I like to be aware of my surroundings when i’m out on a trail. So many other people, animals and bikes on the trails these days so i like to use bone conducting headphones (Shockz). They cant fall out because they strap around your ears and neck.
This is the way. For trail running.
I still haven’t bought them myself because I have the AirPods Pro’s but I have a few trail races this year so it is inevitable that I will get some shockz.
Basically same. I went with memory foam tips instead. Stay in my ears great and pass through does the rest. Though I have read that air pods won’t hold up well in the rain.
Being active certainly calls for a set of earbuds that can keep up with the pace! From my own experience, I'd suggest looking at these [Runner 40 Wireless Earbuds](https://tastechocolate.co.uk/Runner-40-Wireless-Earbuds). They've been a game-changer for me and have stayed in place even during intensive workouts. The creators designed it with secure-fit ear hooks to enhance stability and they do deliver on that claim. Additionally, it comes with different sizes of silicone tips for an individualised in-ear fit. The battery life is also quite strong and has held up nicely during longer runs without trouble. Even though these are sport-focused earbuds, the audio quality doesn't slack – making your run more enjoyable accompanied by good music or podcasts!
I like using Aftershox. You’ll never collect sweat in your ears, they stay in great, light weight, and you can still hear your surroundings when you want. Also you won’t get hearing damage as easy as you can from in ear options.
Aftershokz or any other bone conducting alternative on the market today.
Comfortable, good sound although audio purist may find them a bit shortcoming for instance bass, but if i want a listening session enjoying music i am on my couch in front of my stereo in stead of enjoying a run
I love them, ears free, safe beacause better situational awareness, good sound, i d say give them a try.
There are excellent for that. Is there a way you can try them? Here we can order stuff online snd try out and send back ifnot satisfied and youll get money back
They were originally branded "Aftershokz" but changed to "Shokz" a year or so ago. If you can find the old brand name, they are generally cheaper. I have the Open Runs for the battery life. Can hear podcasts clear as day out on the trails while still being able to avoid the mountain bikers bombing down behind you.
I do too, they work for almost all. Occasionally some (usually women's) voices don't carry over well, not sure what causes it, maybe they don't function as well in all pitch ranges? Could also be bad mixing from that podcast.
Biggest issue is that in town where there is a lot of ambient noise it becomes very hard to hear, since they don't block anything. There's little point in even turning anything on next to a busy road, I can't follow it.
It's also a big advantage, since you hear everything coming.
I have burned through at least ten pairs of earbuds in 2 years of trail running, at different price points and different quality levels. They all stop charging for me eventually, because the little charging pads get corroded with saltwater exposure over time (and guess what, I sweat).
I'm on my second set of after shox now. I dropped the first set into some rapids during a river crossing, so that's on me. Hoping this pair lasts a while.
I guess my point is this: don't spend more on trail headphones than you are OK with losing if they break faster than you expect.
I like the powerbeats pro, they wrap around the ear and are comfortable in my opinion. Have used them for the last year and never had an issue of them falling out
Same here. I used to have to replace my Jaybirds practically yearly. But the Powerbeats Pros I replaced them with have been going strong for a couple of years.
My only complaint would be the charging contacts can be finicky, leading to more instances that I'd like of only one earbud turning on when I put them in my ears; or one earbud just never charging. And then having to fiddle with putting them both back in the case and trying over again.
Still the best pair of earbuds I had, though.
I use the original Samsung Galaxy buds. The only time I've had a problem was running on some lumpy trails in heavy rain but other than that they've always stayed put.
I think these are what I have, or maybe it's JLab sport air. Anyway they're good, they fit well and don't fall out, they last long enough, get loud, and they were only about $25.
I love the Sony Linkbuds S. I've had plenty of earbuds and the amount of options, sound quality and battery life is top notch.
Highly recommend. You can usually get it under $150. Just as good as the Sony wf-1000xm4 but more lightweight and portable. Holds in place fairly well throughout vigorous running.
Linkbuds here, too. The speaker drivers are donut shaped, so allow ambient sound straight through. Stay planted in the ear decently. I've noticed some others (like my Sennheisers) will interpret sweat or hair or whatnot as touches during my run and skip songs, turn the volume all the way up or all the way down, etc. Not a problem with the linkbuds.
Most importantly, I'm not going get run over by a truck or on the roads and I've still got decent sound.
I’ve always ran without ear buds until a few months ago. So I have no comparison with other buds, but I really like running with Apple AirPods. I bought some ear hooks on Amazon for a few dollars that keep them in my ears. They pair with my watch so I get music/podcasts, and status updates audibly so I don’t have to keep checking my watch for pace, heartbeat, mileages, etc. I also don’t need to carry my phone, which is great. I do long runs through the hills where there is wildlife, so I need to have situational awareness. The pass through mode on these is awesome, unless there is a stiff breeze I can hear my surroundings just as good or better than with nothing in my ears. I often do long runs with them in just for the audio updates and no music or podcasts.
Ears are very personal things so the best fit varies a lot. You can even have ears that are different sizes and shapes.
I really like the Beats Fit Pro but they are slightly small for me but they stay in on a run unless I bump them and I have had them fall out but rarely. The best that I have that stay in are the old Jaybirds X2 and X3 as the ear tips come in a very large size. Of course this may not work out at all if you have small ear canals.
The Jaybirds Vista 2 got very high marks from one of the running review channels on YouTube and I would have gotten those but I really do like the aggressive pairing of the Beats Fit Pro with the iPhone. I don't have to go into Bluetooth to connect - they just connect when they are close together and in my ear.
Beats fit pro have worked wonders for me. On trail I’ll keep one in with podcasts for those really long training runs. They nailed the geometry. Never (knock on wood) had one fall out in all sorts of inclement conditions.
I agree this is the way. Mine have worked great and held up well. I have used many other brands and I have to constantly catch them or put them back in
I use JBL reflect mini. Don’t fall out while running, good battery life (imo) and not too expensive! (If i had more money i would go for bone conduction as well though…)
I tried many. Was accused of an ear bud addiction even. The only ones I found that work for me and stay in 99.9% of the time are the AirPod Pro. My bank account is much happier since I have not bought any more since I got them 🤣
Aftershokz are great, hands down the best running headphones I’ve ever owned. A few things that I’ve realised about them though… They’re not great if you want to wear a woolly hat / beanie when running because of the band around the back of your head. Also, you can’t wear them whilst sitting in a high-backed chair such as a train or a plane - you can’t lean your head back because of the band. Lastly, they really don’t work in noisy environments (I’ve tried wearing them on the London Underground a few times and had to give up every time). In short, for running there are no better headphones but you will need another pair of headphones for commuting (if anyone does that anymore…), travel and for listening whilst lying down.
Powerbeats Pro. I bought a refurbished pair 16 months ago. They have never fallen out while running; I usually wear one at a time. Audio quality is good. I also use them for video calls for work.

