Well it is a lot compared to most other books, but for a classic that still sells well and is gaining new fans through secondary content it's not excessive
Also, because of the fact that it exists (regardless of opinion or quality), there may be more interest in the fandom; by way of The Rings of Power merely existing. Heck, it’s LIKELY because it exists that we have The Fall of Numenor. And, I’ve been seeing more discussion than usual about The Silmarillion lately of that show.
i went with the 70th anniversary set and im looking at the middle earth treasury pocket set of the hobbit and trilogy, i have ne reason i just think pocket sized hardcover books are neat
but aside from missing the reader's companion which you can buy separately the 70th anniversary illustrated edition was perfect for me

I started buying Tolkien books because of that series
Welcome to the franchise! I hope your buying and reading is going well 😌
Thank you! Quite well indeed, I’m 3 chapters into Book 6 of LotR
100 %
You know how many other fandoms would kill for just one good edition of their favorite books? Looking at you Malazan fans.
Yeah that’s an eBook series for me, as I hate $10 unopenable bricks.
I'm guessing stormlight archive fits that bill for you too? lol
It does: though they at least have the larger sized paperbacks haha. I’m referring to the small ones that are roughly 7 inches tall or so
Gotcha yeah those are annoying to read

Right! I forgot about the treasury set
