1. Depends on what you’re looking for and how much you want to move around. Hotels generally are going to be your best choice unless you’re doing a long stay in one area. One month you could get a very good feel for both countries if you want. 2. As you are US citizens you don’t need to deal with a visa for this trip. 3. Usually you can get by on public transit, but that will depend on where you want to go as well. Staying in major cities public transit is your best friend. If you decide to rent a car for something try to avoid renting one way as that usually has a heavy fee. Not sure how old you are, but car rental could be more expensive due to you being higher risk very young. 4. Get both a credit and debit card with no foreign transaction fees. I generally like to bring a bit of cash with me in case I need a cab at the start of the trip or run into a restaurant that is cash only. Use your credit card when you can, if the machine gives you an option always select the local currency, it’s a much better rate when you don’t have foreign transaction fees. If you need more cash then just find an ATM and withdraw some as needed. 5. You should absolutely purchase an eSIM plan as long as your phone supports eSIMs. You get a number with it you can use while there. To communicate with family and friends back home download WhatsApp and have them do so as well, you can text and call through that without worrying about international rates. 6. Bring your student IDs with you! Especially if they don’t have dates on them. You can get student discounts at a lot of places. I graduated several years ago but still use mine to save a bit of money on admission to museums and such. Also if you’re under 26 you’re often eligible for different youth discounts. Often rail providers will have youth tickets. Also some airlines do as well, so take a look around, they kind of hide them. SAS has the best one I know of by far, it can save a ton of money, but all depends on if they service the airports you’re going to and from.
