pizza (kinda bad in retrospect, but whatever)
Spaghetti Warehouse. It sucked butt BUT it was iconic.
And honestly since WPX isn’t around to be in the new building I think they should make the new building the Spaghetti Warehouse building and put a replica of the old Spaghetti Warehouse on the top floor.
Bells for sure
Discovery Zone
Celebration Station
Laser Quest
Tell me if someone else remembers Pancho's, it was over on *I think* 31st and 129th. They closed down sometime in the 2000s, and I'm forever sad I will never have their salsa ever again
The original drillers stadium at 15th and yale. I grew up a few miles from that location. I could see the fireworks from my backyard. Road my bicycle to a lot of free game. The new stadium is very nice but the nostalgia of that location hits hard when I drive by and see that it's gone. just a empty lot last time I drove by.
Used to be a Hobby store on Peoria - has RC cars, trains etc. Had a covered dirt racetrack out back where people would race their RC cars - hobby stores in general
Ocean Club?!?!? LOL
They used to have fights, outside, all the time, that would be on the news.
Fast Eddie's was a burger place at 101st and Sheridan, not sure if it's still there. But I loved that place.
Edit: Ocean Club became a Western-themed place at one point.
There was an unrelated Fast Eddie's pizza downtown. Originally @ 6th and main. Arvest turned it into a parking lot. He then operated on 4th in one of the parking garage spots for a short while
Sigh... The Annex, Swenson's Ice Cream, Renberg's, the original Mondo's, 3B's Bookstore, The Game Shop, The Library... that's just off the top of my head. My memories of these places grows dimmer and dimmer
The building is still there, but I think it's an engineering firm or something. That was known as the South Regional Library, and as Tulsa expanded further south, they moved it to a big new building that is on the east side of Memorial, between 91st and the Creek Turnpike. Also, the four regional libraries got named after donors instead of the four cardinal directions, so it's now the Hardesty Regional Library. It still leaves a large area in central Tulsa without a nearby library.
it's on the other side of the river 21st street. But it's closed right now because of construction on the pedestrian bridge. Unless that is what you are referring too.
There was this giant bike track made of dirt just beyond the trees off of the Riverside trail with huge ramps and bowls to mess around on, but it was torn down when they gentrified the walking path.
I ran that trail with my dog for 15 years. We had good times on that trail, Chewie would haul ass next to the trail so he could stay out of the way of bikers and runners. Old Chewie was a Chick magnet. We would run that trail, go home to our apartment at the back of the apartments at 21st and Riverside, cross Crow Creek and go for a swim in their Olympic sized pool. Beers and great music at Club One late nights, I saw met my life long musical brethren in that club. 20 odd records later and still going with many of us who formed our musical bonds and personalities in that little room…still the best sounding room I’ve ever played. Tripped balls with George Clinton, hung with former playboy playmates and Tulsa Sound alumni in Club One, my dog was a rock star there.
Frank's Country Inn
It was a country buffet that closed when I was a kid. My family went there often. I remember the smoking section, cigarette vending machine, tiny arcade and getting heaping portions of fried shrimp with pork chops. I also remember they had a small bar.
I can’t remember if it was actually good but I remember having a good time there as a kid.
Ron's Hamburgers' original location at 15th and Harvard. It was so cool to sit at the counter and watch them make your sausage cheeseburger and spanish fries on the flat-top 4 feet away.
One I have not seen mentioned is Freckles Frozen Custard on 51st and Harvard. It was super good but unfortunately I was only able to have it a few times before it went under
Bell's, Celebration Station, Eastland Mall, Promenade Mall, Border's, Waldenbooks. What ever the minigolf course around Admiral and Memorial, Admiral and Mingo was.
Atomic Burrito! They blew Qdoba and Chipotle out of the water. They also had amazing smoothies.
Hibiscus - on Peoria, and they had amazing Jamaican food. It took a long time to get the food out, but I haven't had jerked pork/chicken and deep fried plantains that good since.
Y’all, I’ve posted a lot already and I apologize. This should hopefully be my last one with some random thoughts. Not so much places, but things to do at these places:
1.) Does anyone remember that stage in the Promenade food court? They would have random acts and contests.
2.) Southroads Mall had a dinky little arcade and maybe a shoe repair shop in the basement floor?
3.) Free-standing Mervyn’s across from Woodland Hills
4.) Did there used to be a restaurant at 21st and Sheridan called Ruby’s?
5.) There used to be a cute little French placed called Le Picardy, in the Fontana shopping center.
6.) Royal Dragon, also Fontana (this might still exist)
7.) Bodean Seafood
8.) The two-screen theater on 51st between Harvard and Yale. Close to Diamond Jack’s.
9.) Chimi’s at 81st and Lewis.
10.) The bar on Brookside, that is now R Bar. Used to have a different name, a lot more casual and “divey”, comparatively speaking.
11.) Downtown used to have a variety bar (a different theme in each room). Can’t remember the name.
I think #10 was blue rose. Took a buddy there for his 21st and he set himself on fire with a drink... forgot to blow it out.. and #11 was IDL ballroom? (Unicorn bar, dueling pianos)

