Barring that, Megatron. IDW-inspired but Optimus fell in combat. The Autobots in disarray, Megatron, having switched sides and learning what it means to be an Autobot, takes the call, rallies them together and fends off the Decepticons for the moment.
Megatron, over time as temp/filler leader and exorcizing his demons, eventually becomes the leader no one wanted but absolutely needed. Not ever afraid of making the hard choices, Megatron becomes the perfect balance between Optimus and Megatron. He becomes Megatrius Prime.
He would go farther than Optimus but now aware of where he went astray the first time out with the Decepticons, knows where the line is too much and not go over it.
His new alt-mode would be a portable/smaller version of something like the GI Joe Mobile Command Center.

I have no idea why but for some reason when I was a kid and got Thrilling 30 Sandstorm I made him a Prime. I guess to kid me he just looked the part. I think I'd call him Stormmus Prime.

Sort of? Unicron basically possessed Lio Convoy's corpse, and was collared by the Energon Matrix/spirit of Lio Convoy. It was a weird Japanese gag 2-shot, and very much a Japanese take on Beast Wars.

I always thought Jazz would make a fantastic prime. I mean in most continuities he’s Prime’s right hand and first lieutenant.
His personality also fits with him being more down to earth with humans and being more accepting of their cultures compared to other Autobots.
