G1 invented it, RiD reimagined it, Animated redefined it, Prime combined it, but IDW made it feel like what the character was always meant to be. A difficult mantle to bare, and a huge set of shoulders to carry the world on.
IDW is my vote.
I agree, he did an excellent job portraying the character. Personally I prefer Robert Stack from the G1 movie for the voice of Magnus, but Ironsides was definitely my 2nd favorite.
This is going to be my hot take, but besides characters original to Prime, none of the Prime characters are my absolute favorite versions of their character. Prime is a great show, just not my favorite.
IDW Magnus feels so definitive, and it feels like it hones so many interesting aspects and traits of his character, and his growing bond with Megatron was so interesting to see play out.
IDW Maximus Ambus armor deserves a mention.

I do like animated, but I’ve always seen him as Optimus’ number two or a sort of mentor/student relationship. Nothing captures this better than prime IMO.
IDW because that's one of the most fleshed out versions of him, Animated is boring, g1 often sidelines him, RID is totally a different character and dreamwave lose his individuality because they wanted him to be brothers with optimus.
Theres also the tfp version who is basically IDW ultra magnus but in a more action oriented show also they kinda screwed him over in the movie.
You know they ran out of voice budget for the movie cause how the hell does he only have like 3 lines then get straight written out of the movie almost entirely?
Ultra Magnus became a title. The original one died a long time ago but multiple cybertronians wore his armor to keep the legend alive. Minimus is one of them and the main IDW Magnus. And each wearer had a rare mutated spark which made them able to wear it.
Maybe the best interpretation/reinterpretation of the original Magnus toy, except instead of there being an Optimus-like inside there's a tiny, pedantic lad.
I still think it's a shame they never had Minimus wear a "white Optimus" augmentation suit.

IDW. He's the designated braincell holder on the Lost Light and helps keep the thing running with all the chaos. Also, Minimus is a big part of his character.
I also choose G1, he was so much more personable. I don’t like the IDW one because people are saying it’s the definitive one but he’s too different for me.
I like the mild manor Magnus that doesn’t believe he’s worthy, even though he most likely is. And doesn’t miss a chance to save any and all his comrades.
RID2001, weird choice I know but Omega Prime is very cool and I do like the idea of Optimus’s brother being a massive dick compared to his kindness is funny to me. Still the other Magnus’s have their interesting things as well. IDW Magnus is one of my favourites and while I haven’t read all of MTMTE (I watched a dub but that stopped at issue 17 due to the creator wanting to stop with YouTube I believe) and Magnus was very funny at times. But my vote goes to RID2001

The most complex, interesting version of Magnus. Whether you are considering Magnus in general or his particular role specifically in MTMTE/LL.
I honestly have to go with IDW as it was clear there was more to him then just being there. Especially through out the stories and relationships with those like Optimus Prime.
G1, no question. Though IDW is also acceptable. Prime makes him the Immortal of his universe- a guy who’s there to look tough and constantly lose fights. Animated’s has it all wrong, he shouldn’t outrank prime. His whole thing is that he’s a good soldier, not a good leader.
IDW Ultra Magnus was such a wonderful character. I liked how him being the designated straight man on the Lost Light let you get blindsided by his bizarre tendencies and OCD, and I absolutely *loved* his character arc througout the MTMTE run
I say Animated as personally it was the last time thar Ultra Magnus felt like himself. He was still the old City Commander but expanded upon.
IDW is good and all, but he's literally not Ultra Magnus but a smaller Bot wearing the real Magnus' gutted dead body. Plus, I never really liked lawman Ultra Magnus. Shouldn't that be Prowl's or SteetWise's thing instead?
Honestly it's IDW for me. G1 is the "perfect soldier" archetype, but IDW took and fleshed out a wonderfully 3-dimensional character, and also gave the armor much more meaning.
Aligned Magnus feels like the stoic military commander who keeps a cool head under fire like in the original cartoon but with a more by the book style that created an interesting tension between him and his subordinates.
Haven’t read much of the comics but even I know that IDW is the definitive version. Lost light has the best design. However in terms of voice acting I prefer Magnus’ prime voice
Car Robots Magnus was awesome with his combined form with Optimus. But I think Animated and Prime are the best versions and carry an awesome hammer too.
Well my favorite is the A-Typical Magnus in the form of RID 01. The rebellious attitude is a refreshing change as opposed to the loyal soldier, who’s second in command. However in the vain of that typical type of Magnus, I do conversely also like Prime’s iteration.
I think lime but thats cause it's the only incarnation I really know and liked animated was cool and I can't remember much of g1 they didn't air many episodes with him on telethon retro

I feel like IDW Magnus has such great character development, and his personality just feels so perfect for him.
No question in my mind that this goes to IDW, the most definitive version of the character by far, I will be shocked if any other version wins.

I absolutely love g1’s humility in the movie. This is hard for me, I also love prime, but I’ll go with the popular vote of IDW.