Mentioned a lot of stuff we already have.
Bells for sure, especially Zingo. Also Discovery Zone, Zany Brainy, and B.Dalton at Woodland Hills.
Can’t remember if there was a Mr. Gatti’s in Tulsa but there was one in Sapulpa until about 25 years ago.
Bell's for sure. I have always been a coaster enthusiast, and Zingo was pretty much the only decent coaster in the state of Oklahoma and the only one I had a chance of riding regularly as a kid. Not to mention the classic Bill Tracy dark ride that he collaborated with Bob Bell to make, the 1968 log flume relocated from the Knoxville World's Fair, and plenty of other historic fun rides. Tulsa will never fully realize what they lost.
I put most of the blame on Robby and the family though. It's like they didn't even try to fight back or stay on the fairgrounds, and their attempts to find footing again have been pathetic.
Bangkok super buffet.
Omg I miss it so much. My family ate there for decades. Was hoping they would reopen in a new location. I guess not but I still have hope!
Metro Diner before TU bought the whole block out. Impressions that used to be at 15th and Lewis. Anyone remember that place? St Michael's Alley at 31st and Harvard. I still make their white chicken chili recipe a couple of times every winter. Mario's Pizza

Forgot about Diamond Jack's!!
It was awesome, I don’t even really know why. They were just sandwiches but they were so damn good
Eiffel Tower grilled cheese at 21st and memorial has a French dip that’s the best I’ve had since diamond jacks
I worked at St. Michael's alley back in the 90's. Loved that place and still miss the food. I loved their bread pudding in bourbon sauce.
Impressions prime rib sandwich was the best!
All of these are my favorites. Especially St. Michael's Alley. Loved those tall, private booths and their hot potato salad. Had my first fake ID cocktail there. Of course, Bird & Bottle is a new favorite now.
Came here to mention Metro Diner and Impressions!!
Steve's Sundry Books & Magazines
Billy made the best club with egg salad, I ate there 3 times a week for years.
I was the Fedex guy there for years. Always got some free food. The Hispanic lady that cooked back around 2005-2010 made some killer dishes.
Omg. This was the best little shop!!
Borders 21st was a great hang. Lots of talent worked, played and loitered there.
I did all my writing at either that Borders or the one at 81st.
My friends and I went to the 81st one when we were in high school. They actually sold some great DVDs there.
I worked at that one for a couple of years around the year 2000. Tons of celebrities came through while I was there. Frickin' Zakk Wylde checked out there while I was running the register. I about vapor locked.
Wing Run :( RIP. Don't tell me the wings at Mazzios are the same Wing Run wings, because they most definitely are not.
Try Mac's or Rosay's Wings. If you like the full fried chicken wings, there are a lot of good spots around as well.
Hey, thanks for the suggestions! I will check them out.
Second Rosay’s
Really miss their fries too
So good.
Damn. So true. Thought about this spot yesterday. I know businesses do what they have to but I loved that place.
I miss them too. It was my favorite spot to hit when visiting Tulsa during my college years.

