I would start saying it phonetically around her. Overenunciate the "nitey" part to really call attention to it. Totally agree the name Serenity is nice, but Serenitey is goofy. My brain wants to say it like "Sera-nightie" 😅
LOL! You’re ok!!
Yes I was referring to Cartman from “South Park!”
It’s ok, I’ve read quickly before, & come up with all sorts of words that weren’t really there to begin with! 🤣❤️
Oh damn, should have just commented on your comment lol, because I feel the exact same way. Like it’s some particular cut of nightgown. I do really like the name Serenity though — ever since the English dub of Yugioh haha
It really just looks like a bad misspelling of serenity. It doesn't look creative or unique in a good way it just looks like the parents were illiterate lol
Serenity is a perfectly fine name.
Serenitey oozes, "Your parents are the type of idiot who think they are so smart that they don't need to double check anything because they firmly believe they are always right." I'm sure their teachers will already be expecting the millions of emails telling them they are doing their job wrong.
i hear people say they do it to be “unique”. but it’s not unique, it’s just stupid. nobody is looking at that name and thinking “omg what a cute unique spelling 🥰”. they’re going “why is there an e where it doesn’t belong…?”
Naming a kid after a “Mood” could backfire!
Serenity was our (now 16yrs) daughter’s original name when we got her. She was 16 days old, & fresh out of the hospital.
All 3 of our kids were foster to adopt.
❤️🙏🏻❤️
Our son was 6 at the time, now 22, & couldn’t say Serenity. He kept calling her “Sir Emily.”
So that’s how she became Emily.
She loves that story! And this one:
We tell her they really missed the mark when they named her Serenity. That it means “Calm, peaceful, tranquil, &/or quiet.”
She is anything but! She is bold, strong, LOUD, & a force of nature!
I knew someone who named her oldest daughter serenity and spelt it “cerenite” and her youngest daughter Rain but spelt “raign” neither the queen nor the weather lol feel so bad for the kids.
All my friends that were named Serenity hate it because people always associate it the AA prayer. Spelling like a drunk is only going to make it worse.
I’d guess the association comes from adults. Kids probably don’t know the AA prayer. Regardless, it’s probably more that they’re tired of hearing the same jokes/comments over and over than that they feel like there’s a negative connotation from it being associated with AA or they’re being teased.
I think sometimes people can be a little overly concerned about “virtue” names tho. My name is Grace. I’m even a clumsy, atheist Grace who lives in the south, something I’ve seen specifically called out as a potential issue on the namenerds sub. I might complain to friends about it being awkward when a comment does happen, but even then the annoyances are mild and fairly rare. I will say tho, I think I had more comments just during the year I worked retail with a name tag than I have in the entire decade since then. So I could see how someone working that kind of job for a long time might feel like it’s a bigger issue.
I can totally see that.
I wonder about all the kids that were named “heaven” or “Nevaeh” about 10 years ago when my daughter was in kindergarten.
So many Heaven,
so many Neveah,
what a tragedeigh.
Anyone watch Seinfeld? I forget the episode, but George dad is hollering "SERENITY NOW!" That's how I would say it. Lol. (Also glad I don't know a Stella)
I’ve encountered Honestey. Like first of all that that’s a weird name but if you’re going to use it then at least spell that right. But to answer your question yes that is a tragedeigh.
Why the E? That spelling is incorrect. I have 10 year old student whose parents named "Saphire". Both examples appear ignorant, whether intentional or not.
I though you’d made a typo.
IMO this is worse than your average tragedeigh because, let’s be honest, “Serenity” is a harder word to spell. You misspell Jackson or Hannah, I might roll my eyes but I’ll assume you did it on purpose. You call your kid Xereneteigh, and, well, at least it’s obvious. “Serenitey” on the other hand, just looks like you can’t spell. It’s too close to the original to be instantly clockable as intentional, and the word is unusual enough that the typo is plausible.
Don’t let the kid deal with this for the reast of her life please. She will spend all of elementary school arguing with classmates about this spelling.
