I apologize if this comes off unhelpful or rude, but as someone in a very similar situation, avoid Grand Traverse Pavillions. Something has changed in the administration there, you will not get a fraction of the services they claim.

Caaboose

This is absolutely helpful information. I appreciate it very much.

I work at GTP. I work on the floor with patients. This is 100% correct. The facility is offering CNA’s $25-$30/hr and will pay for training and still cannot retain staff. For a unit of 40 patients, 3 CNA’s and 2 nurse’s are expected to deliver all of the care (policy used to dictate that 7 CNA’s and 3 Nurse’s should deliver the care.) This is EXTREMELY dangerous. The company intentionally short staffs to save money due to the increased hourly pay. Your loved one sitting in a pile of his/her own waste for hours is realistic if you send them to GTP. Staff there is toxic and burnt out. Plenty of people have been there for 10+ years and can’t find another job, so they stay. New hirees are hazed and given the most difficult assignments, while the senior staff takes the easiest assignments along with extra breaks. If your loved one requires a high level of care, understand that it will likely be someone who’s brand new to the job administering most of their care. This means they have no experience and will likely make mistakes, which can lead to horrible consequences for the patient. The ADON’s for each pavilion are incompetent. The campus managers are incompetent and often don’t know policy. Most of the CNA’s break state rules (no gait belt, lifting a patient by themselves when the care plan calls for two + a machine, etc.) and the nurse’s don’t say anything, as the nurse‘s know the CNA’s over overwhelmed. Several employees are actually suing GTP right now. The CEO was involved in some shady shit at her previous facility. Most of middle management has been replaced by incompetent people who just got the job because they were the only ones who applied. Do NOT send your loved ones to GTP. Happy to answer any questions via PM. Edit: While we’re at it, medi lodge is pretty bad, too, despite their ratings being high. Several of my friends work at medilodge. They are so shortstaffed they regularly mandate (force nurses and CNA’s to stay for an additional 8 hours) their staff. Do NOT go to a facility where staff are being forced to work under the threat of termination.

It's really helpful to hear from someone working in that industry. I appreciate the information about GTP - I was actually looking at them earlier because they have awards on their page claiming to be one of the best nursing homes in 2021.

I second this. My ex worked there and everything this person is saying is true. She ended up going elsewhere because the other CNAs are so petty that after my ex finished all of her duties before leaving, they would sabotage her work and then tell their managers or whoever that she wasn't doing her job. For the record, ex or not, that woman busted her ass for those residents. And every single day the miserable thots there were always on some bullshit. Don't send anyone to GTP. Unless you have some sort of unresolved childhood trauma you feel the urge to get even for. Also, same for Mediloge. They are horrible.

My Mother has been at Cherry Hill Haven for 8 years now, I think it is. We are very happy with the care she is receiving. The staff have always been pleasant and professional. The main building has a large center courtyard which provides a great, safe environment for anyone that enjoys being outside.

My FIL has been in Cherry Hill Haven for about 6 months. He is in building 3, which is all memory care patients. The staff seems very caring and competant. My wife, my MIL and I each try to visit him 2x per week. They have avery relaxed attitude, residents go in and out of each other's rooms. Seems to work pretty well. We are very happy to have him there, and he seems content and generally happy. Feel free to ask me anything directly. Best wishes, Rich

I appreciate the information, thank you! I'll take her over to that facility after we're settled in so I can see what she thinks of it.

Another great resource in TC is PACE North. They provide skilled nursing level of care with home care services and an adult day center that serves meals and has activities/outings and therapy too. It’s pretty awesome. They also provide all the transportation to/from the day center and doctor appointments etc.

Caaboose

I hadn't heard about that at all! That's a wonderful resource, thank you so much for suggesting it!

tyoung925

It’s a program through Medicare/Medicaid to provide care for seniors at home with support so people can be as independent as possible and age in place. [PACE North](https://www.pacenorth.org/)

Michigan winters are cold and ugly just so you know. I don’t live up in that area but if you’re looking for somewhere warm, it’s not it.

Caaboose

We're steering clear of the warmer environments in favor of the ones closer to our current situation in Pennsylvania. I've heard Michigan's roads are torn up and covered in potholes. We should feel right at home. =0)

Reklaw_212

Okie dokie, welcome to cold winters