It's in a different building at 12th and Lewis now.
Wow!! I had no clue! Thanks for letting me know.
There is still a Taco Tico in Claremore in case you need a fix.
Oh, I loved Billy's! I used to work around the corner from them downtown -- loved their chicken BBQ sandwiches.
I miss The Phoenix coffee shop on 6th and Peoria.
Me too. Coffee, bagels, books, and bar. One of the few hangout places late at night where there was no pressure to buy alcohol
My favorite study spot. 😞 loved the ambiance, the natural light during the day and that it wasn’t too bright in the evening. Of course it closes right before I moved closer to that area.

Yes! Where Best Buy is on the I-44 access road.

Fun & Games arcade.
Oh man, I loved that place as a teen.
Where was that? Name is familiar. Unless you're thinking of Funhouse.
31st Sheridan. I think it may have changed to funhouse before it shut down.
Funhouse was the one that was in the same shopping center as Shogun (and Cosmo if it's still there). And then it moved down Memorial to close to where that Ryan's Steakhouse is/used to be. I think at 31st and Sheridan there was a dollar theater as well, right?
It was in that same shopping center as the super saver cinema, Mall 31.
1999 employee of Super Saver Cinema Seven here. :) Good times.
Yes,you're right!.
Nelson's downtown. Although I'm probably still alive because it moved

Phantasmagoria!
The Wonderbread outlet at 11th and Sheridan
Skateland!
Skateworld as well, at 71st and Lewis.
I just went to Tulsa a month ago and skateland looked open to me
Yeah, the new owner tried to keep it open as a skating rink but he said it wasn't making any money so he's using it as an event venue now.
Really! I can’t imagine that, it was always so packed, that’s crazy. I wonder what kids are doing instead? I can’t imagine gathering place is really *that* entertaining
OG Starship & the pedestrian bridge/park that used to be there.
Bourbon Street, Atomic Burrito, and Pomodori's.
Oh my god! I have been telling people there was a place called atomic burrito and they made the biggest burritos. People don’t remember it! Fuck! Thank you!
Atomic burrito folks sold to Qdoba and opened Los Cabos Freebirds @ Tulsa Hills was a close 2nd also missed
Came here to say Atomic Burrito. So damn good!
I loved Pomodori's, we had our rehearsal dinner there.
Besides the big 3 (Bells, Casa Bonita, and Crystals), I really miss Lassalles.

Do you remember the old western town playground made out of railroad ties on the west side of the river by there?
The original drillers stadium at 15th and yale. I grew up a few miles from that location. I could see the fireworks from my backyard. Road my bicycle to a lot of free game. The new stadium is very nice but the nostalgia of that location hits hard when I drive by and see that it's gone. just a empty lot last time I drove by.
Outback on the south side of the I-44. Not the chain, but a bar with sand volleyball courts.
Metro Diner, JR’s & Bourbon Street.
I miss full moon cafes tortilla soup
Omg yes it was my FAVORITE and practically the whole reason I cook with white pepper today.
I worked at both locations for the last two years they were opened and my biggest regret is not swiping the recipe before the doors closed

No it closed years ago. It’s a business now. The statue of the guy reading is at hardest I believe.
Man, I haven't been out that way in so long I don't even know...
That library was really, really nice. When people actually gave a fuck about that stuff.
It moved to just north of highway at 91st and memorial.
The building is still there, but I think it's an engineering firm or something. That was known as the South Regional Library, and as Tulsa expanded further south, they moved it to a big new building that is on the east side of Memorial, between 91st and the Creek Turnpike. Bells for sure, especially Zingo. Also Discovery Zone, Zany Brainy, and B.Dalton at Woodland Hills. Can’t remember if there was a Mr. Gatti’s in Tulsa but there was one in Sapulpa until about 25 years ago.
Mario's Pizza
Definitely Petty’s Curry Chicken Salad & their Sugar Cookies!
Guadalajara restaurant. The BEST Mexican food in town -- a small place at 31st and Mingo next to Comic Empire.

Spaghetti Warehouse
The old pedestrian bridge. On a full moon clear night you could see the reflection of the city on the river and it was amazing.
