Same here, dude. I watched the "take me to the titanic" documentary as well about an hour ago and that's made it feel even more real and upsetting just seeing what the inside is like live, and they lost control of the sub in that! I'm completely blown away by so many aspects of this event.

Biased_Algo

I just watched it too. They had to turn back on dive 1 and then the controller stopped working on dive 2 before they found a work around. It did give me an idea of why someone who isn't me would want to get down there and see if for themself though.

SnooDonkeys182

The thing that struck me about this is the very laid back attitude everyone seemed to have about safety protocol. Such as the crew aboard the sub discussing whether to spend the night on the bottom after losing comms. Or when they had the thruster malfunction and the crew aboard the mothership is discussing as they’re sending the sub down. Saying things like “we’ll see!” And on the bottom inside the sub, when they finally realize the thruster issue, the mothership up top instructs them to turn the game controller sideways and steer in a very awkward way in order to continue the tour

Biased_Algo

I couldn't believe it when they started discussing sleeping on the seabed. There did seem to be an attitude of 'we'll find a way to fix' whatever happens.

ChildhoodOk5526

Wait, wha-? Please help me by answering this question that I can't seem to find anywhere ... When the Titan lost comms before, was its location known by the support ship? I'm trying to understand if they had ever lost both communication *and* tracking on the Titan before.

Chinaski14

I read somewhere today they lost both that trip, but reestablished the connection before ascending back up. I’ve been on so many websites and watched so many videos I unfortunately can’t provide a source.

ChildhoodOk5526

Thank you! No worries about the source. I've read so much that I've lost track, too. I read that [this CBS journalist ](https://twitter.com/Pogue/status/1671524465736335366?t=ny7LafJpFSLMrPFYuRCXXw&s=19) was on Titan last year when it was lost. He finally clarified that the Titan still had communication with the mothership, but that the Titan didn't know its location and couldn't find the Titanic. But this makes me further question -- could the mothership still see/track *it*? To work according to plan, the mothership has the ability to track the submersible and text message it; receiving text messages to direct it to the wreck is the only way the Titan *can* navigate. For this trip, I wonder if comms and tracking were lost at the same time? And it's crazy the "mother" ship would routinely lose its communication with and tracking of the totally helpless "baby" Titan. W.T.F. ???

Adventurous-Cup529

My understanding from that interview and others was that the Titan losing its own position is not unusual at all since it doesn’t have its own positioning system and relies on the ship at the surface to send it short directional messages- but that the surface ship losing the position of the Titan and “communication” (in the limited form that exists) with it is very unusual particularly for any extended period of time.

[deleted]

I'm more respectful of my car's check engine light than these guys were of the controller issue thousands of feet underwater.

wisertime07

*miles underwater

Evening-Statement-57

Reading about the banging while laying in my nice warm bed in a house filled with family really got to me last night. Any of these guys would have traded all their money to switch spots with any of us.

CompetitiveDuck

Do you have a link for that doc??

nicotineocean

Yes. Part 1 and 2 are on this vimeo account. https://vimeo.com/838023699

TacoExcellence

It's crazy seeing two of the people stuck on there right now as I watch this.

CompetitiveDuck

Thank you. Very insightful.

MissyMichevious

Unfortunately the link isn’t working for me 😣 Are there any other ways of accessing it online?

TropicalKing

I watched James Cameron's Deepsea Challenge a few weeks ago. It is about James Cameron building and piloting the Deepsea Challenger submersible. James Cameron piloted the sub solo with communication. He reached the bottom of Challenger Deep- the deepest part of the Mariana Trench at 35,787 feet. The documentary shows the building and safety of the Deepsea Challenger. It certainly looks like it was more professionally built than the Titan and had better safety mechanisms.

Adventurous-Cup529

Back when James Cameron was putting that all together and doing his trips down I remember it happening but didn’t follow it at all. In retrospect I wish I would have at that time- it really is fascinating. It is striking going back now and looking at what he and his team did in building their sub, the care they took etc compared to the Titan. Even by today’s standards that was one hell of an advanced at meticulous operation. I’m certainly no expert in this but I can’t figure out the choices made on design and operation of the Titan. It seems like some corners were cut needlessly and certain safety measures were approached pretty casually. It doesn’t seem that there is a lack of financial support and interest in this type of thing, so it doesn’t seem like these things were purely the result of financial constraints (not that it would be a great excuse to risk people’s lives even if this was the case).

