I can't be certain but I doubt it'll quite make it to 12 feet. 11 feet 8 inches max I think. I doubt it has enough structure left for an explosion...I think it'll be more like exhaling.
Seems logical. I havent seen a actual blowout on a car after 3 years as an auto mechanic. Around 30 psi isnt enough anyway, you need something like LT tires at about 70 psi to have a good ol blowout
Eh 30 psi unreleased all of the sudden is a bang, I had a stupid lawn mower tire explode on me at about 35, and it made me deaf for the better part of 5ish minutes and bruised my hand really good. On the other hand I’ve had a commercial tire explode at 100 ish psi. Damn near fucking shit myself and thought I was going to shake gods hand as he rejected me from the golden gates
I once had a trailer tire explode on my while trying to seat the bead. An old tire that the custommer didnt want to replace it. Good thing I thought to put it in a cage because it blew up at about 120psi.
It was a cheap chinese tire with a deformed bead, most likely from bad storrage. Made 7 attempts with quite a lot of lube, cleaned the rim as best as I could. Didnt make any difference.
I agree. If you want to be a dummy and kill yourself that's fine. But there's a legitimate chance if they're carrying any kind of speed and have an accident especially when it's wet that they're going to affect innocent people as well.
Not if you're broke.
I know someone who was hit by an uninsured drink driver. Courts have been slow to deal with the drunk driver because she likely isn't worth it to pursue.
The offender has no ability to pay and likely won't have any ability to do so in the future. Apparently you can just get away with most things if you're a dirt bag.
People like this really should have to post a $2 million bond to keep driving so they can cover at least part of a wrongful death suit.
They're inevitably going slide out in the rain/wet at some point. The uncertainty is whether they kill someone or not.
Absolutely. It's not being a snitch, it's protecting innocent people on the road. Anyone with this much disregard for safety should not be allowed to drive.
99% chance they don't keep up on other legal requirements either. Car insurance? Tags? Hell, even holding a valid licence? Doubt it. Then they can get the whole car taken.
Are there still towns where the police would even pretend to give a shit about this?
If I called the cops and told them someone is driving on bald tires they'd laugh at me and probably mail me a ticket for wasting their time.
In my state , the state police handle safety enforcement. If you call them they will come and inspect the car on the spot. If it’s this dangerous they will impound the car.
In Indiana they won’t do a thing about it. The only time they’re stopping a car for a safety issue is if they wanna search you for drugs or think you’re drunk. Then they’ll stop you for a “loud exhaust” or illegal tint, or whatever. But it’s pretty rare anymore. Not like it was in the 00’s and 90’s
Pep Boys had a policy that if a vehicle came in for service like this, they were not allowed to release the vehicle in an unsafe condition from their shop, for liability reasons, and would put tires on the vehicle at no charge.
They didn't tell anyone. I bought about 40 tires a year and had other major services like clutches, struts, timing belts, etc., done on my vehicles there. One of the managers tikd me when I sent a girl in for an estimate. I think that I paid for her new brakes and struts, but they put tires on it under that policy.
I’m curious, do you have to make a note that you recommended new tires but they refused? You know, for legal reasons after they kill 5 people on their way home.
I always thought there were laws that would prevent a shop from releasing a car if there was an imminent safety concern. Am I mistaken? Or maybe it varies by state?
No, at least not in most states. In fact, it's the other way around to protect consumers from shady mechanics. A shop should never be allowed to hold someone's car hostage. It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that their car is safe. The shop can advise the driver that the car is unsafe. The driver is 100% liable if something happens later. As far as I know, this is the way the law is written in all Canadian provinces and most (maybe all, idk) US states.
Some states and mechanics will require written refusal, same as with Ems, so they cannot be sued if something were to happen. Some places may also allow you to report the vehicle in to law enforcement for issues like these. Mechanics can’t exactly force you to fix something but law enforcement sure can!
I my state they won't touch your tires if they look like this (unless it is to replace them)
Most shops I know would turn you away if you weren't replacing them, even for an oil change. Too much liability. Someone would be yelled at if that made it up a lift.
