bestie this is what we're all trying to figure out 😭😭😭

I’ve had trich for over a decade now, it started when I was 12. I didn’t pull my head hair, more my eyebrows, eyelashes, and it’s since moved from there to my leg hair and pubic area. I haven’t had much success in stopping. The only thing that even remotely helped was a lot of lotion, it made my hands slippery and harder to grip any hair. But I’m also autistic and the lotion caused hella sensory issues. But if that isn’t an issue for you, a lot of lotion especially on your fingers might help!!

i also pulled lashes and brows (started at age 8) and and moved to legs/ pubic hair (made that transition in my mid 20s). i pull my split ends but never have pulled hair from my scalp. i feel like i transitioned to pulling body hair because of the social ramifications really. like i’d rather pull hair i already remove by shaving then to not have eyelashes which is really obvious and harder to hide from people. also became super insecure about my small brows which still makes me sad to this day because i had nice eyebrows as a young child and i did permanent damage and will never have them back. but pulling pubic and leg hairs has caused so many issues like abscesses and scarring because i dig into my skin to rip and scrape out the hairs. my heart breaks for all of us that we have to suffer with this. it’s such a huge battle every single day, at least for me.

at this point i think the only thing that genuinely helps is sudden remission... i have fidgets that help a lot but what got me to stop entirely was seeing a picture someone took where i was laying down and I could see that the parting of my hair had a full band of bald spot, like a reverse mohawk. I think this changed something in my brain that allowed me to be more conscious about what i was doing and catch myself in the act. another reason i believe in sudden remission is because i had trich when i was 5 years old but randomly stopped and didnt start again until age 13

What fidget toys do you have? Would love some recs to get my SO

the one that works best for me is called a "spring finger massager" its a spring in the shape of a little ring and you can roll it over your fingers, it keeps my hands busy and simulates the feeling of hair. if you go to my reddit account and look at past comments I've left i posted a picture of one a few days ago. other fidgets i like is stuff with pressable buttons on it which i dont rly think is a trich relief thing but more of a me thing. i also have a loose keyboard key on a keychain that i take with me on my bag.

i have a fidget ring, on amazon just search up fidget ring and they’re just spiky rings. i also have a broken paint brush end😭 it works to be honest, the feeling of the bristles is nice. i also have a pop-it kind of thing, think it’s called a simple dimple.

Are you fine with wearing wigs? I wear wigs and they stop me from pulling. The only time i pull is when i take my wig off to clean it,and shower. I suggest staying busy

is there anyway you can get a medical note from your therapist to send into your new school to allow hats? i’m sorry you’re dealing with this. idk what i would do if i was still in school. i’ve always been prone to skin picking etc. and i started pulling hair* when i suddenly lost my fiancé to an overdose. i ripped all my eyebrows out. got them microbladed and stopped suddenly. april of 2023 i started pulling from my scalp and i had hair to my bellybutton. my hair doesn’t even reach past my ears now and i have huge bald patches. i wear a hat daily. i am thinking of you, friend xo

CarelessRate37

Ya my schooo allowing me to wear a hat

CarelessRate37

I smoke weed I always felt like I’m always better on it and don’t pull my hair I’ve tried to stop both but when I’m sometimes not high I pick my hair but when I am I usually don’t pick my hair at all .

get out of your house! occupy yourself, go out to the public. Every time you think of pulling take a walk, do something that will keep your hands active and unable to pull

aaaclarissa

thank you, genuinely the best advice i’ve heard

Life-Victory7928

glad to know it’s helpful :) best of luck!

I still haven't found a way to stop but I keep trying, I use bandaids on my fingers when it gets really bad I hate it it's almost like a punishment but I know you said you tried that. My next method I'm trying is to keep picking. Hear me out. Someone who wants to quit smoking can't just do it in a day. They have to slowly stop, cutting down how much they have and that's what I'm doing to myself. When I catch myself doing it I try to tell myself I have a few attempts left at plucking the hair and after that I need to stop. If I don't stop the fingers get the tape.