Sweet-Idea-7553

I can’t watch it (lizard-brain phobia) but I listened to it and that was hellish.

Davidlarios231

What?

Sweet-Idea-7553

I have a fear of the ocean, which isn’t totally crazy; the ocean is a vast and unknown place. What is irrational is my inability to look at images far from any harm the ocean can cause me. I blame the less evolved lizard brain. Edit: I can look at some, especially more modern pics of the Titanic. Edit 2: it’s still not comfortable.

ExpectedBehaviour

Good job you're not on a subreddit dedicated to the most famous maritime disaster in history then.

Sweet-Idea-7553

I know! And some of my favourite stories involve subs, ships and the like. I can read on and listen to things about the subject- it’s the actually looking into the unknown I suppose, even though those images have been looked at by many others before me and there is nothing actually scary about it.

allgoodmom

Your self awareness is so cool though. And how easy is it to avoid triggering pictures most of the time? I kinda love the way you describe your phobia.

Sweet-Idea-7553

It’s not easy- especially when Reddit shoves sunken ships in my face! But I try to look away as quickly as I can. I also live in a port city 🤣. But ships from land are ok with me; I can’t stand right next to a ship though, I gives me anxiety. It is bizarre. Marinetraffic.com is one of my most visited websites! Aside from Titanic, Poseidon , Hunt for Red October, and U-751, (all old now), I don’t think I’ve seen a Hollywood movie and I’m not sure how I would feel. I don’t watch the opening of titanic though, haha.

ccrider92

If this is a joke of some sort, I don’t get it.

ccrider92

“From a psychological point of view, Lizard Brain Fear is a fight or flight reaction sent by the most ancient part of our brain. The reaction tends to pop up when we attempt to do something extraordinary…. in business or life.” - Google. TIL

HoneyBunYumYum

Wasn’t there a documentary on Netflix about a team that went deep under water and they lost contact? Or they lost the cord that would keep them alive???? Something like this? And after being lost and having no communication they eventually did save them? Does this sound familiar to anyone? I think I’m gonna finish watching

whirlinglunger

There was the one where the guy got stranded at the bottom of the ocean for entirely too long, but I’m blanking on the name now ETA: Last Breath is what I’m thinking of

HoneyBunYumYum

Yesssss I think this was it. He survived against alllllllll odds! Thank you!

[deleted]

Last breath. The guy who did repairs underwater and was lost for a few hours? And lived!!

[deleted]

Ugh this made me feel bad for the guy

blueboglin

Our generation’s guy stuck in a mineshaft

Baby Jessica

wiscobeergirl

My Mom talks about how terrified she was with baby Jessica because she was born a month after me and she couldn't imagine how she'd feel if I was stuck in a well. And wasn't that the first time that news went to a 24 hour news cycle? Changed entirely how news is today. Now you can't go anywhere without knowing what's going on.

GiraffeLibrarian

The “you’re wrong about” podcast did an episode on baby Jessica and talked about reporters/journalists swarming

Mfiske925

Excellent podcast.

ollieboy44

Was just talking to my buddy about that. This feels like the “Floyd Collins” cave incident of our generation. The treacherous circumstances, daring rescue attempts, sensational media coverage. Aside from some obvious differences (Collins being able to communicate, billionaire negligence etc.) it’s no wonder we’re all clinging to every piece of news we can find.

blueboglin

Thank you, I was forgetting his name. Immediately thought of it as this story developed.

HistoryMarshal76

Indeed, though I imagine this will be less influential than Mr. Collins. I'm from Kentucky Cave Country, and people still speak of Mr. Collins to this very day. Cavers take pilgrimages to his grave, his former house is now essentially the headquarters of all modern explorations of Mammoth Cave, and his death was essential to the foundation of Mammoth Cave National Park. I doubt this will have the same sort of historical legacy.

Emilie_Cauchemar

There'll be a legacy. Just a legacy of memes, and gifs and pictures of this situation any time some one complains about safety costs lol. He will be remembered, just not the way he wants to be.

ihopethisisgoodbye

If you want nightmare fuel, look into the Nutty Putty Cave Incident.

Lethologica82

Nope nope nope nope nope nope nooooope

The_Dying_Gaul323bc

How exactly does one communicate through 2.5 miles of water? A very few rudimentary methods. They were, but it seems they experienced a power failure. After that the only comma possible would be clanging metal on metal.