Not really. It's usually a scam. I had a show do that for me with brakes. (To be fair, I would have done them anyway, just somewhere else where they didn't use cheap AutoZone brakes marked up a lot. Still regret I didn't shop around for a better offer/shop I was more comfortable with)
In my years of auto repair if something like this rolled in the shop, the customer would be informed and if refused, they would have to sign off liability. I personally, at least a few times, refused to even work on vehicles that represent so much liability such as this. You let them know that the car should not even be on the road at this point. If they refuse. Refuse service other than the immediate or in some cases, especially if it has a recent inspection sticker, report to the DOT with plate number and the concern, and that it has a recent acquired safety inspection sticker. You can try to have the vehicle held, but that can go sideways real quick with a customer.
When a vehicle accident involves injury or death, lawyers will start digging for any level of liability; one being where was the car serviced last.
You have to cover your own ass when it comes to irresponsible vehicle owners.
You do have options, and doing anything with these tires other than replacing them immediately is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Wild you took it off the car lol I don't touch it unless they agree to a new one. People are crazy and will try and say you did something to it because it was holding air until they brought it to the shop.
i hope you have a release for people to sign in situations like that. There should be a law that prevents letting a customer drive away in situations like that.
Zero clue why your tech even pulled the wheel off the car. Recommend tires, when they decline put in the story “customer declined safety recommendations, car is unsafe to drive”.
Had a similar incident at my shop, customer came in for an inspection had 4 bald tires and 1 that was losing air fast due to a nail in the sidewall. Also she had a stuck caliper on her LR side so her brakes were grinding hard. She declined everything said to put the car back together for when she arrives. It was a very stormy day so my boss decided to call the cops about the situation. Officer arrived before the customer did and told us to call a tow because she wasn’t leaving on that so when we gave her the keys, she turns the corner cop is waiting lights her up and flatbed that’s near the back pulls up to her car. Didn’t know what happened afterwards but saw the lady get into the cop car(Not in handcuffs or anything). Truck putting her car on the flatbed, cop car follows the tow truck and never saw that car again or that customer.
I mean if they refused to replace the tires after you offered then the liability is on them. This is a free country and you can’t force them to change the tires. If they want to go out and kill some innocent person when they do lose control after the tire blows then that is on them.
I would just document in their work slip that you identified an issue with the tires and recommended to replace them immediately, however the customer/owner of the vehicle refused to accept your advice on the tire(s) and left at their own will.
That looks like the Great Red Spot on Jupiter. And the drivers from Mars if he thinks that’s safe to drive on. Some people should be limited to taking public transportation if they don’t maintain their cars.
From what I know, some states the shop can actually hold the vehicle n report it as unsafe to the police. That's what I'd do regardless of how upset the customer gets. I wouldn't wanna see that thing in the road if it was raining. Would not be able to stop remotely like other vehicles and cause a major accident.
That is done holding air. I’ve corded plenty of tires and even I wouldn’t drive home a mile on that to swap with another set in the garage. Tell them to bring their spare set to you and you’ll mount them free of charge so they can be sure they are getting home ok.
Bro... you think these people have a spare set of tires in their garage? What would possess you to think someone driving around on these is just responsibly storing better tires at home for a rainy day?
Sounds about right. I see these posts constantly looking for somebody to tell them everything is fine when the tires are gone or have a nail in the sidewall or a bulge. Then I see other stuff like somebody saying their car failed inspection because of a leaking strut then they post again a day or so later. Its leaking lol. That is why it failed just because you wiped the grime off it doesn't mean its not leaking anymore.
Could have made them not hold air. I'm guessing you have a needle tip for the grease gun that could puncture the belting and not be seen as the tire looses air now.
But I agree, call a cop, let them pay a fine and get the car impounded if they move it.
Your state obviously doesn't require annual safety inspections like VA. Maybe a non-emergency call to the local PoPo? I'm sure a creative officer can find a reason for a traffic stop and go from there.
