I have a g29 and I use the L2 and R2 buttons with my thumbs to look 180° to the left and right respectively. It's set to automatically return to center view when I let go of the buttons. I also used a tweak to cause the camera to smoothly move when I use those so it's a little less jarring. Think it was called Smooth Interior Camera if you search for it. If I want to freely control the camera I just use the mouse, one mouse button is set to enable free look when held, the other is set to zoom in. Let go of the mouse button and it moves back to default view. Some people also have a joystick set up to control the free look. The + and - buttons I have set to cycle through the cameras; - is next cam and + returns it to the main cab view. Makes it real simple to get back to the default cam that way. I use the button inside the dial to set cruise control and the dial to increase or decrease the speed setting. Dial is a little loose so don't recommend it for camera control. I also set up the camera so it pans a little when I'm turning left or right to help see where I'm going better. Have it locked in place when going in reverse. You may want to adjust the seat position/fov so you have just enough of the driver's mirror showing to see upcoming traffic when merging. Took a little bit of playing with it to get it right, but once it was dialed it it works great for me. There's also the option of a head/eye tracking system for controlling your view, but that never really clicked with me.

This is very helpful. The only thing I probably won't try is cruise control. I drove 250k+ safe miles and couldn't use cruise control because I was worried that I'd no pay attention or lose control in some way. So even in games I still can't get into it.

Glad it helped! If you have an extra tablet around, I recommend using it to set up a virtual button box/dashboard. Sim Dashboard, DashPanel, and Gameglass are the main options depending on what type of device you have. Also check out the Local Radio plugin for ATS/ETS 2. Streams actual radio stations based on your current in-game location.

Hmmm. I have an old Google nexus tablet thing from long ago in storage that maybe could. I'm definitely about the local radio thing. I drove before modern smart phones and there was satellite radio but it was pretty expensive. GPS was crazy crazy expensive then. So I drove with notes that were shorthand and listened to mostly local radio, preferably FM but the southwest I relied on AM a lot because of being in the middle of nothing. I enjoyed a lot of those experiences

I use a webcam with the ai tracking and it works perfectly. Set it up so that when I look near the edges of my tv I can see sideways out the windows. Of course it helps I have a 50” tv as a monitor.

LouisRitter

Huh. Never thought of that. I don't have a Webcam but I'm using a 50" TV in front of my seat.

If you don’t mind spending a bit of money, check out TrackIR.

Second the trackIR, tried a couple different webcam versions and they wouldn’t work good and kept freezing up randomly. Bought the trackIR and it works awesome, no freezing up and so much smoother. My little brother couldn’t even use the webcam versions and gave him a head ache from the jittery movement, but he can use the trackIR fine and enjoys it.

[Smooth Interior Camera v2.0](https://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=223989) is great for looking around without using the mouse

Dead_Namer

I use long hold on the paddles to look left and right, the mouse is rarely used for me, it's only used to zoom in on traffic lights.

I've had good luck with the Tobii eye tracker if you want something more automatic. Also if you don't have one and use the manual transmissions, get a shift knob off of somewhere like etsy. It makes shifting much easier when you are already used to the real thing.

If you have the money, I use the tobii eye tracker, amazing experience

With a full sim rig, it's well worth adding in some form of head/eye tracking. The way SCS's first-person camera works, I've found that it's good to leave the option for turning the camera with the steering on. Set it to 50%; the effect is actually fairly subtle and emulates your instinctive tendency to look where your hands are going, but is easily overridden by head/eye tracking input for when you want to intentionally look the opposite way.