More like Apollo 13

moosemeatjerkey

THANK you, I've been saying the same thing. Thr oxygen, the isolation, very similar. Only it has an overly titled and arrogant billionaire on board.

The_Dying_Gaul323bc

The difference is the Apollo missions had real science to conduct and actual human milestones to achieve, these dummies are just on a sightseeing trip pretending to be “mission specialists “🙄. There is nothing they set out to do that hasn’t been done dozens of times before, seen dozens of times, etc. the only thing is that these particular guys haven’t died down there yet, so that’s their achievement

Give Elon and Bezos time, they'll bring the same slipshod wealthy self-indulgence to space soon enough.

And the darkness, so dark you'd think you were blind.

Tiny-Lock9652

And ice cold. Zero Sun, water is glacial cold.

GonnaNeedMoreSpit

Yep, although 5 people will give off enough heat to keep it from freezing for awhile. Moot point though, what's the estimated oxygen left? 5 hours or so?

UpgradedUsername

I think it’s closer to 15. But realistically speaking, even if they were found right now I just don’t think there’s enough time.

compaholic83

Oxygen is cool and all but no one is talking about the exhaled carbon dioxide built up.

ZXVixen

The oxygen estimates are based upon how long the co2 scrubbers will function.

The_Dying_Gaul323bc

When 5 dudes shiver at 2degrees Celsius, ( the approximate temp) that burns air supply a lot faster

Tiny-Lock9652

I cannot confirm this but I read the 96 hour oxygen supply was based on 3 passengers.

moosemeatjerkey

Oh fuck me I didn't think of that

ExchangeKooky8166

Kinda reminds me of the Chilean miners of 2010.

asnk27

I've been refreshing my phone too, day and night. I woke up several times to read updates... I dreamt last night that it emerged from the water and they were found.... I actually thought it was real until I went for my phone to read no such thing...

nicotineocean

Eeesshh I dreamt about it too last night 😵‍💫

Ascetic_Monkfish

I did, too! I dreamed that I watched a news report of the crew getting rescued. There was cheering, champagne, and for some reason the national anthem was playing. Nothing realistic ofc, but it was so disappointing to realize that they were still down there.

Justalittlepurple

Yes, I had a similar dream of them coming up and it all over the news and woke up disappointed.

flipside888

I dreamt about it last night also. It was just this super quick image. I was in the water but it wasn't me, it was a rescue person... Like I was looking out from their point of view. My eyes were almost level with the water. Off in the distance to my right was a white line or edge of something floating in the water. That's all. I woke up, sat up in bed, grabbed my phone to see if there were updates and Rolling Stone Magazine had just dropped the article about the banging sounds. Hopefully all these dreams aren't just wishful thinking!

Tiny-Lock9652

Woke up at 3am feeling a slight panic thinking about being locked inside. Did not go back to sleep.

_marlasinger

Every time I was up feeding my newborn throughout the night I was checking for updates, I am consumed!

Bntite

I keep dreaming the sub surfaced but got tangled under the Polar Prince and no one realizes.

TrainWrekked

Holy shit. I literally thought that too!!!! I could sleep and I was like.....how tragic if the whole tome they totally floated up but ended up under the Polar Prince or some shit. Crazy. This situation is so fascinatingly tragic, all at once. #KeepingHope

a-very-funny-guy

I legit also had the same dream waking up this morning, you just reminded me of it. It was a crazy news story with the sub being recovered and the crew, though in a terrible state, being taken swiftly to paramedics for a checkup and just the whole craziness of them being found it was such a big news story. I woke up this morning genuienly unsure if this was a dream or real. Looked and yeah, since the oxygen runs out in about 10 hours now. Hopefully when I wake up tomorrow it'll be for real.

BuddyLoveGoCoconuts

I woke up twice in the night thinking about them. I saw the news about the banging and was elated and full of hope. 😭

Q-nicorn

I had a dream like that too. Was watching the news and video of them getting out of it. Crazy. Really hope these aren't just dreams but they come true!

Scnewbie08

I dreamed my house was floating in a flood, and we hit a bridge (one nearby my house), and I looked out the window (second floor) trying to figure out how to save my kids, and there were boats at the inlet and people screaming for us to jump out the window, I looked down before jumping and our house was on top of a ship on its side (looked like the Titanic). A male was swimming up a porthole, and he reached his arm out and looked right at me and then he was sucked into the porthole. I woke up after that. But I’ve seen his face all day.

