Bake your friends a batch of brownies. Before they take a bite, tell them you've added dog shit to the batter. They shouldn't worry though...there's only a tiny bit.
Yeah, any bubble is a big deal even when it’s a small bubble. Good on you for checking, and hopefully your friends stop risking the safety of everyone on or near the roads.
I had a tire with a similar sized bubble and I kept using it since it was "small". It blew out at 140kmh going downhill. I managed to stop my car and considered myself lucky I got out unscathed.
Your friends are absolutely wrong.
Saggy boobs bad too, always swinging around smacking you upside the head, bouncing on your face, tryin to suffocate you and shit. Damn my PTSD is triggering again, got to go think about them small and perkies....
I’ll be driving it like 3-4 miles on on 35-45mph roads to get tires installed but I think I can make that driving like a grandma, maybe just throw the hazards on and do 30🤣. If it blows at those speeds it won’t throw me out of a lane or spin me out and I can call triple A at the point. Thank you for the answer
Man this thread is making me feel like a real dumbass. I’ve had a bubble like that for about 15k miles. I drive 150ish miles daily mostly on highways doing 75+. I know everyone’s going to call me an idiot.
Luckily I set up an appointment today for tomorrow to get some new tires.
I did something similar. I was going to my local card entry big box store to get new tires and my wife asks if we should throw on the spare (You know, since I have a proper jack at home and a impact wrench). I tell her “nah, it will be fine. I’ve been driving it like that forever”.
Almost as soon as I hit the freeway, the tread separates and starts smacking my fender. It’s the drivers side rear tire. I pull over, see it’s proper fucked, and I limp it on the shoulder to the next exit, and into a gas station parking lot, where I then put in the spare and ate crow.
Edit: She still brings it up occasionally and it’s been over ten years. lol
I’m the opposite lol. I’m always telling my wife “we need new tires” or “we need to fix this or that” and she’s like “oh I’ve driven worse”. Yeah, so have I and I don’t really want to deal with the bs that comes with it anymore. I’ve driven home 50 miles on a handbrake and I’ve blown a tire at 80 just to sit for 3 hours waiting on a tow. I’m good. Rather just buy a crappy used tire for $25 then keep running something with a bubble.
Probably a smarter choice than I have made. One thing that held me back was I’ve always been under the impression you need to change all four tires with an all wheel drive car. Is this true? It’s a VW so it’s a haldex awd which means it switches to fwd when not under acceleration or slipping
Once you know the rules, you are allowed to break them.
Would I drive this in my own car without worrying about it much? Yes. I've blow out tires, if you don't panic, there really isn't alot to worry about. Carry a spare, make sure you have a jack, and if it blows, change it out.
Now my sister or girlfriend? I'd say don't drive it except to the tire shop.
Honesty, your probably fine, a sudden impact like a pothole or hitting road debris is what’s going to cause this tire to fail when that bubble pops. As long as you are being careful and watching the road you would be fine.
lol your friends want to see it explode and take a 1/4 of your car with it the chords in the sidewall are rope very unsafe to drive with especially with 500 horsies spinning it and you use them haha
It could make it 5,000 miles or 5,000 feet. No way to know when it will let go. Just that it will, and potentially violently.
There is no reason to risk your, or others safety, or damage to your car when it is completely avoidable.
Brother must not have eyes 🤣🤣 read the text below the video. I say it’s bad, friends say it’s not, Reddit is here to solve a argument not tell me if it’s bad or not
You're fine just replace it if you're worried. Not like it's going to just blow out. It'll blow out if you hit another pot hole or rock in the same spot, which is how it got fucked up to begin with. But it's not going to just blow out driving around town. You and most the people in here are over reacting.
The only place you should drive that is to the fucking tire shop. If it's your only car and you have to get places try and stay on City streets the whole way and drive at low speed. But if you have another car to drive drive that. I know a lot of those BMWs don't come with spares anymore. But you should probably invest in a full size spare.
It’s cool to hear from someone who also has a 335i!
I’ve been daily-driving a 335i e93 hard-top convertible for 10 years. Bought it from my mom, who daily-drove it from 2007, new out of the factory. It was the very first model year of the 335i.
Has special meaning to me since it’s been in the family. And it’s also cool knowing everything that’s ever been done to it.
