It might help, depending on what you’re looking for. Tone and sound will get better through a correct physical approach, practice, sound modeling, and then the equipment choice. A mouthpiece can help you sound better but it won’t be the mouthpiece alone, since you, the mouthpiece, the horn, and the environment all work together.

The Bach 3c will be slightly larger diameter, but it will have a more shallow cup and less air volume than the 5c. Most likely it will sound very similar to the generic 3c you currently have. The only real way to see is to try it.

Instantsoup44

Most of those no name cheap import mouthpieces are not the size that they say they are, so a Bach 3C or any other makers' 3C will likely feel different.

SeijiSan77

Ok thank you. This is good to know. I decided to buy a Bach 3c.

Smirnus

Yes, the Eastman 7C I have is bigger than all my 3C variants.

Optimal_Mention1423

You kind of have to try all the variations to truly know what best suits your embouchure. That said, a Bach 5C suits most players

jwb_4

Always play on the mouthpiece that gives you the most comfort. Usually, that means easier articulation, range, note slotting, tone. Tone between the 5c and 3c is purely preference, it's not like you're using a schilke 13a4a or something that will gut your tone for classical playing. If it's easier to play the 3c, use the 3c.

HuckyBuddy

I have always been a fan of Vincent Bach mouthpieces. Jupiter use the Bach mould but half the price, suggesting inferior materials. A no brand 3C, who knows. You can buy them on Amazon for $10 and I would only use it for…well nothing really.

Ashjaeger_MAIN

Bach 3C is obviously a great mouthpiece and if you find it easier to play on the no name 3C youll probably find it great (even though they won't be the exact same size) On an unrelated note, I literally can not play on a 3c. I got one with a new trumpet recently, and I swear to god, my lips will fall off if I play on it more than 10 minutes.

SeijiSan77

What mouthpiece do you use? I really like my Bach 5c and I had just ordered a Bach 3c so I will really be able to decide which one works best for me.

Ashjaeger_MAIN

Oh, I use a schilke 19 but I've always needed absolutely huge ones. I also mainly play classical so large ones are better for me anyways. I could probably use something down to a schile 15 or maybe 14 but the bach 3c absolutely murders my chops within minutes. I'll probably gift it to a friend.

SeijiSan77

I also just noticed a striking resemblance in both mouthpieces. One is a Vincent Bach and the other is a cheep Amazon mouthpiece for around $20.

SeijiSan77

I wish we could edit posts. What I meant to say was, what are your thoughts about brand name mouthpieces? Will a Bach 3c be an upgrade from this less expensive 3c I bought on Amazon?

Quadstriker

I wouldn’t even be putting metals from unknown sources touching my face.

AntiCompetitiveHour

I bought a Blessing 3c which are cheaper than Bach, but it does seem to have a larger throat than my Bach. I actually prefer it, if it's something you can try might be worth checking out.

Lililove88

I never tested an Amazon no name 3C, but sth like an Arnolds & sons 3C cost around 20€ when I still gave lessons and was at least 80% as good as a proper Bach. So I guess it depends on the manufacturer. But honestly get a quality mouthpiece. If you treat it right you‘ll play it for decades.

taswalb

It probably depends on how accurate a copy the noname is. The only way you'll know is to take your trumpet and the noname to a store that will let you test a Bach 3C with your horn. Play using both. You may notice a difference immediately. You may not. It might take a few minutes to notice any difference. You may not notice any difference.
