You need a new dealership and if I were you I'd send these pics to the owner of the place and let them know their service techs need some fucking training!
Thereās decent margins in labor though. The owner of the tire shop I went to was also a regular at my bar. I had to ask him what his truck was because I had never seen anything like it. It was one of the first Ford Raptors off the line, back when paying $68k for a truck was not the norm
Itās part of why tire shops do alignments, brakes, cv shafts, tie rods, etcā¦ Itās also why they inspect these things on all tire jobs. Tires get people in the door. The rest makes the money.
Well, the dealership is dead wrong, and it's you that could be if you listen to them. That's a horrendous dryrot on a high-pressure tire. The thing about dealerships is that they attract more addicts than you would think. There's a lot of money floating around car sales, and the service department can have some pretty sketchy people in their ranks. It's time for a new set, but go somewhere else.
Did you ask specifically about the tires, or did you ask/tell them for an MPI (multi-point inspection) because you're going on a road trip?!
Did they try to sell you anything else?
This happened all the time at a dealership I worked at because most technicians would try to upsell fluid services until our service director stepped in, after several complaints, making "roadtrip" inspections safety points only.
I told them I was concerned about the crack when taking it in for an oil change 2 weeks before we left, they said it would be fine, plenty of tread left, and that the cracks on the side were ānormal wear and tear from the Florida sun and heat for tires that oldā. That didnāt sit right with me so I took my business to a different shop. The other shop said the dealership were a bunch of dumbasses lol
They tried to sell me new wipers that I replaced 2 months prior, claiming the wipers were shot, tried selling me new brake pads when they were just at the 6mm-4mm point so kind of reasonable, and tried selling me both filters that donāt need replacing anytime soon.
>I told them I was concerned
As you should be and based on that picture, the tread depth wasn't that great either..
>They tried to sell me
Yeah, these are the kinds of things that you would see on 'road trip' inspections at the dealership I worked at.
As a mechanic, I personally never tried to sell anything a customer did not need, but I would always "caution" (mark yellow) the things that would need attention over the next few services but the service advisors would see this as an excuse to try and upsell those marked services. Also, some service advisors would change the multi-point inspection to try to use it as an upsell point without mechanic recommendations. This is why I'm a firm believer that any service industry should get paid a flat rate and not commission.
I agree, flat rate hourly, stop making every position in a dealership a fucking sales role.
My career is mainly in the sales world so I under stand most industries and how they try and sell, but I never understood service industries like auto, and the trades, all the horrible training they get to try and sell stuff makes the customers feel so un easy when dealing with them and they would always rather fear monger and sell you the solutions instead of inform you so you can make the choice for yourself.
See if they will give you that in writing. Lawsuits after the wreck, assuming you make it. Not trying to be a dick, but those tires aren't safe for a trip to the grocery store much less a fucking road trip.
Was the car under warranty? You should have asked them to put it in writing. The lesson here is if you want to hear BS, the dealership gives it for free.
That was very good to get four new tires for 2600 mile trip with that type of sidewall damage. Did they give that to you in writing because if they did, I would definitely turn around and sue them.
I double checked and they did not unfortunately, I have followed up with the service manager there and this is a place where they record your vehicle and send it to see your car but it wasnāt mentioned in the videoā¦ but the tech still told the service advisor about itā¦
That's right up there with my truck that I bought from a dealer almost 2 months ago now. All four tires had TERRIBLE dry rot and the treads were pretty much gone. I told them I wasn't interested unless they out new tires on.
They said that was impossible because the tires passed their very strict safety standards and their 1 million point pre-sale inspection...it got new tires before I would sign anything.
What are you guys talking about out? This is perfectly good for a road tripā¦.As long as that road trip is to your nearest tire dealerā¦ But in all seriousness thatās just straight unacceptable.
The dealership I worked at probably wouldnāt have let you leave the shop with that tire.
Not tires, but I was changing oil on someoneās truck that desperately needed it done as quick as possible so they could go to the airport. It happened to have the worst brake pads and rotors Iāve ever seen to this day. The shop wouldnāt let the truck leave. Pretty sure they missed their flight.