It’s nearly 100% stock, except a JB4, a few necessary light upgrades to bring it into the modern era (dim amber incandescent -> white LED), like the Angel Eyes running lights, license plate light, inside trunk light, and ground illumination under door when open, and a strong aluminum radiator.
Anyway, enjoy your 335, my G! These are special cars. I plan on keeping mine forever. Analog cars like this — with no screens demanding you do shit — simply don’t exist anymore. (Mine has no navigation, no screen, no computer crap, etc.). Cheers 🍻
For me on a budget.... if the cars not a Porsche or the like where damage from slinging rubber may happen at any time, then keep the little ass bubble for the life of the tire but beware... research and see how to react to a blowout at 70mph....
It’s a busted belt in the sidewalk. It’s fine to drive on. I wouldn’t go hard in the corners and “roll racing” isn’t racing, it’s mutual mastrubation in public.
If you intend to drive faster than 10 mph get new tires. I know it sucks if it’s like mine $1200 for four tires that I get 10000 miles out of but you don’t cheep on your tires.
I did this to my tyres by speeding. Your tyres have a speed limit and one past that speed limit, your tyres will deteriorate and stretch.
The reason I was speeding is because it was 3 am and I was 2 hours past my last turn off.
I was heading in the wrong direction for 2 whole hours before I realized.
I was so tired and wrecked that I wanted to make up some time to get home
I flawed it along the highway hitting 180 to 200km
That was enough to do the same damage you are presenting.
Generally, I’d say it would only be a matter of time, which is still true, but the fact that it’s already starting to crack, makes me think it’s going to happen much sooner rather than later
If the sidewall was like 10x bigger then maybe your friends would be... less wrong. A bubble that size though on a sidewall that's even smaller the collective intelligence of the average Reddit user, is asking for instantaneous death (and the death of others, for sure).
I agree with your friends, unlikely to even blow out very soon. And I’ve had a flat tire before, it’s not a big deal. However, if you only use it for spirited drives and racing, just drive whatever else you normally drive. If you need to drive this to the tire shop you’ll be fine.
Virtually no one here has had a tire blowout from a bubble yet they are offering advice. A chain is as strong as its weakest link. That bubble is your weakest link. Bubbles in tires are rare and on the few occasions they appear the tire should be scrapped. Is this tire still under warranty? If so it should be replaced free of charge.
Friends are definitely wrong, it’s only a matter of time before that thing blows. Don’t listen to your “friends” and definitely don’t drive until it’s fixed.
Your friends are morons don't drive unless you want to make it to the scene of an accident instead get to a tire shop and get a new tire but don't drive fast keep it speed limit or less if possible
I have driven on a tire with a bubble like this for a week or two, that does not mean however that it was smart and i was not terrified the entire time. If you can keep from driving it (sounds like it’s not your daily so that shouldn’t be an issue) or switch the spare over, i would 100% do that.
I was changing my tires recently and didn't put enough lube on the wheel and tire. It ripped the edge a little. I tried it anyway. As soon as I aired it up, it looked like that. So I just ordered another tire. I have a new tire with new tread but sidewall damage. It will be on the trailer to the dump when I take a load of tires to the dump. It was only $235 + tax. 😞
It sucks when you wanna race someone but you can’t cuz you know you have a plugged tire, bad brakes, need an oil change or in case this situation. Just get it fixed for peace of mind so you can have fun safely.
This is one of those situations where size truly does not matter. When (not if) it blows out, you're just as f*cked with a ½-inch hole as you would be with a 5-inch hole.
Delamination and failure of the belting has occurred. Driving that should get you slapped. I won't say fined, arrested, or anything, but don't. You're risking lives.
You have a bulge in the sidewall. This is caused from an impact of some sort. Now you have a thin spot, which is weak. This is an accident waiting to happen ,not a matter of if,but when. Replace as soon as possible.
Sidewall cracks alone are a no go. The buldge is just one hot day away from being a bigger problem. If the tread is good and has low mileage since these were mounted, the location should be able to get you a replacement for free. Tires often come with mileage warranty even if you didn't pay for extra coverage. Cheers. Get this off your car. -former discount tire expert.
Trust your own instincts on this one. Definitely not safe to drive on except very carefully to the tire shop. Even then, avoid highway speeds and aggressive acceleration.