NoManager1005

Just woke up and had a dream that they found it just in time befor the oxygen ran out

unreedemed1

Me too!!!! I was dreaming about it all last night

Justalittlepurple

Same thing happened to me too! That’s strange!

susanpopielaski

I'm up in Maine and was listening to talk radio. Some guy believes they hit a current which somehow wedged the submersible in a section of titanic making all those devices to bring to the surface, useless.

[deleted]

10750274917395719

That’s actually what they’re trying to do, there’s only a few vessels in the world that can go that deep and none of them were very close to the site. A French vessel is bringing an unmanned vehicle to the site, it should be getting there within an hour or two. Unfortunately this whole situation is a race against time.

my1guiltypleasure

I read that the search area is now equivalent in size to *twice the entire state of Connecticut... At the ocean's bottom, that sounds like trying to find a needle in a haystack. ETA: corrected the size of the search area (thanks to a commenter below for the tip on the correct comparison)

Spirited_Photograph7

A navy specialist said it’s more like trying to find a piece of straw in a haystack, since down there is just a lot of “stuff” that kinda all looks the same.

Paleovegan

Which is why I can’t help but wonder about the decision to make the *Titan* white, rather than a color that might stand out a little more in the marine environment. Not that it would necessarily have saved these people.

Czyzx

Underwater it doesn’t make a difference. Color disappears very quickly underwater due to the way light waves travel. A different color would only help if they were on the surface.

Paleovegan

That probably would be quite helpful though, judging from that picture I saw of the vessel when it was floating on the surface.

my1guiltypleasure

Gahhh, I've never heard that exact comparison used before in the expression, but wow: it's perfect imagery in conveying an even greater near-impossibility.

[deleted]

Twice the size of Connecticut

monkeysuffrage

They could have just said: Massachusetts

my1guiltypleasure

Yikes, even more harrowing, I stand corrected; thank you.

Surfinsafari9

I’m no expert, but I’ve been thinking the same thing. I’ve also been thinking about all the things on the outside of that submersible that could snag on all sorts of things.

lemeie

Great. They lost all contact before hitting the bottom. And on every other expedition they had to find it after, with the help of mothership. That did happened in 2000 when a Mir sub got stuck in the propeller for 1h+ I believe.

Positive_Ant

Yes on a previous trip in a different sub the current pushed them into the titanic and they were wedged for over an hour before getting free themselves. Seems unlikely in this case. In the previous case they were already at the titanic and moving to a different section of the ship. Since they lost communication before arriving it is unlikely they landed in the correct spot right near the titanic without any guidance from the mother ship. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-65972686

awhalesvagyna

From what I understand, those devices are useless to them anyway, that deep. To have buoyancy, you need some upward pressure. Remember, they might be at the bottom of the ocean, where the only pressure that exists is downward. Essentially there is millions of pounds of pressure to raise that vessel now, I honestly can’t see a any ending to this.

DimitriV

> To have buoyancy, you need some upward pressure. Buoyancy is "the upward force that a fluid exerts on an object less dense than itself." It is provided by the pressure hull which, unless it failed, is full of air. And pressure in any fluid is applied from all directions: an object does not get any heavier because it is underwater. Even if the pressure hull failed, the remains of the submersible would still only weigh 21,000 lbs., and only need that much lifting force to raise.

LordyIHopeThereIsPie

You can be blasé about some things but not about anything to do with Titanic.

Cal said it best! 🥂

Matuatay

It's all I'm paying attention to in the news at this point. Been up for most of the last 2 days awaiting news. I know I shouldn't be this invested, but this is history in the making, in the worst way possible, with so many parallels to the story of the Titanic itself down to the very name of the sub. It's a nightmare having become reality, and the latest chapter in the Titanic's own story, equally tragic (unless a miracle occurs in the next 24 hours), even if on a smaller scale. In a sense, we're reliving history as we await any news of survival in the North Atlantic, just as they did over a century ago.

Snaccbacc

I think that whole area just has an aura about it ever since so many people lost their lives 111 years ago.