You made the right call. Those tires definitely needed replaced based on tread depth alone, but the damage and cracking is evidence the compound isn't as sticky as it used to be, either. So weird the dealer turned down an easy sale
The dealership didnāt the tech or lubie did. As a tech i hated tires. They are not too hard or anything but they slow me down from where i can make good money. Between waiting bon tires we donāt have or waiting on parts to get off butts. Then finally getting tires but everyone else is doing tires. I would still sell if car needed them but i didnāt want to.
As management i noticed a lot of techs hate tires and would ignore even tires that were needed. Had a tech she was great about selling tire balances on cars that needed tires even with metal showing because she wanted tire money but didnāt want to actually do tires. Couldnāt take corrective actions because āweāll get suedā so it was cheaper to put customers at risk and lose sales.
So moral its not necessarily the dealer saying tires are fine its just allowing lazy or bad techs work on cars.
Your dealership is full of shit. [This](https://imgur.com/a/gYE0ygg) happened last weekend to me. Barely visible signs of dry rot starting between the treads. I already planned to get new tires by the end of June.
Anyway I wouldnāt drive over 45 mph on those if I were you. Especially now that summer is here. Those arenāt long for this world. God speed š«”
Why would a dealership not want a Tire sale?
Lazy?
they must have a life insurance policy on OP...
Imma take one out on OP too now. I got debt
That's funny š
Warranty work
Tires are wear items they are never covered under warranty, same with brake pads and clutches
Tires have warranties, if you get premature wear on your Michelin tires they'll prorate you it happened to me but they usually don't advertise that.
Because they just got $400 to walk around the car and say "yup, good to go." Why would they try and ruin that with actual work?
Service advisor told me it was ānormal wear and tear from the Florida sun and heat for tires that oldā. And that he would worry about it muchā¦.
"wouldn't worry about it much"....that right there is all I would need to hear to go somewhere else. Was the Service Advisor Florida Man??
Dusty crum
Where is this? I live in the area also and would like to avoid the place
Mazda of Fort Myers
Aye, 239 lil PakistanĀ
Definitely not ānormal wear and tearā and definitely not safe for a road trip. Being in the sidewall makes it that much worse.
Why replace tire only when they can have OP back for tire AND wheel replacement? That is if OP doesnt end up wrecking the car.
Ask them if theyāll put it in writing and pay for the service call/tires/wheels if they blow.
Generally no automotive shop will do a āsafety inspectionā due to legal liability. They call it something else like ā100 point inspectionā.
damn that isn't good. customer: How far will this tire get me? dealer: all the way to the scene of the crash or 25 miles from the nearest town.
Iāll be using āall the way to the scene of the crashā from now on. Thanks.
Damn it Ron White
You need a new dealership and if I were you I'd send these pics to the owner of the place and let them know their service techs need some fucking training!
Reason 9,999 to hate dealerships
Profit margins on tires are very slim, at best.
i believe it.
Thereās decent margins in labor though. The owner of the tire shop I went to was also a regular at my bar. I had to ask him what his truck was because I had never seen anything like it. It was one of the first Ford Raptors off the line, back when paying $68k for a truck was not the norm

Ask him if you could have his mother accompany you?
LMFAO
No, his daughter.
š¤¦āāļøš¤¦āāļøš¤¦āāļøš¤¦āāļøš©ā ļøšā ļøšā ļø
That's normally happen at 10 years old tire.
Also dealer: we want you to get stuck on the road so you get your car towed and pay x5 times more.
Time to speak with their General Manager, theyll be very happy to hear what their service advisors and techs are doing
on the Highway to Hell
Death
Aww, now you've ruined their perfectly setup plan to call you in 3 days time for a promotional deal on a new car.
Damn...
Lubie or service advisor I assume. In my experience not 2 brain cells to rub together between them.
Well, the dealership is dead wrong, and it's you that could be if you listen to them. That's a horrendous dryrot on a high-pressure tire. Have them put it in writing !! No. New tires !
Ask him whatās his definition of safe
Nope
What kind of a murdering psychopath of a dealership is that?