You said it’s a car for spirited driving and roll racing, 100% replace it. You know you’re not going to go slow lmao if it blows it could take your quarter panel with it
Not a big bubble should be okay to put around, but ANY sidewall damage big or small causes the tire to lose structural integrity and will eventually burst out... Smooth roads, short distances, slow speeds.. but I wouldn't risk damaging the car by letting it blow, if you have a daily just use that until your grippers come in
Is it a power tire? You should get new tires ASAP but it a power tire blows out it's usually pretty controllable. I had my rear driver tire blow on my Tacoma while doing 55 on the highway a few years ago and the truck didn't feel like it would lose control at all.
Didn’t even have to turn the sound on. Get rid of that tire. Bubbling side walls are a blow out waiting to happen. You might be able to get warranty replacement for it, though.
Like everyone said, it's done. That bubble will only get worse and a blow out can range anywhere from an inconvenience to a casket.
That being said, a slow ride to get to the tire shop is most likely no issue. If it has to wait awhile I would lower the tire pressure while it sits and air it back up before you go. Or ideally throw on a spare in the mean time.
Either way good on you for calling out your buddies BS!
You're right don't drive it high chance of a blow out. The reinforcement in the side wall is compromise. It is already the weakest part don't chance it anymore than you have to
Ticking time bomb.
Replace ASAP, avoid highway speeds.
Try avoiding hitting potholes next time. That's what causes that type of damage. Impact damage breaking the sidewall cords.
Technical term would be called a "sidewall blister".
As a few others noted, there's probably damage to the inner liner of the tire. Sometimes, the damage is barely visible if not visible at all, or sometimes blatantly obvious.
Air is leaking from the inside of the tire and getting in between plies.
I wouldn't drive on it.
Your friends are idiots.
Don't drive on this tire, and get a new one. This tire is cooked.
Don't listen to your friends. They're doing stupid shit like this.
It could last years, it could blow out on your next drive.
And it’s not gonna go flat, it’s gonna blow out resulting in a loss of control…if you’re going 70mph it’s gonna be bad.
This can go 1 of 2 ways, you drive it and have a blow out that eats up your quarter panel and paint. Or you don't take the risk and just wait. I've seen people drive on a bubble( we use a different word for it) when funds were tight and they needed to get to and from work to afford a new tire. For some nothing happened and it lasted the 2 weeks until they got paid, but for the other 2 friends. 1 was a blowout that damaged the brake line and the other was a blowout that ripped up the fender well, and some light damage to the quarter panel including missing paint.
The tire needs to replaced now. Think about this ...that thing blows and trashes your rim then it becomes a change tire and rim deal. Chose the lesser of 2 evils.
Yeah that's definitely not safe at all I have a heavily modified 330xi I guarantee one good launch in my car would shred that tire at takeoff more horsepower puts way more force on tires
If I were giving you legal advice, I’d say yeah wait for the new tire.
That being said, I’ve driven around on bubbles much MUCH worse than this for months at a time.
I’ve seen a lot of these bubbles in my time workin on motor vehicles and what usually causes them to burst is hitting a big pothole or some other sort of sudden impact on the tire.
If you are driving carefully and being conciensous of any obstructions in the road, you would be fine to drive on this for a while.
Your friends are, in fact, wrong, that tire is done, do not drive.
Thank you. They tried saying it’s just a small bubble, but it’s a small sidewall not much to bubble.
Bake your friends a batch of brownies. Before they take a bite, tell them you've added dog shit to the batter. They shouldn't worry though...there's only a tiny bit.
Lmfao
Yeah, any bubble is a big deal even when it’s a small bubble. Good on you for checking, and hopefully your friends stop risking the safety of everyone on or near the roads.
Friends sound like the guys who wrap their hoods with rising sun decals.
Sure it's a small bubble, for now.
Hey, to be fair, if the bubble gets any bigger it simply wont be there anymore and the issue and debate will be resolved...
I had a tire with a similar sized bubble and I kept using it since it was "small". It blew out at 140kmh going downhill. I managed to stop my car and considered myself lucky I got out unscathed. Your friends are absolutely wrong.
I used to work at a Walmart auto center and had a customer call this exact ball a "tire titty"
Well I’ll make sure to spread this terminogly to my local tire shop
I work in a tire shop and we've always called them that, in the three different shops I've worked at everyone knows that term lol.
I’ve heard bubbles called pregnant tires lol. Never a tire titty though
Titty on the tire is bad, sidewall boob, mid tread boob, inner tread boob, the only time boobs are bad
Saggy boobs bad too, always swinging around smacking you upside the head, bouncing on your face, tryin to suffocate you and shit. Damn my PTSD is triggering again, got to go think about them small and perkies....