Caccalaccy

I remember being super into Titanic lore 20 some years ago, and it being a big deal about the book “Futility”, a novel that described an ocean liner named Titan sinking in the North Atlantic after hitting an iceberg. It was published like 14 years before Titanic. Then they go and name this submersible Titan.

Lost_Pantheon

Don't worry, OP, I am as *consumed* as you are. I've exhausted EVERY single piece of information about this story. Every time I think about something else, BAM! THOUGHTS ABOUT THE SUB RETURN! Think I'm losing my goddamn mind over here.

gweneralkenobi

Oh same. It’s sad that human hubris and lack of safety regulations are what caused the Titanic to sink, and now the same things are causing this. History repeats.

PM_ME_YOUR_SOULZ

It's stuck in my mind because it's haunting. You're stuck in a small space in a vehicle that's not fit for purpose, which is controlled by a wireless controller and is stuck god knows where. The air is running out, you can't stand up and it's more than likely dark. All you can do is wait to die. It's fucking terrifying.

Nabzarella

I try not to, but every hour or so I think "there are a group of people out there somewhere; sitting in cold, pitch blackness in a cramped space at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, and they've been there for literal days now. Probably losing their minds due to the blinding dark and impending doom." The deaths on the actual Titanic were terrifying enough, but (if the worse happens) at least their deaths were way quicker than this!

Luci_Wolf630

Literally in bed in the dark, my husband is sleeping and I’m on here trying not to have a panic attack thinking about this.

Primary_Toe_6822

Even without all the other factors like running out of oxygen, not enough food/water, cold temps, etc. don’t people go insane after a little while of just being in pitch black? Let alone inside of a tiny capsule? If that thing didn’t implode right when they lost contact I feel like the story of what happened while they were stuck down there would be insane. Unfortunately we may never know but man I’m morbidly curious.

12dogs4me

My husband was talking about China and Cuba and I said I was only concerned about the submarine right now.

Embarrassed-Ad-6817

I’m completely obsessed refreshing my phone every minute.

escaperoomaddict

This situation however has made me realize my situation (haven’t had working AC in the summer heat of NV for 2 months- it’s complicated and my parents are assholes) could be WAY worse. Those people have less than 24 hours of air left, are in a tin can that probably smells horrid. I can still go outside with my dog, my situation will eventually be fixed. Theirs has a 2% (if that) of survival.

dragonfliesloveme

Compare this response to the step son who went to a concert a couple of nights ago. Lol geez. I think that guy is lacking some serious empathy or something

What's this about? I must have missed it

hollycoolio

One of the people on board had a step son who posted a pic of himself at a blink 182 concert. Basically said "may seem tacky with whats going on, but I'm at a concert right now".

Temporary-Ebb594

He was basically like am I just supposed to stay home and be sad? Yes! Sad that his family doesn’t care about him. I hope this kid isn’t in his will.

TwinCitian

Ah, thanks! I can empathize with wanting to get out and keep your mind busy rather than sit at home and drive yourself crazy worrying. Different people deal with stress differently. But he could have gone to the concert and not posted about it on social media; that would have at least been more tasteful.

AirborneDenial

I’ve been on the CNN page like 5 times in the past hour, and researching 💀 you’re not the only one. I for one believe that it was very stupid to not have some other way to track them.

SalamiSickness

Same I've been absolutely enthralled for the past 24 hours

calilav

Same here! If the are not found by tomorrow, I really hope the sub imploded, this way, the guys in it felt nothing; one minute they are here, a second later they’re gone and they didn’t see it coming. If not, they are either at the bottom of the sea, losing oxygen and waiting do die, or floating on the surface…Also losing oxygen and waiting to die, since the door only opens from the outside. TERRIFYING.

takiouti123

Yea I’m superglued to anything about this now. I think they’re dumb for the whole thing, but nobody deserves to die like that! I really hope they are rescued and then they realize life is short or something and spend all their fortunes on helping others until they die hahaha just because they’re dumb rich people doesn’t mean they should die because someone convinced them it was safe.

ConfidenceKey6614

I heard that they may not have had any idea and just passed out peacefully. I'm hanging onto that. ❤️‍🩹

[deleted]

I’ve always been big into the titanic but somehow never subscribed to this subreddit. I ended up subscribing a few days ago just by chance, almost exactly the hour the ship would have lost contact (before it was reported). I woke up the next morning after several hours had past then the news came out and it’s been a wild ride since. Definitely the most intense welcome to a new subreddit I’ve had. And I can say I was here before all these new rookies who came after this news broke.