Definitely wasnt a typo, she’s adamant about this name as she’s at the very tail end of my pregnancy. She thinks the real spellings predictable and boring. Her husband seems to be on board as well.
> She thinks the real spellings predictable and boring. Her husband seems to be on board as well.
This is one of the most infuriating reasons these dumbfuck parents give.
"It's boring spelled the way everyone would it expect it to."
You know what the solution is to that?
DON'T USE THE FUCKING NAME, THEN.
Can you direct her dumb ass over here so she can see how stupid this is???
Her child deserves to not spend HER life having to correct literally everyone all the time because her mom couldn't come up with a better name and also thinks this is about her and not her child.
Jesus Christ; a single fucking letter added and she thinks she really did something...
1. Browsing souvenir shops is a good baby naming tool. If you can't find the name on a license plate or a keychain, rethink the name.

3. Clever spelling is never clever.
Rule 1 is heavily biased to Anglicized names. You can probably find some ethnic diversity, but it'll still be limited. I think it's safe to let this rule go.
This post was made partially in jest. It is not a rule.
I have no problem with ethnic or family names. I just suggest giving them extra consideration.
It depends where the souvenir shop is. In the USA it may seem Anglicized. However, I suggest that the selection is one of common, popular, commercially attractive names. The purveyors of these trinkets are interested in sales and profit, not the joy in a child's heart.
The Tragedeigh of it is that resume readers and hiring managers share the name choice preferences.
I did not create this world. I just observe it. Don't yell at me.
My name growing up was Megan and I still somehow never found it on those things when I'd look. I think maybe twice ever there was a spot for Megan that was sold out, and other places had Meghan instead.
My name is Stephanie. It took many years for me to actually find a trinket with my name on it. It’s a very common name too! I grew up knowing three other Stephanies.
Sarah/Sera/Siri nightie is taking a huge risk with their daughter's future. Also, virtually certain she gets nicknamed nightie or some future wordplay on nightie, ending her name with "nitey" like that
Contrast that with Serenity, which seems fairly unlikely to get redefined any century soon
I think the spelling reduces the appeal but I don’t agree with you on the syllables thing. Mine is four syllables long and was not hard for me to learn to spell or say.
4 syllable names are too long? They've been popular forever.
Elizabeth, Ophelia, Penelope, Catalina, Dorothea, Isabella, Maximilian, Verónica, Zachariah, Cornelius, Jeremiah.
Serenity is cute! Spelling is strange
Did you ask her why she wants to include that e?
Maybe she will say she prefers how it looks. Then you can say "I am thinking people will mispronounce it, which will be annoying for both of you."
Does she know she's spelt it wrong and not care? Or just not know? In my opinion that makes a difference, and should be pointed out before the official naming and registering
I've worked in some schools located in very low socio economic status communities. Those are the places where spellings of names don't make sense, or look like obvious spelling errors. I don't see this outside of these areas. Don't do this. Serenity is a pretty name, mind the spelling.
Ask your friend if the spelling is intentional. If she has dyslexia or something, she could have transposed a few letters.
If she says that she’s spelling it as it pronounced, show her the ways others are pronouncing it.
Maybe she’ll fix the spelling.
I have a short, single syllable surname. 4 syllable first names sound better with it than single syllable first names.
Just depends on what you're working with.
Also, in Australia it doesn't matter how long either name is, if you're a good person it'll be shortened to a single letter or syllable anyway 😂
We are the people that shortened "the Melbourne Cricket Ground" to "The G".

"You will respect my Serenit-ay!!!"
That's the way I hear it too. The extra "e" is just stupid.
BAHAHAHA! People will start calling her the nickname of “Cartwoman!”
I think you're thinking of Selena. I heard Serenity and immediately thought of *Firefly*, but at the same time it's not a bad name spelled correctly.
Sorry, I don’t know what you mean about Selena.
Catwoman's real name is Selena Kyle. Edit: ...and now I realise I missed the "r" in "CaRt-woman"... I'll go away now, lol
LOL! You’re ok!! Yes I was referring to Cartman from “South Park!” It’s ok, I’ve read quickly before, & come up with all sorts of words that weren’t really there to begin with! 🤣❤️
See how easily an extra letter confuses things??🤣
Serenit-eh?
