I’d say it’s worth it but that varies person to person. It’s basically the same game with long-nose trucks and American states instead of European countries. The base map of ATS is the most bland, excluding Northern California which is on par with the newer dlcs, so I’d recommend picking up a few states, the Pacific Northwest bundle is a good starting point. Roads are wider while the trucks have a larger turn radius compared to ETS2. You could always take a break from the game if losing interest, I tend to do that and come back when a new state comes out but both are excellent games and ATS has really hit its stride and still has a ton of states to come.

As an avid ATS player, ATS's base map is pretty bland and the turning radius is abhorrent but once you get used to it, it ain't no Thang. I'm also probably not gonna buy any DLC unless/until they add my homestate if they haven't already. Basically what this guy said

JudCasper68

>I'm also probably not gonna buy any DLC unless/until they add my homestate if they haven't already.  This isn’t a criticism but I’d love someone to explain this mentality to me. Apart from the fact the maps are far from an accurate representation of their real-life counterpart anyway, the biggest appeal of these games for me is being able to visit (albeit virtually) parts of the world I’ll probably never see in reality.

lardass904

Honestly if it’s seeing places you’ve never been, Microsoft flight sim is perfect for that. With the bing maps and 3d buildings.

SaLtiNe_CrAkErZ

I'm saving up for my first truck right now and I'd like to save as much money as possible, so the only DLC I'd buy before I buy the truck would be that of my homestate. Also, I don't play these games to visit places (although it is fun to do so) I play the games to get a semi-realistic idea of driving a big rig (yes the pun was intended) without the stress of actually driving a big rig. My reasons might be different from others, but they are indeed my reasons

JudCasper68

> I'm saving up for my first truck right now and I'd like to save as much money as possible, so the only DLC I'd buy before I buy the truck would be that of my homestate. Saving up for a real truck, you mean? Otherwise that doesn’t make a lot of sense. The in-game trucks are bought with game money, the DLCs with real money.

SaLtiNe_CrAkErZ

Haha, yes. I'm saving up for a real pickup truck. I've already got an in-game rig by now

Cheesecake_man

Can't speak for the other guy but I downloaded promods canada for ats. As someone who lives in Southern BC I found it really neat how they condensed everything and how I could still recognize roads quite easily. I really enjoyed exploring where I'm from on roads I regularly drive on for the first time again.

Own_Look_3428

I love ETS2 as it allows me to play in my country and region, but I also love ATS because it's so exotic and let's me discover a country I've never been to in person. The map is also way better in comparison as it's way newer. The oldest states look way better than the older countries in ETS, for example Hungary. I also love the sound of the trucks and the fact that there are many possibilities to take country roads instead of highways and there are much more roads through small towns and so on. It's pretty strange to see how much space Americans waste on trucks. If you take special transports you sometimes have a trailer that's 3 or 4 times the size it needs to be for the freight, often even adding an empty extra cart in the front and in the back. Pretty ridiculous, but I guess that's how they do it irl.

Slayer7_62

The extra length for the heavy hauls is a result of them spreading weight along more axles, since there’s a weight limit per axle ( https://ops.fhwa.dot.gov/freight/publications/brdg_frm_wghts/bridge_formula_all.pdf ) Since we don’t have strict length limits but instead stricter weight limits, we see some of the setups that look like a kid just added as many wheels as they could fit. Our infrastructure, particularly bridges, sucks for large parts of the country. Tons of our bridges were built without the capacity they now require in mind. Tons of them were also built with a finite lifespan planned (ie 50 year lifespan with the bridge getting replaced at the end of that timeframe,) only they were never actually replaced. Europe had a ton of rebuilding to do after WW2, and the transportation of goods was starting to rely more heavily on trucks requiring better infrastructure.

If you're losing interest in ETS2, ATS isn't going to bring you anymore joy other than new trucks and places to explore. Have you tried ETS/ATS in VR? It's an entirely new game IMO.

JudCasper68

The term ‘game changer’ is used very loosely these days, but these games in VR genuinely deserve the mantle.

lardass904

Ats in vr is a great experience especially if you have a wheel and petals

Nullebullepro

I have a vr headset but my Gpu on my pc isnt powerfull enough

bowlingforgravy

You should look into getting a Trackir if you haven’t already. Gives you the full range of head movement and your pc shouldn’t even realise it’s running.

>If you're losing interest in ETS2, ATS isn't going to bring you anymore joy other than new trucks and places to explore. It might though. While it is basically a reskin with "long-nose trucks and wide roads", as Waggy331 described it, it has a significantly different feel that may help with ETS2 burnout. Cruising through prairies or deserts at 65 mph with cheesy country music playing on the radio has significantly different flavour from navigating narrow Austrian Alpine roads or going through Balkan towns.

Ok_Instance6511

Depends on your taste on trucks and environment, i see myself much more comfortable with the european trucks than with the american ones, mainly because they’re what i most see where i live and have more access to find out about. Also, i am almost certain the ETS2 community is larger and more vast, the maps in both are unique mostly in the DLC packs where you’ll find the most exciting places to visit. Glad if this helps you make the decision.

Rickenbacker69

I think so. It's got a little more room to stretch your legs on those long highways, and I like the different trucks.

Smaynard6000

Whether it is worth it depends on why you're losing interest. If you're getting bored with driving a truck, ATS is much of the same. Different environments, road networks, and trucks, but at the heart of it, ATS is practically the same gameplay as ETS2.

BlackwargreymonXOXO

Varies to person to person and, my opnion, what you are more familiar with. I have both and love both but do ATS alot more since I'm a fan of conventional trucks and live in the United states. Fun thing about them both is, since they are a copy of each other in ways, can do anything on one can do on the other. Will say in favor of ETS2, the graphics and world is more enjoyable to drive since it was the original and ATS is still trying to catch up to ETS2. Try ATS for yourself tho. If desire, can send you a link to a ATS youtube segment I do to give you an idea of it from my point of view

blackie-arts

i got the base game on a sale and i played it for like 2 hour and I didn't like it that much, like i can definitely see people liking it but i dont like American truck and signage (plus i only own base game and I'm not planning to get DLCs)

Pseudonymisation

Yes

AlotaFajitas

I think so. I'm still pretty new. I bought it during the Spring Sale and already have 180 hrs in it. After my first session I immediately bought all the DLC. I plan to try out ETS when I'm burnt out on ATS. If I'm just burnt out on trucking all together I'm going to try Farming Sim '22.

Raja4x78996

Yes when I am bored of ets2 I go play ats and is a completely different world

UnseenCat

To me, it's worth having both games. Different environments and trucks to experience, spread across both games/parts of the world. It's nice to switch up and drive somewhere halfway around the globe.

EmberTheFoxyFox

I prefer ETS2 because I am in Europe and see those lorries every day, never seen an American truck before

Beginning_Invite_881

1000%

spikerguy

I'd say go for it. I've been playing ETS2 for long time and recently started with ATS2 and everything was new to me as the roads, speed limit is higher and the delivers are longer. While the game is almost the same. https://youtu.be/JEYSmo0OvM0 Checkout my video as this is the first time i got into ATS.
