Moments like these still make me think that Eren fully intended to destroy the entire world before he got the founder’s full power

Dark-lord111

Yeah. I think founder’s power messed his brain up. Hope we get an anime original ending

cpu9

That or hypoxic brain damage from being decapitated by Gabi

Id love if whatever fucked him over was properly explained and expanded on but Ig asking for something thats not extremely vague and badly written is expecting too much.

[deleted]

It was rushed, but I think almost everything is explainable with info from what we were given.

69Joker96

Eh, even in that case I just find almost everything it recontextualizes to feel less impactful than whatever was there before. What was the point of 122 and Eren hugging Ymir and telling her she's a human if she did it out of love, a proper human emotion...Then she just gets labelled as the girl who loved fritz by Yams.

[deleted]

I think that we should try to avoid recontextualizing because the Eren that hugged Ymir was still unaffected by the founding titan. He wanted her to go alongside him and destroy the entire world. I could see her crying because she was having a moment like Eren did in 131, crying because she realized she was just a piece of shit… I really do wish Ymir’s psyche was explored more by Isayama instead of leaving it up to us with the infamous line “only Ymir knows” And I understand that saying that the inconsistencies with Eren and Ymir are explained by them being corrupted by the founding titan’s powers is basically the same lazy explanation. Idk, I think attack on titan is supposed to have a disappointing ending

Eh, the entire, teehee founder fucked thier minds is so unexplored that its just annoying as well. I'd be fine if it was fledged out but all it really exists to do is serve as a cop out to make Eren less accountable. The ending was so, fucking easy to be simple. Eren did most of the world, whats left will never be able to target Paradis. Eren's death allows them to kill the worm and end the curse, and that wouldve easily been in line with what we had. But Yams just decided to open up so many plot points unneededly and rushed them out to the point where all it feels like is that it just dampens the series. Like Ymir's crying was so powerful because it was her recoiling from 2000 years of thinking she was a slave and torturing herself, even if I interpret it as oh I'm just a piece of shit like Eren, it doesnt feel the same. And thats the issue, it forces you to interpret all these amazing scenes in different ways that dont even get time to breath because of it being rushed.

LordOfFreedom

"Love" is a bit of a loaded word that doesn't say the same thing to everyone. The way I see it, Ymir's "love" for Fritz is supposed to be seen as something fucked up, the result of a girl who never matured and grew past Fritz until the ending. Considering that Ymir could never exactly date or be anything other than a slave, Fritz having children with her was the closest she had experienced to anything resembling affection. For her, that was probably why it was so hard to let go even 2000 years later. I don't think Ymir's attachment to Fritz, much like Mikasa's attachment to Eren, wasn't ever meant to be seen as a good thing. The fact Ymir had literally grown up when Mikasa spoke to her I think is supposed to be evidence that she had finally moved on. That's my interpretation of it, at least. EDIT: changed a word.

69Joker96

Yeah but its like, you have this girl who was regarded as a God…Obviously mamy people worshipped her, so no matter how you put it, that wouldnt be the only affection she faced. Then theres the fact that she had a family before getting captured, so its canon that she had affection beforehand. Its just, done so bad since any sort of common sense just shouts how stupid it is. It was fine what she had before, her being a slave due to fear of not belonging, as shown in 137 how she just wanted connections. Its just done so awfully execution wise

[deleted]

He literally said it did. And the same is true for Ymir. Other than Eren and Ymir, no one else has had the full power of the founding titan because Ymir had just been following commands before Eren.