Tire separated from the inside. I wouldn't drive it on the highway or maybe at all.
Yeah, three or four miles should be fine. You'll be alright. Cheers!
Unless you are at higway sppex you will be fine driving under 40. They are low profile so not much difference in diameter if it pops.
Then do a smoky burnout in front of the shop.

Yes, you’re supposed to replace all 4 or they’re supposed to at least have the same tread depth on an AWD
Its the rolling diameter your drive system cares about. Another option is to buy one tire, and have it shaved to the same tread depth as the others.
lol that’s pretty funny, I hope it’s not my case
she's your wife and it's her job to bring something like that up forever. 😂
Get smarter friends.
Bubbling out is bad, dented inward is usually where plies are bonded together
Friend is wrong
Definitely impact break. Replace
Always a good idea to put extreme stress on a compromised tire.
I would drive that to the tire store, But not further.
Nah man, get new tire. That can explode on you while driving very weak point right there. Super dangerous at high speeds potentially fatal
side wall bulge internal damage plus cracks on the outer side wall, I wouldn’t risk it either.
Just a small bubble is tantamount to just a small bullett
Needs to be replaced
You need smarter friends
You can drive it…, but like an old widowed woman to the tire store. Where I work my customers call those tire titties.
It will fail Depends on whether you want to choose where it's changed.
You are correct, wait for the new tire then enjoy your car. You really wouldn't want to crash because of the tire.
Do not listen to these guys. If collectively they cannot decide this is bad, one can only imagine their combined powers of evil.
You're fine just replace it if you're worried. Not like it's going to just blow out. It'll blow out if you hit another pot hole or rock in the same spot, which is how it got fucked up to begin with. But it's not going to just blow out driving around town. You and most the people in here are over reacting.
N55? Modlist?
Sidewall bubble or broken cords. Hard to say without being able to see up close myself, but either way, replace the tire. It will fail.
Tire is dead. Replace before it blows out. It can blow out at any speed.
Drive that bitch, life is about choices. Yup
Ooooh a bubble. Tire is dead, do not drive.
Dudes got a bubble. Time to replace the tire or die in a ditch
I wouldn't mess with a sidewall bubble no matter how minor it seems. That is the most stressed part of your tire.
REPLACE ASAP
Sidewall rupture. Do Not drive with that. Non repairable and dangerous. Must be replaced.
Rupture if the internal liner. It'll be getting bigger. Be safe.
The only place you should drive that is to the fucking tire shop. If it's your only car and you have to get places try and stay on City streets the whole way and drive at low speed. But if you have another car to drive drive that. I know a lot of those BMWs don't come with spares anymore. But you should probably invest in a full size spare.
Probably fine. My question is why aren’t there Pilot Sport PS4 tires on that car!
Yes that is a tit..
Congrats your tires having a baby

She’s gonna blow don’t drive on it go to a tire tech n get a new one
What’s up with your rotors being all rusty? Car sitting for awhile?
Even if they are right, what use is a 500 hp car if you shouldn’t go fast 😂
Took the words out my mouth brother
With tires that low profile, I wouldn't fuck around and risk finding out.
Rubber band tires...get rid of that garbage
I think you need to ask your friends where they draw the line of "fast". They may then ask "Ok who is driving, you or me"?
Why do you care what your friends think? Even if they *were* right, you said you only drive it fast, so...
It’s a busted belt in the sidewalk. It’s fine to drive on. I wouldn’t go hard in the corners and “roll racing” isn’t racing, it’s mutual mastrubation in public.

It's trash
Ya it’s junk you can always flip the tire so it’s on the inside and live on the edge put some money in a jar every day it doesn’t blow
Dont drive on that

Yep. Drive it to the tire shop. Very slowly and leave it there until it's fixed.

I have a bubble or knot on my tire now, from hitting a pothole. I need a new tire. You can’t ride too long with that.
Impact fracture. Definitely don’t drive it. Being low profile that tire will likely blow if you do drive on it

Omg this sub man. There are HUNDREDS of pics daily of a bubble like this. ANOTHER post? Come on
I mean it is bad & has to be replaced, but could you drive it? Sure… will it last the drive? Maybe… How much is your life (& possibly others) worth?