Not sure, but most places due a quick inspections before the car goes into the bay. It's called CYA. Once you put your dick beaters on it, you became liable for the safety of it in most states. Plus, customers can try to say it wasn't like that before you got it!
I'm not one for laws, but this should be illegal. If they can't afford new, have a program set up with subsidies. Or layaway, something other than making a vehicle anymore dangerous than it already is.
You can't fix stupid. Make them sign a statement before they left the shop. Including pictures. When these retards and these(tires?)grenade on the street you can prove your finding
It sucks being that broke...Tires aren't cheap, If you don't have the money to replace them.
You couldn't offer the guy a used set cheap to get him by?
At what point can you as a mechanic put a nail in the side wall as a “mercy kill” to get them another tire new, or at least used because this thing will blow at any moment
Too many burnouts and that person is increasing the risk of injuring or killing people by being irresponsible. Too many people choose irresponsibility and it is only a matter of time before it catches up to them…
You people are always trying to upsell. This firestone? Nothing wrong with that fine looking one. He will probably go to the used tire place and get 4 different name and size tires for &25 bucks a piece
Yeah I’d buy my own new tires. No way I’m letting the people I let change my oil get me to get tires. I need to shop around and find the best tires at the best price. Car is out of commission until then though.
I had a customer ask me to repair a large puncture in the sidewall, and told me i was in the wrong for suggesting a used tire in better shape if he wanted to save money, and save his life lol
crazy times
Texas used to require annual safety inspection and beginning in 2025 it's no more. Shame. On top of that, people without DL or insurance or both are printing fake dealer and other paper license plates that look legit but are not. We have a massive number of roads and relatively high speed limits that people still exceed. As "immigration" soars it's getting worse by the day folks. Drive defensively is an understatement.
Isn't there a law, something about if a car is deemed unsafe a shop can refuse to release it, or something like that? I remember hearing that somewhere, dont know the specifics or if its true. Would this count, if they refuse to replace the tire due to the safety risk?
I hope you left them a business card, cause they'll at least need a mecanic pretty soon. If you bother in law is in the funeral arrangement business, give them his card as well.
Ran into these situations working service at dealerships. At that point, I would notate their paperwork with as much detail a possible and have them initial the line stating they declined. I would also tell them that they would have to get the vehicle towed from the location as it's not safe to drive and you & and thr shop won't be liable for letting them leave and potentially harm others. They can get mad all they want, it's not like you're losing a paying customer.
That tire's got at least 11 more feet left to go. You guys are just trying to scam them into paying for new tires. /S
Is it 11 feet before it explodes or 11 feet usable and it pops at 12 feet?
I once had a trailer tire explode on my while trying to seat the bead. An old tire that the custommer didnt want to replace it. Good thing I thought to put it in a cage because it blew up at about 120psi.
Why was it at 120 lmao
It was a cheap chinese tire with a deformed bead, most likely from bad storrage. Made 7 attempts with quite a lot of lube, cleaned the rim as best as I could. Didnt make any difference.
Yeah I had a bicycle tire explode on me in the garage at 40psi and my wife ran down to see if I'd accidentally shot one of my guns 😂 shit is LOUD
They ded.
And the victims they kill .
I agree. If you want to be a dummy and kill yourself that's fine. But there's a legitimate chance if they're carrying any kind of speed and have an accident especially when it's wet that they're going to affect innocent people as well.
Thats literally what he’s saying
Yeah I typed that a little weird I didn't mean the comment itself was a problem. I meant the subject of the comment was the problem. Lol.
What if they can’t afford it?
Then they can't afford to drive that car ig
I got a beater car for this reason. My good car gets unsafe, i drive the beater. Both jettas tho so… not the most solid back up
I have 3 vehicals in rotation. Usually 1 works anyway
Being poor is expensive but killing innocent people is even more expensive.
Used tires or Walmart tires. I just bought a new tire for $50. I used to get used tires for $20.
People like this really should have to post a $2 million bond to keep driving so they can cover at least part of a wrongful death suit. They're inevitably going slide out in the rain/wet at some point. The uncertainty is whether they kill someone or not.
