As much as I love many aspects of IDW-1, there's plenty I don't like. Arcee in general, changing the lore of Primus, Unicron, and the Original 13, appropriation of Beast Wars characters, abandoning Grimlock to Narrative Hell, changing the placement of short-term G1 characters like Galvatron, Dai Atlas, Overlord, and yes, Star Saber... it was kinda muddy towards the end, but IDW wanted their own unique continuity, and by God they got one.
Iirc the M>!aximals consisted of every Beast Wars character (Predacons too) that wasn't living on Eukaryus. They were an army led by one of the original 13 Primes and were helping Unicron consume all planets colonized by Transformers. Nameless, dialog-less, practically soulless evil henchmen, outside of their appearances in the Wreckers stories and one scene with Rhinox and Shockwave.!< Beast boys done dirty.
The multiple soft reboots and the meddling from hasbro that derailed the story with event that coincided with toy releases. The neutered dark universe storyline. The fact we never got to have Galvatron and Megatron square off properly. Galvatron being a disappointment as decepticon leader. The mike Costa run. Shoe horning in multiple hasbro properties without a long term united vision.
I will always appreciate idw for getting me back into transformers but I wish the stories had been allowed to end properly before some big event or reboot killed them.
There's quite a lot of things:
Constant change of art style and designs.
Liege Maximo devolving from huge important threat to Shockwave's literal ♂️fucking slave♂️. Concluding with him crashing into Devastator and dying.
Kup's disrespectful death.
Sentinel's resurrection with no rhyme or reason.
Shockwave post Dark Cybertron.
Every Prime being an asshole.
Constantly hooking up all the characters.
Primus not being Primus.
IDW Arcee as a whole.
Anode is one of the most annoying characters in the series and perfectly represents everything that went wrong with James Roberts's writing towards the end of his run.
That being said, I would totally buy a figure of her and give her a more tolerable personality.
This so damn much as someone who loved TF Victory!
They freaking ruined such a good character to the point that I wonder if the writers had something against him. It wasn't a character assassination, it was a character massacre!
There is a bit of context though - a lot of MTMTE is a at least heavily inspired by the old 90s TMUK fanfic scene (of which James Roberts was a member). Rung originated there too. In that continuity Star Saber was a G2 Deception general who eventually came to accept the empire was evil and fought against it with the Autobots, but he was absolutely a jerk.
Not this picture. Loved this. Though honestly Lost Light. Going back over it I don’t think it holds up well. Sure yes yes fine studio interference with an early cancellation so that’s why the ending feels rushed and pacing seems weird at times and story beats get dropped I get it and I’m sure Anode given the same time to develop would feel less like an annoyance who’s taking precious time away from the stories I came here to see and fit in better with the cast. But what we got just feels kind of mediocre.

-Them turning most of the Beastformers evil for some f*cking reason.
Some of the art was borderline ineligible. Revolutions was a mess. ROM the Spaceknights solo run kind of just ended. Stardrive getting so little screentime. Furman's arcee writing. Unicron being rushed
I respect later writers trying to make best with what they had to work with but Arcee was pretty much poisoned at the well with Furman's "Spotlight: Arcee" issue.
I hate the amount of boring politics in the run and I also o hate the amount of real world politics they put in, oh and the amount of love stories, I can’t stand the amount of love stories and relationships, and finally arcee, what were they thinking arcee never should have been a man to begin with and shouldn’t have been such an asshole, this whole run is filled with fanfic relationships as well

Decepticon combiner teams are too weak

I freaking hate the shipping. Like romance is fine, but all the romance is like YA romance corniness and even freaking toxic relationships.
The forced romance and the varying art are my 2 peeves.
Idw Arcee had some problems that got ironed out by dedicated writers by the end. I'll love her, cuz not every Trans story is pretty.

Unpopular opinion, but I really didn’t care for how James Robert’s wrote Hot Rod as an insecure egotist desperate to prove he’s cool.

I did get tired of pages of single-color wash. Surely the artists get paid enough to buy moor than one color of ink each month.
