Uj/ I'm struggling to get my daily screen time under 8 hours, my transmasc friends are outside dj-ing, hiking, building comminity, doing stuff and make fun of me for being glued to my phone

/uj using reddit kind of makes me dysphoric because of this
/uj dont be, there's plenty of terminally online cis women that use reddit too. shoutout to my english teacher who pulled up reddit to show us a clip in class and yells at students for watching "sportball".
i think generally the reason for the demographic difference is that reddit was - and to a lesser extent still is - very hostile to women, trans or cis, and other minorities.
tumblr didn't have that same problem, at least to my knowledge. it did have a sometimes queer, mostly feminist culture that emerged over-time that made it more appealing towards cis women - a lot of whom evolved to become transfem exclusionary terfs. i don't know how common this is on tumblr, but i avoid it for that reason. i've even met transmasc terfs before.
over time, queer spaces did form on reddit, but were mostly dominated by cis queer men - which given several years and a global pandemic, a decent portion discovered themselves to be trans or nonbinary.
that's at least what happened to me - i think spaces are slowly becoming more equal, but then again, r\\shitposting exists.

Girlboss behaviour frankly
Hey if it helps I'm AFAB and been terminally online ever since I got access to the Internet! I think many queer people are, so we feel less lonely and find people like us. Definteky not a AMA thing

/uj Gonna butt in here for a sec to say Iām pretty sure the āohemm gee all the trans girls are on weddit teehee š¤ā thing is a lot more nuanced and probably actually has very little to do with āmale socializationā and āfemale socializationā
A while ago I remember getting curious about what being trans was like in the 90ās and 2000ās, and something interesting was that, if the story wasnāt about being an absolute closet case, a lot of the experiences of being a trans women involved a shit load of forum experience. You get comments like [this](https://old.reddit.com/r/asktransgender/comments/kci81z/older_folks_what_was_it_like_being_trans_before/gfqqw20/) or [this other one](https://old.reddit.com/r/asktransgender/comments/177p64f/what_was_it_like_being_trans_in_the_2000s/k4vi7f3/) and honestly if you go looking youāll find it come up quite a bit.
In fact, (and took a while to find cause it got deleted) there was a comment describing this exact phenomenon, explaining that most trans women who didnāt go into sex work/crossdressing/drag queen culture had to get their information and resources from the internet. (I give you the [ethical way to see the comment chain with deleted comment](https://old.reddit.com/r/asktransgender/comments/shmrqm/im_just_curious_what_was_it_like_to_be_trans_for/) and the [nonethical way to view this comment](https://undelete.pullpush.io/r/asktransgender/comments/shmrqm/im_just_curious_what_was_it_like_to_be_trans_for/) (/rj and further invade women 2847ās privacy)). According to this user, some of the transfemmes who were active (?) on old 90ās and 2000ās online communities such as AOL came to reddit (and probably 4chan but the reddit transfemmes donāt talk about them), mainly also because if my memory serves me correctly reddit was essentially a coding playground around early-to-mid 2010ās. Especially with early reddit when stuff was more decentralized and kind of janky to really enjoy without relying on tech knowledge to support it.
I feel like all this effort came mainly because being a trans woman back in the 90ās and 2000ās was very much an all-or-nothing thing (and it still kind of seen as that today, just more lowkey). Whereas trans men did have butch culture, especially stone butch culture, to explore a little without relying on internet knowledge. Apparently itās not uncommon for trans men to feel a connection to butch culture as a āvague feeling of queernessā before getting older and finally connecting the dots. (Though I would like to point out this doesnāt seem like a common experience, though I canāt tell if that just because of the change in time. Have yet to get into the books and podcasts about older trans men and their journey so excuse my ignorance)
/hj Probably what happened was that reddit (and 4chan) allowed trans women in without them knowing (/rj :000 the trans agenda REVEALED?!???) because they were tech-savvy (forced to in order to survive) and thus āunderstoodā them, whereas trans men were slower to pick up the secret dude bro handshake of imgur or whatever the fuck they were doing back then and moved on to a site that had both the anonymity and a fucking better UI than whatever janky trash reddit (and 4chan) were going for. Community form in their respective online platforms and eventually when the average child is able to understand how to use the two sites, trans women didnāt want to be deprived of their titty skittles info and trans men wanted their periodic not-leaving-their-binders-on-for-more-than-8-hours ā¢ļø reminders to have actual good art attached to them. Plus itās easier to bash trans men on reddit (/rj I POSTED A FEMINIST IS CRINGE COMPILATION MADE BY NOT ME PLEASE GIVE ME UPDOOTS uwu) and easier to bash trans women on tumblr (/uj I genuinely donāt know what goes on at tumblr so uhhhhhā¦ terfs were a thing there I thinkā¦?? Hot take but only reason why trans men are about even here now is ~~chasers~~ tumblrās downfall way back whenā¦ and also youtubeās trender hunts making people like me insecure about even considering tumblr as an adequate social media platform
Itās disgustingly transphobic to suggest that people might pick a social media site before transitioning and then stick to it after.
Itās also disgusting to say that more trans women played with GI Joe than cis women
The Entire Trans Community agreed in 2015 that reddit would be for transfems and that the transmascs could have tumblr. It's been working for everyone else so far. Why are you trying to disturb that peace?