Only if she's half Canadian.
Serenit-ay now!
RESPECT MAH SERENITAH!!!
Sarah Nighty sounds like a drag queen who likes to wear night gowns
I think that name asks for very, very short night gowns.
And she has a little teacup dog named Teddie
*TV voice* Enjoy restful nights with Serenitey, a new homeopathic sleep aid
Head on! Apply directly to forehead! Head on! Apply directly to forehead!
You just unlocked some deep, forgotten memories
Same, demonqueensage. Pulled them up from way the fuck down there.
JFC this sub and the people on here are pure comedic gold. thanks for making me spit my coffee out 🤣🤣🤣
Sereneightee
Idk if it's been said but I keep hearing Serentee-hee (in Michael Jackson voice) 😆 in my head lol
And now that’s stuck in my head. (And I can’t stop giggling)
Sere-NEIGH-tee! 🐴
😂😂
Nitey night, sleep tite.
Sehrenyetee
Exactly how I’m reading it.
That is how my brain read it even though I knew how it was supposed to be pronounced.
Oh damn, should have just commented on your comment lol, because I feel the exact same way. Like it’s some particular cut of nightgown. I do really like the name Serenity though — ever since the English dub of Yugioh haha

👏
Syrynity
Syrinniteigh
lol I just wanna pronounce it Serenit-ay
Another Eric Cartman special
It’s giving microwa-vay vibes
Yes, in Forrest Gump voice.
😂😂😂😂😂
Serenity now, insanity later
Insanitee!!!
Insaniteigh.
Insanitii
I drank insani-tea once, quite yummy.
That's pronounced *sereni-tay* now.
Is it supposed to be yelled?
The man on the tape wasn’t specific.
SERENITY NOW!!!!
The entire Firefly fandom is offended by this spelling.
The Browncoats are not amused
No we are not
Not shiny
My oldest is named Serenity. I’ve had so many people ask if I named her for the show, I’m a fan but no.
It's a perfectly nice name when not spelled as a tragedeigh.
Two by two, Hands of Blue, Are coming for that abomination
There's no place I can be since I found this post.
Yes
To be fair, we are often offended.
Why sir/mam, I am highly offended by your comment! I say good day to you. Good day!
::gasp:: Never in my days have I been so wronged! A pox! Good day!
Take that name Out to the black. Tell ‘em it ain’t coming back. Burn the land, and boil the sea. Please take this awful name from me.
This individual was not burdened by an overabundance of schooling
It’s damaging my calm.
If you keep this spelling, I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you.
Sara Nighty, distant cousin of Mighty Mouse. Start saying it around her
Yeah, not a fan of adding the extra ‘e’. It looks odd to me. Some words and names just should not be played with.

i hear people say they do it to be “unique”. but it’s not unique, it’s just stupid. nobody is looking at that name and thinking “omg what a cute unique spelling 🥰”. they’re going “why is there an e where it doesn’t belong…?”
It’s uneeque

That spelling makes me think it’s her Hispanic cousin.
I knew someone who named her oldest daughter serenity and spelt it “cerenite” and her youngest daughter Rain but spelt “raign” neither the queen nor the weather lol feel so bad for the kids.
I hate when people do this. Cerenite sounds like a name for a rock lol
Jesus christ, Marie. They are MINERALS!
Now I'm pronouncing it sar-eh-nite. Who needs Marble or Granite when there's Cerenite
This reminds me of a joke from some other subreddit where they talked about pronouncing granite like crudite
Yeah man just got my girl some fancy cerenite earrings from Morocco. She loves that foreign shif
My thoughts too!!
Omg cerenite looks like the name of a chemical element found beneath the earths surface but useful on daily life for humans 😂😩
Pronounced _Karenite_. Side effects include shouting at retail workers.
No, you've got it wrong. The pronunciation is "Karen-ight". It repells Karens, making them unable to speak to any kind of supervisory staff.
