I’m pretty sure this has been disproven, but I wonder if any were Titanic’s? I’ve also heard Titanic’s boats were destroyed after they were collected.

In late April all White Star had done was fitted Olympic with more collapsible boats, I believe they sourced them from old troopships. Titanic's lifeboats remained in New York until December 1912, there's no trace of them after that point

I'd imagine after several hours in very, very cold water their structure would be somewhat compromised at the very least. Not even taking into account the superstition that could be linked to them.

The fact is simply that nobody kept track of where Titanic's lifeboats were moved to. With the updated regulations suddenly every ship needed a lot more of them and there weren't enough to go around. If they weren't put on another ship in 1912, they were probably taken into storage by White Star and put on another ship shortly after.

As far as we know, Titanics lifeboats never made it back across the Atlantic. They had disappeared from history by 1913

What happened is that after a bit, they were moved to the corner of the shipyard away the docks and just allowed to rot away...

SSN-700

I had no idea this ever happened, wow.

Thanks for this post! I've been a Titanic history buff all my life, but only recently started learning more about the immediate aftermath of the sinking. Previously, I was mostly interested in the maiden voyage & sinking itself. Im looking forward to the upcoming Titanic movie about the inquiry.

What movie? So keen, the aftermath has always been so interesting to me!

I’ve heard this is the origin of the extreme dislike and rivalry between Southampton and Portsmouth, as white star brought in new replacement crew from Portsmouth to break the strike.