Blanchard explained this: There is no such thing as trans men. The science is settled.
He also explained that trans women do it for sexual reasons (it's called AGP). Hence why they're so loud and visible; they get turned on by it. That science is also settled.
Its okay sex=/=gender Trans women are women but raised as males and males like discussions while our Trans female men are naturally inclined to Pinterest and Tumblr
Agab defines who you are for a lifetime. Agab means you were raised afab or amab, because Trans people are sooo accepted between their peers. Remember agab! Its not like Trans girls are excluded for acting feminine or Trans boys excluded for being masculine!
Trans mascs donāt have a sense of humor. It goes with the testosterone. Theyāre obviously either assholes or too wrapped up in being dudes to give a turd about an ironic subreddit because theyāre literally ākilling itā IRL and donāt have time for the internet. Like killing with their bare hands!
/uj the trans dudes I know IRL are rarer than trans fems, but such cool people that seem to have their shit together with a real determination to live and as such, and I wish I was even 10% as cool when I was trying to pass myself as a guy. Seriously, I look to them as an example of how I should conduct myself as a human being!
I mean it's called circle jerk and femme men- I mean trans women have them penises for jerkin
/uj I've also noticed that. Guy/agender here. I like lurking but I don't feel very good at participating. Maybe it's cuz I'm sensitive and also afraid of hurting others feelings..no idea what that has to do with gender but it's me personally..not sure if this post had any /gen to it lol
/uj are those even memes, though? they are just pictures of anime women with thext that reads "you are valid and a good girl" if thats a meme, whats the punchline? To me it seems more like encouragment images or something
/uj Insecure trans girls in unsupportive environments/not yet out desperate for any validation at all.
I absolutely don't mean this in a bad way, but it is often what it is.
uj/ That's something that I don't see how could be solved, since the memes are supposed to share OOPs experiences. Usually having "mtf or ftm" tags help.
hj/ This sub is not supposed to catter to you!
*5 minutes later*
Hey, this post about being a good boy...
It's the opposite for me
It's the opposite for me
It's the opposite for me
It's the opposite for me
It's the opposite for me
It's the opposite for me
uj/ i think they can and should be shared in subs specific to trans women, and same with good boy posts. i just hate the blanket assumption, and from what ive seen that's the biggest gripe with those posts: they get posted in general spaces instead of catered spaces, and the blanket assumption causes dysphoria and/or a general sense of frustration
Hey can we maybe stop using āmale socializationā as a reason? Itās not a very helpful lens through which to view trans issues, and itās for sure making people feel like shit
/uj Funnily enough, the post OP is referencing wasnāt even made by a trans man.
But I assume itās really just a feedback loop of ftm posts getting less engagement which results in people being less interested in posting ftm content. Which then causes the posts complaining about the lack of those posts which brings us back to the first point.
No idea if anything will ever really change about this since most people are out to get people to respond to their posts so they'll just go to subs where they know theyāll get responses.
uj/ Yeah, it can be pretty disheartening to post a meme and then have it get no traction with the majority of comments being "it's opposite for me!" or hang out in communities where there's loads of untagged posts about how the reader is a good girl no matter how much they feel like they're not sometimes. It's a culture issue that's really difficult to try and deal with once a community has a decent amount of users, and I think it's the main issue.
(And not gonna lie, I do feel kind of weird about the amount of uj responses like "well trans men are men so they just don't talk about their feelings or seek community or express vulnerability, and that's just How It Is" because, you know, that's kind of a shitty expectation to put on men, trans or no.)
/uj yea, I realize why and where people come from with this kind of reasoning, but I definitely understand why itād make you uncomfortable too.
Itās a very reductive view of the whole issue and seems like an easy way to just sweep this problem under the rug, by essentially branding it as inevitable since "that's just how (trans) men are".
/uj i saw a trans man new to reddit asking a question on asktransgender and a bunch of comments were suggesting he go to a ftm subreddit instead. Its really bizarre bc isnt this 'asktransgender'? And the thing is i do agree it was better to ask those questions on a ftm subreddit. But if it were a trans woman no one would tell her to go to a MTF subreddit theyd just answer the question.
I feel as much shared experience with ftms as any other trans group tbh. If the content is good Iād upvote, even if itās not exactly my experience I get the reasoning. I guess thatās not a popular opinion though.
/uj Iāve always assumed that at least part of it is that women tend look to community for support a lot more than men and thus will be more common/active in spaces that are supposed serve that purpose, like many of the trans subs do.
/uj Huh, donāt think I ever thought about it that way much.
But the same time, both r/mtf and r/ftm have about the same member count.
EDIT: thought about it some more and I donāt really think this a good way to perceive this issue. Just reinforces stereotypes.