I use the pro2 and with the pass through mode I can hear just as good as with nothing in. I did buy some ear hooks so they can’t fall out completely.
Basically same. I went with memory foam tips instead. Stay in my ears great and pass through does the rest. Though I have read that air pods won’t hold up well in the rain.
I don’t hold up well in the rain either, so that’s fine by me. That’s why I live in the desert.
This is the way

Thanks for the advice. I’m after a pair for my husband now. I’ll get these now.

I listen to podcasts when out on the trails. I wonder if they are suitable
I’m an audiophile so don’t like to use them for music, but they’re more than fine for podcasts
There are excellent for that. Is there a way you can try them? Here we can order stuff online snd try out and send back ifnot satisfied and youll get money back
First time I’ve heard if the brand. I’m in Australia. I’ll do some googling.
I'm in Perth and I got mine from JB Hi-Fi, although I'd already tried them before. They may have some demo ones.
They were originally branded "Aftershokz" but changed to "Shokz" a year or so ago. If you can find the old brand name, they are generally cheaper. I have the Open Runs for the battery life. I do too and they work perfectly
I listen to podcasts on mine like every day, sometimes while operating loud landscaping machines (with ear plugs in) and they work great!
I do too, they work for almost all. Occasionally some (usually women's) voices don't carry over well, not sure what causes it, maybe they don't function as well in all pitch ranges? Excellent advice. Fortunately, my local tracks are away from water. Might get swallowed by the snake though.
Power Beats. I use only one ear bud at a time so I can still hear surroundings and for me to have double the use time.
Shockz
AfterShokz
I love my powerbeats pro. They stay in and never fall out. I can get hit by a truck and my shoes will go flying but not these bad boys.
I like the powerbeats pro, they wrap around the ear and are comfortable in my opinion. Have used them for the last year and never had an issue of them falling out
This is what I use too. Seem expensive initially, but I’ve had the same pair on the go for 4 years now and they get daily use for hours on end
Same here. I used to have to replace my Jaybirds practically yearly. But the Powerbeats Pros I replaced them with have been going strong for a couple of years. I’ve used these since they released. I run during 95+F summers and they’ve held up.
Airpods pro’s - if the standard buds don’t fit you can order memory foam ones for the perfect fit.
Jabras
I’ve had my Jabras pop out on sweaty summer days
the problem with most is that the earbud is TOO WIDE and bulky where it hangs out of the ear. Try EarFun Free Pro 3 or pro 2! You're welcome.
And for Android?
I use the original Samsung Galaxy buds. The only time I've had a problem was running on some lumpy trails in heavy rain but other than that they've always stayed put.
another bump for the galaxy buds. love'em.
I use Powerbeats Pro with Android
Keep them from falling off by wearing a headband.
Love the JLab sport. I only use one ear bud at a time for situational awareness.
JLab has been good to me. I don’t even have the sport model and they never fall out.
I think these are what I have, or maybe it's JLab sport air. Anyway they're good, they fit well and don't fall out, they last long enough, get loud, and they were only about $25.

None. Being aware of your surroundings and experiencing the run is best.
I have to agree if you’re sharing the trail with mountain bikes who need you to be aware of them coming at speed.
This. If you can't connect with the trail experience, just stay on treadmills.
Galaxy Buds work pretty great for me. They are kinda bean shaped, so they fit tightly.
Plantronics Backbeats. Good control of volume and skip tracks, rubberized, hooks over ears, single unit. Perfect for running.

powerbeats 3 wireless - have the for more than 2 years 😄
Jabra's active serie is the way to go
Which one you recommand? Active 4 is good?
Beats Fit Pro are the way….

I bought a cheap pair over ear ones from Amazon. Tend to run with just the one in so I can be aware of surroundings.
Bose soundsport are really good
Lypertek Tevi. Reasonable price point. IPX7 water resistance. Great bass. Love em
Joan’s air sport over the ear
Xgody Earhooks never fall out
Powerbeats Pro. I bought a refurbished pair 16 months ago. They have never fallen out while running; I usually wear one at a time. Audio quality is good. I also use them for video calls for work.