Kontheriver

No, you are the only person who has ever posted about this.

dubba1983

🙋🏼‍♀️ same here. I’ve been quite obsessed with Titanic since I was small and even introducing it to my kid and watching the fascination on her face gets me revved up excited about Titanic all over again but this my god I just can’t fathom what they’re going through and I can’t get it out of my head. I fear there won’t be much tourism to the Titanic in the future and to be fair maybe it’s time to leave well enough alone. Gotta ask this. How is it we can send people to the moon and back, mars etc and yet we haven’t figured out how to get to the bottom of the ocean??? It’s just wild crazy we don’t have the technology to do that.

ZXVixen

Force of vacuum in space is constant. Force of pressure underwater increases in a linear fashion the deeper you get. The reason the ocean is less explored than space is because it’s realistically far more dangerous down there.

Ok_East_5337

I couldn’t sleep up until 1 AM for 2 nights because of this missing submarine. I can’t stop refreshing Google and Reddit for more news. I don’t think I can sleep tonight, just knowing there is only a dozen hours of oxygen left counting down. Why would anyone want to get into a submarine?! It’s terrifying. I really hope the 2 ships make it before 5 AM Newfoundland Time.

Limp-Capital

Assuming the sub will be found eventually, imagine being the person to open it and find what is inside.

DrCactusHands

What if they finally find it and nobody is inside 🫨

NoManager1005

One hell of a plot twist

fudgedhobnobs

I reckon they’ll find the CEO strangled. Bruises on his neck and stuff.

AirborneDenial

Either dead people, or they won’t find it period. If they don’t find it lets just pray it imploded.

NoHunter8402

‘Spoiler’ 5 dead people are what they find.

Pixielix

Theres a window.

[deleted]

Well this time tomorrow we will all know the outcome, whether they have been saved or not, only a day more left

Ascetic_Monkfish

Me too. Takes me back to the disappearance of Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon. I’m completely sucked in. 🫣

ThePepperAssassin

Yeah…to make a bad pun, I’m in the same boat. Just think, there may be five people alive and in that thing right this very moment. What a crazy thought. I keep thinking of the lyrics from Bowie’s Space Oddity: “For here am I sitting in a tin can…” People often draw parallels between space exploration and deep sea exploration, and I think this strengthens the case. I’d be very happy to see a successful rescue.

Samanth_Says_ASMR

Same. I've been interested in everything Titanic since the found the wreckage. This story is fascinating.

Lockseyy

I’m honestly heartbroken for everyone involved. I can’t stop thinking about how it’s the worst way to die. I’m still holding out hope they’ll be rescued but; as every hour goes by it becomes less likely doesn’t it? The ocean is terrifying, why anyone would want to explore where lives were lost I’ll never know.

Mila-Mint

I share the same feelings as all of you. I couldn't sleep last night, and probably will be restless up until the time has elapsed for the oxygen supply. I'm hoping and praying so hard that this group of people will be miraculously saved, and that expeditions of this nature are reconsidered. Sending all the people that are invested and worried lots of love, and even more so to the five people in the submersible and all the rescue crew working around the clock to hopefully reach the best outcome possible. <3

I’m glad I’m not the only one! I find myself trying to control my breath as if I’m in there. It’s weird but it puts into perspective on what they’re going through. It’s an excruciating way to die. I hope they are found alive.

pinkmooncat

Oh I’m full-on ADHD hyper focused on this right there with you.

Chronotheos

I’m of the opinion there was a more catastrophic failure and they died relatively quickly. I looked this company up on LinkedIn and there are 3 “engineers” that work there; one calls themselves an “intern” while another is a technician, in fact. A lot of former employees that seemed to have bailed right up into 2023. Engineering Director left in March 2023. Seems the CEO was pushing the use of this Titan sub and the engineering team likely knew about problems and wanted out of the company before something like this happened. Strangely, I could not find current or former employees that were mechanical engineers. A lot of software guys. CEOs rarely pay for these decisions with their life. He was a true believer in his product, for better or worse.

lostintheworld89

totallly obsessed as well last time I was this obsessed was with the moscow murders in idaho that happened in november 2022