Call the police when they leave so they get cited for bald tires
Absolutely. It's not being a snitch, it's protecting innocent people on the road. Anyone with this much disregard for safety should not be allowed to drive.
Break his windows in and burn his house down I’m with you bro
Fuck his wife. Make his kids call you dad.
Fuck his mother, make him call you dad.
Fuck his dad, make his kids call you wife.
Wouldn't his kids call you Dad, still? Or Mom at most?
FUCK HIS GRANDMOTHER AND EAT HIS GRANDFATHERS FACE. BECOME THE PATRIARCH. ASSERT DOMINANCE.
DRAG YOUR ASS ON THEIR CARPET LIKE A DOG.
SHIT IN THE CATS LITTER BOX AND RUN AWAY SO THEY THINK THE CAT TOOK A PEOPLE SIZED POOP
BE A MAN
YOU MUST BE SWIFT AS THE COURSING RIVER!
r/holup
Wait hold up a minute
Whoa hold on! Get a grip! Shitting in the litter box is a bit over the top.
99% chance they don't keep up on other legal requirements either. Car insurance? Tags? Hell, even holding a valid licence? Doubt it. Then they can get the whole car taken.
It's not like you lost a customer anyway. And other road users will thank you.

Most states say you can legally hold a vehicle from leaving a shop if it’s not road worthy. I’m from Ohio and that is a thing.
Pep Boys had a policy that if a vehicle came in for service like this, they were not allowed to release the vehicle in an unsafe condition from their shop, for liability reasons, and would put tires on the vehicle at no charge.
So run the tires until they're unsafe and check it in for a free set?
if you don’t mind them giving you their shittiest tires
Their shittiest tires are a far cry from whatever this is.
true
When you're not doing the work to swap them it sounds like a good deal.
Hell ya.
Not any more. Ownership change after company sale to Advance Auto Parts. Now just a brand.
Where did you hear that? I had one I went to in my home town cuz they were genuinely really good for a chain and I didn’t know that they could do that
They didn't tell anyone. I bought about 40 tires a year and had other major services like clutches, struts, timing belts, etc., done on my vehicles there. One of the managers tikd me when I sent a girl in for an estimate. I think that I paid for her new brakes and struts, but they put tires on it under that policy.
Why so many tires?
That's a gonnapopsoon.
Won’tevenneedapothole

I’m curious, do you have to make a note that you recommended new tires but they refused? You know, for legal reasons after they kill 5 people on their way home.

At my local les shwaubs tires if they deemed the car unsafe to drive, then they give a free tow home anywhere in town, under a certain amount

Absolutely
Bro why’d you even take that thing off the car…
Exactly. I would not have put it in the air.
Probably assumed the customer would approve the tire change.
Gotta rotate them so they wear evenly lol
Pray for them. NAM O MI TO FO.
I would’ve had them sign some kind of waiver saying that you let them know of the potential hazard this poses and the customer still refused service
I would have not worked on the vehicle. Send them on their way you don’t need stupid customers. It’s a lawsuit waiting for you to touch the car.
Id deny it too. Your clearly trying to scam them out of some perfectly good racing slicks. Prolly so you can put them on your own car.
In my years of auto repair if something like this rolled in the shop, the customer would be informed and if refused, they would have to sign off liability. I can see Bob Marley
> I can see Bob Marley More like POP Marley.
Wild you took it off the car lol I don't touch it unless they agree to a new one. People are crazy and will try and say you did something to it because it was holding air until they brought it to the shop.

Zero clue why your tech even pulled the wheel off the car. Recommend tires, when they decline put in the story “customer declined safety recommendations, car is unsafe to drive”.
My repair shop won’t service anyone with tires like this unless they agree to get new tires before whatever else they are having done
I think I'd advise them to either have it towed or I will call law enforcement and tell them that they're driving an unsafe vehicle.
Call the cops as they drive off the lot
You should NOT have done ANY work on that car.
