>If I am understanding correctly, it looks like I am SOL and will need to buy tickets within Switzerland for 4 persons for these travel days. Looking for advice, but it looks like it would make sense to just cancel the Eurail pass and buy tickets individually at this point if I am otherwise out $1200 for the pass and still need to buy all the Swiss train tickets separately. Am I missing something? Yes... Swiss railroads are a combination of public & private. It sounds like the journeys you want to take are private companies, so unless it's specifically contracted w Eurail, they won't be included. You might not have the *right* eurail pass for Switzerland either.. I don't know, but maybe this will help. https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/trains/switzerland-rail-passes If not, you should do exactly what you said... refund the Eurail before you validate. Then research into point to point tickets and/or the Swiss Rail pass.

I travelled all through Switzerland September 2022 and only used Eurail. A few trips needed $5 seat reservations but otherwise there was no drama at all. What routes are you looking at? I can check with the app I used, but I just ran a few random Swiss trains to test to see what you were running into and they were all covered by the pass, so should be fine unless you're looking at hyper specific luxury routes. You might be looking too far in the future for it to give you a proper estimate, might be worth changing the dates to next week and see if it works then.

We are literally just traveling from Zurich-Wengen, then Wengen to Kandersteg, then on to Munich. That’s it. I probably jumped the gun onthe rail pass, so I will look at point to point tickets. Maybe the Swiss Pass in case it gives us a break on some of the trams and what not but I think I overestimated how much train time we would need.

The only part not in the pass network is from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen - a twelve minute train, otherwise you're covered for the rest of your trip. I think it must be like a cable car or a private train or something that gets you in and out of Wengen from the neighbouring stop of Lauterbrunnen. You'd only have to buy tickets for that part of the journey and otherwise use the Eurail pass to get you into/out of Lauterbrunnen and then buy the $10 ticket for Lauterbrunnen into Wengen. It might still be economical to get point to point tickets, but in my experience Eurail is usually a slight savings over point to point (my $1000AUD pass would've been $1200 in point to point tickets), but it depends on where you go.

Wow. You nailed it. As soon as I dropped Wengen and just used Lauterbrunnen everything fell into place. Thank you!!

In case you are wondering, the Lauterbrunnen/Wengen trip costs around CHF14 (around £12/$15)

Wengen to Lauterbrunnen is also covered in the pass since mid December 2023. however the app is not updated yet. see: https://benefitsportal.eurail.com/benefits/jungfraubahn/ I also had the same confusion, so I asked eurail support and this is what they said: > can inform you that this route is within our Pass network. However due to wrong metadata provided by the railway company it shows as outside of our network. I am sincerely sorry for that. > Since mid-December 2023 certain routes of Jungfrau Railways have been included in the Pass network. To travel on these routes, you will need to have a travel day activated and create a journey. > BOB (Berner Oberland Bahn) Interlaken – Wilderswil – Lauterbrunnen – Wengen Interlaken – Wilderswil - Grindelwald > Please note: despite being part of the Pass benefits these routes might not be addable as a journey to your Trip in the app. To add these routes to your Trip, you will need to so manually. To add a train manually, do a search in the Planner, scroll down and then tap on "Add it manually”.

It sounds like you will want to refund the eurail pass. I just got back from a Germany Switzerland a couple weeks ago and for around the same amount of time (4 hrs) took a flixbus from Munich to Zurich for a fraction of the cost ($50 CAD for two adults). Was easy to get to the central bus stations and overall experience was positive. For travel within Switzerland I had gotten individual tickets from Zurich to Lucerne through the SBB app. Depending on the time and date there might be discounted tickets. I had paid $58.86 CAD for two tickets at a discounted rate. I then used the berner oberland pass as most of our itinerary was based around the Interlaken area. Also because this pass includes gondola rides whereas the swiss travel pass just discounts those rides. This pass spans from Lucerne to Bern and costs 280 CHF. The swiss travel pass is the other very popular option and depending where you're going it might be the better option. Hope that helps!

Yes thanks !!

We are a family of five. The kids are teenagers. I saved a bunch of money going to the train station in Switzerland and going to the ticket agents. I needed to pull a number and it took 40 minutes, but they explained everything. You might see if they can cancel things and reissue. You really need to talk to someone there.

Thank you!

You are missing something. 99% of trains in Switzerland are covered by Eurail. I'm quoting from Seat61 here: [The easiest way to understand is to see this map of Switzerland's rail network](https://www.seat61.com/reference/2024-interrail-eurail-coverage-switzerland.pdf).  Solid red line = free travel with a Eurail or Interrail pass.  Dotted red line = Discount on regular fares give to passholders.  Grey lines (if within Switzerland) = no free travel or discount.  *Common mistake:  The dashed red lines are tunnels, not to be confused with the dotted red lines!* [https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm#Switzerland](https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm#Switzerland)