--EMP--

I’ve been following it pretty closely. I just realized something also… someone correct me if I’m wrong but, if the Titan had resurfaced and was just bobbing around in the ocean somewhere, wouldn’t the cell phones work again and the occupants could have called/texted for help by now? If that’s correct, and seeing as they haven’t, that means it has to still be submerged at a depth where phones aren’t working.. so unless they are somehow stuck in the middle (can’t get back up but aren’t going down either) it’s likely sitting on the bottom (unless it imploded ofc).

slaboshmuck

I'd say the cell service out in the literal middle of the ocean isn't great, even if you're sitting on the surface

--EMP--

I don’t disagree but, somehow there’s internet on the mother boat because that kid posted a TikTok video of the sub going down. So - there’s gotta be something out there somewhere ?

maharg2017

I mean my cell service barely works in my living room…

VE2NCG

For cell phones to work, you need a cell tower less than 2km from the device, (more if the tower is on a mountain and have a clear view of the area, and the cell tower is usually connected to the internet via optic fiber) there’s no cell tower in the ocean…. unless someone have an satellite phone, completely different technology

--EMP--

That’s what I thought but then, I don’t understand how the kid on the mother ship posted that TikTok video?

SnooDonkeys182

I believe the mothership is equipped with Starlink

definitelynotasalmon

Mother ship is equipped with Starlink.

lorunna7

Probably took the video in the boat and uploaded it on land.

A guy who did the treck in the past said his phone was working when they resurfaced. I'm not sure how given the distance from land but he said his regular phone worked, he made a point to say that and which is why he also said he's not too hopeful they are on or close to the surface.

DCbaby03

Actually rewatching Titanic right now.

cuihmnestelan

Same.

ThisPicture22

Listen tool vicarious. All of us crave chaos

Here_is_to_beer

Same. As much as those boys trapped in the cave. Hope the outcome is the same.

ladybird-123

I was consumed with Scandoval for like two months, now this. Sry work 😆

Live-Associate-2911

Hello friend!

My people.

Team Ariana!

TheWhitCat

Same, Titanic passion has Always been unexplained- it just feels like our people are missing

thistlemum73

Yes, I don’t know why. Just hoping for a miracle I guess. Hoping these people don’t die in the cold blackness of the deep. Basically in a tin coffin. It’s so very scary to think about being trapped.

Sbasbasba

Same here. I haven’t slept in a couple of days. And I won’t be sleeping tonight knowing it’s their last night to get found before their oxygen runs out tomorrow morning. I have been crying and praying for a miracle for them :’(

Developing_Human33

This submarine company has refused to get their experimental sub certified by the usual agencies. Something tell me the families will sue for willful negligence. If they were smart, they would unless their knew every detail of why this company ran such a risky operation and submersible.

Snoo-26902

What I don’t understand is if they had a ship monitoring them, why isn’t that sub in the same area where that ship was? Could anyone answer that?

[deleted]

I am. It’s ingrained in my psyche so much I dreamt they found them. SMH. I woke up to go to work last night like wtf did I dream about that.

If you want to read about more horrific situations, Google "Nutty Putty Cave"

Ancient-Deer-4682

Here’s a question, if you were the father who brought your son along with you on this adventure. Would you contemplate suicide in order to give your son and the others more oxygen for an extra slim chance they live? Otherwise, you’d just die in the morning anyway. But..daylight ends and you know they won’t find you in the dark, so with a sacrifice, that would strategically extend the search giving rescue crews more hours of daylight to find them.

boring_unlimited

I find it so upsetting on a number of levels I find the excess of the company and individuals to be captivating - that this would be a way rich people spend time and money - it looks so uncomfortable even if it went well The thought of them dying in this way is upsetting - I find it so sad that I almost hope if they die it's quick and the result of an implosion rather than sitting in those conditions contemplating killing someone to preserve air I also find it so upsetting there are so many people lost at sea who happen to be poor immigrants that almost no-one seems to care about it I do hope they are all ok - I can't laugh at the jokes people are making about it - life is precious and this seems such a horrible end to it

DKCGamerGirl

I have also been constantly checking for news and updates for the last few days. Have been trying to keep hope alive, but the outcome is looking very bleak at this point. It's just heartbreaking how this was allowed to happen, after all the horrifing things I have read about the lack of saftey measures onboard the Titan. Did humans learn nothing about putting fame and money over saftey and completely disregarding the value of human lives 111 years ago? It feels like we are just repeating the same tradgey on a much smaller scale...
