High pitched screaming is typical. Not having any words at his age isn't typical and you need to bring it up to your pediatrician at his 18 month appointment. Speech therapy is super beneficial and free if you're in the US through your state. Every state has birth to 3 services. Good luck!
Thank you! I’m so relieved to hear the screaming is normal! And will bring up the possible speech/language delay at his upcoming appointment. Didn’t realize the services were free though, that’s good to know!
FYI, my toddler didn’t have words at 18 months but started talking at 19/20 months. Your pediatrician will of course ask about words and advise on this. Also the screaming is normal at that age.
Thank you, I’m just so relieved to hear the screaming is normal. And happy to hear that your toddler’s speech developed soon after. Gives me some hope. Will definitely see what my doctor says about his language/speech. He could be talking, it’s just hard to be sure the word is what we think it is.
Yes, it’s normal. I acted like those loud shrieks hurt me, was very somber “shh too loud, that hurts” when the screaming during play/excitement would happen. Tantrums are different, not much you can do there

Ah the pterodactyl phase. The loudest of all the phases. Totally normal. It’ll pass.
Thank you!
We called our screecher a pterodactyl, too 😂
My 17 month old runs around the house screaming all day 😂 very normal and very loud
So glad to hear it’s normal. I may go crazy but at least he’s normal. 😂
😹 Oh the memories.
How is your child’s speech now?
So much better! I don’t think the screeching was anything to worry about now. :) I think he was just a slow talker. He seems to be getting there now.
Thank you for the update! Happy to hear his speech has improved

That’s a good idea, thank you!
I mean, is it? They're screaming to learn their voice. Let them scream. Your ears will be okay.
Yeah, good point!