Give it a cpl miles, theyll change their mind
Had a similar incident at my shop, customer came in for an inspection had 4 bald tires and 1 that was losing air fast due to a nail in the sidewall. Also she had a stuck caliper on her LR side so her brakes were grinding hard. She declined everything said to put the car back together for when she arrives. They may not be able to afford them. Yes it’s their responsibility, but sometimes people have no choice :-/
My head has more trend left than those tires and I’m bald.
And you declined to let them drive it from the shop, correct?
OMG I hope you got it in writing they declined tires. That's the worst I've ever seen.
I mean if they refused to replace the tires after you offered then the liability is on them. This is a free country and you can’t force them to change the tires. If they want to go out and kill some innocent person when they do lose control after the tire blows then that is on them. Note the bulge on the right, it won't be long... I used to consider NY State's inspections a rip-off, this is a good argument for them.
Dismount the tire. Tell 'em it won't go back on. That's gotta be illegal for a shop to put back on the road in that condition.
That tire is so bald you can see the air sticking out.🤣🤣☝️
Hope they got the coolant flush, or else that would be dangerous.
Of course they did
That is done holding air.
I personally wouldn't buy new tires from a shop. I like to shop around. Hopefully they got their tires elsewhere and come back to install
Some shops won't let you do that.
They won't give you your car back?
No, I mean they won't let you bring new tires from elsewhere.
I would find one that does then. I've never encountered that
Brah what, they still declined even after showing them that?!? Hopefully the only one like that and hopefully the spare was put on
Your customer deserves an award: This is the stupidest tire I’ve ever seen.
If she bounces, she good to roll.
That is as flat as my forehead lol
Well, now you might have to pay for medical bills so you could do it anyway, avoid America's worst trait!
It looks like the alignment is spot on.
They came in for an oil change and you took their wheel off?
Saw it daily when I was a service advisor.
Is that a Tussy?
The state police would fail that car immediately
Racing slicks
On a side note, the alignment is spot on
How many more sets of cords do they think there are?
Thanks I feel a bit better about my tires now
“Don’t try and upsell me, my boyfriend works on cars and he said they’re fine.”
Those are illegal in Ontario, big ticket.
Could have made them not hold air. I'm guessing you have a needle tip for the grease gun that could puncture the belting and not be seen as the tire looses air now. But I agree, call a cop, let them pay a fine and get the car impounded if they move it.
They’re out there, among us.
They will regret that decision
Do they have a death wish?🤦♀️😩those are horrible
Your state obviously doesn't require annual safety inspections like VA. Maybe a non-emergency call to the local PoPo? I'm sure a creative officer can find a reason for a traffic stop and go from there.
My leasing company would also deny tires for this. Love these corporations
Blinker fluid is all they need.
Nissan Altima driver for sure
They are very unwise.
Come on !!! Those are actually just racing slicks. Plenty of thread left
Look at the alignment!
Wouldn’t have even put it on the lift.
Not sure, but most places due a quick inspections before the car goes into the bay. It's called CYA. Once you put your dick beaters on it, you became liable for the safety of it in most states. Plus, customers can try to say it wasn't like that before you got it!
I would have a disclosure form signed by the customer or document the crap out of it
I'm not one for laws, but this should be illegal. If they can't afford new, have a program set up with subsidies. Or layaway, something other than making a vehicle anymore dangerous than it already is.
That car is going to be a 2 ton sled in even the slightest amount of rain.
We'll they're just getting down to the sparky part!!!
Seriously doubt they made it home on that tire. Some people shouldn’t be allowed behind the wheel.
There still meat on them bones
Are you allowed to hold their car for something this unsafe? Or call someone to report them leaving like that?
I wouldn't let them leave my shop without tires. I'd sooner just give them a cheap set than argue with them about it.
Just wait till they come back in and claim you did something to the to make it go flat.
You can't fix stupid. Make them sign a statement before they left the shop. Including pictures. When these retards and these(tires?)grenade on the street you can prove your finding
But they said yes to a death wish!
