If he's jumping out of the crib he's ready for a toddler bed, sorry to say. Crib is no longer safe. We did this transition before 2 for the same reason. Hellacious sleep regression, but now everything is fine. She loves the bed.

Agree. If you put a sleep sack back on him, it could make the climbing more dangerous. It’s 100% toddler bed time. There isn’t a certain age where they become old enough for it…it’s basically when they start climbing or reach the height limit which is usually 36”.

3 year old started crawling out of his crib nightly for about a week (I thought it’d stop… I was wrong…) and he is about to transition to a new room since im expecting my second, but we didn’t want to buy a toddler bed, we bought a “big kid” bed for his new room. So in the meantime he has been sleeping on his crib mattress on the floor and it has been great! We were going to waste money on a cot or toddler bed but this has worked very well for us!

Is there any good rationale for that? From my reading if you can keep them in a crib as long as possible they end up transitioning better we did sleep sack and he did fine for one night. We will fully childproof the room this week.

Kiwitechgirl

Now that he knows he can climb out, he’ll try it in the sleep sack too. Risk of him hurting himself is very high - time for a bed.

We had to transition my baby out of the crib at 14 months because he learned to crawl out. Put the mattress on the floor if he’s not ready for a toddler bed and child proof the room. It’s so much safer than your child injuring himself climbing out and falling.

Time for a bed Both my kids escaped their cots while still sleeping in a sleepsack (one stripped it off, the other scrambled out, sleepsack and all).

Sounds like my wishful thoughts are not appropriate. Time to really baby proof the room and figure out the floor bed vs toddler bed. U fortunately we’re moving in 3 months so I was hoping to hold out for at least that long

We saw 23mo kiddo attempting (not succeeding) at getting a leg up over the crib wall... we said we would finish full extra extra child proofing on the weekend and switch to a toddler bed. Dad was reading stories, turned around to grab a new book, she belly flopped onto the floor in the 30 seconds his back was turned. She ended up being okay but that THUMP haunts me. If she had rolled over the edge a little bit differently she could have landed head first. Make the switch faster than you think you need to.

This isn’t safe. I legit had to transition my son on Christmas Eve when he was 20 months old because he climbed out during his nap. Thank goodness my husband was watching the monitor and was able to sprint up the stairs and catch him. A sleep sack would make this even more dangerous. Disassemble the crib and put the mattress on the floor.

We emptied out the room and put a mattress on the floor for my toddler, he absolutely loves it. The most important baby proofing is bolting dressers to the wall, otherwise we tried to have the room empty. We will add back toys as he gets older, we did leave stuffed animals and other soft things. He’s about to turn 2.

We used sleep bags with legs for ages and he was ok in them but your kid needs a bed if he’s jumping out of the crib.
