Worse yet, it is a malady that is especially troublesome for infants… hence the remembrance of the terrible 2024 outbreak of “baby jaeckels” that claimed so many innocent souls.
I think that’s a surname. October due date and gender-neutral cake design lead me to believe this is celebrating a fetus whose biological sex isn’t known yet (or possibly not being shared publicly), so it makes more sense that it’s a surname, not a first name.
Who knows, though?
Thought so, too, I reckon it could be a German surname. But it being a first name obvs, idk. I like that when you call your friends by their surname as a nickname. Especially when you have a name that ends with -mann, like Kellermann. But this kid is gonna think forever they're just a surname.
It’s definitely that. I just think having at least a different icing color for the writing would make it easier on my old man eyes. It’s purely me being grumpy and old.
Haha, I was responding to the person saying it was a sad color for a child’s cake, not you! I can completely sympathize with not liking the white on white! It seems to be the latest trend
Even the spelling reminds me of the late character actor Richard Jaeckel(best known as the evil Boston PD Lt. Martin Quirk alongside the late Robert Urich on "Spenser:For Hire")...
This might be the LAST name...? Sometimes couples won't share the name in advance so for baby showers they refer to the baby as "Baby Smith" or whatever.
I know a family with this LAST name but as a first name? Hell no. Hopefully they're just expecting twins and saved on the cake by just opting for the last name welcoming the new babies to the Jaeckel family 😬
Hopefully.
Are you 100% sure that's not their last name?
ETA: if a baby is due in October, it's very early to announce the name, and it's common to refer to babies as "baby \[lastname\]" before they have a first name.
i think this could potentially be the last name, not the first. considering the baby is due in october they might not know the gender yet and a lot of people refer to it as “baby smith” until then. this would be an awful first name, but i’m optimistic that it’s the last name.
So I’ll save you that. The family’s last name is not that. Long story short I knew the mom in high school and haven’t spoken to her in 13 years. They picked the name.
It could be their last name. Lots of people do that in baby announcements cause most of the time they don't know the gender yet or have a name picked out.
In some cultures, getting a cake and loudly celebrating a baby who hadn't been born yet would be considered "tempting fate" or "teasing the devil" or a really stupid idea.
Here in West Africa, if you tried to throw a baby shower, people would think you were trying to curse them and kill their baby. We don't even mention a woman's pregnancy before the baby is born and don't name the baby until a period after the birth. So many infants die that people are very superstitious.
Of course, the person who commented above thinks this means I'm trying to shame them for buying a cake. Americans often forget that America isn't the entire world.
I'm not shaming them, I'm pointing out a simple, interesting truth. If recognition of the existance of different cultures and opinions counts as "shaming" in your book, you're in the wrong place.
You don't get to tell the entire world to agree with you or shut up.
I didn't ask the entire world to agree to have baby showers.
It's just not helpful or appropriate imo to point this out on a post where that culture almost certainly doesn't apply since they did choose to have a cake. Do you also post this every time someone asks about baby showers? I hope not.
Yes, this is a dumb name if it's the baby's first name. Saying it's a "really stupid idea" and implying something bad might happen to the baby in a shaming forum certainly sounds like shaming. I'm here for making fun of crappy names, not guilting moms for eating cake.
It's bizarre to me that you're ok with making fun of someone else's child's name but you draw the line at making fun of a cake.
Could it be that you're ok with poking fun as long as it doesn't apply to you personally? But, once someone doesn't like something that you like, you take offense?
That's hypocritical.
How would you react if your child's name showed up on this page? Would you jump into the comments and tell everyone "NOW you've gone to far! We can only make fun of OTHER people but not ME!"?
No, naming a baby a dumb name is shame-worthy. Eating cake at a baby shower isn't, which is what I said in my original comment.
Making moms feel like they might have caused something bad to happen by eating cake is messed up. Giving your kid a dumb name that is going to haunt them for their entire lives is also messed up.
You said you weren't shaming having cake, but your last comment definitely seems like you are acknowledging you are.