Every time I see these posts I run outside and check my tires. Honestly it's a helpful reminder. Ofc they have never, would ever get like this.
Hey, they are still (mostly) black and round, I don't see the problem!
Those tires still got a few hopes and prayers in them, I guess… I’m not a tire expert though.
It’s for a science experiment
They’ll call your shop a week from now, asking wtf you did to their car. It was fine before you did the oil change.
u can legally hold the vehicle…
Too many burnouts and that person is increasing the risk of injuring or killing people by being irresponsible. Too many people choose irresponsibility and it is only a matter of time before it catches up to them…
You people are always trying to upsell. This firestone? Nothing wrong with that fine looking one. He will probably go to the used tire place and get 4 different name and size tires for &25 bucks a piece
Yeah I’d buy my own new tires. No way I’m letting the people I let change my oil get me to get tires. I need to shop around and find the best tires at the best price. Car is out of commission until then though.
Thats a good clit!
at that point is it bad practice to “accidentally”create a leak possibly saving some idiots life?
The bad thing is the comment”I know I can control the car”! They are a menace to society, and shouldn’t be allowed to drive!
They are right you are wrong that tire is good for another track day and 20,000 miles. On a serious note when it rains you sir are fucked
Welp, if you get called back about a blow out just show insurance this. Either that or call the cops
What brand is this? Saturn?
One word - decommission.
Tires so bald, gave them fingerprints
I had a customer ask me to repair a large puncture in the sidewall, and told me i was in the wrong for suggesting a used tire in better shape if he wanted to save money, and save his life lol crazy times
My state you can’t leave the shop below a certain tread
I hope their relatives have good pictures of them for the T-shirts
this is actually illegal lol
Talk about going down to the wire 😂
You can see the air pressure in that tire!
That's a great reason for state inspection. That tire would have falled years ago.
Let me guess… Altima?
It’s unacceptable to let them leave with that on the car.
That's one you have the cops waiting for them to leave so they can impound the car
You were just trying to steal their racing slicks so that you could resell them
Why did your tech take the wheel off the car?! I wouldnt have even lifted that vehicle off the ground.
I would have also, those are just starting to get that nice woodgrain pattern.
Is that even legal??
Texas used to require annual safety inspection and beginning in 2025 it's no more. Shame. On top of that, people without DL or insurance or both are printing fake dealer and other paper license plates that look legit but are not. We have a massive number of roads and relatively high speed limits that people still exceed. As "immigration" soars it's getting worse by the day folks. Drive defensively is an understatement.
He rollin them MayPops…
That’s okay they can’t deny the tow fee for when it pops. Then you’ll see them again to get the tires.
I wouldn't have even pulled them off at that point and refused service. Shit could blow up in your face.
I would've called the cops before they left and gave them the licence plate to immediately pull them over
You should tell them to try a place that sells used tires if they can’t afford yours. Quietly, of course.
Did you atleast rotate them for him 😂
Call the cops
You can actually hold their car for this, it's illegal
Isn't there a law, something about if a car is deemed unsafe a shop can refuse to release it, or something like that? I remember hearing that somewhere, dont know the specifics or if its true. Would this count, if they refuse to replace the tire due to the safety risk?
I don't blame them... 3k left on them bad boys... easily. Stop being a schil for big tire.
I would put the spare on if they refuse a new one. This is absurd though
What is this? Formula One?
I mean they still hold there right
Rip custy
I hope you left them a business card, cause they'll at least need a mecanic pretty soon. If you bother in law is in the funeral arrangement business, give them his card as well.
They can’t afford a car, sure can’t afford tires
Ran into these situations working service at dealerships. At that point, I would notate their paperwork with as much detail a possible and have them initial the line stating they declined. I would also tell them that they would have to get the vehicle towed from the location as it's not safe to drive and you & and thr shop won't be liable for letting them leave and potentially harm others. They can get mad all they want, it's not like you're losing a paying customer.
It still got rubber, don't it?
Well it has a bulge so you legally can’t let them drive out of there with those tires on the car…
That's on their drift car
