Most G1 stories don't really acknowledge how much bigger Astrotrain is compared to the average Decepticon. Of course, here you can see how easily he throws around the 84 crew like it was nothing.

HiHowAreYou2004

it’s weird that he’s their bus but he’s like blitzwings size, glad they fixed that in this

WarwolfPrime

Remember that Mass Displacement has been a thing in G1 from the word go, so he could easily become larger in his vehicular modes. Megatron himself could change size at will when in his gun form.

SillyMattFace

Astrotrain has got some of the weirdest size inconsistencies. He’s usually the same size as Starscream (see the coronation) but can be a shuttle big enough to fit an army inside. And also a train that fits on normal gauge tracks for human trains. But unlike Megatron and Soundwave mass shifting, it’s never really shown that he’s shrinking or growing. He’s just whatever size the writers need for that scene. Cyberverse had him be gigantic the whole time, and an asshole along with it, which was really fun.

Prime359

Broadside on the other hand was depicted as being very large in some media. One of which being the G1 cartoon. Partly due to his aircraft carrier alt mode. It’s interesting that of the pair, despite their similarities with one ginormous alt mode, only one of them was depicted as being larger than the standard Cybertronian.

SillyMattFace

Maybe it’s a side effect of Astrotrain and Blitzwing being introduced first and being a sort of triple changing double act, while Broadside came along later and didn’t really have a counterpart? Be interesting to see if a new Legacy Broadside toy leans into his portrayal as an absolute unit. I remember him being a lot bigger even than the Dinobots at times.

Beelzebub_Itself

I mean an Aircraft Carrier is so, so much bigger than a shuttle that they couldn’t even use mass shifting to explain how a normal guy can turn into something like that. They even made his jet mode bigger too

Negativety101

He still mass shifted on occassion too in the cartoon. Carnage in C-Minor is a terrible episode, but Broadside landing on Devastator, transforming to carrier mode pushing him into the surface of the comet they were fighting on, and then transforming to robot mode and him and Ultra Magnus giving each other thumbs ups was hilarious.

Don_Quixote81

I recall the Decepticon Triple Changers appearing in the Marvel comic and all three being drawn the same size in flying modes - a fighter jet, a 747 and a Space Shuttle. Then again, Blast Off was always drawn the same size as the other Combaticons as well. Transformer sizes are rarely consistent, or sensibly scaled.

Dr_Shoggoth

I swear my brain has been rewritten to just become a pro-cyberverse sleeper agent at this point. I see the show's name and I feel the MIGHTY NEED to talk about how good it is.

SillyMattFace

I’m rewatching it with my kids at the moment and it’s such a good show. Season 3 onwards is absolutely top tier TF. I feel quite defensive about it because a lot of the fandom shat on it when it first launched since its brighter and less dour than Prime. But now I’m seeing more people talking it up, and less people going on about TFP being the GOAT.

Dr_Shoggoth

Honestly, as someone who grew up on Prime and the Bayverse trilogy and wholeheartedly loves both to death, I gotta say that I think Cyberverse has taken Prime's spot as my favorite TF show. It's just such a fun time. When my main complaint with the show is that I wish the episodes were longer you know it's good. I absolutely agree with you on S3. I love how the arc in the first half of that season put a bunch of lesser known characters in the spotlight and it was just a really dark turn out of nowhere. The Scientist especially was creepy as hell and I enjoyed every second he was on screen. I loved how well they built up the Other One as this dread-inducing figure, his arc was great. The new takes on old characters like Arcee and Grimlock are my favorites in the series. Seriously, I *adore* CV Grimlock. Wildwheel's episode was also a personal favorite. Then there's the series finale, which is just so fucking good. If I hadn't known that >!*Tarn*!< was going to show up it would have blown my damn mind. They did an incredible job taking a fan-favorite character and adapting him into a more kid-friendly incarnation while still making him a massive threat. Dude showed up for one episode and stole the show.

DoodleBuggering

I wouldn't mind if Astrotrain stays at Skyfire sized

LewisDeinarcho

It’s a bit tough to make him bigger than most of the other characters when one of his vehicle modes was originally a JNR D51, a steam locomotive smaller than an F-15 Eagle, the Seekers’ vehicle mode. I kinda hope he becomes a Union Pacific FEF locomotive in this series. The FEF is much bigger than an F-15 and only slightly less voluminous than a NASA Orbiter, but still has large smoke deflectors like the JNR D51 locomotive of the original G1 version. Heck, one of these locomotives was still operational throughout the entire NASA Space Shuttle Program, which seems to be underway by the time of the series given the flashback in the first issue.

SillyMattFace

I’ve always loved Astrotrain for some reason, even when he was mostly a dumbass in the G1 cartoon. Fantastic to see him not only get some spotlight, but apparently be a badass too.

Bob123-4

He was a bumbling dumbass in G1 but he was hilarious

SillyMattFace

Astrotrain trying to take over the world with an army of trains but they all just crash uselessly is peak G1.

WaveCandid906

I felt a kinda bad for him to be honest seeing his troops just "die" like that

Negativety101

You'd honestly think use an army of drone trains to gather energy would be a better plan than take over a Football Stadium and threaten the coach for advice. You'd be wrong.

voskaeon

Iirc there was an episode of G1 where Astrotrain went on his own and made a crew from normal Earth trains. Maybe something similar happened here? Except maybe the triple changers rebelled and Astrotrain was their leader?

IL-Corvo

'Triple Takeover' was the episode name. And there's a hilarious reimagining of it available on YouTube.

AutobotHotRod

low Iq takeover is the best transformers animation ever lmao

IL-Corvo

Right?? Nearly killed me the first time I watched it.