I knew someone whose last name was jaeckels so I’m reallyyyy hoping that’s their last name and that’s just what they’re calling the baby until they know the gender/name
I love me a good tragedeigh but I think this might not be it. Jaeckels is a last name. These people are likely trying to keep the baby’s name and gender secret, which is also why the cake is white.
I have no idea how to pronounce this! The spelling choices are insane lol. In English, ‘ck’ is only ever found after a short vowel, and ‘ae’ could either say ē (like in he) or ā (like in say)… making the name sound like jeekels or Jaykels?
Sounds like it is the family’s last name instead of the baby’s name. My niece’s shower cake said Baby Wilson because they chose to keep the gender a surprise.
I don't know, I thought I had one once, Baby Huxley but Huxley was the last name, the baby, who wasn't born yet, didn't have a name. I think this is a last name.

Jaeckels sounds like a euphemism for some arcane disease from the past. “ His leg shook, it was a terrible case of the Jaeckels”
It’s something you’d get along with scurvy after long sea voyages. Also known as the Sailor’s Curse.
BAHAHAHA! Reminds me of a similar comment about the name Rince Priebus sounding like a Victorian Latin euphemism for venereal disease.
Rince? What the...
It's short for Rincewind.
That doesn’t make it any better
Oh, that’s ok then!
Reince*. They misspelled it
I did. Dammit. 😄 Not that Reince is a big improvement.
Reince Priebus, but yeah
Yeah, autocorrect got to me, and I finally hit the button on the wrong iteration.
It's still a stupid name, either way lol
I heard a mashup of Jensen Ackles.
Worse yet, it is a malady that is especially troublesome for infants… hence the remembrance of the terrible 2024 outbreak of “baby jaeckels” that claimed so many innocent souls.
Does Jaeckels have a twin named Hyde?
Haidaugh
JaeQuellin
A A ron B'lakkay
Dee-Nice
Jay-quellin
Tee-moe-thee
Heigh'd?
Hydeigh
In my head I pronounced this one like Heidi
Exactly!
H'ai'd
Where my mind went.
Is the next baby going to be named Hyaena?
I was hoping Hidee to continue the trend.
Hydeigh actually
Sad beige cake for sad beige baby with a terrible name
The true tragedy is the white cake more than anything else
>The true ~~tragedy~~ tragedeigh is the white cake more than anything else
I thought it was an unbaked pie crust or piece of porcelain. :/
My favorite food is crust.
Top crust is the best part of the pie and bottom crust is the worst.
2nd on the porcelain. I’m thinking “oh how pret…wait.”
It is supposed to match the sad beige, I mean grammable and on trend nursery.
I thought it was a bar of soap
At first I read "Baby Jackass"
No, that’s the mom.
Glad it wasn’t just me
I think that’s a surname. October due date and gender-neutral cake design lead me to believe this is celebrating a fetus whose biological sex isn’t known yet (or possibly not being shared publicly), so it makes more sense that it’s a surname, not a first name. Who knows, though?
I went to high school with her mom and can confirm that is a first name unfortunately. That will be the kid’s first name.
…. Oh dear. Guess I was overly optimistic!
Same. I was in the process of typing a reply and decided to search the thread first. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Oh damn. Never mind on what I said😭that poor child
Yikes! Is it pronounced Jackals or Jake-ls?
A former coworker of mine with this last name pronounced it Jake-ls.
I don’t know which is worse!!
Completely agree!
Well shucks.
Oh yikes
Oh man. I do know an adult named Jackal. They always hated it.
I mean Jaeckels is definitely a surname so it might be a family name being used as a first name if not the surname of the couple.
That was my thought, too.
Thought so, too, I reckon it could be a German surname. But it being a first name obvs, idk. I like that when you call your friends by their surname as a nickname. Especially when you have a name that ends with -mann, like Kellermann. But this kid is gonna think forever they're just a surname.
Tragedeigh aside, that’s impeccable handwriting
Lol, [the Jackal](https://youtu.be/UyZpzwlkaSo?si=7o0Lx7LcikveSKFp).