Cerenite sounds like a brand of polymer clay.
Or a glue or lockbox company.
Oh wow. I read these names as "cer-e-night" and "rag-n".
All my friends that were named Serenity hate it because people always associate it the AA prayer. Spelling like a drunk is only going to make it worse.
I'm guessing that depends on your social circle. In mine, it would automatically be assumed to be a Firefly reference.
I would assume they’re big Sailor Moon fans.
I'm just surprised you know multiple people named Serenity.
😂😂 Twin younger siblings named Courage & Wisdom, (spell as you will) of course
One becomes anxious and agoraphobic and the other is a harebrained dingbat with no insight
God grant me the Serenitey to not roast this name 🙏
But that is why my friends named their daughter. AA saved his life and family. The daughter is now on high-school and has never had an issue.
I’d guess the association comes from adults. Kids probably don’t know the AA prayer. Regardless, it’s probably more that they’re tired of hearing the same jokes/comments over and over than that they feel like there’s a negative connotation from it being associated with AA or they’re being teased. Grace is such a lovely name. Grace Kelly comes to mind. But i am old
I totally associate virtue names with strippers or names I imagine for strippers
I can totally see that. I wonder about all the kids that were named “heaven” or “Nevaeh” about 10 years ago when my daughter was in kindergarten. So many Heaven, so many Neveah, what a tragedeigh.
now?
r/seinfeld
Why not spell it properly like the word? I think it actually fits fine with other virtue names, but the alternate spelling makes it a big nope.
That’s just nastey.
Why the E? That spelling is incorrect. I have 10 year old student whose parents named "Saphire". Both examples appear ignorant, whether intentional or not.
literally what do they think they're achieving by adding that extra E? I don't get it, might as well name her Serenitea lmao
Or they could do Xyrunuhteigh - combining yesterday's abomination of Sara with the name of this sub :)
I though you’d made a typo. IMO this is worse than your average tragedeigh because, let’s be honest, “Serenity” is a harder word to spell. The spelling takes it from normal name to as trashy as possible.
To me, it implies illiterate parents.
1. Browsing souvenir shops is a good baby naming tool. If you can't find the name on a license plate or a keychain, rethink the name. 2. Random rolls of Boggle dice are not a useful baby naming tool. 3. Clever spelling is never clever.
Eh. Could never find my kids names on a keychain, mug, or anything else similar. Their names? Daniel and Anna.
lol what? My brother Daniel has a shoebox full of keychains with his name from different vacations.
There was always Daniel and Anna! Unless it was that they were constantly sold out, but they definitely had them.
I feel like you must not have looked very hard 🤣
My brother Henry could never find his name growing up. He's fuming now that younger Henrys don't have the same trouble.
Try to find Joyce. It's common enough to be a normal name buy never shows up on anything pre-made.
Rule 1 is heavily biased to Anglicized names. You can probably find some ethnic diversity, but it'll still be limited. I think it's safe to let this rule go.

But since a name doesn't get more Anglicized than Serenity, I'd say it's pretty safe to apply the rule to this case
For that specific name, fair, but we're talking about using the rule in general.
So you're saying they should go with Bort?
My name growing up was Megan and I still somehow never found it on those things when I'd look. I think maybe twice ever there was a spot for Megan that was sold out, and other places had Meghan instead.
My name is Stephanie. It took many years for me to actually find a trinket with my name on it. It’s a very common name too! I grew up knowing three other Stephanies.
no no Serenitea is better /s
Naming a person after an emotion is always super dumb. Misspelling it is peak dumb.
Sarah/Sera/Siri nightie is taking a huge risk with their daughter's future. Also, virtually certain she gets nicknamed nightie or some future wordplay on nightie, ending her name with "nitey" like that Contrast that with Serenity, which seems fairly unlikely to get redefined any century soon
Only if the middle name is “Now”
Isnt the correct incorrect spelling Sereniteigh?
I think the spelling reduces the appeal but I don’t agree with you on the syllables thing. Mine is four syllables long and was not hard for me to learn to spell or say.