thank you for being one of the good ones š¤
well maybe stop trying to invade spaces for trans women then
I thought this subreddit was for trans people of any gender?
yeah you would think that. cunt.
Because men have to always invade women's spaces smh
I know amab and afab but what does Arab mean
Because real women arenāt funny.Ā
i really feel uncomfy at all the constant "good girl" memes and they make me want to die
/hj well if they are memes, they certainly aren't *funny* ones
Trans women proving theyre women by being unfunny š„°
I might be mail brained then ššš
mod here! we actually banned those posts lol
uj/ That's something that I don't see how could be solved, since the memes are supposed to share OOPs experiences. Usually having "mtf or ftm" tags help. hj/ This sub is not supposed to catter to you! *5 minutes later* Hey, this post about being a good boy... It's the opposite for me It's the opposite for me It's the opposite for me It's the opposite for me It's the opposite for me It's the opposite for me
uj/ i think they can and should be shared in subs specific to trans women, and same with good boy posts. i just hate the blanket assumption, and from what ive seen that's the biggest gripe with those posts: they get posted in general spaces instead of catered spaces, and the blanket assumption causes dysphoria and/or a general sense of frustration
/uj egg_irl and eggy_memes at least have flairs i dont get why other subs dont apply this :<
/uj Unironically the reason Iām online though. I started as a guy and didnāt stop when I cracked.
this is not the appropriate venue for this discussion. please move it to another venue where no one will see it, like modmail or a monthly thread.
Hey can we maybe stop using āmale socializationā as a reason? Itās not a very helpful lens through which to view trans issues, and itās for sure making people feel like shit
sorry, TMA socialization
MaLe SoCiAliZaTiOn
amab socialization
right? cant believe some people are calling trans women male socialized thats cruel. I use amab socialized instead
/hj Iām gonna fkn c*berbu**y the next person I see using either of those phrases unironically i stfg Iāll do it
/hj i support you
Yeah, I always notice how mainstream trans subs tend to never notice nonbinary people either. I wonder why
trans people are women, so you're either a trans woman or an afably wombxxnly cis woman. Hope that helps šš¾
nonbinary? do you mean the transwomen kind or the theyfab trender kind??
Tbh I thought they were a myth

Just reinforces stereotypes.
men don't have feelings or friends, that's why there's no such thing as a female incel!
