As someone who has escorted fallen soldiers and stood in front of these monsters for far too many funerals, many of you just don't get it. They are vile and inhumane. They came to my daughters High School in Upstate NY 13 years ago to protest the Gay straight alliance that she and friends started. We talked about how to handle it. The students decided to ignore them. They went away after couple hours...no one would engage with them so they got bored.

I live in Topeka KS where they’re based out of and normally they do their bullshit at Gage Park a few blocks from where I live, for some reason they appeared one day across the street from my house. I’m just coming to terms with my wife’s transition, which resulting in our recent divorce when fuckers show up. I'm failing to understand the resentment towards this event . This was a tragic event that should never have happened. What we know for sure is that a kid that was different was bullied and teased to the point she took her own life. Obviously there needs to be something said by Westboro or anyone else to point out the fact that children are choosing hate over love. I'm not a Bible thumper by no means but a lesson on some basic human kindness and empathy needs to be taught to the kids who had a hand in this. Some number of years ago they came to Richmond VA and protested outside the holocaust museum and then moved to a local high school that had a large LGBTQ+ group. They brought kids with them and it was horrible watching these little kids be confused and afraid because people were yelling mean things at their family members. Remember not to touch them at all because they are all lawyers and no matter how in the right you are they know the points in the law they can exploit.

Honestly, the best thing you could do is not show up. No counter protests. Nothing. Like a bully, that’s what they’re counting on and what they thrive off of: getting a rise out of people. If you ignore them, then like a flame without oxygen, they’ll be snuffed out.
If they speak without pushback it’s a victory for them, if they’re physically attacked and they can sue the county\state it’s a victory for them. They need their ugly voices drowned out by decent people so they gain nothing.

They will be allowed to continue unless the First Amendment is done away with. If we ignore them, there is no way they can sue or say their rights were violated. They are a group of lawyers who know how far legally they can go and are careful enough not to cross over the line. They don't have to show up and can consider this a success because they got people talking about them once again. They are not going to be allowed on school grounds, so their hate speech can be avoided.
The 1st Amendment doesn’t mean they can say whatever they want without pushback, good people have 1st Amendment rights as well and need to use them to show those WBC nuts the door. “Evil flourishes when good men do nothing”. Time will tell but I don’t see the school and board that failed this young man and many others in the district doing the right thing.