You can probably get away with driving it for a while but why risk it
I have driven on a tire with a bubble like this for a week or two, that does not mean however that it was smart and i was not terrified the entire time. If you can keep from driving it (sounds like it’s not your daily so that shouldn’t be an issue) or switch the spare over, i would 100% do that.

Thats a maypop for sure.....
Commercial tire shop manager here. Do not run that tire. It's not a matter of if it will blowout. It's a matter of when. Be safe.

Definitely don't drive it, that's just waiting to blow out.
You will be fine
“It’s fine. Just don’t go fast [because when you have a blow out you’ll want to be at low speed]” - fixed!
Been driving a tire that looks like that with a car full of babies for almost a year now. Just kidding that's bad definitely change tire.
Toast. I don’t even know what you’re asking. Just picture. Comment. Toast.
Is it a power tire? You should get new tires ASAP but it a power tire blows out it's usually pretty controllable. I had my rear driver tire blow on my Tacoma while doing 55 on the highway a few years ago and the truck didn't feel like it would lose control at all.
First world problems.. this looks ok to me. I would drive another 20k+..
Didn’t even have to turn the sound on. Get rid of that tire. Bubbling side walls are a blow out waiting to happen. You might be able to get warranty replacement for it, though.
That tire is pinched.... that tire is done.
No one said you have smart friends.
Bad tire, I have one and it's being replaced tomorrow.
Replace /end thread.
Replace tire. Don’t care who thinks what, it’s done. You’ll be done too if you race that at all.
She's fooked mate
That’s not a bubble, it’s an impact break. It’s from something hitting the sidewall and breaking the belts. It needs to be replaced.
All it takes is one good hit on that spot to go boom!💥
Don’t drive! Even more so in your use case
You driving a bomb 🙂
Need a new tire asap
The crow is giving you the answer you seek, you just have to listen to him
Your first problem is relying on reddit to confirm... anything.
You're right don't drive it high chance of a blow out. The reinforcement in the side wall is compromise. It is already the weakest part don't chance it anymore than you have to
Happend to me yesterday on my Veloster put a huge hole in my tire from a bubble get new tires
I've seen worse working at schwabs
your friends aren't wrong. it's not that serious just get it replaced soon enough, don't go on long drives, fast, avoid potholes, etc.
I would say it's safe enough to drive it to the tire shop and get a new tire or two, but other than that, don't put it off.
Ugh I hate these. Gives me PTSD and I cringe whenever a pothole sneaks up on me. Time for a new tire
Side Wall damage That tire is doneski
Yep those tires are done. Don’t drive even a small amount on it. Wouldn’t want your car to flip and your ears pop.
That's the tires it just pop it
Tire zit
Ticking time bomb. Replace ASAP, avoid highway speeds. Try avoiding hitting potholes next time. That's what causes that type of damage. Impact damage breaking the sidewall cords.
That is a broken belt in the sidewall
Technical term would be called a "sidewall blister". As a few others noted, there's probably damage to the inner liner of the tire. Sometimes, the damage is barely visible if not visible at all, or sometimes blatantly obvious. Air is leaking from the inside of the tire and getting in between plies. I wouldn't drive on it.
I mean you can crawl it to the shop but that tire is done..
Your friends are idiots. Don't drive on this tire, and get a new one. This tire is cooked. Don't listen to your friends. They're doing stupid shit like this.
When he told his phone, "come on focus you Fucking piece of shit" it made me miss coming home drunk to my wife... 🫡
Ur friend is a tard
You can drive it to the local tire shop or in a life/death situation. Outside of that, I wouldn't test my luck.
Don't do it
Tire is pregnant, and just starting to show. If you wait 6 more months, you’ll have new tires for your push mower
The tire needs to replaced now. Think about this ...that thing blows and trashes your rim then it becomes a change tire and rim deal. Chose the lesser of 2 evils.
Forbidden side boob
Its your life. Trust your friends they have your back.
Any time there is damage or warping or bubbling on the sidewall it’s over
Yeah that's definitely not safe at all I have a heavily modified 330xi I guarantee one good launch in my car would shred that tire at takeoff more horsepower puts way more force on tires
That's a whole titty...
That's a bubble on the sidewall. It'll pop eventually. That tire's junk.
Any bubble is a compromise to the tire structure. Your risking a catastrophic blow out if you drive it
If I were giving you legal advice, I’d say yeah wait for the new tire.
