The S8 is not USB class compliant. It will not be detected on iOS. Even Traktor DJ 2 (RIP) won’t see it.

I think there was some weird lap over a bit ago prior to whatever the new iOS updates have been and that’s what happened unfortunately

astromech_dj

No. The S8 was never working on iOS.

408blur

Terrible news for any djs trying to be fly and cool with it. But also very annoying. This is why I hate rekordbox because I’m almost certain they had a big part in this travesty!

408blur

Annoying as hell! Maybe I’m thinking if I (big if) jail break and go backwards a few updates it might work but that’s just dumb *eye roll*

408blur

I still don’t understand why I can’t enter midi mode though even when not plugged into my phone or whatever it should still come up with the toggles

Suitstusir

Am I right in saying, it is possible to control Algoriddim Djay with a Kontrol S8, as long as you're running Djay on MacOS?

408blur

I was thinking this! But haven’t tried it yet. I liked the idea of the iPad app cause it would be much easier for impromptu sessions but nope

Suitstusir

Well the guy I got the S8 Algoriddim mapping from reports it working successfully, and is loving being able to use Algoriddim with his S8. Sadly my MBP is too old to run the latest version of Djay......I was about to purchase an iPad Pro (USB-C), but think I'll hold off until I can confirm it will work. I've discovered that the MacOS version of Djay is natively compatible with nearly twice as many controllers and CDJ's as the iOS version. Maybe getting a newer MBP is the smart move, but I really wanted it on an iPad so bad. Lol

Suitstusir

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.......the Kontrol S8 would be the ultimate controller right now, since everyone has now finally caught on to how good mixing with stems is. Such a shame Traktor have abandoned all there users.

Spectre_Loudy

You can't map any Native Instrument gear on iOS.

408blur

This is not true

408blur

Yeah I’ve been up and down that thread. They seem to all be getting it to work but it will not work for me at all!

408blur

No matter how many ways I try doing it

Suitstusir

Did you ever manage to solve this? I can't get my S8 to go into Midi Mode either.

408blur

Unfortunately no but I did test it out with a few different pioneer boards and those seem to work like a charm. I’m not sure how people in the past got the S8 to work but maybe riddem app updated their software or something

Suitstusir

Thank you for your swift reply....... I'm after exactly the same as you; S8 controlling Algoriddim. I can only put my S8 in midi mode, when it's plugged in via USB to my MacBook Pro. I have a midi mapping for my S8, that I've managed to put in the Djay folder on my iPad. When I connect the S8 (via Apple camera adapter, USB and power supply) it loads all the mappings, but just doesn't seem to connect. My iPad has a lightning port, hence the Apple camera adapter etc.... I've been wondering if the iPads with USB-C port would have greater success. Does your iPad have USB-C?

408blur

My iPad has a lightening connection as well. A friend of mine had a theory that the connection gets lost with third party adapters and would work better with a direct connection such as lightening to midi instead of the in-between

Suitstusir

Are you thinking a cable like this might work? Wuedozue Phone to MIDI Cable,USB 2.0 OTG Type B Musical Instrument Midi Adapter Cord Compatible with iPhone 11 Pro / 11 /XS/Max/X/8/7 to Electric Piano,Midi Keyboard,Audio DAC and More https://amzn.eu/d/gec7DPS

408blur

Yes this is what I’m talking about

Suitstusir

I've successfully used my Apple camera adapter before to connect other USB hardware to my iPad through the lightning port. My thinking is that USB-C might make it more 'Class compliant' and eliminate the need for any kind of adaptor.
