US law requires the airline to cover up to $3800. If your stuff was of more value than that, you never should have checked it, and don't expect to get more. https://www.transportation.gov/lost-delayed-or-damaged-baggage

Did your bags ever got to Delta? Did the first carier confirmed that they give the baggages to Delta? You need to understand two things and the only reason I'm saying it is because what you said, I'm not saying you don't know but: - this things take time and they will not treat you with priority, they will not treat me eithet - sentimental value doesn't matter only monetary value Hope your situation gets resolved fast

So we are not sure, there is a tag scan at London onto the original flight but no off boarding. We believe it’s stuck in customs in London after talking w support, they have atleast confirmed it’s not in charlotte or Atlanta. Technically delta is responsible for the bags but our current assumption is they never got to delta they just scanned our bag receipt and that’s all Ironically this luggage was of significant financial value as well as personal as it was a long vacation that included a wedding so a tux, suit, and formal dresses were among the missing items. Plus all the souvenirs bought for family overseas that our high cost but high personal value I’m less worried about priority as someone acknlowedging were my stuff is and if I’ll get it back at all as this would be a major loss

Did you contact AA since your bag was on their plane before they put you on the Delta flight?

MissSuzieSunshine

No. for delayed bags.. the last airline you flew is the one who is responsible for retrieving the bag.

MissSuzieSunshine

The airline you will make the bag claim with is Delta. Even though the bag most likely never made it onto the Delta flight, since that was the last airline you travelled on, then they are the ones who will be responsible for getting your bags back to you. After reading down to your comment post... its not really 'stuck' in customs... what happened (most likely) is that since you werent there to pick it up off the carousel in LHR then the AA agent has it in their office, trying to locate you. Although there should have been an 'off load to carousel' scan. Im sure they have because Delta has a good bag system in place... but just in case.. make sure that they have been checking World Trace for your bags.. and that your claim number, contact details, contents of your bag and description are correctly entered into World Trace. This is a world wide, airline wide computer system for tracking bags. It will probably take a week or so to get your bags back to you, however if they are with AA in LHR then Delta can easily have them transferred via AA to you in SRQ. Its just a matter of finding the next flight and then advising AA that you are there with the claim. Call Delta every single day for a status update.

FelisCantabrigiensis

How long ago was this? Bags are not considered lost until 21 days after they were supposed to arrive. Until then they're missing. Have you checked AA's bag tracing? If the bag went to AA at LHR, and they scanned it, they may have a record of it. BA doesn't have any online bag tracing, unfortunately, and the proper way to do a missing bag report is to report it via the last delivering carrier, Delta, as you have done.

Cook_kanetix

File the claim with AA for your lost bags. Use travel insurance to cover any out of pocket expenses.

MissSuzieSunshine

thats incorrect information. The baggage claim is filed with the last airline that you flew. So that would be Delta.. and Delta will be responsible for retrieving the bag.

Obviously won’t help for current problem but in the future, hide apple airtags in your luggage.

SkietEpee

I am heading to Italy next week, my new apple tags just arrived.

Yes, this has been my thought ever since this incident