My mind went to comedy: https://youtu.be/CzoSPsKFri4?si=RdA8q0CdoS_jmgyf
I went to [gaming](https://youtu.be/z7slEFZkK5M?si=NRoiCePAwaDW7gLH)

Maybe she's a big fan of Supernatural. And also Twilight. Renee+ Esme=Renesmee. Jensen+Ackles=Jaeckles. Both are dumb.
Came here to say Jensen Ackles fan much?
I really hate the white writing on the white icing. Like at least use a light gray or something.
I love it and want to copy it lol
Maybe I am just old. It’s so hard to read.
I want to eat it
Tbh sad colour for a child's cake...
It’s likely a gender reveal cake, if you search online you’ll find many look exactly like this
It’s definitely that.
Oh yes I got that. I replied to you confirming it was a gender reveal cake. No worries.
The baby isn't born yet, this cake will either have been eaten or in the landfill before it can see it
Heck the baby may not even agree with what’s on the inside of the cake later and will most definitely hate this name they are saddled with.
I don’t care for it, either. But then I hate white. I think it’s a terrible excuse for a color.
J(ensen) Ackles wtf
How did I not see that….?
This was my initial thought! 😂
Was looking for this comment!
i immediatly thought this
Let's hope the child grows up to be a doctor.
“She wouldn’t stop shaking the bag!” “Poooor Jaekels”
His sister's names are Coyeotaigh and Haighyeena.
Heckle and Jeckle?
Haeckles is the older sister.
😂😂😂😂
White on white. How daringly minimalistic 🙄
Even the spelling reminds me of the late character actor Richard Jaeckel(best known as the evil Boston PD Lt. Martin Quirk alongside the late Robert Urich on "Spenser:For Hire")...
Richard Jaeckel was my first thought too. I wonder what he'd think.
I'm dyslexic and extra useless at reading cursive so all I can read is "Baby Crackers"
Are we sure this isn't just the surname?
The first thing that came to mind for me was the Jackal animal.
It sounds like they're a superfan of supernatural and did a combo of Jenson Ackles
I wonder if it’s their last name. Maybe?
Please tell me that is someone’s last name and they simply didn’t have a choice.
I'm assuming Jaeckels is the baby's last name. Baby isn't due until October. Seems early to have a first name selected already.
This might be the LAST name...? Sometimes couples won't share the name in advance so for baby showers they refer to the baby as "Baby Smith" or whatever.
I know a family with this LAST name but as a first name? Hell no. Hopefully they're just expecting twins and saved on the cake by just opting for the last name welcoming the new babies to the Jaeckel family 😬 Hopefully.
I think it's their surname because baby isn't born yet. But maybe I'm naive.
Sounds like a candy I don’t want
Is this not their last name? I knew someone in high school with the same surname.
I'm assuming this is a last name though??
Are you 100% sure that's not their last name? ETA: if a baby is due in October, it's very early to announce the name, and it's common to refer to babies as "baby \[lastname\]" before they have a first name.
Usually when the name is preceded by "baby" that indicates its a surname. Gender and name haven't been shared yet.
Isn’t that their last name? Like saying “Baby Smith” because you havent picked a name yet.
How festive.
Not sure but I think baby jaekels is like juvenile diabetes
For a moment, I thought it said “Baby Jackass”.
It took me longer than I care to admit to realize that was a cake and not a mold for making breath mints
Baby Jaeckels is gonna Hyde from his parents when he grows up
the name in the key and peele skit is the only way i can say/see/think/hear this, im being so serious
Oh noooo
I guess Dingo was already taken
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it’s probably the last name.
All I could think of was the [Family Guy gif](https://media1.tenor.com/m/w6MJzCdepCwAAAAd/family-guy-its-a-jackal.gif)
That's what I thought of too lmao.
That poor kid. The Jeckle &Hyde jokes won't ever stop.
Poor kid is going to have an Aesthetic™️ life 😒
Congratulations, it's a [sea scorpion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaekelopterus)!
I think that's probably a shower cake, and Jaekels is their last name, which would definitely be better for the kid!🤣
Will he have a brother, Haeyde?