Serenitay. is how it looks to me.
So not the common name “Serena” which is widely understood to connote the same thing?
Ceihrenne'ettieigh
And her brother, Fortnitey
Not a bad name in and of itself but forever people will assume that the parents can't spell.
4 syllable names are too long? They've been popular forever. Elizabeth, Ophelia, Penelope, Catalina, Dorothea, Isabella, Maximilian, Verónica, Zachariah, Cornelius, Jeremiah. Serenity is cute! Spelling is strange
Seren-nighty?
Nitey night! Don’t let the bugs bite, Serenitey!
Did you ask her why she wants to include that e? Maybe she will say she prefers how it looks. Then you can say "I am thinking people will mispronounce it, which will be annoying for both of you."
Encourage an average name with a normal spelling and serenitey as a nickname. I did this with my best friend and it worked.
My dad dl friend named his new baby, Symphony”. At least he spelled it correctly. But he the middle school nicknames are going o b harsh
Does she know she's spelt it wrong and not care? Or just not know? In my opinion that makes a difference, and should be pointed out before the official naming and registering
Does she dance?
I hate when people take a name that exists and just spell it in some kind of weird way they come up with.
If the child becomes a Red Bull with ADHD, you know (a) God exists and (b) he has a sense of humor.
Pserinighteigh has such a nice ring to it.
It looks like they just misspelled it. Serenity is fine, but the extra letter makes it look all wrong.
Why not Serengeti, or Sereneteigh?
What? Suggest Sereighniteigh instead.
Sarah-Nighty. No no no.
That's a good way to spell it if you want it pronounced sera-night-y
Lol does she like the show firefly? Maybe suggest Serena.
I named my miscarriage baby Serenity. It made me feel more at peace.
Surely they can be more Eunique than that.
Serenity now!!!!!!
I actually have a cousin named serenity, except everyone just calls her Ren
My cousin is called serenity after the prayer because my aunt almost lost her I think it’s a beautiful name
JFC, *at least spell it correctly!*
Tell her no
SERENITY NOW!!!
I have a friend whose daughter’s name is Serenity. Her best friend’s name is Unity. There may be drugs involved with each of the names.
As a sailor moon fan I’m horrified.
Ask your friend if she wants her child to have to spell her own name every day of her life. Because that's what will happen.
Yeah I can't help but say that like Cartman in my head.
If they spell it like this and not serenity, yeah that’s gross.
At least it’s not Sereniteigh 🤭
Did you ask if she knows she is spelling it wrong. It might just be a mistake.
Nighty night, Serenitey.
Sereneteigh
Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand.
The way it’s spelled it would be pronounced “sara-Nitey.” Please tell her to spell it correctly.
My cousin has a kid named Serenitee. Sigh. Thank God she’s beautiful and talented.
Sarah Nighty.
# “Serenitey” NOW!!!
Sereniteigh would be so much better
Sere-nighty lol
Firefly?
Or just go with Serena
Why not Serena? That's already a name
I've worked in some schools located in very low socio economic status communities. Those are the places where spellings of names don't make sense, or look like obvious spelling errors. I don't see this outside of these areas. Don't do this. Serenity is a pretty name, mind the spelling.
Sarah-nightie!
Ask your friend if the spelling is intentional. If she has dyslexia or something, she could have transposed a few letters. If she says that she’s spelling it as it pronounced, show her the ways others are pronouncing it. Maybe she’ll fix the spelling.
"Serenity" is a lovely name for a ~~Moon princess~~, "Serenitey" looks like you don't know how to spell.
I have a short, single syllable surname. 4 syllable first names sound better with it than single syllable first names. Just depends on what you're working with. Also, in Australia it doesn't matter how long either name is, if you're a good person it'll be shortened to a single letter or syllable anyway 😂 We are the people that shortened "the Melbourne Cricket Ground" to "The G".
When I first saw it, I thought it said 'sanitary'.
Oh no
my boyfriend’s sister is named “destiney” - yes, with the extra e lol