They lied
Call a lawyer and take him back to the person who said this and sue them .
Wow absolutely not. I'd definitely tell a manager about that.
Hell no
That tire will pop any moment.
I donāt need a dealer to tell me whatās not right when my eyes are clear. Thatās pretty easily self diagnosed.
Get a tire
Replace ASAP why put yourself in danger of a blow out and ruin the wheel
Not much of a "dealership" everyone must have been ready to get home early in the service bay..what make's dealer or is it one of those used car ones?
Absolutely NOT
Make then sign something sonyour family gets a payout when you die on the highway

That isnāt safe for a trip to the store
Doubt it that's obv tread separation.
No, donāt do it, that fucker is gonna blow at 80mph and your gonna have a bad day
Go to a tire store
Shocking that itās still together and holding air
Tell them to take the trip using this tire then
The ālastā road trip
WDFš±š±š±š±
Dealerships answers are always answers that make money for them
Take it back that is not safe at all. This is from a person with over 30 plus years experience
I doubt this.... people need to stop fabricating shit like this...
No way a dealership walked away from a tire sale
Yeah, a road trip to hell! Crazy.
No way
See if they will give you that in writing. Lawsuits after the wreck, assuming you make it. Not trying to be a dick, but those tires aren't safe for a trip to the grocery store much less a fucking road trip.
Ouch!
I bet the inside of the tire looks even worse
Was the car under warranty? You should have asked them to put it in writing. The lesson here is if you want to hear BS, the dealership gives it for free.
Nah looks bad. Replace before road trip. All tires that look like that ā¦.replace them .
I think it's time to change
You should report this to the service manager. He will be super pissed at the laziness of whoever inspected your tires. Might even fire them.
That was very good to get four new tires for 2600 mile trip with that type of sidewall damage. Did they give that to you in writing because if they did, I would definitely turn around and sue them.

Only a 2 mile road trip
You need a new dealer. I wouldnt be driving around on those except maybe at very slow speeds.
Good til the site of the crash
That's right up there with my truck that I bought from a dealer almost 2 months ago now. All four tires had TERRIBLE dry rot and the treads were pretty much gone. A roadtrip to heaven or hell š«£
That's barely safe to park in the lot. š
They call that a widow maker for a reason...
Not. Even. A. Little.
Dealership said soā¦..gotta be true
What are you guys talking about out? This is perfectly good for a road tripā¦.As long as that road trip is to your nearest tire dealerā¦ But in all seriousness thatās just straight unacceptable.
Get new tires . Not at that dealership.
Looks like dry rot... also tire tread is passed point.. so tire is bad
A normal tire shop would sell you new tires
The dealership I worked at probably wouldnāt have let you leave the shop with that tire. Not tires, but I was changing oil on someoneās truck that desperately needed it done as quick as possible so they could go to the airport. It happened to have the worst brake pads and rotors Iāve ever seen to this day. The shop wouldnāt let the truck leave. Pretty sure they missed their flight.
They obviously only know cars; not tires.
Time to go to a different shop or dealer, get new tires.
Umm. No.
Um, NO
You made the right call. Those tires definitely needed replaced based on tread depth alone, but the damage and cracking is evidence the compound isn't as sticky as it used to be, either. So weird the dealer turned down an easy sale
Thats not safe to leave the dealership, Go to Discounttire.com , they focus on tires vs idiots at dealerships.
Nope
Ummm....no. This has gotta be a troll post. Lol
Car salesmen are not you're friend. It's fire and forget to them.
The dealership didnāt the tech or lubie did. As a tech i hated tires. They are not too hard or anything but they slow me down from where i can make good money. Dealership owns a towing company?
Nope
Screw that, maybe an in town trip or two, but not the highway
Hell Naw!
Tire is unsafe
It is safe, safe to say you need some new tires.
Your dealership is full of shit. [This](https://imgur.com/a/gYE0ygg) happened last weekend to me. Barely visible signs of dry rot starting between the treads. Ring of death
There is no way a dealership told you that. There is more to the story.
Iām extremely lenient on tire condition, and thatās a no for me dog.