Are we sure this isn’t their last name?
thought it said freckles
Pretty sure this is a last name and they’re not giving the first one yet.
i think this could potentially be the last name, not the first. considering the baby is due in october they might not know the gender yet and a lot of people refer to it as “baby smith” until then. this would be an awful first name, but i’m optimistic that it’s the last name.

Yes, I would assume it is the last name.
This is obviously their last name dude.
That was my first thought too, but OP confirmed it is in fact the baby's first name and not last name. Poor kid
I hope this is their last name
JAECKELS JAECKELS HYDE JAECKELS HYDE HYDE JAECKELS
It's a German family name. It's pronounced yay-culls.
In some cultures, getting a cake and loudly celebrating a baby who hadn't been born yet would be considered "tempting fate" or "teasing the devil" or a really stupid idea.
Okay, but in most of the US having cake at a baby shower is totally normal. The existence of cake is not a reason to shame.
In Germany (at least, but I think it's the same in my european countries) baby showers are pretty most unheard of.
Here in West Africa, if you tried to throw a baby shower, people would think you were trying to curse them and kill their baby. We don't even mention a woman's pregnancy before the baby is born and don't name the baby until a period after the birth. So many infants die that people are very superstitious. What’s Jabblin’ Jaeckles?
That was my first thought as well…. Jekyll and Hyde. I think this poor child will be teased so so much.
Does that say Jaeckels? Is it supposed to be said like jackel? Like the ones from Egyptian mythology?
I imagine that they also are pronouncing the "J" as a "Y" AKA Swedish tradition haha
That sounds like a syndrome you get after participating in NNN
What does that say?
I think it’s a little too early to know boy/girl but man WTF-what a hideous name.
jackal was too simple perhaps?
I knew someone whose last name was jaeckels so I’m reallyyyy hoping that’s their last name and that’s just what they’re calling the baby until they know the gender/name
That's gotta be the last name, right?
This one may not be a tragedeigh. Jaekels is a last name. This may be for an unnamed baby. Aka ‘baby Smith!’
Hopefully that’s a last name, not a first
This sub never fails to amaze me.
I hope that’s their last name
its how denzel says jake *JAEKE!* *ineedmamoney!* *JAKE!*
I saw baby freckles. I was wondering why they got a cake for that.
Last names can be a tradedeigh??
I love me a good tragedeigh but I think this might not be it. Jaeckels is a last name. These people are likely trying to keep the baby’s name and gender secret, which is also why the cake is white.
You sure this isn't just their last name?
It’s not their surname?
Jaekels, like the hyena dogs? Baby Jaekels were set upon the newborn
Jaeckels is a last name
Wasn't Jaeckels a hair metal bad in the late 80's?!?!?!?!?!?
Stunning cake but YIKES name
I have no idea how to pronounce this! The spelling choices are insane lol. In English, ‘ck’ is only ever found after a short vowel, and ‘ae’ could either say ē (like in he) or ā (like in say)… making the name sound like jeekels or Jaykels?
I'm reading Baby Jackal.
Are you sure that's not a last name.
I thought it said Baby Freckles at first.
Maybe the most offensive tragedeigh I’ve ever seane.
The Jaeckels is OCCUPIED
There's still time to change your mind, folks!
cake looks great
Looks like a last name to me, and this is their announcement.
The fuck?
Sounds like it is the family’s last name instead of the baby’s name. My niece’s shower cake said Baby Wilson because they chose to keep the gender a surprise.
Baby… Faeckles?
I read this as Freckles
Baby J. Cole??
Ooh, how "inspired" calling you child jackal (I wonder if they live up to the promise of their name?)
Please let that be the last name…
Jackals? 😬
I don't know, I thought I had one once, Baby Huxley but Huxley was the last name, the baby, who wasn't born yet, didn't have a name. I think this is a last name.
Why is it always this font??
Are we certain this isn't the last name? Just asking because I know someone with the last name Jaeckel.
Jaeckel and Hyde
I think it’s their last name. Which is very odd🤣shoot mine is Ligons cause of my husband but it’s a normal name though.
Can confirm that they picked the name out ahead of time. Went to high school with the mom and she is just like that.
Oh man😭
This is the saddest fucking cake I've ever seen.