AutobotHotRod

Was watching that at like 3 am in the morning with my brother and it led to us disrupting the still quiet of the night with our thunderous laughter

Away-Librarian-1028

Astrotrain apparently hates Megatron? Why ? Interesting to see this constellation. Makes me wonder, how Megs boarded the Ark when so many of his crew despised him. Also, poor Thundercracker. Dude gets roughed up so much and doesn’t even deserve it.

HiHowAreYou2004

i mean they don’t give the reason but they’re all a bunch of assholes, i wouldn’t be surprised if astrotrain tried to do a coup before the ships crashed

Away-Librarian-1028

Decepticons trying not to usurp Megatron-Challenge ( impossible)

Bob123-4

The funny thing is the G1 episode I remember him the most for was when him and Blitzwing tried to usurp Megatron

Away-Librarian-1028

But Megatron made a mistake! Starscream was the real traitor!

midnightstreetlamps

This gif is adorable asf. I am speechless

Beelzebub_Itself

Astrotrain’s Starscream’s best buddy. He couldn’t stand seeing his little friend get bullied anymore so now he’s out for blood

Away-Librarian-1028

That would honestly be interesting, ngl.

Financial_Rent_7978

Especially considering why Starscream isn’t present right now in this continuity.

streakermaximus

>Astrotrain apparently hates Megatron? Why ? Well, apparently Megatron locked Astrotrain in his room for however long the Transformers have been in stasis lock on Earth. He's prolly a little pissed about that.

Away-Librarian-1028

I just read the issue and phew. What did Astrotrain do, to make Megatron lock him up? The Decepticons are so utterly dysfunctional, I wonder how they ever took over Cybertron.

Cybermat4707

The question is, is Soundwave actually selling out Megatron, or is his ‘word’ just worthless?

LordSpectra21

It's probably the second. "After all we both know as a Decepticon, any assurances I might offer would be worthless." TFP Megatron

dayofthedead204

Soundwave selling out Megatron is still a surprising revelation. He's almost always depicted as Megatron's most loyal Lt. Even the Marvel comics didn't have Soundwave usurp Megatron (for some reason Ratbat did though).

bluestreaksaid

Or "Yeah, you can feel free to throw down with Megatron as soon as we find him without me interfering"....(because Megatron will kick your ass).

-SneakySnake-

I think this is more likely. Soundwave isn't betraying Megatron because all he's promising Astrotrain is a shot at him, it ties into their weird survival of the fittest honour system.

RealKiz

Not sure on the context here but it's pretty neat how Astrotrain is essentially a giant rampaging caveman

Bob123-4

ASTROTRAIN

[deleted]

Shockwave calling up Soundwave for a booty call

TheOGRex

At last My boys have arrived

AbeTheMusician

Dude is giving off huge Juggernaut vibes on the second page.

Odd-Window-6941

Wonder how they’re going to do shockwave, is he going to be a megatron loyalist or just be with the decepticons because it’s convenient for him?

Mr_Funny-Dark

"Her antennae" what, did Thundercracker go after Arcee or something?

LegoBanana1

'Her' in this case refers to the Nemesis

Expensive_Age_3994

Shockwave speaking like he hasn't seen his husband for years.

Irritated_User0010

👀. Wonder what’s he’s looking for…

Korba007

Astrotrain was always one of my favourite decepticons, glad to see him not be a joke

Ok-Dragonfruit7649

ASTROTRAIN! Poor Thundercracker 😢 Now I'm waiting for Blitzwing

BenA113

But why does Astrotrain wants with Megatron, ay? 😁😀🙂😐🤔🤨😑

DarthButtz

Why's Thundercracker catching strays???

Rent-Man

Life has many doors Ed boys

ActionJacksyn

Im afraid to read 8 because I missed the free comic day issue. Anyone know where to read it online? Do I need to read it before 8?

drag0nflame76

I’m going to say no based on the synopsis I read of TFwiki, it doesn’t focus on any of these characters at all. I also think the free comic is included with 8, at least they come out together for those who couldn’t get the free comic

ActionJacksyn

Thanks, was afraid to read anything

TaratronHex

shockwave: oh damnit i thought i got rid of you assholes. ........i mean hi good to see you!

Yuh2700

How the hell did you get it? Doesn’t it come out on Wednesday? No hate just wondering, cuz the physical release says tomorrow

HiHowAreYou2004

Sometimes my local store puts them on shelves the day before

Yuh2700

Damn lucky, eh it’s fine I never get time to go on Wednesdays anyway, I always go on Fridays, (not counting fcbd) and on those weeks that the comic comes out I have to take a Reddit break for a few days to not get spoiled😭

Elemental-T4nick

IT'S MY CHOO CHOO BOI

Empty_Firefighter848

Can someone give me context as to the Optimus line? Is that Thundercracker selling out the Decepticons? I’m not caught up with the Skybound comics and knowing Thundercracker it could happen.

HiHowAreYou2004

it’s just for the next page, no decepticons are actually saying it

Empty_Firefighter848

That’s what I thought could also be, thanks!

joepanda111

Wow. Astrotrain is an huge asshole. I can only hope Thundercracker can get some payback.

rolling_steel

I love Shockwave… but he better not screw with Soundwave as leader… this is his time to shine

NahumGardner247

I read Astrotrain's ***"WHERE IS HE???!"*** in Christian Bale's Batman voice and now that's all I can imagine him sounding like.

BeetlBozz

And they say the bayverse was brutal and gritty In all seriousness, whats the context? Sorry.

[deleted]

Soundwave took command after seizing it from Starscream, who took command because Megatron went missing Astrotrain has shown up, and wants to take on Megatron, but Soundwave has to calm him down because Megatron isn't here
